Hyderabad: Three teenagers drowned while taking bath in the Manair stream in Karimnagar on Tuesday evening amid Holi celebrations.
Veeranjaneyulu, 16, G Sanoth, 13, and V. Anil, 14 hailing from migrant workers’ families from Chimakurthy in Andhra Pradesh’s Prakasham district were residing at the Housing Board Colony in Karimnagar.
The trio reportedly ventured into the stream to take bath soon after celebrating the festival of colours and got trapped into a pit dug for the Manair River Front Development Project in the stream.
Not knowing the swimming technique, their bodies drowned in the stream and were later retrieved by the police.
Meanwhile, Telangana BC Welfare minister Gangula Kamalakar said that chief minister K Chandrashekhar Rao had announced an ex gratia of Rs 3 lakh each to the kin of the deceased while he would give Rs 2 lakh each to kin as well.
A teenager head gets tonsured for allegedly stealing Rs 100/- in Ghaziabad.
In a video showing a teenager being tonsured and thrashed on suspicion of stealing Rs 100 by unidentified persons in Garima Nagar of Ghaziabad district, Uttar Pradesh, has gone viral on social media platforms.
The incident took place on Monday.
The victim who identifies himself as Shahrukh is seen pleading with his attackers not to shave his head. However, they do not listen and forcefully perform the act. A Right-wing sadhvi, Aastha Maa uploaded the video on her official Facebook page, which now stands deleted for unknown reasons.
According to the statement by the Police Commissionerate of Ghaziabad, five people – Salman, Shahrukh, Anil, Jaikishan, and Wajid – have been arrested so far. In a press release from their official Twitter page, the police clarified there is no communal angle to the incident.
However, when Siasat.com spoke to a police official. who wished to remain unnamed, said Wajid is still on the run.

SRINAGAR: Teenagers are much more likely to smoke and be dependent on nicotine if a parent and grandparent is dependent on nicotine, a recent study has revealed.
The cross-sectional study published in journal of Integrative Medicine and Public Health, a publication of Department of Community Medicine, Government Medical College, Srinagar, has revealed that teenager whose parents smoke are five times more likely to become smokers and the teenagers whose grandparents smoke are two times more likely to become smokers.
As per the study, 430 patients which included 215 tobacco users and 215 non-tobacco users were included in the study and they were aged between 15 and 25 years and were age and gender matched in the ratio of 1:1.
A self-administered questionnaire was used to collect information regarding their self-tobacco use, form of use, parental and grandparental tobacco use.
Among the 215 study participants in each group, the distributions of male and female participants were 212 (98.6%) and three (1.4%), respectively, the study participants with paternal tobacco habit were 5.28 times more likely to adopt the tobacco habit compared to the study participants without paternal tobacco use and study participants with paternal grandfather tobacco use were 1.57 times more likely to develop the tobacco habit than the study participants without paternal grandfather tobacco use and both the association was found to be statistically highly, it reads.
It said that participants who had higher maternal strictness were 0.077 less likely to develop the tobacco habit compared to the study participants with lower maternal strictness which was found to be statistically significant. Participants with higher paternal warmth were 0.097 times less likely to adopt the tobacco habit compared to study participants with lower paternal warmth which was found to be statistically significant.
For an effective tobacco control program among tobacco users, counseling of participants’ father and mother should be done simultaneously.
It said anti-tobacco activities should emphasize and make parents realize the importance the family plays in the development of tobacco behavior—(KNO)

Thiruvananthapuram: Cannabis is the most common drug used among teenagers who were either arrested or treated for related cases in Kerala, according to a report on a survey by the State Excise Department.
The report, released by Excise Minister M B Rajesh on Saturday, was based on a study conducted among 600 people under the age of 19.
“Cannabis is the most common drug used among teenegers… They get into it through smoking cigarettes,” said the report received by the Excise Commissioner Ananthakrishnan.
The Excise Department said the survey was conducted only among the drug cases detected by the department and the teenagers who were in the de-addiction centre under Vimukti scheme and not the general public.
“All the 600 people were either arrested in drug cases or housed and treated at de-addiction centres under Vimukti in the State. Of the total 600 people, 155 are accused in various drug cases while 376 were those who reached various de-addiction centres,” an official statement said.
The study, led by Excise sociologist Vinu Vijayan and psychologist Reeja Rajan, sought for stronger enforcement measures.
Also, the department initiated a study, in association with the Student Police Cadets, among the general public on the same matter.
“A comprehensive survey is being conducted by collecting information from one lakh people. The source of intoxication, the main intoxicating substances used, and the reasons why teenagers are attracted to intoxication will be surveyed in the first phase,” the statement said.
The effectiveness of the activities and further suggestions would be collected in the second phase while the strengthening of enforcement activities would be studied in the final phase, it said.
