Committed to conduct caste-based survey in Bihar, says Tejashwi

    [ad_1]

Patna: Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav on Thursday said that he is committed to the caste-based census in Bihar and despite the Patna High Court’s interim stay, asserted that it will be conducted in future.

“Our fight for the caste-based survey will continue in the state. The people of Bihar are in favour of caste-based survey. It is in the interest of common people.

“The decision of caste based survey was taken unanimously by all political parties of the state. It is not for any particular caste. It is for all,” he said.

    MS Education Academy

“Bihar government was conducting a caste-based survey at its own expense as the Centre had declined to make a financial contribution to it. The BJP did not want the caste- based survey being conducted in the state. They are frightened that once the actual data would come out, they would know how many people are staying below the poverty line and how many of them are landless. Who is in good financial condition and who has not. It is in the interest of all caste and community people,” Tejashwi Yadav said.

“As the interim order has come, the state government will analyse it and take the decision accordingly,” he said.

“After the court order, the BJP is celebrating the decision and spreading lies that they are in favour of caste-based survey. If it was the case, then why have they not conducted in any BJP-ruled states or by the Centre,” he added.

New Delhi: Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav on Tuesday left the Enforcement Directorate headquarters here after being questioned for eight hours in connection with the alleged land for job case involving his father and former Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav and other family members.

He reached the ED headquarters at 11 a.m. and left at around 9.10 p.m.

The CBI had questioned Tejashwi Yadav in the matter on March 25, and on the same day, his sister and Rajya Sabha member Misa Bharti was questioned.

    MS Education Academy

In March, the ED claimed unaccounted cash of Rs 1 crore, $1,900, 540 gms gold and 1.5 kg of gold jewellery and other incriminating documents were recovered during the raids conducted at 24 locations in Delhi, Mumbai, Patna and in Ranchi based on specific intelligence inputs.

The ED had said that they detected around Rs 600 crore in “proceeds of crime” which were in the form of immovable properties of Rs 350 crore and transactions of Rs 250 Crore routed through various benamidaars.

It alleged that the PMLA investigation conducted so far has revealed that several pieces of land at prominent locations in Patna and other areas were illegally acquired by the family of Lalu Prasad in lieu of jobs provided in Railways. The current market value of these land parcels is more than Rs 200 crore and several benamidars, shell entities and beneficial owners for these lands have been identified.

“A property situated at D-1088, New Friends Colony, Delhi (independent 4 storied bungalow, registered in the name of A.B. Exports Private Ltd, a company owned and controlled by Tejashwi Prasad Yadav and family) was shown to have been acquired at a value of mere Rs 4 lakh, the present market value of which is approximately Rs 150 crore,” the ED claimed.

An official claimed that huge amount of cash/Proceeds of Crime were infused in purchasing this property and few Mumbai-based entities, dealing in the gems and jewellery sector, were used to channel ill-gotten proceeds of crime in this regard.

“The property has been though, on paper, declared as office of A.B. Exports Private Ltd and AK Infosystems Pvt Ltd, is being exclusively used as residential premises by Tejashwi Prasad. During the searches, Tejashwi Prasad was found to be staying at this house and was found to be using this house as his residential property,” the ED alleged.

The ED said that their investigation has found that 4 parcels of lands acquired by the family of Lalu Yadav for just Rs 7.5 lakh from poor Group-D applicants were sold to former RJD MLA Syed Abu Dojana by Rabri Devi with huge gains at Rs 3.5 crore.

It said that their investigation has further revealed that a major portion of the amount thus received, was transferred to the account of Tejashwi Prasad.

It has been revealed during the investigation that in many Railways Zones, more than 50 per cent of recruited candidates were from Lalu Yadav families’ constituencies,” the ED said.

Post Iftar party in Bihar, Owaisi takes dig at Nitish, Tejashwi over riots

    [ad_1]

Patna: A day after Iftar party held at former chief minister Rabri Devi’s residence in Patna, AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi lashed out at Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and his deputy Tejashwi Yadav.

He said that they (Nitish, Tejashwi) are busy in fancy dress competition while police are taking action against Muslim youths in riots case.

Referring to communal violence in Sasaram and Biharsharif, Owaisi claimed that Nitish Kumar government is taking one sided action against youths of Muslim community and arresting them.

    MS Education Academy

“Following the communal violence in Sasaram and Biharsharif, the Nitish-Tejashwi government is sending the people of Muslim community to jail instead of rioters of Hindu community. Bihar Police are taking harsh action against Muslim youths and the ‘secular’ chief minister and deputy chief minister are busy in fancy dress competition,” Owaisi said in a tweet.

Nitish Kumar attended the Iftar party at Rabri Devi’s residence on Sunday. During the occasion, Tejashwi Yadav was wearing a Pathan suit while Nitish Kumar wore a shawl and cap.

Bihar Police have registered 15 FIRs against 104 persons form both the communities and arrested 100 so far. Bihar Police also arrested five persons for their alleged involvement in uploading provocative contents on social media during Ram Navami.

The officials claimed that due to provocative texts, audio and video contents, communal riots flared up in Biharsharif.

Nitish walks down to attend Iftar party hosted by Tejashwi

    [ad_1]

Patna: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar gave his VIP cavalcade a miss on Sunday evening when he sauntered a few hundred metres to attend the ‘Iftar’ party hosted by his deputy Tejashwi Yadav.

The march towards 10, Circular Road, reminded people of a similar sight a year ago when Kumar’s visit to the house allotted to his predecessor in power Rabri Devi, who is Yadav’s mother, had given an inkling of the political cataclysm the JD(U) supremo was set to trigger in a few months.

Now, firmly in the ‘Mahagathbandhan’, Kumar reached the venue smilingly, flanked on either side by confidants Rajiv Ranjan Singh alias Lalan, the JD(U)’s national president, and Vijay Kumar Chaudhary, a minister known to be the ‘trouble shooter’ of his boss.

    MS Education Academy

The young Deputy CM, who was donning a ‘Pathan’ suit, welcomed the visitors with bouquets of flowers and placed skullcaps on their heads, a practice followed by practitioners of ‘secular’ politics in Bihar, which the BJP, their natural opponent, has always been all too happy to denounce as an alleged gesture of ‘appeasement’.

As Kumar and his loyalists took their seats, beside hosts Yadav and Rabri Devi, there was a sudden wave of excitement upon the arrival of Chirag Paswan, who has earned the reputation of being the chief minister’s most venomous detractor.

Those not familiar with Bihar politicos’ ability to keep personal relationships and political rivalries apart, watched agape as the LJP (Ram Vilas) chief touched the feet of the septuagenarian, an old associate of his late father Ram Vilas Paswan.

“I have family relations with Lalu Prasad (RJD supremo) and his family, so I come here every year. My differences with Nitish Kumar are policy-based and not personality-based”, Paswan told reporters afterwards.

The Jamui MP, who has in the past accused Kumar of disrespecting his late father during his lifetime, remains a politically ambivalent figure despite his open admiration of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and, in a few recent assembly by-polls, having canvassed for the BJP.

When Union Home Minister Amit Shah recently expressed hopes of BJP winning “all 40 Lok Sabha seats”, it was portrayed in a section of the media as the indication that the national party may not give much weightage to allies in the state where it is pitted against the seven-party ‘Mahagathbandhan’.

When Paswan was asked about Shah’s contention, he replied with trademark nonchalance “my party, too, is preparing for all the 40 seats. How many we will actually fight will be decided later on”.

The young leader’s bravado seems to have riled his uncle Pashupati Kumar Paras, who remains miffed at having lost the limelight to the nephew, despite proclamations of being the real political heir of late Paswan.

“Do not call Chirag my ‘bhateeja’ (nephew). The blood flowing in our veins is not the same. My party remains a firm ally of the NDA”, snapped Paras, who had revolted against his nephew in 2021, splitting the Lok Janshakti Party, and winning a berth in the Union cabinet later on.

Paras was asked about Chirag Paswan’s political trajectory at a press conference where he had sought to showcase his own achievements, in the last couple of years, as the Minister for Food Processing Industries.

Meanwhile, for 33 years old Yadav, the optics at the ‘Iftaar’ served as an opportunity to assert that young age notwithstanding, he was bracing for the long haul and one whom political players of different hues took seriously.

Others who turned up at the feast hosted by the Deputy CM included state Congress president Akhilesh Prasad Singh, former Chief Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi and Jan Adhikar Party founder Pappu Yadav.

Bihar’s people will straighten those who want to hang people upside down: Tejashwi

    [ad_1]

Patna: Bihar’s Deputy Chief minister Tejashwi Yadav on Wednesday slammed Union Home Minister Amit Shah over his statement of hanging people, behind the recent violence “upside down”.

“The people of Bihar will make straight those who are claiming to hang people upside down.

“Some people come from Gujarat and make statements here. This is the land of Mahatma Buddha. Gandhi became Mahatma Gandhi in Bihar, it is a land of Karpoori Thakur, Lalu Prasad, and Nitish Kumar and it will not tolerate any rioter. The leaders of BJP conspired during the holy month (Ramzan) but now we would not let anyone go scot free. The state government is looking after the matter very seriously,” Yadav said.

    MS Education Academy

“On the day of Ram Navami, the march was held at 118 places. It was peacefully completed at all the places except in Sasaram and Bihar Sharif. The people of BJP tried to flare up the riots at these two places. Earlier, they had tried to create a fight between Bihar and Tamil Nadu but failed. Now, they were involved in riots. I want to tell them that those who were involved in riots will not go scot free,” he added.

“We may be in power or not, peace and social harmony will remain in Bihar. They had freaked out after the massive rally of Purnea. The people of Bihar are smart and they understand it very well,” the RJD leader said.

“I want to appeal to the people of Bihar to not to come under the influence of BJP and rioters. They are misleading the people from the real issues. Amit Shah should tell us whether the Centre would give special status to Bihar or not,” he added.

Land-for-jobs ‘scam’: Bihar Deputy CM Tejashwi questioned by CBI, ED quizzes sister Misa

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: Investigation agencies on Saturday questioned Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav and his MP sister Misa Bharti in connection with the railways land-for-jobs scam case here, officials said.

While Yadav was quizzed by the CBI for more than eight hours, the ED questioned Bharti for over six hours, they said.

Slamming the BJP over the questioning of the two Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leaders, Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra alleged the ruling party wants to finish off the Opposition and democracy and also expressed solidarity saying, “We are all united against the attack on democracy.”

In a tweet in Hindi, she said, “BJP wants to finish off the Opposition and democracy from this country. That is why it is continuously attacking the voice of the people in the Opposition.”

Yadav had missed three earlier dates given by the agency and arrived at the CBI headquarters here around 10:30 am according to his commitment to the Delhi High Court last week, they said.

He was questioned till around 8 PM with a nearly 90-minute lunch break, during which he went out of the building, they said.

The CBI’s line of inquiry was believed to have focused on Yadav’s financial transactions, including his purported links to AB Exports Private Limited and AK Infosystems Pvt Ltd.

Last week, the CBI assured the Delhi High Court that Yadav would not be arrested this month.

Bharti was questioned by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in the railways land-for-jobs linked money laundering case here, officials said.

The Rajya Sabha member went to the agency’s office in central Delhi around 11 am and exited around 7 pm.

She left for lunch for over an hour in the noon during she which told waiting reporters outside the ED office that the proceedings were “confidential” and hence she would not want to comment.

It is understood that her statement was recorded by the investigating officer under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).

Yadav’s counsel, Maninder Singh, had informed the high court that he would require some time to appear before the CBI investigators due to the ongoing Bihar Assembly session, scheduled to conclude on April 5.

The CBI’s counsel, D P Singh, had argued that the assembly was not convened on Saturdays and Yadav could appear before the agency on any Saturday in March according to his convenience.

The RJD leader had sought quashing of the summonses issued against him on February 28, March 4 and March 11.

A special CBI court had already granted bail to Yadav’s father Lalu Prasad, mother Rabri Devi, sister Bharti and others in the same case on March 15.

The CBI’s probe is part of an ongoing investigation into documents and evidence that came to light after the initial charge sheet was submitted, as well as the alleged involvement of accused persons that could not be completed by the time the initial report was filed.

Officials said that fresh questioning was taking place as part of further investigation based on new inputs gathered during the agency’s ongoing probe.

The CBI has alleged that during Lalu Prasad’s tenure as railway minister from 2004 to 2009, favourite candidates were appointed in violation of norms and procedures without any advertisement or public notice.

The agency further claimed that substitutes from Patna were appointed in various zonal railways in Mumbai, Jabalpur, Kolkata, Jaipur, and Hazipur. In return, the candidates, directly or through their family members, allegedly sold land to Prasad’s family members at highly-discounted rates.

BJP frightens Hindus for political gains: Tejashwi in Bihar assembly

    [ad_1]

Patna: Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav on Tuesday launched a fresh attack on the BJP inside the state assembly where he charged the opposition party with stoking “fear in the minds of Hindus” for political gains.

Yadav was replying to the debate on budgetary allocation for the health department, a portfolio that he holds, amid a walkout by the BJP on the second consecutive day.

“I had said a lot yesterday and I had hoped that the opposition leaders will be around today to take the debate forward. But they chose to run away. They have not even moved a cut motion. I will say something about them towards the end of my statement”, Yadav told the Chair before launching into a speech that ran for over 20 minutes.

Outside the assembly, Leader of the Opposition Vijay Kumar Sinha insisted that the walkout followed “the government’s refusal to entertain a host of issues raised by us, including alleged involvement of a minister in a murder case and corruption cases against the Deputy CM himself”.

“Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has surrendered before his new ally (RJD) and the state is reverting to the era of lawlessness from which we had pulled it out with so much of effort”, alleged the BJP leader, whose party was stripped of power when Kumar snapped ties in August last year.

He also alleged that Speaker Awadh Bihari Chaudhary, who belongs to the RJD, had been running the House in a partisan manner.

When pointed out that Yadav has sought an apology for having been proven wrong on allegations of attacks on migrants in Tamil Nadu, Sinha stood his ground saying “the report of the team of officials that toured that state should be tabled inside the House for discussion”.

Inside the House, Yadav ended his speech, after which the budgetary demand for the health department was passed by a voice vote, tearing into the opposition party.

“The BJP likes to thrive in a paradox wherein people shall remain happy as Hindus despite being unemployed and having to survive on five kilograms of free ration. Hindus comprise 85 per cent of the population and the BJP instils in them fear of the remaining 15 per cent so that they remain beholden to the party”, said Yadav.

Yadav, who had promised 10 lakh jobs to the state’s youth, which helped him catch the public imagination in the 2020 assembly polls and propelled the RJD to the position of the single largest party, also told the House that the government was planning to provide employment to 1.6 lakh people in the health department itself.

“I am grateful to the Honourable Chief Minister who is present here and has fully supported me in fulfilling the promise of 10 lakh jobs. He has personally presided over a function where appointment letters were given to more than 10,000 recruits in the health department”, the Deputy CM added.

He, however, made it clear that the government will not tolerate laxity on part of employees and pointed out that “action has been initiated against 700 doctors who have been absent from duty for long. In one cabinet meeting, termination orders were passed for 70 of such erratic officials”.

He also disclosed that plans were afoot for an “emergency cadre” to ensure that patients do not suffer during unforeseen circumstances like strikes. In addition, a new “referral policy” was shaping up to put a check on the practice of doctors in other districts referring patients to Patna at the drop of a hat.

“We are also trying to put in place conditions wherein more and more medical facilities become available in various districts. This would further de-congest the hospitals in the state capital”, said Yadav.

He also said that the government was sensitive to the fact that a large number of employees in the health department were women for the benefit of whom sanitary pad vending machines were being installed at hospitals.

“We are also considering a proposal to make these vending machines available to women admitted to the health centres”, said the young leader.

Land-for-jobs scam: Tejashwi Yadav to appear before CBI on Mar 25

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: The CBI on Thursday assured the Delhi High Court it will not arrest Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav this month, after which the politician agreed he will appear before the central probe agency on March 25 for questioning in connection with a case related to the alleged land-for-jobs scam.

Justice Dinesh Kumar Sharma recorded the CBI counsel’s statement that the agency was not thinking about arresting Tejashwi Yadav in this month.

Following the assurance, senior advocate Maninder Singh, representing Tejashwi Yadav, submitted to the court his client will appear on March 25 before the investigating officer at CBI headquarters in Delhi at 10:30 am.

Noting the submissions by both parties, the high court disposed of the petition, in which Tejashwi Yadav sought quashing of the summons issued to him by the Central Bureau of Investigation.

RJD supremo and former Bihar Chief Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav’s son Tejashwi in his plea said he had requested the investigating officer through multiple letters to allow him some time as the current Bihar Assembly session will conclude on April 5.

He said he had requested that either he is allowed to appear in the CBI office at Patna or if any information or documents are required from his side then he shall provide the same through his authorized representative in New Delhi.

The case relates to alleged appointments made in the railways in return for land parcels gifted or sold to Lalu Prasad Yadav’s family when he was the railway minister between 2004 and 2009. The CBI, in its chargesheet, alleged that irregular appointments were made in the railways, violating norms and procedures of the Indian Railways for recruitment.
