Oscar Lynagh of Melbourne set a world record by bouncing 12 table tennis balls off a wall and catching them on his shaving cream-covered head in 30 seconds.
The Guinness World Records is a rich mine of some of the oddest world records, some of which make us question why they were ever set in the first place.
Oscar Lynagh of Melbourne set a world record by bouncing 12 table tennis balls off a wall and catching them on his shaving cream-covered head in 30 seconds.
“The most table tennis balls bounced and caught in shaving foam on the head in 30 seconds (individual) is 12 and was achieved by Oscar Lynagh (Australia), in Melbourne, Australia, on November 30, 2022,” according to the record-keeping organisation.
The GWR tweeted a video of the effort with the statement, “New record: Most table tennis balls bounced and caught in shaving foam on the head in 30 seconds (individual) 12 by Oscar Lynagh. Yes, this is a real record you can try at home 🤣”

Hyderabad: A Round table conference on ‘Trade and Investment Opportunities in Vietnam’ was held on Saturday at The Federation of Telangana Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FTCCI), Red Hills, Hyderabad.
Eleven senior officers and executives from four Vietnamese provinces met with the FTCCI officials to discuss the trade and investment opportunities in Vietnam.
Welcoming the Vietnam delegation, Anil Agarwal, president of FTCCI, said the delegation came to participate in BioAsia and used this opportunity to visit FTCCI to explain the opportunities for trade and investment in Vietnam in various provinces.
“We visited Ho Chi Minh City, Dong Nai Province, and Binh Duong Province in Vietnam some time ago last year and learned about the way these provinces are progressing with cluster and industrial development initiatives thereby attracting investments through FDIs. We really appreciate the steps taken by the Vietnam delegation to promote bilateral trade and will always support such initiatives,” said Agarwal.
Bui Anh Tuan, Commerce Section, Consulate General of India in Vietnam introduced the Vietnamese delegates to the gathering. He said they are looking for investments in Tourism, IT, Biotechnology, Health Care, Agriculture, and Food Processing.
Pham Minh An, director of Ba Ria – Vung Tau Department of Health, spoke about the Foreign Direct Investment policy.
Head of the Ministry of External Affairs branch secretariat, Dasari Balaiah addressing the gathering said that every small opportunity can turn into a big one and India being the Chair of G-20 must utilise every possible opportunity.
Look east policy of the Government of India is the flagship initiative of the Government of India, he said.
Emmer’s insistence on being a gentler enforcer of party discipline is certain to be a challenge, given the intra-GOP sparring on display in the early weeks of the new Congress and Republicans’ long list of daunting legislative priorities. Further complicating his task: the two-time former House Republican campaign chief knows the party’s best hope of keeping — or even expanding — its tiny majority involves winning on blue and purple turf.
So after a speaker’s race that saw Kevin McCarthy heeding the conference’s most vocal conservatives to win the job, Emmer is looking to 2024 with a more balanced approach that focuses on getting his colleagues to respect their vast ideological differences.
“We’re not there yet,” he said, “but we took a huge step with that speaker’s race.”
That’s not to say Speaker McCarthy and his leadership team won’t need to occasionally use the iron fist in a majority that’s so tight they can only afford to lose four votes. (Emmer is even planning to meet with one of his party’s most famous disciplinarians, Rep. Tom DeLay, a former GOP whip nicknamed “The Hammer” by his members.)
But the GOP’s strategic detente has mostly paid off so far, powering their conference through the chamber’s first freewheeling floor debate on a bill in seven years, known as considering legislation under an “open rule.” Emmer and his team navigated 57 fast-paced amendment votes on that bill that tackled a slew of contentious energy issues, pitting various regions against each other.
In the end, they fended off nearly all proposed changes. Republicans boasted about how quickly they ticked through votes.
Still, they have far bigger battles ahead. Conservatives are itching to punish President Joe Biden at every turn. Party leaders are confronting Congress’ most volatile debt-limit fight in at least a decade. Then there’s a crop of ambitious rank-and-file members with wildly different visions to move the party forward.
All the while, there’s lingering internal bad blood from McCarthy’s 15-ballot speaker vote — the kind of personality clashes that Emmer, a former youth hockey coach and dad of seven, knows well. As McCarthy’s No. 3, Emmer used his office as home base for McCarthy’s nascent leadership team and most vocal detractors to hash out deals that ultimately won the Californian the gavel.
Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.), who remained among the last McCarthy-for-speaker holdouts, said he respected Emmer’s approach.
“I’ve always found him to be an honest guy. A lot of people who don’t necessarily ideologically align with Tom on every issue respect the fact that he doesn’t lie to people,” Gaetz said.
Gaetz even said he saw Emmer — a fervent McCarthy supporter — as sympathetic to the speaker’s skeptics and instrumental in reaching many of their demands: “I never got the sense that he was lobbying for me to vote for McCarthy.”
Emmer won similar praise from their conference’s moderates, the same group most often at odds with Gaetz and the right flank.
Rep. Don Bacon (R-Neb.), an outspoken centrist from a suburban swing district, said Emmer has won his trust by understanding issues that he and other battleground Republicans cannot bend on.
And he says that’s in large part due to Emmer’s background as the conference’s former campaign chief: “Knowing people’s districts and that we’re not all in R+30 districts — that’s what I value about him.”
“We tend to have a tendency to go, ‘it’s 100 or zero.’ And he has the ability to say it’s really about a 75-25,” Bacon said, describing Emmer’s openness to compromise.
The Minnesotan faced one of his first major tests on that last month, when Democrats used the free-for-all floor debate on the U.S. oil reserve bill to force Republicans into tough votes. Several states’ Republicans, including Florida and those around the Great Lakes, had to swallow opposition to protecting their home state’s water resources.
There was “a lot of moaning and whining,” recalled House Rules Committee Chair Tom Cole (R-Okla.). But Cole said of Emmer: “He and his guys got ‘em all through.”
“A campaign guy knows every member really well, and particularly the members in the vulnerable districts that are most apt to be under pressure,” said Cole, also a former NRCC chief.
Another case of Emmer and party leaders white-knuckling their way to a floor win: the recent expulsion of his fellow Minnesotan, Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar, from the House Foreign Affairs Committee. Emmer, who calls Omar “the face of antisemitism in the Democrat Party,” helped land key votes for McCarthy — though some GOP lawmakers later privately said they’d rather have skipped the exercise altogether.
And Minnesota Democrats took notice of Emmer’s public Omar bashing, warning that the moment would make it tougher to work with him. Some Democrats privately pointed to the Omar votes as proof Emmer is more strident than his outwardly affable persona — a trait perhaps unsurprising in a former NRCC chair. (“I’m just a dumb hockey guy from the Midwest,” he joked in typical self-deprecating style).
In fact, the Emmer of two decades ago was more bombastic, championing Ron Paul for president and endorsed by Sarah Palin in his bid for governor. But as Emmer has risen up the leadership ladder, his colleagues say he’s softened the edges of his politics, pointing to his vote for same-sex marriage protections last year.
“The yes vote was the right vote,” he said of that bill, despite some pushback in his party.
Despite Republicans’ underwhelming November midterms performance, Emmer still narrowly beat out two other GOP colleagues for the whip job. But it wasn’t without drama, and Emmer appeared to make a thinly veiled dig at Rep. Jim Banks (R-Ind.) after his allies blamed Emmer’s team for bruised feelings over an anonymous quote about Banks’ employment of Tucker Carlson’s son.
“All this ‘shock and awe’ garbage stuff — that’s not how leadership races work,” Emmer said. “Leadership races, I believe, are based on relationships, performance, plan, and frankly, implementation and success.”
Rep. Mike Garcia (R-Calif.), a member of Emmer’s whip team whose southern California district favored Biden by double-digits in the last presidential race, said the Minnesotan has viewed his job as helping party leaders identify potentially toxic votes — like those for Floridians and Midwesterners on the energy bill — to lessen the political pain later on: “That’s his job — to prevent those votes from becoming a reality.”
In truth, Emmer may not be able to stop all of them. And his toughest task in the two years ahead may not even be the warring between the GOP’s conservative base and its growing group of battleground-district centrists.
The GOP’s “biggest issue” in the first few weeks of session, he said in the interview, has actually been attendance, after House Republicans ended Democrats’ pandemic-era practice of proxy voting. Emmer, though, remains fully supportive of squelching the practice.

It is threatening to become a Premier League truism. When Manchester City face Arsenal, they always win. But never in a meeting as loaded as this. City’s 11th straight victory over Arsenal in the competition carried them above their opponents on goal difference at the top of the table, although they have played an extra game. As a statement of intent about a fifth title in six years, it was red hot.
Arsenal were the better team in the first half, running on passion, showing character to recover from Kevin De Bruyne’s wonderful opener. It was Bukayo Saka who equalised with the second-most important penalty of his career, coolly rolled past Ederson and, at the interval, you would have backed Mikel Arteta’s team to emerge from their wobble – the loss at Everton followed by the draw at home against Brentford on Saturday.
City simply narrowed their focus and raised their level. The second half would belong to them, with Erling Haaland to the fore. When he started to hare around and barge people about, it was as if he had zapped bolts of chaos at the Arsenal defence and fear around the Emirates.
Haaland played a part in Jack Grealish’s goal for 2-1, taking a pass from Bernardo Silva after Gabriel Magalhães had given away possession and ushering in Ilkay Gündogan. Jack Grealish took over, finishing with his right foot via a slight deflection off Takehiro Tomiyasu.
It was Haaland who moved the game beyond Arsenal when he rammed home City’s third. Gündogan was involved and De Bruyne cut the ball back. Touch from Haaland, finish, game over. In the blink of an eye and with the latest demonstration of his explosiveness. Haaland has 26 league goals already this season.
The symbol of City’s chutzpah? De Bruyne walking around the pitch and eyeballing the Arsenal support after his 87th-minute substitution as they threw bottles at him.
De Bruyne had not scored in his previous 13 City appearances but he corrected that after an error by Tomiyasu, who Arteta had selected ahead of Ben White at right-back. Tomiyasu was facing his own goal, under pressure from Grealish, when he decided to go back to Aaron Ramsdale, which went horribly wrong. De Bruyne had started loosely but he read Tomiyasu’s intentions and, with Ramsdale off his line, he knew what he had to do. The first-time left-footed lob was perfection.
The respective siege mentalities were a theme. Arteta had muttered darkly about the VAR aberration from the Brentford game, which allowed the equaliser against his team to stand, saying it had given everybody at the club “more desire to pass this hurdle they’ve put on us”.
Guardiola, though, could see Arteta’s dodgy refereeing decision and raise it by a hundred or so Premier League charges for financial irregularities. The City manager has harnessed the mood of defiance and persecution at the Etihad. Happy flowers? Guardiola wants hungry fellas. Or something like that.

De Bruyne’s goal was a kick in the teeth for Arsenal because they ought to have been in front. Jorginho – in for the injured Thomas Partey – had intercepted a De Bruyne pass to release Eddie Nketiah, who saw his shot blocked by Rúben Dias, but the big chance came on 22 minutes when Oleksandr Zinchenko whipped over a cross from the left. Nketiah flashed a free header wide.
Haaland had nearly got around the back of Tomiyasu in the 16th minute but it was Arsenal who forced the issue, their press high and effective. Ederson would be booked for timewasting mainly because he could not see a pass out. By then, Tomiyasu had lifted a volley high, Saka been held up by Nathan Aké after a wonderful move and Nketiah miscontrolled following a Gabriel Martinelli flick. Arsenal bristled with energy; an equaliser was in the air.

It came when Nketiah chased a ball over the top and Ederson seemed to stop, the Arsenal striker going into him after hooking in a shot that Aké scrambled off the line. The referee, Anthony Taylor, penalised Ederson for the foul, although he decided against showing him a second yellow card. Enter Saka. Ederson pointed to his right. Saka read the bluff and put the kick there. A breathless first half ended with a Rodri header flicking off Aké’s heel and striking the Arsenal crossbar.
Guardiola had made the journey to north London with a personal pledge not to die wondering. Hence the boldness of his starting lineup, packed with attacking midfield menace and Silva as a left-back when City were out of possession. Guardiola would change to a back four when he introduced Manuel Akanji for Riyad Mahrez on the hour and there was greater aggression from his team.
City thought they had a penalty just before the system change when Haaland muscled past Gabriel and was fouled by the defender. Taylor, under relentless pressure throughout, pointed to the spot only for the VAR, David Coote, to spot that Haaland had been offside from Kyle Walker’s ball forward.
Nketiah almost got on to a Tomiyasu cross but it was City who came to push, Rodri working Ramsdale with a header; Akanji seeing the rebound blocked. Haaland was also denied by the goalkeeper after a Zinchenko mistake before Grealish enjoyed his big moment. Haaland deserved a goal and he would get it. Arsenal’s evening was summed up when Nketiah blew another gilt-edged header in added time.

Hyderabad: AIMIM floor leader Akbaruddin Owaisi attended a high-level review meeting chaired by IT and municipal administration minister KT Rama Rao on Tuesday.
Home minister Mahmood Ali, Chevella MP Ranjith Reddy and other officials were also present in the review meeting.
Akbar, during an Assembly session on Saturday, had slammed the BRS over the ‘injustices’ done to the Old City. In response to this KTR stated that the AIMIM MLA with just seven seats was taking much more than the time allotted to it.
Akbar angered by his reply had said that the AIMIM will contest 50 Assembly seats in the coming election and try to win at least 15 seats so that his party gets a greater say in the Assembly.
While addressing the review meeting, KTR said that irrespective of political affiliations and areas, the development of the entire Hyderabad was the ultimate motto of the state government.
KTR listed out the projects underway and progress achieved in providing drinking water, power supply, mobility infrastructure, maintaining sanitation, conservation of heritage structures and works on other fronts during the meet.
The Minister said, “As part of the Strategic Road Development Programme (SRDP), strengthening of the road network in the Old City area is going on at a brisk pace and several flyovers, and construction of roads have been completed,” adding that projects worth crores of rupees were underway.
Stressing on road widening in the Old City area, KTR asked officials to speed up the work in localities where it was essential.
He further went on to say that works related to traffic junctions, and the construction of FoBs were under progress and the construction of bridges across the River Musi will be taken up soon.
Drawing attention towards the water supply in the Old City area, KTR said that the drinking water supply has improved in the last eight years and that more than Rs 1,200 crore was spent for the same.
“Over 2.5 lakh tap connections were provided in the Old City under the free water supply scheme of the Telangana government and the HMWS&SB has taken up several initiatives to strengthen the sewage water system.
Regarding future developments, the minister said, “Plans are ready for the restoration of Mir Alam Mandi and that the proposals for the construction of a six-line cable bridge over Mir Alam Tank are in the stage.”
Expressing satisfaction over the priority given to the development of the Old City, Akbar thanked the government and assured that his party would extend all support to implement the development projects.
Bengaluru: The budget session of the Karnataka legislature would start on February 10 and Chief Minister Basvaraj Bommai would table the budget on February 17, State Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister J C Madhuswamy said on Friday.
“It has been decided to conduct the budget session from February 10 with an address by Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot and the Chief Minister will table the budget on February 17. The business advisory committee will decide on the duration of the session,” Madhuswamy briefed reporters after the Cabinet meeting.
The Cabinet decided also to regularise quarrying for those who are into manual mining and mistakenly carry out their activities in different areas.
The government decided to increase the cess from sugar producers.
The cess for factories with 2,500 tonne of Cane per Day (TCD) capacity has been increased from existing Rs 10,000 to Rs 50,000.
Factories having capacity between 2,500 TCD and 5,000 TCD, the cess has been increased from Rs 15,000 to Rs one lakh and, the factories above 5,000 TCDs, which have been paying a cess of Rs 25,000 has been increased to Rs 1.5 lakh.
Those factories above 15,000 TCD capacity would pay a cess of Rs two lakh.
“The existing cess was prevalent for the past 30 to 40 years due to which we were facing difficulty to run the institution. So we increased the cess,” Madhuswamy said.
The decision to increase cess was taken to continue the operations of S Nijalingappa Sugar Institute for the research and development works in sugar and sugarcane, the Minister explained.
The Cabinet decided also to provide a shared capital of Rs 54.6 crore to the Karnataka State Finance Commission (KSFC), Madhuswamy said.
It also decided to extend the one-time settlement of the loans pending towards the KSFC after 2003, he added.
The benefit of one-time settlement was restricted only to those loans taken before October 31, 2003.
According to Madhuswamy, the KSFC has a due to the tune of Rs 345 crore from the defaulters comprising of 127.4 crore principal amount and Rs 217.6 crore interest.
