Telangana: 26 men acquitted in 2012 Saidabad communal violence case

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: A local court acquitted 26 persons who were charged by the police for their alleged involvement in communal violence that rocked Saidabad and nearby localities in April 2012.

The Hyderabad police booked six cases against the alleged rioters. The incident at Saidabad began on April 8, 2012, when two groups of Hindus and Muslims clashed at Kurmaguda after ‘pieces of meat’ were found near a temple in Madannapet. It resulted in heavy stone-pelting and brick-batting which was followed by an incident of stabbing.

The police had clamped down curfew in two police station limits to control the violence then at Saidabad. Six Hindu men were arrested by the police for allegedly keeping the pieces of meat in the temple.

The arrested youngsters were identified as GHMC sanitation supervisor, Nagaraj of Maddannapet, flower decorator Kiran Kumar, hotel waiter Ramesh alias Chinna, car driver Dayand Singh of Kurmaguda, Srinivas alias Salman Srinu and liquor trader Niranjan.

The police had claimed that Srinu and Niranjan conspired at a restaurant on April 7 when they asked Nagaraj, Kiran Kumar, Ramesh and Dayanand Singh to throw pieces of cow legs and spray green-colour water on the wall of Sri Abhayanjaneya Swamy temple which divides two clusters of homes where two groups of people resided.

“Nagaraj, Kiran, Ramesh and Dayanad gathered at a wine shop at Champapet and discussed the preparation, and procurement of the materials to be used at the temple. After having consumed liquor, Nagaraju and Ramesh procured two pieces of cow legs and a paint bottle. They went to the temple and threw the cow legs on the temple wall and also sprayed the coloured water at the place,’’ police had claimed then.

After ten long years, the court proved the charges false and acquitted the six persons and 20 others who were arrested in other cases related to violence.

Karuna Sagar, who extended legal help and represented the acquitted persons said, “Today 26 Hindu youth were acquitted in six cases of 2012 Saidabad communal riots. Out of which one case was so malicious that six Hindu youth were implicated as conspirators behind temple desecration.”

He further tweeted that police officers behind the malicious case must be tried for defamation.

Telangana HC asks state govt to conduct Republic day event at Parade grounds

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: As a pushback to the Telangana government’s call to not celebrate Republic day at Parade grounds, the state High Court on Wednesday asked the government to adhere to the Defence ministry’s formulations for the Republic day at Parade grounds.

The state government reportedly has told Raj Bhavan that it may organise the R-Day celebration separately, breaking with tradition for the second year in a row by not holding a unified formal ceremony at Secunderabad’s Parade Ground.

In 2022, owing to COVID-19 pandemic restrictions, KCR decided not to hold any Republic Day celebrations at the Parade Grounds in Secunderabad.

On Thursday, Telangana Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan said that her office did not receive any communication from the government on conducting the upcoming Republic Day event.

The rift between the Telangana Governor and the KCR government has deepened over the last two years. KCR is visibly upset about the Governor delaying the passing of 8 legislative bills in the assembly.

Soundararajan, a former Tamil Nadu BJP chief, took over as Telangana governor in 2019, but her relationship with the KCR government soured within a year. BRS leaders chastised her for acting like a ‘BJP agent,’ while the governor claimed Raj Bhavan personnel were being humiliated.

Telangana education minister seeks relief from illegal mining charges

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: Telangana’s education minister P Sabitha Indra Reddy is seeking relief from illegal mining charges brought by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

While contesting the orders of the Special CBI Court in Hyderabad, Sabitha filed a criminal revision petition in the Telangana High Court on Tuesday.

The CBI court had rejected discharge applications submitted by Sabitha, AP IAS officer Y Srilakshmi, and former AP Mines and Geology director VD Rajagopal in October 2022.

The defendants claimed that they were only doing their jobs and had not committed any crime.

The CBI charged them with assisting mining baron G Janardhan Reddy in illegally extracting iron ore on the AP-Karnataka border and exporting it.

Sabitha, in undivided AP, was the mining minister while Krupanandam and Srilakshmi were working as secretaries in the industries and mines department respectively when they were charged with conspiring with Janardhan Reddy and his OMC.

The petition will likely be heard in a few days.

‘KCR has time to pay tributes to titular Nizam…’: Telangana BJP chief

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: Bharat Janata Party Telangana unit president Bandi Sanjay on Tuesday came down heavily on State Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao and said that people of the state will soon be liberated from the autocratic rule of KCR.

Addressing the BJP Telangana two-day-long State Executive meeting, which concluded in Mahbubnagar yesterday, Bandi Sanjay terming CM KCR as the 8th Nizam, said, “People of Telangana will be liberated very soon from the autocratic rule of KCR”.

Bandi Sanjay’s reactions came against the backdrop of Bharat Rashtra Samithi chief KCR’s decision to skip the all-party meeting led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in December last year under the rubric of India G-20 presidency.

“Telangana CM KCR has ample time to pay tributes to the titular Nizam (who passed away last week) and offered condolences to his family members, whose ancestors have tortured Telangana people and sucked their blood,” he said.

The BJP leader also heaped praises on PM Modi saying that India is on the way to becoming ‘Vishwa Guru’ (world leader).

“Swami Vivekanand, whose birth name was also Narendra, had predicted that India would become Vishwa Guru in the 21st century, and it is coming true under Narendra Modi’s leadership,” he said adding that under the leadership of PM Modi, India gained presidency for G-20 group, which is a big opportunity.

Earlier in December last year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired an all-party meeting to underscore the significance of India’s presidency of the G20 and brief the leaders about the government’s approach.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar were among the leaders present at the meeting.

Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin, and Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik were among those present at the meeting which took place at Rashtrapati Bhavan, but Telangana CM KCR abstained from attending the meeting.

Bibinagar police on December 8, 2014, had received a complaint from P. Agamaiah, 50 that his daughter Lavanya who was married to V. Krishna 13 years ago and had a son, killed herself due to domestic violence and dowry harassment.

The accused Krishna, 39, a resident of Jameelapet, Bibinagar started harassing his wife for additional dowry just a few days after their marriage.

Lavanya, unable to bear the torture, took the matter in front of her elders who mediated it and settled the issue between the couple.

Telangana: BJP planning to tax farmers’ income after driving them into crisis, says KTR

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: Telangana IT and Industries minister KT Rama Rao launched a scathing attack against the BJP-led Centre on Tuesday, accusing it of driving the country’s farming community into crisis and considering taxing farmers’ income.

“Prime Minister Narendra Modi had promised to double the farmers’ income by 2022. But instead, when the income of farmers is shrinking, the BJP-led centre is preparing to levy income tax on them. How is this ok?” he asked.

The Minister made these remarks after laying the foundation for various development projects in the Narayanpet district, as well as inaugurating facilities worth Rs196 crore.

Reacting to the speculations that the BJP is planning to field PM Modi from the Mahabubnagar parliament seat in the upcoming general election in 2024, KTR asked why the people of Telangana should vote for him.

“Telangana had been pleading with the centre for eight years to resolve the Krishna river water-sharing dispute and to grant national status to the Palamuru Rangareddy Lift Irrigation (PRLI) scheme, but they refused,” he said.

He also chastised the BJP state unit for failing to raise long-pending Telangana issues with the centre.

KTR demanded that the BJP state executive meeting in Mahabubnagar should pass resolutions demanding national status for PRLI and resolving the River Krishna water dispute.

  • Telangana: Sharmila to resume padayatra from Jan 28

Telangana: Sharmila to resume padayatra from Jan 28

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: YSR Telangana party chief Y S Sharmila on Tuesday announced the resumption of her ‘Praja Prasthanam Padyatra‘ on January 28.

The leader came down heavily on chief minister K Chandrashekhar Rao and mocked him for ‘enthralling’ in national politics while keeping Telangana citizens in distress for the past nine years.

“It has been only the YSRTP that steadfastly and unconditionally took on KCR and his corrupt and tyrannical government. We never bowed down even when they tried hard to corner us, abusing power and authority,” said the YSR chief.

“With honesty in our intentions and affection for Telangana, and above all, recalling the people-friendly reign of YSR, we travelled across Telangana and covered 3500km, only to be troubled and threatened by KCR, who was now scared of our growing prominence and the manner in which we exposed their local MLAs and MPs.” added Sharmila.

Recounting the chain of events that she claimed were born out of KCR’s growing sense of insecurity, Sharmila went on to add, “We will continue to battle his inefficient rule marked by failed promise, as we did with Kaleshwaram or Palamuru or unemployment or other issues.”

“My entry to Paleru has rocked his morale and now he realized that the YSRTP is growing in its popularity and presence in the entire district along with contiguous parts of Nalgonda,” she contented.

YS Sharmila also ruled out early elections to the Telangana Assembly, as she claimed KCR was not ready to take on the anti-incumbency and also for the much-needed stature as a chief minister to travel across the country.

She further lashed out at Congress’s Revanth Reddy and BJP’s Bandi Sanjay for their inefficiency in exposing KCR and his corruption.
