BRS boycotting Prez’s address disrespectful to Dalit, Adivasi women: Telangana BJP

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: Telangana BJP chief Bandi Sanjay Kumar on Tuesday called Bharat Rashtra Samithi’s (BRS) call to boycott President Droupadi Murmu’s address to the Parliament as being disrespectful to Dalit, Adivasi women.

“BRS couldn’t digest the fact that an Adivasi woman became the President of India. If BRS had issues with the speech, the party could have raised them when they get the chance to speak but need not boycott. They should immediately issue an apology,” Sanjay said.

The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) decided to boycott the Presidential address on Tuesday to highlight the failure of the Union Government, while Leader of Opposition (LoP) Mallikarjun Kharge and several Congress leaders are stuck at Srinagar airport due to bad weather.

Sanjay Singh of the AAP said that the address is a ‘bundle of lies’ and that the AAP will boycott it.

President Droupadi Murmu addressed the joint sitting of Parliament for the first time since being elected to the post. She outlayed the government’s vision for the current year.

In her first address to Parliament as President, Draupadi Murmu on Tuesday expressed her gratitude to citizens for electing a stable government for two consecutive terms and said that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi government has been identified as a decisive government.

“Wherever there is political instability anywhere in the world, those countries are surrounded by a massive crisis. But due to the decisions my government took in the national interest, India is in a better position as compared to other countries,” Murmu said.

Terming the government, a stable, fearless, and decisive one, “Murmu said, “My government is working towards realising the big dreams.”

“My government has worked for every section of society without any discrimination. As a result of the efforts of my government in the last few years, many basic facilities have either reached 100 per cent population or are very close to that target,” the President said.

Telangana govt invites Governor to address joint Assembly session

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: Telangana Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan will be addressing a joint session of the Assembly and the council after a gap of almost a year.

Legislative affairs minister Vemula Prasanth Reddy along with other officials extended the invitation to the governor on Monday following which she approved clearing the annual financial budget, and the Bills pending with her.

The government officials filed a petition in High Court on Monday, seeking direction from the Governor for approval of the introduction of the budget.

However, the petition was closed later in the day after respective counsels struck a compromise.

Legislative affairs minister Prasanth Reddy held talks with chief minister K Chandrashekhar Rao at Pragathi Bhavan before calling on the Governor.

He then met the Governor along with special chief secretary (Finance) K Ramakrishna Rao and legislature secretary V Narasimha Charyulu.

Subsequently, a proposal will be sent to the Governor to prorogue the Assembly following which she will summon the Assembly session within a week.

However, it remains uncertain if the Assembly session will be held on the scheduled date or it would be postponed.

Glitch between the Governor and the government

The government last year conducted the budget without the customary address by the Governor, drawing a strong reaction from her.

The BRS government defended its move on the ground that it was not a new session but a continuation of the previous session.

The Budget session of the Assembly and Legislative Council is scheduled to begin on February 3.

With only four days left and no approval of the budget coming from the governor, the government approached the High Court.

The BRS leaders anticipated a crisis as seven Bills passed by the Assembly and Council have been languishing at Raj Bhavan since September last year.

The government has taken exception to the Governor’s delaying approval of the budget. It argued that the Governor’s speech and the Budget presentation were unrelated matters. It also says that there is no clause in the Constitution that requires the Governor to address the Budget session.

The BRS government cited Article 202 of the Constitution, which mandates that a Governor must give permission for presenting before the House a statement of the estimated receipts and expenditures of the state for a financial year.

With the BRS government approaching the court, the friction between the Governor and the government had taken a new turn.

  • Telangana: KTR inaugurates ITC’s food processing unit worth Rs 450 cr

Telangana: KTR inaugurates ITC’s food processing unit worth Rs 450 cr

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: IT and Industries minister KT Rama Rao inaugurated the ITC limited’s food processing facility, which entailed an initial investment of Rs 450 crore in Medak.

KTR has invited the multi-business Indian enterprise to open integrated food manufacturing and logistics facility in Telangana’s food processing zone apart from a manufacturing hub.

The food processing facility, spread over nearly 59 acres of land and with a built-up area of 6.5 lakh square feet, entails an initial investment outlay of Rs 450 crore.

Speaking at the inaugural event held in Medak on Monday, KTR said, “Telangana was preparing itself to set up special food processing zones at 10k acres to extend its support to the ITC if they came forward to expand its facility.”

Remarking that Telangana couldn’t be a better location logistically for the set-up, as it is situated in the middle of the country, KTR assured customized incentives to ITC in reviewing the Ballarpur Industries Limited (BILT) in Mulugu district while inviting the company chairman and MD Sanjiv Puri to explore the possibilities of ITC’s manufacturing hub in the state.

He further insisted the ITC’s chairman join hands and participate in CSR activities (Corporate Social Responsibility) for the betterment of existing health and education infrastructure in the locality.

Stressing on the extension of ITC’s support to local farmers, KTR requested ITC to use local raw materials, especially potatoes used in the manufacture of their ‘Bingo’ chips.

“This would ensure the quality of raw materials reaches ITC through agricultural scientists and Rythu Bandhu Samithis,” the minister added.

The new facility will be producing ITC’s food brands including Aashirvaad atta, Sunfeast biscuits, Bingo chips, and Yippee Noodles among others.

  • Telangana seeks funds in Union Budget for Railway projects

Telangana seeks funds in Union Budget for Railway projects

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: The Telangana government has urged Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw to ensure adequate budgetary allocations to state railway projects in the Union Budget.

In a letter to the Union Minister, state Industries and Commerce Minister K.T. Rama Rao highlighted severe discrimination being meted out to Telangana in budget allocation to various Railway projects.

KTR, as the state minister is popularly known, stated that the Union government has been ignoring repeated pleas from the state government to sanction funds for several important ongoing and proposed projects in the state. “The discrimination in the railway sector is more blatant and visible and the state has been getting a raw deal in every budget presented by the NDA government,” he wrote.

He pointed out that the 13th Schedule of AP State Reorganisation Act clearly states that the Indian Railways shall, within six months from the appointed day, examine the feasibility of establishing a Rail Coach Factory in the successor State of Telangana and improve rail connectivity in the state and take an expeditious decision thereon.

However, despite repeated appeals from the State government, the Union government has neither initiated any measure to establish a Rail Coach Factory in Kazipet nor granted any new major infrastructure project to improve rail connectivity in the state.

KTR wrote that Telangana contributes substantially to the revenues of South Central Railway (both freight and passenger). “The state is a crucial link between North and South India and is home to the most important Railway junctions – Secunderabad & Kazipet – in our country. Being a landlocked state, Telangana is heavily dependent on Railway infrastructure for transportation of goods and passengers. Addition of new Railway infrastructure will be a big boost to the state’s growth story. But the Union government is found wanting when it comes to extending necessary assistance to develop new transport infrastructure in Telangana,” he said.

The minister said that it is appalling to note that in the past eight years, just a little over 100 km of railway track has been laid in Telangana. The state has a paltry 3 per cent of the total railway lines in the country out of which about 57 per cent are single lane. “This lack of critical infra is depriving Telangana of any new trains. It is disheartening to note that in the past eight years, South Central Railway has launched only one new train from the capital city – Lingampally-Vijayawada Intercity Express.”

KTR pointed out that the current NDA Government has not grounded a single new Railway line in Telangana in the past eight years. Even the progress of joint venture railway projects taken up with the state government is also painfully slow.

The Union Minister was told that while the Union government spent just Rs 1,100 crore on ongoing Railway projects in the state, the state government has spent Rs 1,904 crore as its share. Several projects, which were cleared by earlier governments were shelved by the current Union government. Many other projects for which survey reports are submitted long back have also not moved an inch.

KTR mentioned high priority project proposals submitted years ago to the Railway Board and demanded that they be sanctioned.

He said that earlier, the South Central Railways used to convene a meeting of all Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha MPs from the region and accept proposals for new Railway projects and trains. Strangely, even that convention has been done away with this year, he added.
