Moradabad: A young woman was brutally murdered by her husband who suspected that she was planning to kill him.

The 35-year-old accused, Nanhe Khan, a mason, repeatedly stabbed her in the neck with a sharp knife and later dumped the body in a septic tank.

The incident, which took place in the Civil Lines area of Moradabad, came to light when the neighbours saw Nanhe leaving home at midnight in blood-stained clothes and informed the police.

SSP Hemraj Meena said, “We have arrested the accused and booked him for murder. He is being interrogated.”

The body has been recovered from the septic tank and sent for post mortem.

The accused had divorced his first wife, Nazneen, and married the victim, Reshma, in 2021.

Hyderabad: Mir Alam Tank musical fountain worth Rs 2.5 cr lies ignored

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: Musical fountain at the Mir Alam Tank, developed at the cost of Rs 2.55 crores has nearly submerged in the stinky water while it remains completely ignored by the development authorities of the state.

The 40-metre-long and 9-metre-wide fountain structure was set up on the very facet of the Mir Alam Lake, between Tadban to Aramghar roads.

Equipped with music and multimedia effects, the fountain was launched by the Telangana municipal administration and urban development minister KT Rama Rao, in the presence of AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi and home minister Mahmood Ali on April 19, 2022.

    MS Education Academy

However, the fountain worked for no more than two days and had since remained nonfunctional with overgrown bushes drowning the project into a costly dismay.

Developed by the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) and Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), the fountain was inaugurated to fascinate its viewers but the set-up ended up submerged into the water, hidden by water hyacinth with only steel poles set to fence the area left behind as its remains.

Speaking to The Siasat Daily, Ramanthapur corporator Yousuf Danish points out the fact that the fountain never was lit up more than two days post-inauguration.

Pointing to the encroachments around the tank, Yousuf says that no measures have been taken by the state government to safeguard its investment.

Back then, authorities laid a separate drainage line to divert the sewerage water from the colonies of Hassannagar and surroundings into Musi. However, it seems like the pollution control measure haven’t worked out.

Though the Telangana government have taken up the task of beautification around the lake, maintenance with regular checks is essential.

Russia deploying newest tank in Ukraine battlefield

    [ad_1]

Moscow: Amid talk of a Ukrainian counter-offensive doing rounds, Russia has introduced its most advanced T-14 ‘Armata’ main battle tank to the battlefield after fitting it with additional protection, media reports said on Tuesday.

“The Russian forces have begun to use the newest Armata tanks to fire at Ukrainian positions but they haven’t participated in direct assault actions yet,” a source told RIA Novosti news agency, RT reported.

According to the source, the T-14s were fitted with additional protection from anti-tank munitions and tank crews have been training in one of “newly-incorporated” Donbass republics since 2022.

    MS Education Academy

In February, a video was posted on social media that purportedly showed a T-14 firing its 125mm gun “in the zone of the special military operation([in Ukraine)”.

RT also reported Konstantin Sivkov, the Vice-President of the Russian Academy of Rocket and Artillery Sciences, telling news website URA.ru on Tuesday that the T-14 will be primarily pitted against the British Challenger 2 and German-made Leopard 2A6 models that were pledged to Kiev by NATO countries.

“The Armata surpasses both of these newest Western tanks in terms of technical characteristics,” he asserted. He added that the T-14 can operate as “a command (centre)” in a group of Russian T-90M tanks.

The T-14 was unveiled to the public in 2015 and first saw combat in Syria, where Russian forces are supporting President Bashar Assad’s fight against Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS) and other Islamist militants.

Human waste in water tank case: DNA test of 11 people today

    [ad_1]

Chennai: DNA samples of 11 people will be collected on Tuesday in connection with the Vengavayil case in which human feces were found dumped in a water tank that supplies drinking water to a Dalit colony.

According to sources, the DNA samples, including that of policemen, are to be collected at Pudukkottai Government Medical College.

The move follows a directive from a Pudukkottai special court. The court has also directed the presence of an Assistant professor of Pudukottai Government Medical College when samples are taken.

The shocking incident of human excreta found in an overhead water tank that supplies drinking water to a Dalit colony in Vengavayil in Pudukottai district had hit national headlines.

Presence of human waste was detected after a test was conducted in the drinking water since many people in the colony fell ill. The incident occurred in December and after initial investigations by the local police, the Crime Branch CID is now investigating the case.

Several Dalit outfits, including the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK), have been insisting on transferring the case to the CBI.

The DNA test is being conducted to identify the people whose feces were found in the overhead water tank.

Faeces in TN village water tank: Special court orders DNA tests on 11 persons

    [ad_1]

Chennai: The Special Court for Exclusive Trial of Cases registered under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act in Pudukkottai, Tamil Nadu, has ordered that blood samples of eleven persons be collected in connection with the probe into mixing of human faeces in an overhead water tank providing drinking water to a Dalit colony in Vengaivayal village.

The special court had issued the order on Tuesday after a requisition was filed by the Deputy Superintendent of Police, Crime Branch CID of Tiruchi Range, who is investigating the case.

The court directed that an assistant professor from the Government Medical College and Hospital, Pudukottai, collect the blood samples on FTA cards or chemically-treated filter paper.

The 11 persons, whose DNA is to be analysed, include three women, and are residents of Vengaivayal, Eraiyur and Keezhamuthukadu villages. The samples will be compared to the faecal matter that had been collected from the overhead water tank by the CB-CID.

Sources in the CB-CID said a date would now be finalised for collecting the blood samples by the assistant professor. The DNA tests of the 11 persons are likely to be conducted in Chennai, they confided.

First reported in December 2023, the Vengaivayal incident was initially probed by the district police. However, in January this year, the Tamil Nadu DGP transferred the case to the CB-CID.

  • Lok Sabha functioned for 45 hours, Rajya Sabha 31 hours: Think tank on Budget Session

Lok Sabha functioned for 45 hours, Rajya Sabha 31 hours: Think tank on Budget Session

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: The Lok Sabha this Budget Session could function for only 45 hours as against its scheduled 133.6 hours because of daily disruptions and frequent adjournments, a think tank data has shown.

The Rajya Sabha worked for over 31 hours out of 130 hours in the same session, the data said.

The second half of the Budget Session was hamstrung by frequent disruptions throughout before it was adjourned sine die on Thursday.

    MS Education Academy

As the 17th Lok Sabha enters the final year of its term, the think tank said that the average number of sittings of this Lok Sabha, which is 58 days a year, could make it the shortest full term Lok Sabha since 1952.

The Budget session of Parliament was held from January 31, 2023 to April 6, 2023, with a recess from February 14 to March 12.

According to data compiled by PRS Legislative Research, the productivity, which is the percentage of time the House functioned, was 34.38 percent for the Lower House in the Budget Session.

The only time the Lok Sabha’s productivity was lower was in the Monsoon Session of 2021, when it functioned only 20.93 per cent of the scheduled time.

The Rajya Sabha meanwhile recorded its lowest productivity since 2019, functioning only around 24 percent of its scheduled time. In the Monsoon Session of 2021, its productivity was around 28 percent.

The just-concluded session saw limited legislative activity, and minimal discussion on the budget amid continuous disruptions.

Legislative Business took less than an hour in the Lok Sabha, while in Rajya Sabha it took only around two minutes. Financial Business took 17.25 hours in Lok Sabha and 18.23 hours in Rajya Sabha.

Both Houses witnessed repeated adjournments of the Question Hour throughout the Session.

The Lok Sabha could take questions for 4.32 hours while the figure for Rajya Sabha was worse at 1.85 hours for the entire Budget Session.

In his concluding remarks, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla said the House held discussions on the General Budget for 14.45 hours, and 145 MPs participated in it. Discussions on the Motion of Thanks to the President’s Address were held for 13.44 hours with participation of 143 MPs.

In the Lok Sabha, eight government bills were introduced, six were passed, and 29 questions were answered orally, Birla said.

Excluding the Finance and Appropriation Bills, The Competition (Amendment) Bill, 2022 was the only Bill passed during this session. Both bills were passed without any discussion by either House.

Three bills were introduced, one of which, the Forest (Conservation) Amendment Bill, 2023, was referred to a Joint Parliamentary Committee.

In both houses, productivity was higher in the first half of the Budget Session.

In Lok Sabha, the productivity of the first part was 83.80 percent, which dropped to 5.29 percent in the second half.

Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar meanwhile informed the House that its productivity in the first part of the Budget Session was 56.3 per cent, which plummeted to an abysmal 6.4 per cent. According to PRS, the Parliament has functioned for 230 sitting days so far.

Of all the Lok Sabhas that completed the full five-year term, the 16th Lok Sabha elected in 2014 recorded the lowest number of sitting days, having sat for 331 days in five years.

With one more year remaining in the term, and 58 average sitting days a year, the 17th Lok Sabha is unlikely to sit for more than 331 days. This could make it the shortest full term Lok Sabha since 1952.

This has been the sixth shortest budget session since 1952.

  • Russian advance stalls in Ukraine’s Bakhmut, think tank says

Russian advance stalls in Ukraine’s Bakhmut, think tank says

    [ad_1]

    aptopix russia ukraine war 73695

The ISW’s report comes following claims of Russian progress earlier this week. The U.K. Defense Ministry said Saturday that paramilitary units from the Kremlin-controlled Wagner Group had seized most of eastern Bakhmut, with a river flowing through the city now marking the front line of the fighting. The assessment highlighted that Russia’s assault will be difficult to sustain without more significant personnel losses.

The mining city of Bakhmut is located in Ukraine’s eastern Donetsk province, one of four regions of Ukraine that Russian President Vladimir Putin illegally annexed last year. Russia’s military opened the campaign to take control of Bakhmut in August, and both sides have experienced staggering casualties. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has vowed not to retreat.

In its latest report Sunday, the U.K. Defense Ministry said Sunday that the impact of the heavy casualties Russia is continuing to suffer in Ukraine varies dramatically across the country. The ministry’s intelligence update said that the major cities of Moscow and St. Petersburg remain “relatively unscathed,” particularly among members of Russia’s elite. In contrast, in many of Russia’s eastern regions, the death rate as a percentage of the population is “30-40 times higher than in Moscow.”

The report highlighted that ethnic minorities often take the biggest hit. In the southern Astrakhan region, for example, about “75% of casualties come from the minority Kazakh and Tartar populations.”

Russia’s mounting casualties are reflected in a loss of government control over the country’s information sphere, ISW said. The think tank said that Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova confirmed “infighting in the Kremlin inner circle” and that the Kremlin has effectively ceded control over the country’s information space, with Putin unable to readily regain control.

The ISW sees Zakharova’s comments, made at a forum on the “practical and technological aspects of information and cognitive warfare in modern realities” in Moscow, as “noteworthy” and in line with the think tank’s long standing assessments about the “deteriorating Kremlin regime and information space control dynamics.”

Elsewhere in Ukraine, Russian attacks over the previous day killed at least five people and wounded another seven across Ukraine’s Donetsk and Kherson regions, local Ukrainian authorities reported on Sunday morning.

Donetsk Gov. Pavlo Kyrylenko said that two people were killed in the region, one in the city of Kostyantynivka and one in the village of Tonenke. Four further civilians were wounded.

Local officials in the southern Kherson province confirmed that Russian forces fired 29 times on Ukrainian-controlled territory in the region on Saturday, with residential areas of the regional capital, Kherson, coming under fire three times. Three people died in the province and a further three were wounded.

In Ukraine’s northeastern Kharkiv province, the Kharkiv, Chuhuiv and Kupiansk districts came under fire, but no civilian casualties were reported.

The head of Ukraine’s southern Mykolaiv province Gov. Vitali Kim said Sunday morning that the town of Ochakiv, set at the mouth of the Dnieper River, came under artillery fire in the early hours of Sunday. Cars were set ablaze, while private houses and high-rise buildings sustained damage. No casualties were reported.

    [ad_1]

Chennai: In a shocking incident, the carcass of a dog was found in an overhead water tank that supplies drinking water to a colony in Pudukottai in Virudhunagar district of Tamil Nadu.

A few days back, human excreta was found in an overhead water tank that supplies drinking water to a Dalit colony in Vengaivayal in Pudukottai district. The issue had created a major uproar with Dalit parties calling for demolishing the water tank and transferring the case to the CBI.

According to sources in Virudhunagar district, the operator of the water tank in which the carcass of a dog was found was about to clean the tank on Monday when he noticed a foul smell. The operator found the carcass of a dog in the water tank, which was rotten.

The operator immediately reported the matter to the police who informed the district authorities. The officials then inspected the tank and sent the caracass for post-mortem.

Police sources told IANS that the someone might have killed the dog and put in the water tank.

Tamil Nadu is turning into a hub of caste-related violence and the deposit of human excreta and dog carcass in drinking water tanks are incidents of settling scores in caste-related issues.
