    Cong team meets EC, complains about violence against Oppn candidates in Tripura

    Raipur: Three resolutions — political, economic and international — will be taken up at the Congress plenary session here on Saturday.

    The session will commence by an opening address by party president Mallikarjun Kharge after which it will debate on issues put forth by the subject committee.

    Former Congress President Sonia Gandhi in her capacity as chairman of the parliamentary party will also address the plenary.

    The party will also debate the Constitutional resolution and amend its Constitution to give proper representation to the SCs, STs, OBCs, minorities, women, and those below 50 years in the Congress Working Committee — the party’s top decision-making body.

    In one of the proposals made at the Udaipur ‘Chintan Shivir’ in May last year, the party will make these provisions by amending 26 articles and 32 rules.

    If the proposed amendments are passed in the plenary, then former party chiefs Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi will become lifelong CWC members, along with former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

    General Secretar Jairam Ramesh said that the most important proposal is to provide 50 per cent reservations in the Working Committee for SC/STs, OBCs, minorities, women and youth.

    Srinagar, Feb 20: As ‘Chillai-Khurd’ makes its exit this season, mercury saw a slight drop amid overnight cloud cover in Kashmir valley but no place recorded below sub-zero temperature for the second day in a row on Monday. There is forecast for light rain and snowfall today.

    A meteorological department official here told GNS that Srinagar recorded a low of 5.3°C against the previous night’s 6.7°C . Today’s minimum temperature, he said, was above normal by 4.4°C for the summer capital.

    Qazigund, he said, recorded a low of 3.1°C against 4.4°C on the previous night and it was 3.2°C above normal for the gateway town of Kashmir.

    Pahalgam, he said, recorded a low of 1.7°C against minus 2.1°C on the previous night and it was 5.7°C above normal for the famous tourist resort in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district.

    Kokernag recorded a low of 3.7°C against 3.2°C on the previous night and it was 4.4°C above normal for the place, the officials said.

    Gulmarg recorded a low of 0.2°C against 2.0°C on the previous night and it was 6.9°C above normal for the world famous skiing resort in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, he said.

    In Kupwara town, he said, the mercury settled at 4.5°C against 5.1°C on the previous night and it was 4.8°C above normal for the north Kashmir area.

    Jammu recorded a low of 15.5°C against 14.1°C on the previous night. It was 4.9°C above normal for J&K’s winter capital, he said.

    Banihal, he said, recorded a low of 6.2°C (above normal by 5.0°C), Batote 9.1°C (above normal by 5.6°C), Katra 13.6°C (5.1°C above normal) and Bhadarwah 7.0°C (6.4°C above normal).

    Ladakh’s Leh recorded a low of minus 2.2°C, the official said.

    The MeT has forecast light rain in plains and light to moderate rain and snow in middle and higher reaches from late afternoon today to early morning of February 21.

    While Chillai-Kalan, the 40-day long harsh winter period that started on December 21 and a 20-day-long period called ‘Chillai-Khurd’ have ended, Kashmir is under grip of 10-day-long period ‘Chillai-Bachha’ (baby cold) which started today and ends on March 1. (GNS)

    Petrol-Diesel Prices Today, February 20: Petrol and diesel prices remain same across metro cities. Oil marketing companies at 6 AM revise fuel prices. The last change in country-wide fluctuation in fuel prices was witnessed in May 2022 when the Centre cut the excise duty on petrol by Rs 8 per litre and Rs 6 per litre on diesel. Retail petrol and diesel prices vary from state to state and various factors like freight charges, local taxes, and Value-Added Tax (VAT). 

    The retail price for petrol and diesel In Delhi, is priced at Rs 96.72, while diesel in the National Capital is retailing at Rs 89.62 per litre. In Mumbai, petrol is retailing at Rs 106.03 per litre, and diesel is selling at Rs 94.27 per litre. The prices of petrol and diesel change state by state, depending upon various criteria such as Value Added Tax (VAT), freight charges, local taxes, etc. The last country-wide change in fuel rates was on 21 May last year, when Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman slashed excise duty on petrol by Rs 8 per litre and Rs 6 per litre on diesel.

    The change in the price of crude oil in the international market directly influences the price of crude oil in the domestic market; this is one of the most important factors responsible for an increase in petrol prices in Indian domestic market. Increase in international demand, low production rate and any political unrest in the crude oil producing countries of the world severely affects petrol price.

    The prices of petrol and other petroleum products varies according to the local government policies which impose taxes on fuels. As and when the government of India raises tax rates on fuels the oil companies in India also increases the price of the petrol to recover losses and maintain marginal profits in the oil business in India.

    The rupee-dollar exchange rate is also one of the major factors which influence the price of petrol in India. Indian oil companies pay to the oil imported from other countries in terms of dollars, but their expenses are regarding rupee. So, when the price of the crude oil is in the fall but the rupee is also weak against the dollar then it will reduce the gains to the oil refiners. On the other hand, when the rupee strengthens against the dollar and the price of the crude oil is in the fall, then the oil companies tend to gain.

    The history of Islam is rich with miracles that took place during the life of Prophet Muhammad.

    Among the various miracles of Prophet Muhammad, one of the most renowned incidents is of Isra and Me’raj. It is an incident where Prophet Muhammad ascended heaven at night and met Allah, the Almighty.

    The event of Isra and Me’raj took place on the 27th night of the Islamic month of Rajab. Almighty Allah sent Archangel Gabriel to the Prophet to bring him up to the heavens. First, the Prophet was taken to Masjid al-Aqsa in Jerusalem and from there he ascended to the skies and the journey began.

    “Isra” means walking at night and “Me’raj” means to “ascend”. Therefore, the Isra and Me’raj events that are one and the same represent the whole journey of the Prophet from his house to the higher skies and the return.

    In the Quran, Allah says: “Glory to (Allah) Who did take His Servant for Journey by night from the Sacred Mosque to the Farthest Mosque whose precincts We did bless – in order that We might show him some of Our Signs: for He is the one Who heareth and seeth (all things).”

    The Prophet was carried physically from the Sacred Mosque in Makkah to the Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem on a mount (a flying horse-like creature) called Al-Buraq in the company of Angel Gabriel. There the Prophet led all the other prophets in prayer.

    “While he (Prophet Muhammad) was at the highest part of the horizon and came closer to Almighty he was at a distance of only two bow-lengths or (even) nearer. So did (Allah) convey the inspiration to His Servant what He (meant) to convey. Prophet’s mind and heart in no way falsified what he saw… Will ye then dispute with him concerning what he saw? For indeed he saw Him at a second descent. Near the Lote tree beyond which none may pass: near it is the Garden of Abode. Behold, the Lote tree was shrouded (in mystery unspeakable!) (His) sight never swerved nor did it go wrong! For truly did he see of the Signs of His Lord the Greatest.” (The Qur’an)

    This verse refers to the peak of Me’raj where Prophet Muhammad met Allah Almighty in person.

    There are other major things that happened on the night of Isra and Me’raj.

    One of the major happenings of the night of Me’raj is of Prophet Muhammad meeting various Prophets while ascending to higher skies.

    When Prophet Muhammad met Almighty Allah, besides other things the one thing that Allah spoke about to Prophet was about the daily prayers known as Salath or Namaz. Allah made the five prayers compulsory for Muslims, although they were fifty in the beginning.

    In addition, the Prophet also visited paradise and hell during the Me’raj.

    To sum up, the importance of the night of Me’raj is one of the most revered nights for Muslims. The journey of the Prophet is looked upon as one of the greatest miracles that Allah Almighty provided to Prophet Muhammad.

    Hyderabad: Numaish, Hyderabad’s popular 45-day-long annual exhibition is all set to conclude today.

    The 82nd edition of the All India Industrial Exhibition, popularly known as Numaish, was inaugurated by Telangana ministers Harish Rao, Mohammed Mehmood Ali, T. Srinivas Yadav, and Vemula Prashanth Reddy on January 1.

    The All India Industrial Exhibition Society (AIIES) has allotted stalls to traders and various business organizations from different parts of the country to sell their products at the fair. Every day the exhibition opened for visitors from 3.30 p.m. to 10.30 p.m.

    The organizers of the event have hiked the entry fee to Rs 40 from Rs 30 per head.

    Kashmiri dry fruit sellers draw crowds

    At the exhibition, the Kashmiri Dry Fruit stall drew special attention from visitors like in previous years.

    As dry fruits in Hyderabad are mostly imported from California, Kashmiri dry fruit at the Numaish always grabs people’s attention.

    The food stalls were also able to attract many visitors at the Numaish.

    History of Numaish in Hyderabad

    Numaish-e-Masnuaat-e-Mulki, or Numaish in short, began in 1938 as an event to promote locally-produced goods. It was an idea by a group of graduates from Osmania University.

    The seventh Nizam of Hyderabad State, Mir Osman Ali Khan, inaugurated the first ‘Numaish’.

    After seeing the response, it was decided to make it an annual event and use the earnings to promote education.

    Beginning with just 50 stalls, it has today evolved into one of the biggest industrial exhibitions in the country.

    The annual exhibition was not organized thrice

    Numaish could not be organized in 1947 and 1948 due to the turmoil in the aftermath of India’s Independence. With Hyderabad acceding to the Indian Union, the event bounced back in 1949.

    The exhibition could not be held in 2020 due to Covid-19 situation. This was only the third time in its history that it could not be held.

    Last year, the Numaish was suspended a day after it was inaugurated by the state Governor in view of the curbs imposed by the government to check the spread of Covid-19. It was later organized from February 25.

    Adani Group stocks locked in lower circuits

    As of 10 am, most of the Adani stocks were also locked in lower circuits. Adani Total Gas Limited and Adani Transmission saw a dip of five percent whereas, Adani Power and Adani Green lost 4.99 percent of market valuation today.

    Apart from them, other Adani Group stocks, Adani Enterprises, Adani Ports, ACC, Ambuja Cement, and NDTV were trading in red due to sell-offs.

    Gulmarg, Feb 12 (GNS): Sunny weather blessed at Gulmarg on Sunday giving respite to players and  organisers as all the events scheduled for the day were conducted smoothly at all the venues. All the players, coaches, officials donning their jerseys with enthusiastic spirit reached venues early to earn time for final practice before matches.

     One of the Alpine G slalom players while expressing his happiness said that it is a great opportunity to participate in 3rd Edition of Khelo India. He said that today the weather is very pleasant and he hopes to give his best to make his state proud.

    The sports events fixed for 3rd day of Winter Games included Ice Stock, Ice Hockey, Ice Skating, Bandy Curling, Bobsleighing & Skelton, Snow Shoe, Nordic, Ski Mountaineering, Alpine G Slalom and Cross Country.

     During the events, a huge number of spectators clapped and shouted to extend support to their favourite teams.  Meanwhile winners were awarded prizes by the officers & officials of J&K Sports councils after registering top position by defeating opponent teams & players.

    Earlier, In bandy Gujarat registered first position, Haryana second position while Maharashtra satisfied with third position.Similarly, in Ice Skating of 1000 Mtr. for the senior Girls category, Swarali Ashutosh Deo of Maharashtra achieved 1st position, Raina Kukreja got 2nd position and Anushka Merchant obtained 3rd position, both the players belonged to Haryana.

    In the same event of senior Men, Suyog Sanjay Tapkir of Maharashtra wrested 1st position, Anubhav Gupta from UP and Padma Gurmeet of Ladakh got 2nd and 3rd position respectively.

     In another Figure Skaters event of Boys 13-15 Years, Kapish Kaushik and Utkarsh Saxena both players from Haryana got first and second positions respectively while Ayush Jaguri, Uttrakhand had to satisfy at 3rd position. While in Figure Skaters Girls-15-19 Years, Wafa Tariq from J&K topped, followed by Chelsi Singh of Haryana at 2nd position and Shezan Wani, J&K at 3rd position.

     Also, in Figure Skaters age category Senior Girls, Kashish Sharma stayed at top and  Suyog Sanjay Tapkir obtained top position in Speed Skaters in Senior Men Category.

    Aman Thakur (HAWS) got gold medal in Senior Men Long Distance competition, Ghulam Haider (Ladakh)got gold in Junior Boys Long Distance competition, Dhanalaksmi ( Karnataka) received gold in Senior Women Long Distance category and Sara (J&K) took gold medal Junior Girls Long Distance.

     In  Nordic 15 KMS (Men) Shubham Parihar ( Army Red) got 1st position and in Nordic 1.5 KM Jr. Girls Shabnum (HP) scaled top position. Farhat Shabir (J&K) & Priyanshu Kawan (UK) achieved first position in Alpine Catogory 01 Boys and Alpine Catogory 02 Boys respectively.

     During the entire day, officers of J&K Sports council continued to monitor events by visiting venues and interacting with the players. Secretary J&K Sports council while speaking at Kongdoori said all the events are going as per schedule at all the venues. She said that players were very happy and ready to show their capabilities. 

    She informed that Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports Anurag Thakur instructed the department to organise sports events at other destinations including Sonmarg, Pahalgam Doodpathri in future and other possible venues to promote the winter sports at these places. (GNS)

    SRINAGAR: Haj 2023 forms will be available online free of cost from on Friday onwards on the official website of Haj Committee of India (HCoI).

    “Haj forms have been made available on the official website of HcOI: https://hajcommittee.gov.in/haf23,” news agency KNO quoted HCoI Member, Er Aijaz Hussain as having said. He said the forms are absolutely free of cost as already announced by the HCoI under its Haj policy 2023.

    Er Aijaz said all the steps will be taken to provide as much as possible relief to the pilgrims performing Haj 2023. He said that under the Haj policy 2023, 25 Haj Embankment points will be set up across country to facilitate the pilgrims by all means. This year, as per the bilateral agreement between Government of India and Saudi Government, over 1,75000 pilgrims will perform the holy pilgrimage of Haj 2023. Pertinently, HCoI has already abolished the VIP quota under which 5 to 10 persons were allowed to perform the pilgrimage. This year, there is no such quota. Er Aijaz reiterated that this year, pilgrims above 70 years of age will be given priority.

    He said HCoI is taking every step to make Haj 2023 cheaper with all possible best facilities available for the pilgrims visiting both holy cities of Makah and Madina.
