  • Atp Santiago, Musetti seeded number 1: victory of the tournament at 7.50

Atp Santiago, Musetti seeded number 1: victory of the tournament at 7.50

    [ad_1]

After premature exits in Buenos Aires and Rio de Janeiro, Lorenzo will be the No. 1 seed in Chile

Musetti, take a hit. The away match on clay in South America so far has gone badly: defeat in the second round in Buenos Aires, even in the first round in Rio de Janeiro. In both tournaments, Lorenzo was the number 3 seed: more was expected of him. He also expected it himself, who chose red to bring home points and instead, until now, has remained empty-handed. The last attempt will be in Santiago, to then go to Indian Wells for the first Masters 1000 of the season: Musetti seeks redemption in Chile.

    Can Musetti win in Santiago?

Simone Tartarini’s pupil will be the No. 1 seed in Santiago and the only player in the top 30 in the world. He will have all the pressure on him and he will have to be good at managing it: not obvious. On the one hand we must therefore consider the non-performance in the last two tournaments (and in general a complicated start to the season), on the other hand the fact that clay is Musetti’s favorite surface anyway. On clay he won the first tournament of his career, last year in Hamburg against Carlos Alcaraz. If he’s fine, he can express his best. For several betting sites he is the main favorite to win the final: the odds are 7.50 for Better and Sisal, but also 6.00 for Betfair.

    The main rivals

But Musetti does not detach the others in the ranking before the start of the tournament. Also because, net of the standings, Lorenzo’s main opponents will be specialists on clay. The first seeds after Lorenzo will be Argentine players who grew up in these conditions: Francisco Cerundolo, Sebastian Baez and Diego Schwartzman. Watch out for Baez, according to what the bookmakers tell us: the victory of the tournament is given at 7.50 by Sisal, 6.50 by Better (lower than that of Musetti) and Betfair. The podium of the favorites is completed by Nicolas Jarry, who beat Musetti in Rio and reached the semifinals (ko with Alcaraz): his victory is given at 7.50 by Better, Betfair and Sisal. While there are few chances, according to the bookies, for Fabio Fognini: 31.00 for Better, 25.00 for Sisal, 23.00 for Betfair.

Bengaluru: In a tragic turn of events at a cricket tournament held ahead of the Shivaratri festival, two youths were stabbed to death by a group of people who had come to watch the match.

The incident took place on Friday at the Karnataka Public School ground in Doddabelavangala village on the outskirts of the city. The deceased have been identified as Bharath kumar (23), an engineering graduate, and Prateek (17), a pre-university student.

According to police officials, the youth were stabbed by four men over an argument on parking their four-wheeler inside the playground. The accused had come to watch the cricket match and were trying to park their vehicle in the ground when some of the spectators and organisers objected to it.

With the argument escalating, the accused and their car were attacked. The two victims were not involved in the fight, a police official stated.

  • Sports Ministry suspends WFI assistant secretary Vinod Tomar, cancels tournament

Sports Ministry suspends WFI assistant secretary Vinod Tomar, cancels tournament

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: The Sports Ministry on Saturday suspended Wrestling Federation of India’s (WFI) assistant secretary Vinod Tomar, a fallout of the grapplers’ allegations of sexual harassment and corruption against the sports body’s chief, Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh.

It has decided to suspend Tomar, “with immediate effect, to ensure proper functioning of WFI”.

The ministry said it has also directed the WFI to suspend “all ongoing activities with immediate effect”, including the Ranking Tournament in Gonda, UP, Sharan’s stronghold.

This comes a day after Sports Minister Anurag Thakur announced the formation of an oversight committee to probe the charges levelled by some of the country’s top wrestlers, including Vinesh Phogat, Bajrang Punia, Sakshi Malik and Ravi Dahiya, against Sharan and his body.

Regarding Tomar, the ministry said in a letter, which is in possession of the PTI, that his presence will be “detrimental to the development of this high-priority discipline”.

“The Ministry has taken note of the reports about the functioning of the WFI, including the role of Shri Vinod Tomar and, has the reasons to believe that his continued presence will be detrimental to the development of this high-priority discipline,” the ministry said in the letter.

The aggrieved wrestlers had alleged that Tomar took bribes from athletes and was involved in financial corruption, helping him to build property worth crores.

According to sources, the ministry will announce the names of its oversight committee members on Sunday.

In a press release, the ministry said it “has communicated to the Wrestling Federation of India on Saturday that in view of the Government’s decision to appoint an Oversight Committee to investigate the various allegations raised by athletes against the Federation, WFI will suspend all ongoing activities with immediate effect, unless the Oversight Committee is formally appointed and takes over the day to day functioning of WFI”.

It added, “In view of the direction to suspend all activities immediately, the Sports Ministry has asked WFI to also cancel the ongoing Ranking Tournament in Gonda, UP.”

In this regard, the ministry has also asked the WFI to return the entry fees charged to participants for the ongoing event.

The oversight committee of the ministry will have the powers to take all decisions on matters concerning Indian wrestling while also overseeing the day-to-day affairs of the federation.

Earlier in the day, the WFI had rejected all the allegations, including that of sexual harassment against its president, and claimed that the wrestlers’ protest was motivated by a “hidden agenda to dislodge the current management”.

The WFI denied all the charges in its response to the government’s notice and asserted that “there is no scope for arbitrariness and mismanagement ” in the federation.

The ministry had sought an explanation from WFI after the country’s top wrestlers sat on a dharna and alleged that the federation chief sexually harassed women wrestlers and acts like a “dictator”.

Before the wrestlers agreed to end their protest, the Indian Olympic Association had on Friday formed a seven-member committee of its own, headed by M C Mary Kom, to investigate the charges against Sharan.

The IOA panel was constituted even as the wrestlers’ sit-in protest entered the third day.

Besides legendary boxer Mary Kom and wrestler Yogeshwar Dutt, the panel includes archer Dola Banerjee and Indian Weightlifting Federation (IWLF) president and IOA treasurer Sahdev Yadav.

The IOA committee also has two advocates — Talish Ray and Shlok Chandra — besides former shuttler and IOA joint secretary Alaknanda Ashok, who is its vice chairperson.

The decision was taken during the IOA’s emergency Executive Council meeting, which was attended by the likes of Olympic champion shooter Abhinav Bindra, Olympic bronze medallist Yogeshwar, along with IOA president PT Usha and joint secretary Kalyan Chaubey.

Riyadh: The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) marked another milestone as the women’s football national team won its first-ever international friendly tournament, which was hosted by the city of Dammam, between January 11 and 19.

Four women’s teams participated in the international friendly tournament— Pakistan, Comoros and Mauritius, in addition to Saudi Arabia.

The Saudi women’s team achieved the championship, after a draw against Pakistan (1-1) on Thursday evening, at the Prince Saud bin Jalawi Sports City Stadium in Al-Rakah.

Al-Bandari Mubarak scored Saudi’s goal, in the 28th minute of the match, before Pakistan women equalized with a goal in the 64th minute.

The women of the Saudi national team won the championship after topping the group with 7 points.
