Educators Honored on Teachers’ Day: Celebrating the Shapers of Minds

In a heartfelt tribute to the unsung heroes shaping the future, nations around the world celebrate Teachers’ Day today, recognizing the invaluable contributions of educators who tirelessly impart knowledge, inspire curiosity, and mold the leaders of tomorrow.

    Global Recognition

Teachers’ Day, celebrated on the 5th of September in many countries, including India, China, and Malaysia, has grown into a global celebration of the teaching profession. It is an opportunity to acknowledge the dedication and passion of educators who play a pivotal role in society.

    A Tribute to Dedication

“Teachers are the cornerstone of our society,” says Sarah Anderson, spokesperson for the Global Educators Foundation. “Their tireless dedication to nurturing young minds is instrumental in creating a brighter future for all. It’s essential to take a moment today to express our gratitude.”

    A Challenging Year

The past year and a half have been particularly challenging for educators worldwide due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Teachers adapted quickly to remote learning, often working longer hours to ensure their students received quality education. “Our teachers have been nothing short of extraordinary,” notes David Robinson, President of the National Teachers Association.

    Innovative Teaching Methods

In addition to their adaptability, many teachers have embraced innovative teaching methods, incorporating technology and creative approaches to engage students. These educators have been vital in ensuring continuity of education during these trying times.

    Looking Ahead

As we celebrate Teachers’ Day, it’s an opportunity for governments, communities, and parents to reflect on the importance of education and support educators in their mission. Investing in teacher training, well-being, and professional development remains crucial for a brighter future.

    Education for All

Education advocates also emphasize the need for equitable access to quality education for all children worldwide. Many children still lack access to education due to various socio-economic factors, and addressing this issue remains a global priority.

    A Time for Gratitude

On this Teachers’ Day, let’s take a moment to thank the educators who have made a significant impact on our lives and continue to do so. Their unwavering commitment to shaping the minds of the future deserves our utmost appreciation.

Bihar woman teacher found taking salary for 5 months while in Gujarat

    [ad_1]

Patna: A woman assistant teacher in Bihar’s Khagaria district was found taking salary for the past 5 months while staying in Gujarat, an Education Department official said on Tuesday.

The incident came to light when Block Education Officer Ram Uday Mahto went to the government primary school located at ward number 4 and found the teacher, named Seema Kumari, absent for a few months. She was deployed at this school on deputation.

“When we enquired with the department, it appeared that the department is releasing the monthly salary on the basis of attendance being shown by the headmaster of her original middle school located at Bhadas village,” Mahto said.

“The primary school was sending the absentee report to her original school located at Bhadas village. Headmaster Vikas Kumar of the school converted her absentee attendance into attendance. On this basis of her attendance, the department was issuing her salary from September 2022.

“We have sent the report to the District Education Officer with the recommendation of stopping the salaries of Seema Kumari and Vikas Kumar. The department has done it,” he added.

Sources have said that more than 400 teachers are on the radar of the Education Department for using the deputation ploy to take salaries without going to work at school for a a single day.

Uyughur woman, teacher testify of torture, brainwashing in Chinese camps to US Congress

    [ad_1]

Washington: Two women who say they experienced and escaped Chinese “re-education camps” have provided first-hand testimony to members of the US Congress, giving harrowing detail while imploring Americans not to look away from what Washington has declared a continuing genocide of Muslim ethnic minorities.

Testifying before a special House committee on Thursday, Gulbahar Haitiwaji, an Uyghur woman, said that during her nearly three years in internment camps and police stations, prisoners were subjected to 11 hours of “brainwashing education” each day, the Guardian reported.

It included singing patriotic songs and praising the Chinese government before and after meals.

Haitiwaji said detainees were punished for speaking in Uyghur and endured routine interrogations during which they were hooded and shackled to their chairs.

On one occasion, she said, she was chained to her bed for 20 days.

Female prisoners were told they would be vaccinated, when they were being sterilised, the Guardian reported.

“There are cameras all over the camp,” Haitiwaji said. “Our every move was monitored.”

She said in written testimony that after her head was shaved, she had a feeling of “losing my sense of self, losing my ability to even remember the faces of my family members”, the Guardian reported.

Qelbinur Sidik, a member of China’s ethnic Uzbek minority who is now a human rights activist living in the Netherlands, told of being coerced by Chinese authorities into teaching classes at one of China’s internment camps.

Through a translator, she described the detention facilities as “like a war zone” with razor wire fencing and armed guards.

Sidik recalled hearing the “horrible screaming sounds” of Uyghur prisoners as they were tortured, the Guardian reported.

  • Oscar winner Guneet Monga’s teacher recalls her as ‘highly creative’

Oscar winner Guneet Monga’s teacher recalls her as ‘highly creative’

    [ad_1]

Lucknow: Oscar winner Guneet Monga has a Lucknow connection.

Prof Govind Pandey, the Dean of the department of mass communication and journalism of the School of Media and Communication at Dr Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University, was proud to share that he taught Guneet at Madhu Bala Institute of Communication and Electronic Media (MBICEM) affiliated to Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University in 2002.

“Guneet Monga was a student of Bachelor of Journalism and Mass Communication at MBICEM where I taught television journalism and was supervising the short films at the institute as well,” Prof Pandey said.

He further said, “She was creative since college days and actively participated in cocurricular activities. I pray Guneet motivates others to make meaningful documentaries. As a teacher, I pray that she gets more and more awards and motivates many more young filmmakers to make meaningful documentary films. Her Oscar-winning film is a great example of the peaceful living of humans, and animals in their natural habitat.”

Zoologist Gyaneshwar Shukla said, “Elephant Whisperers” that won Guneet an Oscar, is a very informative documentary depicting our wildlife heritage and man-animal especially pachyderm coexistence and sustainability of social eco-system. Unfortunately, our universities are producing hundreds of graduates, postgraduates and doctorates in zoology but not a single zoologist can match this production. This can serve as an eye-opener to change and modify curricula to encourage more such productions as we have the richest biodiversity and legacy of living with our animals.”

    This is Monga’s second Oscar.

Earlier, she had won it in 2019 for ‘Period. End Of Sentence’, in Documentary Short category. Monga was the executive producer for ‘Period’.

  • Drunk Teacher Triggers School Lockdown In JK Village

    [ad_1]

SRINAGAR: A government primary school in Jammu and Kashmir’s Doda was locked down by the residents of Chanti village after a teacher was discovered drunk during school hours. The incident, which occurred on Saturday, was captured on video and circulated on social media, prompting officials to launch an investigation against the accused teacher, Bikram Singh. According to villagers, Singh had asked students to bring him a glass so that he could consume alcohol inside the school premises. When confronted by the villagers, Singh caused a commotion in his inebriated state, as per Gajoth Panchayat Devinder Kotwal, the village head.

“The accused teacher had a few more bottles of alcohol in his possession,” said village head. “He has repeated this behavior in the past and has been warned by the education department. It is essential to deal with this alcoholic teacher strictly to ensure the safety of the students,” Kotwal added. The Additional Deputy Commissioner of Bhaderwah, Dilmir Chowdhary, commented that carrying liquor to the workplace and being inebriated is not an ideal behaviour for a government official, especially a teacher. After receiving a written complaint from the villagers, the police have taken note of the situation.

ASP Bhadarwah Kameshwar Puri has confirmed that a complaint has been registered regarding the incident and action will be taken in accordance with the law. Meanwhile, Additional Deputy Commissioner Chowdhary has stated that if the individual in the social media video is indeed a teacher, they will be subjected to a thorough investigation and will face severe consequences.
