Congress takes credit for pushing CBI to probe BRS’ Kavitha

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: The Congress Party on Saturday took the credit for ‘pushing’ the Central Bureau of Investigation to probe BRS MLC Kavitha’s house by raising concerns about the Delhi Liquour policy case.

Congress spokesperson Pawan Khera also questioned the sources of funding that the BRS has in order to transition from a regional party to a national party. “Where is the funding for the BRS’s transition from local TRS to national coming from?” Khera questioned.

Khera alleged that the BRS is looting the money of common people and is using that wealth for its growth.

On Kavitha’s hunger strike for the Women’s reservation bill, Khera asked if the MLC ‘suddenly’ remembered the cause after all these years. “Once I got down at Shamshabad, I saw the BRS posters. Only Kavitha’s face is visible as if she is the only woman in the BRS. As an ex-MP, how many times did she speak of Women’s rights in the Parliament?” he asked.

    K. Kavitha on Saturday joined the Enforcement Directorate’s (ED) probe in connection with the Delhi Excise Policy scam case.

She reached the ED office at around 11.05 a.m., and her statement will be recorded under section 50 of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act.

A woman deputy director level official will record her testimony.

Kavitha, the daughter of Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, was summoned to join the probe on Thursday, but she wrote a letter seeking more time after which her questioning was postponed for Saturday.

On Friday, she staged a protest at Jantar Mantar and claimed that she had never met former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, adding that her name was unnecessaryily being dragged into the matter.

According to the ED, Kavitha is also one of the representatives of South Group which allegedly paid a kickback of Rs 100 crore to AAP leaders.

The BRS leader might be confronted with the Hyderabad-based businessman Arun Pillai who was arrested on Friday as the latter is also from the South Group.

“The South Group was represented by Abhishek Boinpally, Arun Pillai and Buchi Babu. Boinpalli facilitated the transfer of Rs 100 crore kickback in connivance and conspiracy with Nair and his associate Dinesh Arora. Now we will have to confront Pillai with Kavitha,” an ED source had said.

Sisodia is currently on ED’s remand.

There are possibilities that Kavitha might be confronted with Sisodia in connection with the alleged kickback.

  • DOJ takes on the Jan. 6 Tucker Carlson tapes

DOJ takes on the Jan. 6 Tucker Carlson tapes

    [ad_1]

The filings are the first effort by the Justice Department to place limits on any potential efforts by Jan. 6 defendants to use the newly disclosed footage to prolong their criminal proceedings. Nichols’ attorney, Joseph McBride, urged U.S. District Court Judge Royce Lamberth to delay his late-March trial in order to give Nichols’ defense team time to review the footage, which McBride said he’s been granted access to by the House.

Prosecutors emphasized that defendants and their lawyers have had access to an enormous trove of evidence for nearly two years — more then 4.9 million files totaling nearly 7.4 terabytes of information. Those files include “over 30,000 files that include body-worn and hand-held camera footage from five law enforcement agencies and surveillance-camera footage from three law enforcement agencies.”

Prosecutors contended that the existence of the additional footage reviewed by Carlson does not necessarily entitle defendants to receive it — particularly without a basis for believing it includes exculpatory content.

“The Government’s discovery obligations in a criminal case are properly limited to materials that are potentially relevant to a defendant’s case in the government’s possession or control, and the government is not obliged to acquire materials possessed or controlled by others,” McCauley wrote, saying a trial should not be delayed “based on speculation about whether and when any such additional, likely irrelevant, information may become available.”

Defense teams have complained that the overwhelming amount of material has been impossible to comb through — even as they demand access to the extensive new trove. It’s become a recurring theme in Jan. 6 cases: Prosecutors have dumped enormous caches of evidence on defense teams, who continuously claim they don’t have the means or capacity to meaningfully review it. The Justice Department noted that it has built tools intended to help defendants and their lawyers pinpoint relevant footage by camera angle and time of day.

The Justice Department also rejected as “premature” the notion that Carlson’s decision to air some of the security footage Monday should lead to the Justice Department making the full cache of security film public. Prosecutors noted that “limited” clips aired by Carlson were nearly all included in the initial troves of footage provided to defense attorneys, which includes nearly all of the footage inside and outside the Capitol from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Jan. 6.

“Nearly all the footage displayed on the program has long been in the government’s production to defense counsel and, in some cases, has also been admitted in public hearings and/or trials and has been available to, released to, and/or published by news media,” the department noted.

Prosecutors also argued that there’s still good reason not to widely release all security footage; “Disclosure of all CCV footage could not only reveal the U.S. Capitol’s internal surveillance system to third parties but could also jeopardize the privacy and security of certain persons depicted on such CCV footage.”

New Delhi: Swiggy’s egg ad billboard for Holi has been taken down after a section of people expressed “outrage” on social media.

The advertisement said, “Omelette – Sunny side-up – Kisi ke sarr par. #BuraMatKhelo. Get Holi essentials on Instamart.”

Though there is no official statement from Swiggy on the matter, a source told PTI, “The billboard ads were only in Delhi-NCR and have been taken down now.”

Soon after the ad was put up, several people tweeted with the hashtag “HinduphobicSwiggy”, urging people to boycott the food and grocery delivery service provider.

All India Sadhu Samaj member and former president of the Kutch Sant Samaj wrote, “Hey @swiggy, it’s not okay to give selective gyan on Hindu festivals. Your Holi reel and Billboard is creating a wrong perception about Holi. You must apologize and take steps to promote cultural inclusivity.”

VHP leader Sadhvi Prachi also objected as she wrote, “Hey Swiggy, why don’t you give similar gyan on Eid/Christmas? Afraid of Sar Tan Se Juda gang? Since you serve diverse communities, it’s important for you to learn to respect all religions. Remove your Holi ads.”

While former president of Gujarat’s Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha, Hardik Bhavsar said, “Immediately Uninstalled”, former BJP MLA from Uttar Pradesh Arun Kumar Yadav wrote, “By promoting controversial billboards and posting reel, #HinduPhobicSwiggy has hurt the sentiments of millions of people. Swiggy must apologize to Hindu community and remove them immediately, or face consequences. Why is their lack of similar Ads during non Hindu festivals?”

Ex-Twitter employee named Haraldur Thorleifsson wrote in his post: “Dear @elonmusk, 9 days ago the access to my work computer was cut, along with about 200 other Twitter employees. However, your head of HR is not able to confirm if I am an employee or not. You’ve not answered my emails. Maybe if enough people retweet you’ll answer me here?”

To which Musk replied: “What work have you been doing?”

Thorleifsson then talked about his job and the specific work he was doing at Twitter.

After a brief discussion, the Twitter boss laughed at him with emojis, indicating that he had been fired.

Moreover, the exit interview has gone viral, with many people finding Musk’s attitude rude and disrespectful.

“Publicly humiliated his ex-employee. The guy had one shot and tried to waffle by saying he saved $500k on FIGMA,” a user wrote.

“I’m sorry to say it doesn’t seem to be an actual question but him mocking you, someone who was just laid off. This makes me so upset I will probably cancel my subscription. I cannot support such a cruel organization. Explain yourself Elon!,” another user commented.
