After Three Year Hiatus, Taraweeh Prayers Return To Jamia Masjid On Shab E Qadr

SRINAGAR: The holy month of Ramadan is one of the most significant periods for Muslims worldwide, and it is celebrated with great fervour in Jammu & Kashmir as well. The month of Ramadan is observed by Muslims as a time for self-reflection, spiritual growth, and increased devotion to Allah. The highlight of this month is the Shab-e-Qadr or the Night of Power, which is considered one of the holiest nights in Islam.
This year, Shab-e-Qadr was celebrated with great enthusiasm and devotion throughout Jammu & Kashmir. After a gap of three years, the Isha and Taraweeh prayers were held in the historic Jama Masjid Srinagar, the spiritual hub of Kashmiri Muslims. A large number of people from across the valley gathered at the grand mosque to seek forgiveness from Allah on this Night of Power.
The Jama Masjid Srinagar is a significant religious landmark in Jammu & Kashmir and has been the center of Islamic teachings and spirituality for centuries. The mosque has played a vital role in shaping the religious and cultural identity of the people of the valley.
However, this year’s celebrations were marred by the absence of Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir Dr Moulvi Muhammad Umar Farooq, the head of Anjuman Auqaf Jama Masjid. Dr Farooq has been under detention for nearly four years, and as per the statement issued by Anjuman, he could not lead the collective prayer or deliver the sermon on the Night of Power.
The Anjuman expressed its disappointment at Dr Farooq’s continued detention and called for his unconditional release on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr. The Anjuman also expressed hope that the authorities would consider the importance of Dr Farooq’s role in the religious and spiritual life of the people of Jammu & Kashmir.

Video: Cat climbs on Imam during Taraweeh prayers

In a heartwarming incident that has taken the internet by storm, a cat was captured on video climbing onto an imam during Taraweeh prayers, a special form of prayers offered during the holy month of Ramzan.
In the video, the cat can be seen jumping onto the imam’s shoulder, almost licking him as it tries to find a comfortable spot. However, instead of being perturbed by the animal’s presence, the imam acknowledges it with a gentle pet, while the worshippers maintain their concentration and continue their prayers, with their eyes closed.
After the incident that took place in a mosque in Bordj Bou Arreridf, Algeria, in North Africa, video went viral on social media, with millions of views within a few hours.

Video: Muslims perform Taraweeh prayers at New York Times Square

For the second time in the history of the United States (US), hundreds of Muslims observing Ramzan broke their fast and offered Taraweeh prayers in New York City’s Times Square.
Taraweeh is part of the holy Quran that is recited every day during the month of Ramzan until its completion.
On Saturday night, March 25, the event was organised by Muslim social media influencer SQ, in collaboration with Muslims Giving Back and Droplets of Mercy.
At sunset, Quran reciters Faisal Latif and Faraj Hassan led prayers and people started breaking their fast with free iftar meals.
2,000 iftar meals were served to Muslims on the sidewalks of Times Square, the city’s busiest artery, then followed by hundreds of Muslims participating in Taraweeh prayers.
As per media reports, the aim of the event was to help non-Muslim New Yorkers learn how to celebrate Ramzan.
A projector also displayed verses from the holy Quran as they were recited, along with English translations.

One of the organizers of the gathering, SQ shared a video on Instagram and wrote, “This Deen is HAQQ & I will never stops until Islam enters every home.”

“Taraweeh in Time Square is just the beginnning In Sha Allah, Jazzahkum Allahkhyr to EVERYONE who pulled up in the POOREST of weather conditions. Allah seen your hearts & chose you for this alhamdulillah. I know you all had a blast,” SQ added.
One of the social media blogger name Faduma took to Instagram and wrote, “Witnessed prayer in Time Square and to be frank many non-Muslims were in awe. Just standing and listening to the eords of Allah. Seen many smiles Alhamdulillah. Islam is a faith of unity and peace and proud to be part of the billions that share the same faith.”
At the end of the night, two people took the shahada and converted to Islam after hearing the recitation of the Quran.
For the first time in US history in 2022, Muslims perform Taraweeh prayers at New York Times Square.
Times Square is one of the largest commercial intersections, for tourists to enjoy their entertainment venues located in Manhattan, New York.

UP: Hindutva men object to Muslims praying Taraweeh at home; file complaint

Right-wing organisation Rashtriya Bajrang Dal objected to the offering of Taraweeh prayers by a group of Muslim men in the Moradabad district of Uttar Pradesh.
The incident happened on Saturday night when a group of Rashtriya Bajrang Dal led by its state president Rohan Saxena barged into the godown of a Muslim man named Zakir Hussain in Lajpat Nagar in Katghar police station area.

The right-wing men created a ruckus after which police had to be called to pacify the situation.
Later while speaking to reporters, Saxena said that they will not allow new paramparas (traditions) to brew in the city.
“We got information that Zakir is creating a new tradition by conducting prayers with his Muslim brothers. We vehemently oppose this and further will not allow any such tradition to spring up in our city or the state,” Saxena told reporters.
“We have repeatedly asked the police to lodge FIRs against violent people (referring to the Muslim community),” Saxena said.
When asked how did his organisation come to know about the incident, he said, “We received information from their neighbours. We also have images as proofs. We will not stand this.”
“We have asked the police officials to lodge a complaint against them. And if they fail to do so, the Rashtriya Bajrang Dal will come to the streets to protest against it,” Saxena said.

Siasat.com spoke to the SHO of Katghar police station under whose jurisdiction the incident happened.
The official said that Taraweeh was been offered by a group of Muslim men. “We have asked them to offer Taraweeh in mosques. The situation is under control,” he said.
Asked if any FIR was lodged, the official replied negatively and further declined to comment.
What is Taraweeh
Taraweeh meaning rest or relaxation is a voluntary prayer performed after the evening prayer, Isha, every single night during the month of Ramzan. As it is a highly recommended Sunnah, mosques across the world hold congregational Taraweeh prayers for men and women every night of the month.
In Ramzan, Muslims fast for a period of 29 or 30 days, and the month is marked by Eid-al-Fitr.

Hyderabad: Worshippers in Hyderabad welcomed the holy month of Ramzan by offering the first Taraweeh prayers on Thursday night. The historic Makkah Masjid in Hyderabad was beautifully illuminated, and a huge number of worshippers were seen offering prayers. Taraweeh prayers were conducted under the imamath of Maulana Rizwan Qureshi.
Apart from Makkah Masjid, Taraweeh was also offered at various other mosques in Hyderabad.

Ramzan is a significant month in the Islamic calendar, and Muslims worldwide observe it with great devotion. During the holy month, Muslims fast daily from dawn to dusk and offer prayers, including Taraweeh.
The Islamic month of Ramzan lasts for 29 or 30 days, depending on the sighting of the crescent moon. As per astronomical calculations, this year, the holy month will last for 29 days. However, it can only be confirmed after the sighting of the crescent moon.

Status of engaging Haafiz-e-Quran Imams, other Imams, & Special Khateebs for convenience of devotees was also reviewed. Status of Sanitation, Cleanliness, minor & major repair works at Shrines, Khanqahs, & Mosques was also reviewed.
In a significant development, & for the first time, Tarawee Prayers are being telecasted live through some Pvt News Channels & Official Facebook Page “J&K WAQF BOARD” from Aasari Shareef Hazratbal Srinagar. Also, directions were issued by the Chairperson J&K Waqf Board for mobilisation of donations during the holy month of Ramadhan specially for the destitutes & poor. A separate account shall be created for it, & funds shall be distributed immediately towards the close of the holy month. The beneficiaries shall be recommended by the Imams, Muallims & the local respectable people among the general public.
