Bengaluru: The members of the Karnataka Rakshana Vedike on Monday staged a protest by throwing Amul products on a street here to oppose the direct sale of milk by Amul in the state.
The Vedike also warned against the direct selling of Amul products in the state.
The protest was staged near the Mysuru Bank Circle. The Vedike activists condemned the sale of milk and curd of Amul brand in Karnataka and the conspiracy to merge Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF) into Amul.
Vedike President T.A. Narayana Gowda led the protest and the protesters also attempted to burn the effigy of Amul. Vedike Vice President D.P. Anjanappa stated that the Amul institution is playing with the feelings of the Kannada people. He claimed that he will not allow any chance to destroy the KMF built by Kannadigas.
“The central government is planning to merge Nandini with Amul. If this happens, the local people will raise a revolt,” he warned.
Dharmaraj Gowda T.A., Youth President of Youth wing of Vedike said, “If Amul continues the sale of milk and curd with obstinacy in the state, all Amul products would be boycotted. It won’t be allowed to sell any of its products from ice cream to biscuits. Amul has to stop selling milk and curd.”
When activists tried to burn the effigy of Amul, the police intervened and stopped it. This led to arguments between the police personnel and the protesters. The police took a large number of agitators into custody.
B. Sannerappa, General Secretary of Vedike said, “The ruling BJP government has asked the police to arrest hundreds of activists in cowardice. The police atrocity would be taken as a challenge. The agitation would be staged in all corners of the state. Let them send more police force.”

Mumbai: Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Uddhav Thackeray on Thursday said the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) lost the bypoll to the Kasba Peth Assembly constituency in Maharashtra’s Pune city because of its “use and throw” policy.
The ruling BJP on Thursday failed to retain the Kasba seat, its stronghold, as Congress candidate Ravindra Dhangekar defeated the saffron party nominee Hemant Rasane in the bypoll. The BJP held this Assembly segment for 28 years. Girish Bapat, the current BJP MP from Pune, represented the seat five times till 2019.
Dhangekar polled 73,194 votes while Rasane received 62,244 votes, as per figures provided by the Election Commission.
Speaking to reporters on the election results, Thackeray said, “I am happy that the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) candidate has won the Kasba Peth assembly segment. It is the outcome of the BJP’s policy of use and throw. They treated us this way and now even ticket was not given to a family member of late MLA Mukta Tilak.”
In 2019, BJP’s Tilak had won the seat. She died after battling cancer in December 2022, which necessitated the by-election in the constituency.
“They made MP Girish Bapat take part in the campaign although he was extremely sick. They want sympathy but very selectively. The voters do not accept this kind of behaviour,” he said.
When asked about Chief Minister Eknath Shinde calling opposition leaders anti-nationals, he said, “Opposition leaders were invited (to the tea party hosted on the eve of the legislature session on Sunday) by the chief minister himself. Had the opposition parties attended the tea party, would he have still called them anti-nationals?”
On Sunday, on the eve of the Budget session of the state legislature, the opposition had boycotted the customary tea party hosted by CM Shinde. Later, referring to the opposition’s boycott, Shinde said it saved him from having tea with “anti-nationals”. He had said it was good that the opposition members did not turn up for the tea party as some of them have ties with terrorist Dawood Ibrahim.
In a wonderful humanitarian gesture, fans of the Turkish football club Besiktas threw thousands of toys onto the field on Sunday in a symbol of solidarity with the children affected by the devastating February 6 earthquakes in Turkey.
The shower of giant teddy bears and other toys came during a Turkish Super League match between Besiktas and Antalyaspor on Sunday at the city’s Vodafone Park stadium.
The Turkish Super League match was stopped after 4 minutes and 17 seconds, the time the first earthquake struck was 4:17 am local time on February 6, and toys showered from the stands.
Pink dolls, shiny unicorns, fluffy bunnies, monkeys, elephants and fish were among the toys thrown on the field. Some people threw scarves and hats – they hoped the donations would keep those displaced by the disaster warm amid the harsh winter conditions.
In a club statement, Besiktas said its fans organized a meaningful event to help children affected by the recent earthquakes and threw gifts on the field.
“Our fans organized a meaningful event called ‘This toy is my friend’ during the match in order to give morale to the children affected by the earthquake. The fans threw scarves, berets and plush toys to be given as a gift to the children in the earthquake region,” read Besiktas’ statement.
