    Srinagar, Apr 20: The first solar eclipse of 2023 will occur on April 20 at 7:04 am to 12:29 pm IST. This year will witness four eclipses, among which two will be solar eclipses. The solar eclipse, also known as Rare Hybrid Surya Grahan, is one of the most significant celestial events.     • It’s advised to avoid sleeping during a solar eclipse, especially for older or sick people, as it’s believed to have negative effects on health.
    • Cooking and eating may be avoided during a solar eclipse as it can harm your health.
    • During a solar eclipse, it’s believed that deities shouldn’t be touched or worshipped. After the eclipse, it’s recommended to wash everything and say prayers.
    • Pregnant women should avoid seeing the eclipse and limit exposure to the sun during this time.
    • After a solar eclipse, it’s customary to take a bath, wear new clothes, and clean the house.
    • Before a solar eclipse, people often put basil or tulsi leaves in water and on food as a religious practice.
    • Hindu beliefs suggest that pregnant women should stay indoors during the eclipse to avoid harm to the baby in the womb.
    • Sprinkling Gangajal (holy water from the Ganges) is considered auspicious after the solar eclipse ends.
    • It’s important not to look directly at the sun during a solar eclipse as it can permanently damage your eyes.
    • It’s considered inauspicious to cook or consume any kind of food during a solar eclipse.
    • It’s believed to be unfavorable to buy property or engage in auspicious activities during a solar eclipse.

  • Auqaf Jamia Announces Prayer Timing For Upcoming Events

    SRINAGAR: Anjuman Auqaf Jamia Masjid Srinagar on Tuesday reviewed the arrangements for facilitating the worshipers and devotees thronging Jama Masjid  for Jumma-tul-Vida, Shab-e-Qadr and Eid-ul-Fitr prayers.

    In a statement issued by the Auqaf, it stated that the Jumma-tul-Vida prayer will be offered at 02:00 pm and Shab-e-Qadr at 10:30 pm at the Jama Masjid.

    About the Eid-ul-Fitr prayer the statement read that the Eid prayers will be held at the historic Eidgah, Srinagar at 10:00 am, as per past practice.

    However, in case of inclement weather, the Eid prayer will be held at the Jama Masjid Srinagar same time, it said.

    Srinagar, Apr 11 : An important meeting of the leading members and senior officials of Anjuman Auqaf Jama Masjid Srinagar was held on Tuesday.

    The meeting reviewed the arrangements for providing all possible facilities to the worshipers and devotees coming to the Jama Masjid for Jumma-tul-Vida, Shab-e-Qadr and Eid-ul-Fitr,

    It was stated in the meeting that according to the schedule, Jumma-tul-Vida prayer will be offered at 02:00 pm and Shab-e-Qadr at 10:30 pm at the Jama Masjid while the Eid-ul-Fitr prayer will be held at the historic Eidgah, Srinagar at 10:00 am, as per past practice In Sha Allah. However, in case of inclement weather, the Eid prayer will be held at the Jama Masjid Srinagar same time.

    During the meeting, the members expressed deep concern over the nearly four-year-long illegal and arbitrary detention of the Anjuman Chairman Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir Dr Moulvi Muhammad Umar Farooq and urged the authorities to release him in view of the important and blessed occasions of Shab-e-Qadr, Jumma-tul-Vida and Eid-ul-Fitr so that he can fulfill his religious responsibilities the institution of Mirwaiz enjoins upon him.

    It was clarified in the statement that during these two great occasions, thousands of Muslims from all over the valley flock to the historic Central Jama Masjid Srinagar not only for the night and Friday prayers but also for collective repentance and supplication before Allah Almighty. They also benefit from the advice and sermons of Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir who however continues to be under house arrest since 5 August 2019 while all his peaceful activities remain suspended since then—(KNO)

    Srinagar, Mar 29 : Directorate of School Education Kashmir (DSEK) has ordered change in school timings for Kashmir province from April 1.

    According to an order issued by DSEK, the new timings for the government and the recognized private schools falling outside Srinagar Municipal limits will be from 10.00 am to 4.00 pm.

    “The order/instructions shall be adhered to strictly by all the concerned institutions,” the order reads, adding, “Any deviation in this regard shall be viewed seriously.”

    There is no mention about timings for schools located within the Srinagar Municipal Limits and it appears that it shall remain from 9.00 am to 2.00 pm. (GNS)

    Srinagar, Feb 28: School Education Department Tuesday changed school timing in Srinagar city from 9Am to 2 Pm.

    According to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), Under Secretary to government for School Education Department said, “I am directed to convey approval of the department for change of school timings in Srinagar City from 9 Am to 2 Pm from March-01.”

    Pertinently, Schools in Kashmir division are all set to resume academics from March-01 following the winter vacation of over two months—(KNO)
