“Of course, this is playing out on many of the networks here on a daily basis for hours and hours,” Jean-Pierre said. “So, obviously, he will catch part of the news when he has a moment to catch up on the news of the day, but this is not his focus for today.”

The White House has stuck to a “no comment” script since the news broke that Trump had been indicted Thursday.

Jean-Pierre said that when the White House first learned about the indictment, the president was not given a heads up.

The press secretary also said that the White House is prepared for any unrest that may happen in relation to Trump’s indictment. Biden on Monday said he has faith in New York City’s police ahead of potential unrest in the city.

Parliament to resume today, but stalemate to continue

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: After a short break, Parliament will resume on Monday but the stalemate will also continue as opposition MPs will carry on with their demand for a JPC on the Adani issue.

Opposition MPs have already moved suspension of business notice in the Upper House and an adjournment notice in the Lower House.

Congress MP Manish Tewari has moved the adjournment notice again on the issue of disqualification of leader Rahul Gandhi from the Lok Sabha.

    MS Education Academy

“The disqualification of Shri Rahul Gandhi from the membership of the House was a hasty and erroneous decision and not in consonance with the provisions of the Constitution of India. Article 102 (1) (e) of the Constitution provides that a person shall be disqualified for being chosen as, and for being, a member of either House of Parliament, if he is so disqualified by or under any law made by Parliament,” the notice said

“Article 103(1) provides that the decision as to the disqualification of members lies with the President of India. Further, Article 103(2) lays down that a decision on disqualification by the President must be preceded by mandatory consultation with the Election Commission of India.

“Even Section 8(3) of the Representation of People’s Act, 1951 which triggered the disqualification mandates conviction and sentencing as two conjunctive prerequisites for disqualification which were not fulfilled since Shri Rahul Gandhi’s sentence has been suspended for 30 days,” it added.

The notice also alleged that the action was in violation of the basic principles of natural justice, contrary to the provisions of the Constitution, and beyond the legal competence of the Secretariat of Parliament.

SIT to question TSPSC Secretary, member in paper leak case today

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: The Special Investigation Team (SIT) has summoned the Telangana State Public Service Commission (TSPSC) Secretary and a member of the constitutional body to appear before it on Saturday, in connection with the question paper leak case.

According to a senior police official on Friday, notices have been issued to the TSPSC Secretary and the member asking them to appear before the SIT for examination as witnesses today.

Meanwhile, Telangana Congress president A Revanth Reddy made a representation to the Enforcement Directorate (ED), to probe into the money laundering angle in the leak of question papers of Group-I Preliminary examination and other exams conducted by TSPSC.

In a related development, YSR Telangana Party (YSRTP) president Y S Sharmila was prevented by the police from “besieging” the TSPSC office here in protest against the “callousness and delay in conducting a fair investigation to protect the big fish involved” in the case, a party release said.

A total of 15 people, including some employees of TSPSC, have been arrested since March 13 over their alleged involvement in the data breach — for stealing and leaking question papers of TSPSC’s Assistant Engineer (Civil) examination, among other exams.

The TSPSC had on March 15 cancelled the Assistant Engineers (AE) exam held on March 5, following allegations that the question paper had been leaked.

Amid protests by opposition parties and students’ groups over the issue, the Commission had cancelled the Group-I preliminary exam and two other tests as well.

On Tuesday, the TSPSC rescheduled the written examination for the post of Horticulture Officer from April 4 to June 17.

  • NEIEA provides English course; Join webinar today at 3 pm

NEIEA provides English course; Join webinar today at 3 pm

    [ad_1]

New Equitable and Innovative Educational Association (NEIEA) is offering free English course. During the course, English will be taught in a fun and interactive way using DOP (Discourse Oriented Pedagogy) and Google classroom.

As per the details of the course, personalized attention from mentors, interactive and engaging modules, fun and supportive learning environment will be made available. The daily one-hour class will be conducted from April 1, 2023.

The webinar is scheduled to be held today from 3 pm to 5 pm and candidates need to register online (click here).

    Working of the NEIEA paradigm

NEIEA established a Lead center wherein subject matter specialists, Pedagogists and Technologists come together and build lessons using DOP, based on the syllabus given by the Indian national agencies NCERT (National Council of Educational Research and Testing) and NIOS (National Institute of Open Schooling). The devised lessons are then taught online by trained Mentor Teachers using Technology platform, Google Classroom. The lessons are conveyed to educational institutions that need good quality learning. These institutions are termed as Secondary institutions. They sign up with NEIEA and become the recipient of the lessons conveyed by the Mentor Teachers. The Secondary institutions are the ONSITE centers that have functioning classrooms with students and teachers. Technology infrastructure is enabled in these institutions with each classroom having a laptop, a large LED screen, Internet and printer/scanner. The students and teacher sitting in the classroom are taught the subject by the Mentor teachers from the Lead center. The classroom Teachers are also augmented with learning materials by the Mentor Teacher. The direct learning from a highly trained and experienced Mentor teacher brings quality education to the students and helps the Teacher, sitting in the classroom, understand the process of building and delivering a lesson. Live teaching is imparted to students and to Teachers every day of all the Secondary institutions that signed up with NEIEA.

    NEIEA teaching plan for 2023

    1. Teaching of English and subjects:  NEIEA will work with all educational institutions that are interested in availing online English learning. Most educational institutions that are catering to the education of marginalized students like Minorities/Tribals/Lower castes are found to be lacking in good quality education. Girls’ education, and that of students in the rural side, in slums, in Madrasas, and those catering to students that have special needs are found to be wanting in good quality education. NEIEA will offer their students who are age 10 plus the learning of English as a starting point using its NEIEA paradigm. It will enter into collaborative agreements with all such institutions and offer them FREE online learning. For students who are ages 12 plus, NEIEA will offer courses that it has prepared for the study of NIOS courses (see point 3 below).
    2. Teacher Training: NEIEA will prioritize the teaching of Teachers. Most teachers pursue Rote-memorization in their daily teaching. Teacher training will expose the Teachers to DOP. A predominant section of Teachers in India teaches students in colloquial languages and are themselves unexposed or partially exposed to the learning of English. NEIEA has crafted lessons specifically with the Teacher in mind and will enroll Teachers to learn different levels of English that they require. Teachers will also be exposed to Technology and will be taught the online teaching platforms Google classroom, Zoom and MS teams.
    3. NIOS subjects teaching: NEIEA has progressed from an early stage to one where it is able to offer courses that have a direct bearing on students’ educational growth. It took a strategic decision to offer courses catering to students interested in taking the NIOS (National Institute of Open Schooling https://nios.ac.in/) sponsored Board exams SSC (10th class) and Intermediate (12th class).  NIOS has a “mission to provide relevant continuing education at school stage, up to pre-degree level through Open Learning system to prioritized client groups as an alternative to formal system….”. The NIOS agency provides a way out to many students who have dropped out of school or have issues learning in school and prefer to study privately. Most students who enroll for NIOS are marginalized students. It is the largest Open Schooling system in the world with cumulative enrollment of 4.13 million (during the last 5 years). Working with the NIOS is in accordance with the objectives of NEIEA.

    Impact

    1. Profound learning of English: Online education has the advantage of reaching out to all corners of the country.  With the spread of Optic fiber and 5G, the streaming of lessons has become easier. NEIEA will reach out through the social media and through its dedicated Outreach coordinators and enroll students for the learning of English. The provision of courses, 1) English Beginners level O for those who are at the early stage of learning English (from ages 10 and up) 2) English course Level 1 for students who are partially exposed to English and need to better understand and use it 3) English language constructed NIOS courses. As these courses gain wide following, they will have deep impact on all aspects of learning and create a whole new generation of students who are very comfortable with English and who conceptually understand the subjects (not mug them). This will be a game-changer in Education.
    2. Teacher Training:  It is estimated that there are over 2 million teachers who are unexposed or partially exposed to English. These are teachers who teach subjects using regional languages like Hindi, Urdu, Tamil, Telugu. Gujarati, Punjabi, Bengali, Marathi, Kannadi etc. These teachers follow the obsolete Rote memorization method to teach and have little exposure to technology. NEIEA will provide a solid grounding in English for all these Teachers; it will teach them the DOP concept and how to adopt it in their classroom. The heightened Teacher capability in methodology, in Technology and in English will bring a sea change in Teacher’s capacity and bring Quality in education. The advantage of Teacher training is that it has a multiplier effect in that the Teacher’s learning has a secondary impact on the learning of his/her students and the latter also benefit from Teacher training.
    3. NIOS exam preparation and passing NEIEA is working on building the NIOS English course using DOP and it is also working on building the NIOS Math course using DOP. It is ready to offer these courses from May 1, 2023.  Students who enroll for NIOS exams and avail NEIEA learning will get a life-changing opportunity because it will help them pass the threshold Xth exam (the gateway for further learning and for joining Vocational training and avail job opportunities).

    Challenges

To meet the above enunciated goals of NEIEA, the following challenges need to be met:

    • Recruitment and training of Teachers: Millions of Teachers need to be trained in Methodology. This will enable them to reconstruct their lessons and replace Rote memorization method of teaching with the far advanced Discourse Oriented Pedagogy (DOP).  Teachers need training in English so they can pass on the learning to their students.  Teachers also need Training in Technology and the application of DOP in various subjects like Math and Science. NEIEA is ready to take up the challenge. What is needed is the Community support and media support (including social media) to do the Teachers outreach.
    • Outreach effort:   Enrollment of students poses a huge challenge. Multiple means need to be adopted for this. Maximum social media usage is needed. Connectivity through community outreach will bring in many educational institutions that can collaborate and take advantage of the work of NEIEA. Community leaders who are education-minded are requested to extend their support to NEIEA.
    • Building lessons that are innovative and interactive:  The building of lessons must not only be in accordance with the given syllabus but must also be based on DOP methodology. The lessons must be creative and interactive. Continuous collaborative discussion among teachers will help build such lessons. Capable teachers who are qualified and are passionate about teaching, need to recruit to teach. NEIEA seeks such teachers to join.
    • Assessment and monitoring of students’ progress: The progress of each student’s learning needs to be assessed and monitored continuously. Students who are failing or dropping out, need to be given remedial help. This provision and encouragement will enable the students to bounce back into learning and not drop out. Technology needs to be built that will make this possible on a mass scale.
    • Technical help: Online learning is steeped in technology. Availing strong technical help and incorporating the latest in technology will enable the crafting of better lessons, better class interaction, better monitoring of essentials like Attendance, correction of Homework, monitoring of students’ Progress, preparation for exams and distribution of certification etc. NEIEA seeks strong technical help to make this possible
    • Finances: The above works demand financial resources. NEIEA provides FREE services. The only way this works out when NEIEA is given generous donations/Charity. Fund raising is extremely critical for continued working. NEIEA seeks financial help from all its supporters, friends, Charities, Foundations and CSR (Corporate Social responsibility) funds. NEIEA needs help in crowdfunding and other creative means of building funding for sustained and expanded work.

  • Election Commission to announce Karnataka Assembly elections schedule today

Election Commission to announce Karnataka Assembly elections schedule today

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: The Election Commission of India will announce the schedule of the General Election to the Legislative Assembly of Karnataka slated this year at 11:30 am on Wednesday, the ECI said.

The EC will hold a press conference at Plenary Hall, Vigyan Bhawan in the national capital.

Karnataka, which has 224 seats in the Assembly currently has 119 MLAs of the ruling BJP, while Congress has 75 and its ally JD(S) has 28 seats.

With months to go for the Assembly elections, the political parties including the ruling BJP, Congress and ally JD(S) began the spate of allegations and counter-allegations, with the latter attempting to corner the government over the issue of corruption.

The BJP government, being led by Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai is also putting in efforts to return to power and stressing on the Kannadigas issue, reservation to the Lingayat and Vokkaliga communities by scrapping a religion-based reservation for the Muslim community, a decision which the state government took recently.

The government, last year, had proposed that the companies that do not give first preference to Kannadigas will not be eligible for incentives. The government’s move came in the later part of last year in a bid to promote Kannada. It was included in the Kannada Language Comprehensive Development Bill.

Meanwhile, Union Home Minister Amit Shah has made several visits to Karnataka, a state which he has described on numerous occasions as the BJP’s “gateway to the South”.

Shah on Monday chaired a meeting with the state BJP core committee and election management committee in Bengaluru on Monday.

Earlier on Sunday, Amit Shah lauded Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai and his immediate predecessor and BJP veteran BS Yediyurappa stating that both have provided “good governance” during their respective tenures.

Citing the developmental work done by the BJP government under both chief ministers, Shah urged the people to form the party’s government with a full majority in the upcoming Assembly elections slated this year.

In February last year, Amit Shah urged the people to give a chance to former chief minister BS Yediyurappa for forming a corruption-free government.

He said that Congress and Janata Dal (Secular) are dynastic parties and such parties can never work for the welfare of the people.

“Give a chance to Yediyurappa and we will give you a corruption-free government. Congress and JDS are dynastic parties and such parties can never work for the welfare of the people. Every vote polled for JDS will benefit the Congress party, and every vote polled for Congress will benefit Siddaramaiah and his ATM government in Delhi,” he said.

BJP only pan-India party today amidst family-run political outfits: PM Modi

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday said the BJP has emerged as the only pan-India party amidst family-run political outfits in the country as it worked on the ground with people braving all odds, instead of finding faults with its rivals and playing the blame game.

Addressing an event after inaugurating an extension of the BJP headquarters here, he attributed the BJP’s rise from a small political outfit to the world’s biggest one to the dedication and sacrifices made by party workers.

“BJP started its journey from just two Lok Sabha seats and reached 303 in 2019. In many of the states, we get more than 50 per cent votes,” he said.

“From north to south and from east to west, the BJP is the only pan-India party today,” he added.

The BJP has emerged as not only the world’s biggest but also the most futuristic party, he said, adding that its only goal is to make a modern and developed India.

  • Bilkis Bano case: SC to hear pleas against premature release of 11 convicts today

Bilkis Bano case: SC to hear pleas against premature release of 11 convicts today

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: The Supreme Court will hear a batch of pleas on Monday challenging the release of 11 convicts who had gang-raped Bilkis Bano and murdered her family members during the 2002 Godhra riots.

The Gujarat government had granted remission to 11 convicts on August 10 last year following which they walked free on August 15, 2022.

A bench of Justices KM Joseph and BV Nagarathna will hear the case on March 27.

On March 22, Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud said that he will constitute a bench to hear pleas. “I will have a bench constituted. Need to break two benches for it. Will look at it this evening,” he said after advocate Shobha Gupta, appearing for Bano, mentioned the plea for an early listing of the case.

Earlier also advocate Gupta mentioned the matter for urgent hearing and said that a new bench needs to be constituted by the CJI as Justice Bela M Trivedi recused from hearing the plea.

A bench of Justices Ajay Rastogi and Bela M Trivedi earlier had ordered that matter be listed before the bench, in which Justice Trivedi is not a part of as she had recused herself from hearing the case.

Besides filing a petition against the pre-mature release of convicts, Bano had also filed a review petition seeking a review of its earlier order by which it had asked the Gujarat government to consider the plea for the remission of one of the convicts.

    The review petition was dismissed.

Some PILs were filed seeking directions to revoke the remission granted to 11 convicts.

The pleas were filed by the National Federation of Indian Women, whose General Secretary is Annie Raja, Member of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) Subhashini Ali, journalist Revati Laul, social activist and professor Roop Rekha Verma and TMC MP Mahua Moitra.

Gujarat government in its affidavit had defended remission granted to convicts saying they completed 14 years of sentence in prison and their “behaviour was found to be good”.

The State government said it has considered the cases of all 11 convicts as per the policy of 1992 and remission was granted on August 10, 2022, and the Central government also approved the pre-mature release of convicts.

It is pertinent to note that the remission was not granted under the circular governing grant of remission to prisoners as part of the celebration of “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav”, it had said.

The affidavit stated, “State government considered all the opinions and decided to release 11 prisoners since they have completed 14 years and above in prisons and their behaviour was found to be good.”

The government had also questioned the locus standi of petitioners who filed the PIL challenging the decision saying they are outsiders to the case.

The pleas said they have challenged the order of competent authority of the government of Gujarat by way of which 11 persons who were accused in a set of heinous offences committed in Gujarat were allowed to walk free on August 15, 2022, pursuant to remission being extended to them.

The remission in this heinous case would be entirely against public interest and would shock the collective public conscience, as also be entirely against the interests of the victim (whose family has publicly made statements worrying for her safety), pleas stated.

The Gujarat government released the 11 convicts, who were sentenced to life imprisonment, on August 15. All the 11 life-term convicts in the case were released as per the remission policy prevalent in Gujarat at the time of their conviction in 2008.

In March 2002 during the post-Godhra riots, Bano was gang-raped and left to die with 14 members of her family, including her three-year-old daughter. She was five months pregnant when rioters attacked her family in Vadodara.

Telangana govt even today hesitates to celebrate Hyderabad Liberation Day: Amit Shah

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: Union Home Minister Amit Shah hoisted a 103 ft high national flag and inaugurated the ‘Gorata Shaheed Smarak’ and memorial of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel at Gorata ground in Bidar district on Sunday.

On the inaugural of the memorial Shah attacked the ruling Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) in Telangana stating that the Telangana government even today hesitates to celebrate Hyderabad Liberation Day.

“In this Gorata village, hundreds of people were killed by the army of a cruel Nizam for hoisting just a 2.5-ft tall Tricolour. Today, I proudly say that on the same land, we have hoisted a 103-ft tall Tricolour that can’t be hidden from anyone,” stated Shah.

“On the same land, a memorial of those immortal martyrs has been erected. This 20-ft tall statue of Sardar Patel is a symbol of the significant role played by our first Home Minister in ousting the Nizam from Hyderabad. That is why this area, this Bidar could become a part of India,” he added, stating that the BJP will celebrate Hyderabad Liberation Day in a grand manner.

Telangana is due for elections at the end of this year.

Later, in an apparent move to woo the two dominant communities, Lingayatas and Vokkaligas, in the poll-bound Karnataka, where elections are due by May, the BJP leader will unveil the statues of 12th-century social reformer Basaveshwara and the founder of Bengaluru city ‘Nadaprabhu’ Kempegowda on the ‘Vidhana Soudha’ premises.

  • Hyderabad: LB Nagar RHS flyover to be inaugurated today

Hyderabad: LB Nagar RHS flyover to be inaugurated today

    [ad_1]

The Telangana government has been working on multiple projects to ease the traffic congestion in Hyderabad, including the construction of several flyovers under the Strategic Road Development Programme (SRDP). The LB Nagar RHS flyover is one such project that has been completed at a cost of 32 crores.

The 700-meter-long unidirectional flyover, with a width of 12 feet and three lanes, will be inaugurated by the Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MAUD) Minister, KT Rama Rao, today. The LB Nagar RHS flyover is expected to ease traffic congestion for vehicles coming from Vijayawada, Khammam, and Nalgonda to Hyderabad, reducing travel time for commuters and improving the overall traffic situation in the city.

However, the inauguration of the flyover was delayed due to the MLC election code, even though it was ready a month ago. Nonetheless, the project is now set for the inauguration and will be a significant addition to the growing number of flyovers in Hyderabad.

The GHMC (Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation) has taken up a total of 35 SRDP projects to improve the city’s transportation infrastructure. Out of these, 32 projects have already been completed, and the construction of the remaining three projects – Golnaka to Amberpet, Uppal to CPRI, and Aramghar to Shamshabad – is underway.
