  • Hyderabad: Temporary mosque removed after complaint from Hindutva groups

Hyderabad: Temporary mosque removed after complaint from Hindutva groups

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: Authorities here on Saturday removed a temporary mosque set up using a container truck cabin on the banks of River Musi at Amberpet. The structure was illegal and had no permission from the authorities concerned.

Some local groups had objections to the mosque and lodged complaints with the district collector and GHMC after which the local Revenue authorities and police acted and removed the structure.

The matter came to light after some Hindutva groups and social media accounts shared the news on their pages and websites about it.

    MS Education Academy

“A cabin made of iron was brought here and given the form of a mosque. Namaz prayers were also offered at this mosque. Three days later, when Bajrang Sena came to know about this, they informed other Hindu organisations. All the Hindu organisations together gave a letter to the District Collector, Commissioner of the Corporation, and Divisional Commissioner requesting the removal of the illegal mosque. The Administration removed the mosque subsequently,” reported sanatanprabhat.org on its website.

Following the development, the police posted a picket in the area.

  • Saudi Arabia announces new three-month temporary work visa

Saudi Arabia announces new three-month temporary work visa

    [ad_1]

Riyadh: The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) has introduce a new three-month temporary work visa service, local media reported.

The visa enables companies to issue a temporary work visa, whose holder can work for a period of three months from the date of entry, according to the Qiwa platform.

The visa can also be extended for a similar period. Foreign nationals applying for this visa do not need to obtain a residence or work permit.

    MS Education Academy

The visa application must be submitted by the employer or authorized representative of Qiwa.

The regulations for the temporary work visa service require that the organization must be active and have a valid commercial registration, except for activities that do not require a commercial registration.

In addition, enterprises with the same unified number must have no expired work permit and have sufficient balance in the enterprise’s national unified number in the Absher account.

The temporary work visa is issued by Qiwa immediately and requires no documents.

The visa is electronic and valid within one year.

To apply online for a temporary work visa, the applicant must follow these steps

    • Select the temporary work visa service from e-services.
    • Then, complete all the required fields and submit the request.

Reasons given for the rejection of a request for the temporary visa include an insufficient balance in the unified number of the enterprise on Absher and rejection from the Ministry of the Interior.

The temporary work visa balance package can be cancelled and government fees refunded.

The cancellation request must be submitted by the business owner or a commissioner, the platform pointed out.

  • Cyclone Gabrielle: temporary morgues set up in New Zealand as rescues continue

Cyclone Gabrielle: temporary morgues set up in New Zealand as rescues continue

    [ad_1]

Authorities in New Zealand have set up two temporary morgues, as the death toll from Cyclone Gabrielle, the country’s most damaging storm in decades, climbs to seven.

A second volunteer firefighter, Craig Stevens, died in hospital after being caught in a landslide near Auckland earlier in the week. A body was also found near Napier on Friday morning. Officials have warned that the toll is likely to rise further.

Severe storms have cut off entire towns, washed away farms, bridges and livestock, and inundated homes, stranding people on rooftops. Ten thousand people have been displaced and by Thursday afternoon, 3,455 people had been registered by police as “uncontactable”, though some were likely to be multiple reports for the same person, authorities said.

Temporary morgues have been set up in Napier and Hastings as part of “standard practice”, a police spokesperson told news outlet Stuff.

“The facilities have been established as a precaution to ensure that any fatalities can be managed with care and respect, and in accordance with coronial processes. They are held there before being taken to a mortuary,” police said.

Communication and access to a number of areas remained difficult, while surveillance flights were being undertaken to survey the damage and identify those who may be isolated. Convoys of trucks carrying essential items such as food, water, medicine and fuel were making their way into remote areas and the defence force is using ships to transport needed items into areas of the east coast.

On Thursday, prime minister, Chris Hipkins, warned that there were some people for whom the police held “grave concerns”, but added, “We believe the majority of those considered uncontactable simply cannot make contact with loved ones, so police are prioritising those who are in isolated areas.”

Urban search and rescue team leader Ken Cooper said one man had walked 70km from Putorino to Napier to give rescue workers help with their missions.

“That’s a day-and-a-half walk,” he told Radio NZ. “He walked to give us a list of people still trapped up in the east coast.”

In Hawke’s Bay helicopters and boats were being used to check on people in isolated communities, while search and rescue teams continued to operate.

Rescue efforts were likely to be boosted by news from MetService that it no longer had any weather warnings in place in New Zealand and sunshine was forecast for most of the North Island.

  • Temporary jails coming up in Assam as crackdown on child marriage continues

Temporary jails coming up in Assam as crackdown on child marriage continues

    [ad_1]

Guwahati: As the crackdown on child marriage continued in Assam, the police are now setting up additional prison facilities to house the accused, with two such arrangements in Goalpara and Cachar districts already in the offing.

While accused from different districts have already been moved to the facility in Goalpara, another such temporary jail is coming up in Cachar as well.

“We have got the approval for setting up a temporary jail. It will be established in a non-functional existing government premises near Silchar,” Cachar Superintendent of Police Nomal Mahatta told PTI.

He said building and other infrastructure are already available and security arrangements are now being put in place.

Mahatta added that the temporary jail will be used once the existing facilities run out of space.

In Goalpara district, a transit camp for doubtful and declared foreigners in Matia area is being used to accommodate accused in child marriage cases from neighbouring districts, a police official said.

“Some of the accused held in Nalbari, Barpeta and Kamrup districts are being brought to this temporary jail,” he said.

The first dedicated centre to put suspected and declared foreigners in Assam, the Matia transit camp has a capacity to house 3,000 inmates, with 68 people moved into it in the first batch in January.

The opposition has criticised the manner in which the drive against child marriage was being carried out, equating the police action with “terrorising people”.

Family members of those arrested have also been protesting against the operation.

The Kailash Satyarthi Children’s Foundation has demanded that the Assam government provide a monthly assistance of Rs 2,000 to every woman whose husband has been arrested till he gets bail.

AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi had said that the Assam government should have concentrated on increasing literacy levels if it was actually seized of the problem of child marriage.

At least 2,528 people have been arrested and 4,074 cases registered in the state so far as part of the crackdown that began on Friday.

With the large number of household heads, in many cases the sole bread earners, being arrested, protests were staged in different parts of the state with wives, children and family members coming out on the streets.

“Our menfolk have been taken away by the police, leaving us without anyone to look after or to provide food for us,” said Reshma Khatun, one of those protesting at Dhubri on Monday.

Justifying the action, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said teenage pregnancy accounted for nearly 17 per cent of over 6.2 lakh pregnant women last year in the state.

The state cabinet recently approved a proposal to book men who have married girls below 14 years under the POCSO Act.

Cases under the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, 2006 will be registered against those who have married girls in the age group of 14-18, the cabinet had decided.

The offenders will be arrested and the marriages declared illegal.

Assam has a high rate of maternal and infant mortality, with child marriage being identified as the primary cause, according to the National Family Health Survey (NFHS).

  • Houses develop cracks in J-K’s Doda, 19 families shifted to temporary shelters

Houses develop cracks in J-K’s Doda, 19 families shifted to temporary shelters

    [ad_1]

Doda/Jammu: Nineteen families were evacuated after their homes developed cracks at a village in Jammu and Kashmir’s Doda district, officials said on Friday.

The authorities also declared unsafe a mosque and a religious school for girls at Nai Basti village in Thathri, 35 kilometres from Doda town along the Kishtwar-Batote National Highway.

A few structures in the village started developing cracks a couple of days ago but the situation was exacerbated by a landslide on Thursday with the number of buildings damaged reaching 21.

“We have shifted 19 affected families to a safer location after their houses were rendered unsafe. We are observing the situation and taking steps as per need to ensure their safety,” Sub-Divisional Magistrate (Thathri) Athar Amin Zargar told PTI.

The deputy commissioner and the senior superintendent of police visited the spot and assured all help to the affected families, he said.

Zargar, however, refused to compare the situation to that in Uttarakhand’s Joshimath — the gateway to famous pilgrimage sites like Badrinath and Hemkund Sahib — that is facing a major challenge due to land subsidence.

“Comparing the situation in Nai Basti with the sinking town of Joshimath will be an exaggeration. We are faced with a problem of landslide and geologists from Chenab Valley power projects and National Highways Authority of India have already inspected the site,” Zargar said.

While some families have shifted to a temporary shelter set up by the district administration, many others have returned to their ancestral homes.

“We are making all necessary arrangements, including food and electricity, at the campsite,” Zargar said.

Zahida Begum, whose family was shifted to a temporary site, said they lived in the village for 15 years and were surprised to notice cracks in concrete houses.

“There is panic among 50-plus households in the village. Majority of the structures developed cracks after Thursday’s landslide,” she said, demanding proper rehabilitation for the affected families.

Farooq Ahmad, another local resident, said 117 members of 19 families of policemen, ex-servicemen, defence personnel and labourers were relocated.

Nai Basti was developed about two decades ago and there was no such problem, he said.

“We request the NGOs and philanthropists to come forward and provide assistance to the affected people,” Ahmad added.
