New Delhi: The Delhi government’s Prisons department on Friday suspended eight Tihar Jail staff members in connection with the fatal stabbing of gangster Tillu Tajpuriya on the premises, officials said.

Tajpuriya was killed early on Tuesday allegedly by four members of the rival Gogi gang — Deepak alias Titar, Yogesh alias Tunda, Rajesh, and Riyaz Khan — who stabbed him “92 times”.

A senior Prisons department official said they conducted a departmental inquiry based on which eight staff members were suspended.

The officer had earlier said, “The report was received on Friday and lapses were found on the part of nine staff members. Out of them, seven — three assistant superintendents and four warders — have been suspended.

“We had a meeting with officials of the Tamil Nadu Special Police and they have also agreed to take departmental action against their personnel.”

The Tamil Nadu Special Police provides security on the jail premises.

Sources said Tihar Jail Director-General Sanjay Beniwal met Lt Governor VK Saxena and presented him a detailed report on the stabbing.

A fresh CCTV video from Tihar Jail emerged on social media purportedly showing Tajpuriya being attacked in front of security personnel as well when they were carrying him away after he was stabbed.

Tajpuriya was assaulted with improvised weapons by the Gogi gang members inside the high security prison on Tuesday morning. But he was still alive and was being carried away by the prison security personnel when the accused attacked him for a second time, according to the fresh footage.

The footage shows security personnel were in a corridor when the accused barged in through the door and again attacked Tajpuriya. He could be seen moving his leg in the video, confirming he was alive at that time. In the footage, it appears that the security personnel remained a bystander while the assailants keep attacking the gangster.

He was declared brought dead later. Another person, Rohit is undergoing treatment and is out of danger,” Akshat Kaushal, Additional DCP West District, Delhi Police said.

The police said that a prisoner named Yogesh Tunda, who was lodged in Jail No. 8 and other members of the rival gang attacked Tillu, who was lodged in Jail No. 9 with an iron grill.

“Yogesh alias Tunda and Deepak alias Teetar attacked Tillu Tajpuriya by breaking the iron grills of the ward which separated both gangs in the same ward,” the official said.

Further investigation into the incident is underway.

On September 24 last year, two shooters shot and killed Jitendra Gogi in Rohini Court No. 207 during a shootout.

Sources had said in September last year, a day before the Rohini shootout, (shooters) Umang and Jagdeep took weapons from a crook named Rakesh Tajpuria in Murthal.

“Then on the same day, Umang and Jagdeep took the dress of lawyers from a person near AIIMS. Meanwhile, Tillu was in constant touch with both of them through WhatsApp calls from jail,” sources said.

Recently, Tillu’s name cropped up during the investigation of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in a terror case.

His killers are alleged to be the members of the Jitender Gogi gang.

  • AAP alleges Sisodia kept with ‘dangerous’ criminals in Tihar jail

AAP alleges Sisodia kept with ‘dangerous’ criminals in Tihar jail

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: The Aam Aadmi Party on Wednesday expressed concerns over former deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia’s “safety” inside the jail and alleged that he was being kept with “dangerous” criminals, a charge denied by the prison authorities.

AAP national spokesperson Saurabh Bharadwaj alleged that Sisodia is being kept with other criminals in the Tihar Jail and has been refused “vipassana” cell.

He claimed that despite approval from the court, Sisodia has not been provided the “vipassana” cell.

“There was a request for Manish Sisodia to be kept in the vipassana cell of the jail and it was approved by the court. Despite the court’s approval, Sisodia has been kept with other criminals in jail number 1. The Centre must answer why are they doing this,” Bharadwaj said.

Senior AAP leader Sanjay Singh lashed out at the BJP and the Centre and alleged that they have been “misusing” central agencies such as the CBI and the ED.

“BJP and the Centre are full of hatred and they have been misusing the central agencies. Every other day there is news of CBI and ED raids on the opposition leaders. They (BJP) are least bothered about education, health, electricity, water and overall progress of the country,” Singh alleged.

He further alleged that Sisodia has been kept with “dangerous” criminals in the jail and that the party leaders have been “worried about his safety”.

Senior AAP leader Dilip Pandey claimed that court orders have been “defied” and Sisodia has been kept with criminals with “dangerous records” inside the Tihar Jail.

“First, Manish Sisodia was mentally tortured by the central agencies and then he has been kept in Tihar’s jail number 1 with criminals with dangerous records. He is also being pressured to sign the papers where false charges have been framed against him,” he alleged.

Rejecting the Aam Aadmi Party’s allegations as “unfounded”, the Delhi Prison authorities on Wednesday said Sisodia has been lodged in a ward of Central Jail No. 1 of Tihar where there are a minimum number of inmates and no gangsters.

In a statement, the prison authorities said, “Manish Sisodia has been assigned to a segregated ward keeping his security in mind. The ward…has minimum number of inmates who are not gangsters and are maintaining good conduct inside the jail.”

According to jail officials, a separate cell makes it possible for him to meditate or do such other activities without any disturbance.

“All the arrangements, as per jail rules, are in place to ensure his safety and security. Any aspersions cast about his lodgings is unfounded,” an official added.

Sisodia was arrested by the CBI in the excise policy scam case. He is currently in judicial custody.

Reacting to the allegations levelled by the AAP, BJP leader Manoj Tiwari charged that the AAP is “trying to mislead” the public as Tihar Jail comes under the Delhi government’s Department of Prisons.

“There was a request for Manish Sisodia to be kept in the vipasana cell of the jail and the same was approved by the court. Despite the court’s approval, Sisodia has been kept with criminals in jail number 1. The Centre must give the answer,” Bharadwaj said.

Sisodia, the former Delhi deputy chief minister and an accused in the excise policy scam, is lodged in a Tihar prison cell for senior citizens.

Officials had earlier said that Sisodia will be lodged inside Tihar Jail Number-1 which is meant for a single person who is a senior citizen.

The court had allowed the senior leader of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) to carry the Bhagavad Gita, spectacles and medicines to jail, and directed the Tihar authorities to consider his request to be allowed to do Vipassana meditation.
