KP Bank Guard’s killing in Pulwama: Will track down terrorists, neutralize them soon, says DIG South Kashmir

Srinagar, Feb 26: Jammu and Kashmir police Sunday said that terrorists involved in the killing of a Kashmiri Pandit Bank guard in Achan area of Litter hamlet of South Kashmir will be tracked down and neutralized soon.

Talking to reporters, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police, South Kashmir range, Rayees Muhammad Bhat said unknown terrorists fired at a bank security guard from Pandit community at Achan area of Litter. “We are acting swiftly and investigating the matter. The terrorists involved in this heinous crime will be tracked down and neutralized soon,” Bhat as per news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO)

The slain was identified as Sanjay Pandith son of Kashi Nath Pandit of Achan area of Litter, Pulwama district. Meanwhile, Kashmiri Pandit Sangarsh Samiti (KPSS) in a tweet said: “Govt and BJP4India canot handle 75 lakh Kashmiri Population and want to control PoK and Balochistan. Kashmiri Pandits are killed like dogs in Kashmir and @HMO India and @office of LG J&K sensor the information that Kashmir most dangerous place for KPs in this world.”—(KNO)

UN chief asks for political track to resolve Israeli-Palestinian conflict

United Nations: UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has called on regional and international players to help restore a political track to resolve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

“Our ultimate goals remain unchanged: end the occupation, realise a two-state solution. But we must face today’s reality. The truth is that … time is working against us,” Guterres told the 2023 opening session of the UN Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People on Wednesday.

“The longer we go without meaningful political negotiations, the further these goals slip from reach. Regional and international partners must collectively work — with greater urgency and determination — to help Palestinians and Israelis restore a credible political horizon,” he said.

The outlines of the solution are clear, and are laid out in UN resolutions, international law, and bilateral agreements, said Guterres, adding that what is needed is the political will and courage to make the difficult choices for peace, Xinhua news agency reported.

The current situation in the occupied Palestinian territory is at its most combustible in years. Deadly cycles of violence keep accelerating. Tensions are sky-high. And the peace process remains stalled. The situation in Jerusalem is becoming more fragile amid provocations and acts of violence in and around the holy sites. It radiates instability across the region and beyond, he warned.

The position of the UN is clear: The status of Jerusalem cannot be altered by unilateral actions. Jerusalem’s demographic and historical character must be preserved — and the status quo at the holy sites must be upheld, in line with the special role of Jordan, he said.

2022 was the deadliest year for Palestinians since the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs began systematically tracking fatalities in 2005. Two months into the new year, violence rages on without reprieve. Across the occupied West Bank and Gaza, hopelessness is spreading, feeding anger and despair, he added.

Each new settlement is another roadblock on the path to peace. All settlement activity is illegal under international law and must stop. At the same time, incitement to violence is a dead end. Nothing justifies terrorism. It must be rejected by all, said Guterres.

“Our immediate priority must be to prevent further escalation, reduce tensions and restore calm,” he added.

Now track periods right from wrist with Samsung Galaxy Watch5

New Delhi: Samsung has added temperature sensor functionality in its Galaxy Watch5 series that will bring temperature-based period tracking to the wrist.

Samsung Electronics and Natural Cycles announced a partnership to bring advanced temperature-based menstrual cycle tracking capabilities to the Galaxy Watch5 series.

The new skin temperature-based cycle tracking capabilities will be available on Galaxy Watch5 and Watch5 Pro within the second quarter in 32 markets. The feature is yet to be announced for the India market.

The partnership combines Samsung’s superior sensor technology with Natural Cycles’ innovative fertility technology to give users more detailed insight into their menstrual cycle.

Galaxy Watch5 users will be able to access advanced cycle tracking through the Cycle Tracking feature, which was recently approved by The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) of the Republic of Korea.

The Cycle Tracking feature has also been registered with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in the US.

“The Natural Cycles app has helped millions of women around the world take control of their fertility and this partnership will allow Samsung to leverage our fertility technology to offer temperature-based cycle tracking through a smartwatch for the first time,” said Dr Raoul Scherwitzl, co-founder and co-CEO of Natural Cycles.

The temperature sensor uses infrared technology for more accurate readings, even if there is a temperature change in their surroundings or they move while sleeping.

With all data encrypted and stored on the user’s device itself, it gives users more control of their health data and better peace of mind.

“Consumers can now easily track their menstrual cycle right from their wrist, combining Natural Cycles’ innovative fertility technology with Samsung’s superior temperature sensor to provide a more holistic understanding of their health and wellbeing,” said Hon Pak, Vice President and Head of Digital Health Team, MX Business at Samsung.

Hyderabad: Commissioner CV Anand inspects Formula E track

Hyderabad: With Hyderabad all set to host India’s first-ever Formula E race scheduled for Feb 11, the City police commissioner CV Anand inspected the Formula E race track, the audience stands, entry, and exit points on Thursday.

The title partner for the race, Greenko would fully power the event with renewable energy, in line with Formula E’s net zero carbon strategy and RE100 commitment to achieve 100 percent renewable energy for the championship.

The police chief on his Twitter handle account said, “Race day is just around the corner! With Hyderabad all set to host India’s first-ever Formula E race scheduled for Feb 11, yesterday I inspected the track, stands & entry points for a safe and thrilling experience for all.”

Appealing to the citizens for their cooperation, he added, “Please cooperate with us & follow the traffic advisory.”

The commissioner who was accompanied by his deputies and the event organisers during the inspection reviewed the preparedness of the organisers and other security aspects.

“Around 575 police personnel will be deployed to man security and traffic. A total of 16 stands, seven gates and four foot over bridges have been put up in place to facilitate free crowd movement. The general public is requested to cooperate with the police,” he said, urging the public to use metro services.

C V Anand said that Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA), in collaboration with the Telangana government, will organise the mega event that is expected to draw over 21,000 visitors from all over the globe.

The official also briefed the traffic restrictions saying, “traffic diversions will be imposed at NTR Marg from 5 February to 6 February partially and from 7 February to 12 February completely.”

“The actual diversion begins on February 7, and ends on February 12,” he added while requesting the public to note the diversions carefully and avoid movements on this side of the city.

With the Assembly sessions scheduled to start on February 3 and the inauguration of the Secretariat on February 17, Ananad said that officers will be stationed to ensure the free movement of dignitaries, and VVIPs.

“There will be no restriction for free movement of Secretariat employees, labour and vehicles carrying materials,” he added.

AirTag helps passenger track lost wallet after airline couldn’t find it

US man accused of stalking victim with Apple's AirTags

San Francisco: Apple’s AirTag has helped a passenger to track his lost wallet, even after American Airlines could not find it.

Taking to the micro-blogging platform Twitter, the passenger shared the incident on Sunday.

He mentioned that after realising that he lost his wallet, he contacted American Airlines and they said that they couldn’t find it.

Luckily, he had AirTag in his wallet with which he was able to track it.

After tracking, he discovered that the wallet was on the plane and had gone over to 35 cities.

Later, the airline replied to the passenger’s post, “Oh no, we’re sorry you left your wallet behind. Join us in DMs with your record locator, description and Lost and Found claim number.”

Last month, it was reported that the tracking device had helped Air Canada passengers to find their missing luggage which was on a different continent after a flight.

2015 Dalit youth murder: Madras HC judges inspect crime spot, rail track

Chennai: Madras High Court judges Justice M.S. Ramesh and Justice Anand Venkatesh inspected the Tiruchengode Arthanareeswar temple and the rail track in Tamil Nadu’s Namakkal district where the body of Dalit youth Gokul Raj, abducted and murdered in 2015 for going around with an upper class girl, was found.

Gokul Raj was murdered by a gang headed by S. Yuvaraj, a self-proclaimed youth leader of a dominant caste outfit, for visiting the Tiruchengode temple along with a girl, Swathi, who belonged to an upper caste.

The Dalit youth was abducted by the members of the caste outfit and later his body was found with his head severed on the rail track near Pallipalayam in Namakkal.

Gokul Raj was in love with Swathi and had visited Tiruchendur temple along with her. Now, Swathi has turned into a hostile witness in the case and is facing perjury.

A special court for cases under the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act in Madurai had sentenced Yuvaraj and ten others to life imprisonment while acquitting five others.

Gokul Raj’s mother Chithra, however, had moved the Madurai bench of the Madras High Court seeking capital punishment for Yuvaraj and others and against the acquittal of five others.

Justices Ramesh and Venkatesh decided to conduct an inspection of the crime scene to understand the topography of the area as also the exit and entrance gates as well as the CCTVs’ location in the temple.

The judges inspected the area on Sunday and inspected all eight CCTV cameras as well as all entrances and exits.

After the temple premises, the judges inspected the rail track at Pallipalayam where the body of Gokul Raj with his head severed was found.

Lawyers and family members of both Gokul Raj and Yuvaraj were present but they were not allowed to meet the judges.
