PWD demolishes temple, mosque at Delhi’s ITO

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: A temple and a mosque in the national capital’s ITO area were demolished by the Public Works Department (PWD) as a part of its anti-encroachment drive.

A large number of police personnel have been deployed in the area to maintain law and order situation.

Saturday’s development comes after the Delhi High Court on Thursday directed the PWD to carry out work to make a pedestrian pathway at “Jheel ka Piao” on Mathura Road, ITO, even if it called for demolishing a portion of the temple and the mosque.

The single judge bench of Justice Prathiba Singh observed that the issue was concerning the development of a pathway on an extremely busy road wherein documents and other photographs show that the temple and the mosque are abutting the pedestrian pathway.

It observed that in the line sketch filed by the PWD, there was no uniformity in the pedestrian pathway which could affect the safety of pedestrians.

The court asked PWD to confirm with the caretakers of the mandir/masjid to arrive at a consensus on the time when the said demolition will take place.

The court was hearing a plea that was moved by caretakers of Sanatan Dharam Mandir, also known as Prachin Shiv Mandir, on Mathura Road.

They had challenged a letter by the PWD which said the mandir property was identified as obstructing the way.

  • Nikki Yadav case: Sahil Gehlot taken to temple where they solemnised marriage in 2020

Nikki Yadav case: Sahil Gehlot taken to temple where they solemnised marriage in 2020

    [ad_1]

Delhi: The Delhi Police took Sahil Gehlot, accused of killing his first wife Nikki Yadav and keeping her body in a refrigerator, to the Arya Samaj Mandir in Greater Noida where they had solemnised the marriage, sources said on Sunday.

According to the sources, police have recorded the statements of the temple’s priest and the witnesses who were present at the time of the marriage.

Gehlot allegedly killed Yadav, stuffed her body inside a refrigerator of his dhaba in southwest Delhi, and went off to marry another woman. The incident had come to light on February 14, Valentine’s Day, four days after the crime.

The police have so far arrested Gehlot, his father and four others — two cousins and two friends — in connection with the case. The police claimed that they had planned to get rid of Yadav so that Sahil Gehlot could marry a second time to a woman of the family’s choosing.

The police on Saturday recorded the statement of Nikki Yadav’s younger sister.

In her statement, she denied that she was aware about the marriage of her sister with Sahil Gehlot. She told police that she knew that they were good friends, they said.

Gehlot married Yadav at an Arya Samaj temple in 2020. The couple had not informed their respective families about their marriage.

“However, when Gehlot’s parents started looking for a girl for his marriage and started pressuring him to take interest in marriage…, he finally revealed to his family that he was already married,” a police officer said earlier.

When Gehlot’s family got to know about his marriage to Yadav, they expressed their displeasure over him marrying a girl of his choice without informing them.

Nikki Yadav’s parents told police that they were not aware of her relationship or her wedding with Gehlot.

  • From anti-Tipu campaign to Ram temple, Karnataka BJP banks on polarisation

From anti-Tipu campaign to Ram temple, Karnataka BJP banks on polarisation

    [ad_1]

Bengaluru: As the countdown begins for the Karnataka assembly elections, the ruling BJP is pitching the narrative of Tipu (Mysuru ruler Tipu Sultan) versus Hindu God Lord Ram and iconic figure of the Sangh Parivar Veer Savarkar in the state.

The verbal attacks on Tipu Sultan and his supporters, banning Tipu Jayanti, changing the name of the ritual of Salaam Aarti’ to Aarti Namaskara’, removing textbooks that glorify Tipu Sultan from the syllabus, staging the play Tippuvina Nijakanasugalu’ (Real Dreams of Tipu) which showcased Tipu as a religious bigot, the ruling BJP has set the tone for Hindu polarisation in the state.

The BJP has announced the building of a grand and magnificent Ram temple in Ramadevara Betta of Ramnagar district. The party has plans to develop the temple of south Ayodhya. Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai announced the plans during the presentation of the budget.

Minister for Higher Education C.N. Ashwath Narayan stated that a Detailed Project Report would be prepared soon and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath would be invited for the ground breaking ceremony. BJP state chief Nalin Kumar Kateel has stated that there is no place for followers of Tipu Sultan in the state and the place is only for the devotees of Lord Ram and Hanuman.

On the other hand the saffron party has named a major airport flyover in Bengaluru after its iconic figure Veer Savarkar. The text regarding Veer Savarkar has been added to the syllabus, the portrait of Veer Savarkar finds a majestic place in Belagavi Suvarna Soudha. The Congress protested against not installing the photo of India’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru in the assembly hall.

The BJP’s attempt to put up flexes and cutouts of Veer Savarkar during the celebration of the 75th Year of Independence resulted in protests which turned violent. Stabbing incidents were reported from Shivamogga district. The police had to shoot to control the situation. Presently, the NIA is investigating the case and the probe has shown that the stabbing accused was working as a part of a global terror network.

Minister for Power, Kannada and Culture V. Sunil Kumar has stated that the ruling BJP is contemplating installing Veer Savarkar’s portraits in the schools of the state.

Hindu activists and RSS cadres went ahead with the installation of Veer Savarkar’s portrait along with Lord Ganesh during the Ganesh festival. The police department had to be on their toes to maintain law and order.

Opposition leader Siddaramaiah had condemned the installation of Veer Savarkar’s flexes in a Muslim majority locality. He had also questioned why the flexes of Tipu Sultan are not erected?

The statement stirred a controversy and Siddamaraiah faced protests in Kodagu district. The protestors threw eggs at his vehicle and the police arrested 16 persons in this connection.

Siddaramaiah had warned BJP leaders that if their activists continue to trouble him, the Congress party workers will not allow them to visit any part of the state. The ruling BJP launched a Savarkar Rath Yatra in Mysuru to create awareness among the public about the contributions and sacrifices of Veer Savarkar. BJP Central Parliamentary Board Member and former CM B.S. Yediyurappa stated that it is wrong to say that Veer Savarkar was not a freedom fighter. We will propagate the patriotism of Veer Savarkar, he claimed.

Siddaramaiah attacked the BJP and said the country got independence because of the efforts of Mahatma Gandhi and Pt Nehru and not because of the RSS. “Did Savarkar win freedom for us?” he questioned. Did anyone from the RSS or the BJP die or sacrifice their life for the freedom of India? The BJP leaders do not know history, he stated.

Minister for Higher Education C.N. Ashwath Narayan gave a public call to finish off Opposition leader Siddaramaiah like the way Tipu Sultan was finished off by chieftains Uri Gowda and Nanje Gowda. Later, he regretted his statement in the assembly.

It is to be seen whose political narrative people are going to buy in the upcoming assembly elections.

Hindu temple in Australia gets threat calls; asked to raise Khalistani slogans

    [ad_1]

Melbourne: A prominent Hindu temple in Australia has received threatening calls in which it was asked to raise pro-Khalistani slogans if it wanted to observe Maha Shivratri peacefully which falls on February 18, a media report said on Friday.

The threatening call to Gayatri mandir in Brisbane came after three Hindu temples were vandalised in Australia’s Victoria state allegedly by “Khalistani supporters” with anti-India graffiti.

Jai Ram, the president and Dharmesh Prasad, the vice president of Gayatri Mandir received separate calls on Friday from a man who identified himself as ‘Guruawadesh Singh’ seeking the Hindu community to support the “Khalistan Referendum”, The Australia Today reported.

Claiming that he was calling from Nankana Sahib in Pakistan, the anti-India supporter asked temple officials to ask the Hindu community to support the ‘Khalistan Referendum’.

“I have a message in relation to Khalistan… if you plan to celebrate Maha Shivratri …. then ask the priest to support Khalistan and raise ‘Khalistan Zindabad’ slogans five times during your event… now show me how you will raise this slogan,” the report said, quoting Singh’s warning message to the president of the temple.

Talking about the threat call, Prasad said that violence towards religious places is the biggest crime and “we as Hindus should be able to practice our religion without fear”, the report said.

Later on, Temple’s Public relation officer Neelima also said that received several calls from an American number.

The threatening call to Gayatri mandir came after recent attacks on three Hindu temples that were vandalised in Australia’s Victoria state allegedly by “Khalistani supporters” with anti-India graffiti.

Earlier, a Kali Mata Mandir in Melbourne’s northern suburb of Craigieburn also received a threatening call to cancel a bhajan and puja event or face consequences.

The Indian-Australian community is still recovering from the vandalism of three temples by Khalistani extremists.

On Jan 23, the management of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) temple also known as the Hare Krishna Temple in Melbourne’s Albert Park found the walls of the revered temple vandalised with graffiti “Hindustan Murdabad”.

On January 16, the historic Shri Shiva Vishnu Temple in Carrum Downs, Victoria, was vandalised in a similar manner.

On January 12, the Swaminarayan temple in Melbourne was defaced by ‘anti-social elements’ with anti-India graffiti.

  • Karnataka govt to build Ram temple in Ramanagara: CM Bommai

Karnataka govt to build Ram temple in Ramanagara: CM Bommai

    [ad_1]

Bengaluru: Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Friday announced a ‘majestic’ Ram temple will be constructed at Ramadevara Betta (hill) in Ramanagara district near here.

The Chief Minister also said Anjanadri hill in Koppal district, which is believed to be the birthplace of Lord Anjaneya (Hanuman), a detailed project has been formulated involving various works at an estimated cost of Rs 100 crore to provide basic facilities for tourists and a tender has been invited.

He also said that in the next two years, a comprehensive development and renovation drive of various temples and Maths will be undertaken by the government with an expenditure of Rs 1,000 crore.

“A majestic Rama Mandira will be constructed in Ramadevara Betta of Ramanagara,” Bommai, who also holds the finance portfolio, said while presenting the 2023-24 budget in the Assembly.

Ramanagara district in-charge Minister C N Ashwath Narayan had in December last year urged Bommai to constitute a development committee to build a temple at Ramadevara Betta on the lines of Sri Ram temple at Ayodhya in Uttar Pradesh.

In a letter to Bommai and Muzrai Minister Shashikala Jolle, he had demanded that Ramadevara Betta should be developed as the ‘Ayodhya of South India’.

The Ram temple should be built using 19 acres of space that belong to the Department of Muzrai at Ramadevara Betta, Narayan had said.

Stating that there is a strong belief among the people of the region that Sugriva had installed Ramadevara Betta, Narayan in his letter had said, “Considering the religious feelings of the people of the district, it should be developed as a heritage and attractive tourist spot. This would enable us to portray our culture as well as nurture tourism.”

“They also believe that seven great sages did their penance here. In addition, this is a prominent vulture conservation area in the country.”

The traditional connection between Ramadevara Betta and the epic Ramayana dates back to the era of Tretayuga, he had said in the letter.

According to the state’s Tourism Department, Ramadevara Betta is situated 50 kilometres away from Bengaluru, and the famous Hindi blockbuster ‘Sholay’ was shot on this picturesque hill.

Ramanagara, part of Vokkaliga-dominated Old Mysuru region, is not considered among the BJP’s strongholds. Assembly elections are due in Karnataka by May this year.

While Ramanagara is the home district of state Congress President D K Shivakumar, it is also the ‘karma bhoomi’ of JD(S) leader and former Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy. While the latter is MLA from the district’s Channapatna segment, his wife Anitha Kumaraswamy represents the neighbouring Ramanagara seat.

Kumaraswamy is seeking re-election from Channapatana, while his son Nikhil Kumaraswamy will be facing polls from Ramanagara.

MP govt to construct Rs 100-crore Ravidas temple in Sagar district

    [ad_1]

Bhopal: The Madhya Pradesh government would construct a temple of Sant Ravidas in Sagar district at a cost of Rs 100 crore, it said on Wednesday.

Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan made the announcement at Ravidas Mahakumbh, an event held to commemorate the 15th century saint-poet, in Sagar district.

The mystic poet and reformer enjoys a nationwide following, especially among a section of the Dalits.

Chouhan also announced that 20 per cent plots in the state’s industrial clusters would be reserved for the scheduled castes (SC) and scheduled tribes (ST).

“A temple of Sant Ravidas will be built at Bartuma village near Sagar at a cost of Rs 100 crore. The couplets and teachings of Sant Ravidas will be inscribed on the walls of the temple. His personality and work will also be showcased,” Chouhan said.

The government’s Mukhyamantri Teerth-Darshan Yojana, a pilgrimage scheme, would also cover Banaras, the saint’s birthplace, he said.

  • Temple priest confronts Kumaraswamy over his “anti Brahmin” remarks

Temple priest confronts Kumaraswamy over his “anti Brahmin” remarks

    [ad_1]

Gokarna: Days after his controversial statement that Union Minister Pralhad Joshi belonged to a sect of Brahmins, which lacks culture and divides society, a temple priest here on Wednesday confronted JD(S) leader H D Kumarswamy, expressing displeasure over his remarks, and urged him to clarify.

Akhila Karnataka Brahmana Mahasabha has condemned Kumaraswamy’s “anti Brahmin” statements and there are reports about protests condemning the JD(S) leaders from various parts of the state.

Facing criticism from the community, political leaders, especially the BJP, and various sections, the former Chief Minister clarified that his statement was misconstrued, and it was not at all directed towards Brahmins.

“Your anti Brahmin statement has very much hurt us…..please don’t be upset because I’m saying this. We have regards for your family….I have earlier spoken to Deve Gowda (former PM and Kumaraswamy’s father) here and felicitated him, later he went on to become Chief Minister, Prime Minister and you too became the Chief Minister,” the priest told Kumaraswamy, who visited the temple.

He said, “We are happy about your administration, but your recent comments have hurt us, I urge you to give a clarification to it here itself and go.”

Kumaraswamy told the priest that he wants to make it clear that he is not anti Brahmin, and did not speak about the Brahmin community. and he was referring to BJP and Peshwas. “We have great respect for the Brahmin community”, he said.

Noting that his comments have been misrepresented, he said, “We always respect the Brahmins who have the culture of saying ‘Sarve jana sukhino bhavantu’, and he was referring to those who had destroyed Sringeri math.”

Kumaraswamy had on Sunday claimed that the RSS was “conspiring” to make Pralhad Joshi the Chief Minister of Karnataka along with eight Deputies, after the assembly polls, and alleged that the latter belonged to a category among Brahmins, which lack culture and divides society.

Coming down heavily on Joshi for criticising JD(S)’ “dynasty politics” and its ‘Pancharatna Ratha Yatre’, he said, the union minister belongs to a Brahmin sect to which the Maratha Peshwas belonged and that had allegedly destroyed Sringeri Math, established by Adi Shankaracharya and desecrated the idol there, and also that killed Mahatma Gandhi.

Criticising JD(S)’ dynasty politics and alleged infighting in the first family of that party over ticket distribution, Joshi while addressing BJP’s special state executive meet had on Saturday said, “they are taking out ‘Pancharantna Yatra’, but instead they should have undertaken ‘Navagraha Yatre’, as 8-9 family members of party patriarch H D Deve Gowda’s immediate family are in politics.

Kumaraswamy after the temple visit, told media that he has been complimented by many for his statement and courage.

“People have told me that I have stated facts and something that makes people aware. Many Brahmin community people have complimented me,” he said, while listing out his contributions for the Brahmin community, when he was in power.

Hitting out at the ruling BJP, Kumaraswamy said, “What I have said is we don’t want Savarkar culture and DNA. We want the Brahmin community with DNA of Sarve jana sukhino bhavantu.”
