TDP chief urges people to ‘save Andhra Pradesh’

    [ad_1]

Amaravati: TDP President and former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Wednesday gave a call to the people to join the fight to save the state from the “atrocities” and “destructive rule” of the YSRCP.

In an open letter to the people of the state, he said that the “atrocities” of the ruling YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) are increasing by the day and “the dictatorial attitude” of Chief Minister, Jagan Mohan Reddy, is causing a major setback to the democracy.

“The state government is resorting to violent activities, filing false cases and indecent attacks on the leaders of opposition for questioning the anti-democratic tendencies of the ruling dispensation,” he said.

The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) chief said that the destruction at Gannavaram is the latest and classic example of this. He alleged that the TDP leaders were subjected to severe torture at Gannavaram and their properties were completely destroyed. The affected TDP leaders are projected as the prime accused and were sent to jail, he said and stated that he is writing this open letter only to bring the facts to the notice of the public.

Expressing great concern that there is no security for the properties of the common man in this dictatorial rule, Chandrababu Naidu said that the properties of the poor which they have acquired after struggling for the whole life are now being illegally occupied by the ruling party leaders.

Atrocities against women are on the rise and the state has now become a platform for harassment of the downtrodden and backward classes, he alleged, adding that a doctor who asked for masks during the Covid time was done to death while a Dalit youth who raised certain questions on the liquor policy of the state was mercilessly killed.

He felt that the Gannavaram violence is only aimed at suppressing the voice of the downtrodden sections who are questioning the failures of the state government. The local YSRCP leaders with the cooperation from some police officials created total destruction on February 20 and attacked the TDP office. This is a well-planned and perfectly pre-designed scheme as the YSRCP activists attacked the TDP leaders under the direct supervision of the local police officials, he observed.

False cases were registered against at least 40 TDP leaders and some of them were subjected to torture in the police station, he said in the open letter. Even some women activists too were subjected to various kinds of torture in the custody.

The TDP leaders were sent to jail by registering cases under various Acts, including attempt to murder and Atrocities Act, he said.

The TDP supremo said that the fight is now between democracy and dictatorship and called upon the people to join him to save the State from this destruction. “It is ultimately the people who will be the victims if they do not come forward to save the state and the future generations,” Chandrababu Naidu concluded.

Vijayawada: A court in Andhra Pradesh’s Gannavaram on Tuesday sent Telugu Desam Party (TDP) national spokesperson Kommareddy Pattabhiram and 13 other leaders to judicial custody for 14 days in a case of alleged attempt to murder.

Pattabhiram, Dontu Chinna, Gurumurthy and others, arrested by police at Gannavaram on Monday, were produced before a junior civil judge court.

Pattabhiram complained to the judge that he was beaten up by three masked men in Thotlavalluru police station. He alleged that third degree methods were used against him at the police station.

After hearing both sides, the judge sent the accused to judicial custody. He also issued orders for a medical examination of Pattabhiram.

The TDP leaders were booked for attempt to murder and under Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act on a complaint by Gannavaram Circle Inspector Kanaka Rao. The police official alleged that by provoking TDP workers, the accused tried to endanger his life.

The arrests were made when TDP leaders had gone to TDP office at Gannavaram after it was attacked by supporters of local MLA Vallabhaneni Vamsi of ruling YSR Congress Party (YSRCP).

The attackers had set ablaze a car in the office premises and ransacked furniture.

The TDP has condemned the attack and the arrest of its leaders. The opposition party said that instead of taking action against the guilty, police have arrested its leaders who had gone to the office after learning about the attack.

Earlier, Pattabhiram’s wife Chandana had threatened to sit on an indefinite hunger strike in front of the Director General of Police’s office to demand information about his whereabouts.

Several TDP leaders were placed under house arrest in the morning as the party had given a call for ‘Chalo Gannavaram’ to protest the attack on its office.

TDP leader Lokesh promises to establish Islamic bank in Andhra

    [ad_1]

Tirupati: TDP national General Secretary Nara Lokesh on Tuesday promised to establish an Islamic bank once the party forms the government in Andhra Pradesh again.

After a two-day pause, Lokesh began his pada yatra ‘Yuva Galam’ and interacted with the representatives of the Muslim community at Sri Kalahasthi of Tirupati district.

“I am promising you that once the TDP forms the government again this Islamic bank will be established,” he said, noting how Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, during his padyatra, had promised to set up Islamic bank but he did not keep his word.

Lokesh recalled the formation of the Minorities Corporation by N. T. Rama Rao, the founder of the TDP. “Despite the change in the government for the past several years, the corporation continued but after Mr Jagan Mohan Reddy became the Chief Minister, he discontinued it,” he said.

He assured the minority community that the corporation would be revived once his TDP is back in power.

He alleged that Jagan Mohan Reddy discontinued all the welfare schemes launched by Chandrababu Naidu during the TDP regime and promised to revive all the schemes.

As the ‘Yuva Galam’ completed 300 km at Thondamanupuram panchayat in Srikalahasti Assembly segment, Lokesh assured the villagers to provide safe drinking water within 100 days of coming back to power.

Later, at Thindamanadu village, he said that the cheap liquor is now working as pesticide and the farmers instead of the pesticides can use the cheap liquor. He also interacted with women who came to collect their gas cylinders. He said that the subsidy on gas cylinders is not being paid to the consumers.

He also promised to do justice to communities like Gandla, Telikula and Deva Telikula once the TDP is back into the government.

During his padyatra, Lokesh met the groundnut farmers who narrated their problems to him. Farmer, Venkat Reddy, said that for the past three years they have been incurring heavy losses in agriculture and the state government is not coming to their rescue.

Another farmer told Lokesh that due to spurious seeds and fertilisers, the farming community in the district has been facing several problems. They also said that there is no MSP for the farm products due to which they are incurring huge losses in agriculture.

Vijayawada: Telugu Desam Party (TDP) national spokesperson Kommareddy Pattabhiram’s wife, Chandana, on Tuesday threatened to sit on an indefinite hunger strike in front of the Director General of Police’s office demanding information about his whereabouts.

She told reporters that Pattabhiram disappeared when he went to the TDP office at Gannavaram near Vijayawada on Monday evening after it was attacked by the supporters of YSR Congress Party MLA Vallabhaneni Vamsi.

She said Pattabhi’s car was also found damaged on the road.

“We don’t know whether he was arrested by police or kidnapped by YSRCP goons. We have not received any information since last night,” she said.

Chandana reiterated that if anything happens to her husband, Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy and the DGP will be held responsible.

“The car driver and the personal assistant (PA) of my husband are at the local police station, but my husband is missing. I have absolutely no knowledge where the police have shifted him,” Chandana said.

Pointing out that even his phone is switched off, she said that if anything happens to him both the Chief Minister and the DGP will be responsible.

Supporters of MLA Vamsi had attacked the TDP office at Gannavaram on Monday evening. They set afire a vehicle in the premises and ransacked the office.

They were angry over some remarks made by TDP leaders against their leader.

The TDP leaders say they had only found fault with Vamsi for making personal remarks against TDP president Chandrababu Naidu and his son Nara Lokesh.

Amaravati: Exuding confidence that Telugu Desam Party (TDP) will form the government again in Andhra Pradesh, party’s national General Secretary, Nara Lokesh, on Sunday promised that it will bring down the prices of diesel and petrol.

Lokesh, who was on his padayatra ‘Yuva Galam’, interacted with an autorickshaw driver in Gangadhara Nellore Assembly segment. When the TDP leader enquired about the diesel price, the auto driver replied that it is Rs 95.39 per litre. “How come you are getting it for a lesser price,” Lokesh asked and the driver informed him that he fills the fuel in Tamil Nadu as he lives in the border area.

“It is certain that the TDP is going to come to power again and the taxes on fuel will be reduced to control the prices and there will be no need for you to cross the state border to fill uel to your vehicle,” Lokesh told him.

Later, at Eedigapalle, the Gouda community representatives met Lokesh and submitted a memorandum to him explaining the problems they were facing. Responding to them, Lokesh promised all the steps to resolve their issues once the TDP is back in power and his party is committed to the welfare of the toddy-tapper community.

He also promised to take measures for construction of roads and also extend financial assistance and subsidies to them through the BC Welfare Corporation. “Our sole aim is this psycho should go and cycle should come back,” Lokesh said.

“My mike may be grabbed from me but my voice can not be choked. The people are my strength. I always raise my voice against this atrocious rule,” he said while addressing people at KM Puram of Karvetinagaram.

Pointing out that several leaders undertook padyatras earlier in the State, Lokesh asked why problems were being created only for him when he began his venture. “My campaign vehicle and sound system have been seized while my mike was grabbed from me by the police. But the police can not choke my voice and I will raise my tone even if there is no mike,” he said.

Chittoor: The local police is alleged to have created obstructions to the ongoing pada yatra ‘Yuva Galam’ of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) national general secretary, Nara Lokesh, at Samsireddy Palle on Thursday.

The police attacked and grabbed the mike from a TDP activist, Bhasha, who sustained injuries in the meet.

  • TDP leader’s daughter gets assistance from Jagan government for study abroad

TDP leader’s daughter gets assistance from Jagan government for study abroad

    [ad_1]

Amaravati: Daughter of a leader belonging to opposition TDP in Andhra Pradesh will receive financial assistance of Rs 84 lakh from the state government to realise her dream of pursuing higher education in the US.

Sailaja, daughter of Bodrothu Srinivasa Rao, a former sarpanch hailing from Sangam village in Vizianagaram district, is one of the beneficiaries under Jagananna Videshi Vidya Deevena, under which the government provides financial assistance to those who want to study abroad.

She is one among the 213 students who have been selected as beneficiaries of the scheme. A few days ago Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy released the first installment of financial assistance under the scheme.

According to the TDP leader, his daughter Sailaja went to the US to pursue higher studies and to make ends meet, he had to take a huge loan, whose repayment was his biggest cause of worry. However, thanks to Chief Minister Jagan Reddy’s revolutionary schemes in the field of education, Srinivasa Rao’s daughter is all set to receive financial aid of over Rs 84 lakh over the next two years under the Jagananna Videshi Vidya Devana scheme.

Financial aid worth Rs 13,99,154 has been offered as the first instalment and a total of Rs 84 lakh financial help will be granted over the next two years, officials said.

“My daughter studied at IIT in Hyderabad and went to the US. We took a loan for her education and were worried if we would ever be able to repay it. But today, my daughter got assistance via Jagananna Videshi Vidya Deevena Scheme. We will always be indebted to Jagananna. He is a revolutionary leader and for him welfare of the people is his only priority. Now, I want my daughter to complete her studies and return to Andhra Pradesh and contribute towards the state’s development,” said Srinivasa Rao.

Sailaja, who is currently pursuing her Masters from the University of Washington in Seattle, expressed her gratitude to the Chief Minister. “Jagan garu, it is only because of you that students are able to pursue a privileged Masters degree like this. Thank you so much for this opportunity. This is among the top 100 universities of the world. I am really happy to be here,” she said.

Under the Videshi Vidya Deevena scheme, the state government fully reimburses tuition fees to SC, ST, BC and minority students up to Rs 1.25 crore and up to Rs 1 crore to EBC students who have secured ranks in top 100 Universities.

Similarly, 100 per cent tuition fee reimbursement would be made up to Rs 75 lakh to SC, ST, BC and minority students and up to Rs 50 lakh or 50 per cent of the tuition fee, whichever is less, for EBC students who secured admissions in the Universities ranked 100 to 200 as per the QS World University rankings.

The financial assistance comes in the form of reimbursement for aspects like airfare and visa fee. Following the students’ receipt of their immigration cards (I-94), the first payment will be made; the second, following the results of the first semester; and the third, following the completion of the second and third semesters. The criteria is that the candidate’s annual family income should not exceed Rs 8 lakh.

TDP leader Lokesh embarks on 4,000 km-long padyatra

    [ad_1]

Kuppam: Telugu Desam Party (TDP) general secretary Nara Lokesh on Friday embarked on a 4,000 km-long state-wide padyatra, which is expected to gear up the opposition party for next year’s Assembly elections.

The young leader began the foot march from Kuppam constituency represented by party president and his father N. Chandrababu Naidu, to a massive public response and amid enthusiasm by party cadres.

Thousands of TDP workers and supporters joined Lokesh in the padyatra titled ‘Yuva Galam’ (youth’s voice).

The walkathon will cover 120 Assembly constituencies over the next 400 days across the state.

Lokesh launched the padyatra at 11.03 a.m. after special pooja Varadaraja Swamy temple. He also visited Mecca Masjid at Lakshmipuram and later Hebrass House of Worship Church at Bapunagar where he offered prayers and took the blessings of the community elders.

Lokesh’s father-in-law, popular actor and TDP MLA N. Balakrishna and cousin actor Nandamuri Taraka Ratna also participated in the pooja. Later, when the padyatra reached a mosque, Taraka Ratna fell down and fainted due to a stampede-like situation.

The actor was shifted to a private hospital. Balakrishna also rushed to the hospital.

The president of the state unit of the TDP, Atchen Naidu, party politburo members, and thousands of party cadres walked along Lokesh.

The main opposition party said that the sole aim of the padyatra is to end the “atrocious” rule of Chief Minister Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy. It is confident that the march will create a history in the state.

The party functionaries showered flowers on Lokesh wishing him all the best in his endeavour.

Women activists offered ‘aartis’ to give a grand welcome to the party general secretary, and the locals of Kuppam raised slogans like ‘Chandranna Bidda (Son of Mr Chandrababu Naidu) zindabad’.

The TDP leader will address a public meeting later in the day. Police have made elaborate security arrangements for the walkathon.

Chittoor district police has granted conditional permission for the march. The TDP said that the conditions imposed for Lokesh’s padyatra reflect Jagan Mohan Reddy-led government’s sense of insecurity.

The TDP leaders alleged that the government is trying to create hurdles for the padyatra.

  • DGP’s queries on padayatra by Lokesh unwanted, says TDP

DGP’s queries on padayatra by Lokesh unwanted, says TDP

    [ad_1]

Amaravati: Andhra Pradesh’s opposition Telugu Desam Party (TDP) on Sunday reacted strongly to Director General of Police (DGP) K.V. Rajendranath Reddy seeking details of party leader Nara Lokesh’s padayatra.

TDP politburo member, Varla Ramaiah said that the DGP has raised several unwanted and undesirable queries on padayatra by the party general secretary.

Lokesh, son of TDP president N. Chandrababu Naidu, proposed to launch a 4,000 km long padayatra from Kuppam on January 27.

Though Varla Ramaiah has written to the DGP seeking permission for the foot march, the police have still not accorded the permission. The DGP on Saturday wrote a letter to Ramaiah seeking a route map, details of people and vehicles in the yatra.

Strongly responding to the DGP’s missive, Varla Ramaiah has made it clear that this is not for the first time in the history of the nation that a leader is undertaking a padayatra. “The former prime minister, Mr Chandra Sekhar, the former chief ministers of the State, the Late NTR and the Late YS Rajasekhara Reddy, the former chief minister, Mr Nara Chandrababu Naidu, and those who fought for Independence like the Mahatma Gandhi also went on padayatra,” he pointed out.

Varla Ramaiah also mentioned in his letter the recent Bharat Jodo yatra by the AICC leader, Rahul Gandhi and the padayatra by Sharmila, the sister of Chief Minister, Jagan Mohan Reddy.

The TDP leader requested the DGP to take measures to provide proper security for the ‘Yuva Galam’, to be undertaken by Nara Lokesh, from January 27.

The TDP politburo member said that Lokesh, through his padayatra, intends to bring awareness among the public on various issues plaguing the state like lack of employment opportunities, poor welfare and development in the state.

Stating that the Yuva Galam is tentatively planned to begin on January 27 from Kuppam to Itchapuram covering around 125 Assembly segments spread over 4000 km, Varla Ramaiah said that the detailed schedule of the padayatra will be provided to the local sub-divisional police officers (SDPOs) ahead of the schedule to enable the local police to provide necessary security arrangements.

“In a democracy, it is quite natural that the political parties meet the public through various means to move closer to the people to address their grievances and the padayatra is only one such mechanism. The number of people taking part in the padayatra depends on the local issues and it is the duty of the local police to estimate and assess as to how many people will be taking part in the programme,” Varla Ramaiah said in his letter.

He also made it clear in his letter that the detailed schedule, including the night halts will be intimated to the local police and stated that some vehicles like prachara ratham, two sound vehicles, four vehicles in Lokesh convoy and a media van will form part of the vehicles accompanying him.
