Russia kills at least 10, including toddler, in massive rocket attack on Ukraine

KYIV — Russia launched 23 missiles at Ukraine’s sleeping cities and towns in the early hours of Friday, killing multiple civilians, including a toddler.
It was the first massive Russian barrage in weeks.
Ukraine’s Air Defense Forces reported shooting down 21 cruise missiles launched by Russian jets from the Caspian Sea.
But one Russian missile hit a nine-story residential building in Uman, a town in central Ukraine famous for its vibrant Jewish culture, destroying a large section of it. On Friday morning, 10 people were found dead and 17 others were taken to hospital, Ihor Klymenko, Ukraine’s interior minister, said in a statement. Rescuers are still working at the scene.
In Dnipro, Russia’s forces destroyed a house, killing a 31-year-old woman and a 2-year-old toddler. Three others were wounded.
“Missile strikes killing innocent Ukrainians in their sleep, including a 2-year-old child, is Russia’s response to all peace initiatives,” Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said in a statement. “The way to peace is to kick Russia out of Ukraine. The way to peace is to arm Ukraine with F-16s and protect children from Russian terror.”

Riyadh: In an image that represented the highest meanings of humanity and human cohesion, a Saudi woman soldier appeared embracing a sleeping boy after his arrival at King Faisal Naval Base in Jeddah as part of the evacuations from Sudan.

An image circulated on social media showed a baby boy wearing a white and yellow shirt and shorts clinging to a Saudi Ministry of Defense soldier as she got off the ship.

Arabic channel Saudi Al-Ekhbariya published the video clip and captioned on it by saying, “A female employee of the Ministry of Defense embraces a child the moment he arrives in Jeddah as part of the Saudi evacuation from Sudan.”

The soldier’s act of compassion has won praise from many social media users, who see the image as a representation of humanity and compassion at its best.

The Kingdom has been working for days to evacuate citizens and nationals from Sudan, against the background of the battles taking place between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

On Wednesday, the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that it had succeeded in evacuating about 2,148 people from Sudan. Of them, 114 are Saudi citizens, and 2,034 are from 62 nationalities; To translate its humanitarian and influential role globally.

Florida toddler found in alligator’s jaws was killed by father, police say

A Florida toddler who was found dead in the jaws of an alligator last month was drowned by his father before falling into the animal’s grasp, according to police.

The cause of death for two-year-old Taylen Mosley was confirmed by the local coroner’s office, said a statement on Monday from police in St Petersburg.

News of Mosley’s death in early April sent shockwaves through Florida and drew national headlines. The toddler’s body was found in the mouth of an alligator shortly after a family member discovered the child’s mother, 20-year-old Pashun Jeffery, dead in the family’s apartment.

Police allege that Taylen’s father, Thomas Mosley, 21, stabbed Jeffery more than 100 times after a birthday party on 29 March, the Washington Post reported.

Later that night, Thomas Mosley arrived at his mother’s house with cuts to his arms and hands – which were consistent with injuries that commonly occur to attackers wielding knives – and became a suspect in Jeffrey’s killing, according to a police affidavit.

Meanwhile, after authorities found Jeffery’s body, Taylen was reported as missing, and detectives found his body on 31 March, NBC News reported.

Officers noticed the alligator in Lake Maggiore and spotted Taylen’s body in the animal’s mouth, according to the Associated Press. The autopsy whose results were announced on Monday made clear for the first time that the boy had died before the alligator encountered him.

Law enforcement officers shot the alligator to death and “were able to retrieve Taylen’s body intact”, the St Petersburg police chief, Anthony Holloway, said at a press conference in early April, the Associated Press noted.

“We are sorry it has had to end this way,” Holloway had told reporters.

Thomas Mosley has been booked on two counts of first-degree murder in the deaths of both his son and the boy’s mother. He could face life imprisonment or the death penalty if convicted.

Man kills paramour’s toddler son by putting him into bucket of boiling water

Pune: A man allegedly killed the 15-month-son of a woman with whom he had illicit relations by putting him into a bucket of boiling water in Maharashtra’s Pune district, police said on Tuesday.

The incident took place on April 6 at Shet Pimpalgaon village near Chakan and the boy succumbed to burn injuries during treatment on April 18, they said.

The man, who was arrested two days back, was miffed with the woman as she was not ready to marry him, police inspector Vaibhav Shingare said.

“Investigations revealed that when the woman was not at home, the accused allegedly put the boy into a bucket of boiling water, and he later cooked up a story that the child accidentally hit the bucket and hot water fell on him,” the official said.

The woman’s sister had seen the accused putting the boy into the boiling water bucket, but she was threatened by the accused, he said.

“After the boy’s death, the woman’s sister informed her about what actually happened during the incident. Subsequently, the boy’s mother approached the police with a complaint and a case was registered against the man under Indian Penal Code Section 302 (murder),” the official said.

The man has been arrested and further investigation is underway, he added.

Rajasthan toddler dies while family waits in vain for Rs 16 cr injection

Jaipur: A two-year-old boy named Tanishq, who was suffering from a rare disease called spinal muscular atrophy, died after his family’s every effort to procure an injection costing Rs 16 crore that is required to treat the ailment failed to yield a positive result.

Tanishq’s father Shaitan Singh had appealed to the government to make arrangements for the injection at its own level for his child. However, nothing happened in this regard.

As soon as the news of Tanishq’s death came, a pal of gloom descended over Nadwa village in Nagaur district.

Waiting for the injection, Tanishq died during treatment at the JK Lone Hospital in Jaipur.

Incidentally, Rashtriya Loktantrik Party (RLP) MP Hanuman Beniwal had sought help for Tanishq from the Central government last year.

Tanishq was waiting for the injection for a year-and-a-half. When he was nine-month old, the doctors in Jaipur had asked his family members to arrange an injection that cost Rs 16 crore.

To arrange such a huge amount, his relatives had appealed to both the state government and the Centre so that the toddler could be saved.

A few months back, a court had ordered that every ill person should be provided medicine, but Tanishq’s case once again shows that that is not the case in Rajasthan.

The family members of Jameel, a child in Churu district who was suffering from a rare disease, had filed a petition in the Rajasthan High Court, after which the Sambal portal was launched by the state government, and Jameel’s interim treatment was done on the orders of the high court.

After the ruling in Jameel’s petition, the Central government had made Jodhpur AIIMS the only centre of excellence for rare diseases in Rajasthan, in which any patient suffering from a rare disease can get treated.
