  • Moulvi Syed Allavuddin: Hyderabad’s unsung hero of Indian freedom struggle

Moulvi Syed Allavuddin: Hyderabad’s unsung hero of Indian freedom struggle

    [ad_1]

Moulvi Syed Allavuddin who was a spiritual leader used to exhort the people of Nizam State, one of the strongest princely states of South India, to rebel against the British hegemony. He stood at the forefront of the direct fight against the British Government.

Moulvi Syed Allavuddin was a native of Hyderabad, the capital of the erstwhile Nizam princely state. He intensified his rebellious activities soon after the First war of Independence of India was started in 1857.

A  rebellion started in Aurangabad which was part of Nizam State. The rebels who took part in the revolutionary activities in Aurangabad, escaped arrest and came to Hyderabad. They were arrested by the Nizam state police and kept in jail. The people and prominent citizens of Nizam state were angry when  Nizam rejected their plea to release the arrested rebels. They met in Mecca Masjid on July 17, 1857, and decided to attack the British Residency in Hyderabad.

    MS Education Academy

That afternoon at 4 pm about five hundred people led by Moulvi Allavuddin and another revolutionary leader Patan Turrebaz Khan marched ahead from Sultan Bazar with war cries to attack the British Residency, a symbol of British Supremacy. Nizam Nawab, being a friend of the British, informed the English officers of the imminent attack. The armies of the English and the Nizam moved strategically and confronted the attackers with additional forces.

Firing continued between the two sides throughout the night. The rebels retreated as the enemy forces gained an upper hand. The angry armies of the British and the Nizam cracked down on the people of Hyderabad. An award of four thousand rupees was announced on the head of  Moulvi  Syed Allavuddin.

Moulvi went underground. After taking shelter for one and half years from his close friend named Peer Mohammed, he started consultations with freedom fighters and revolutionaries like Syed Bhikkoo, Syed Lal, and Mohammed Ali to put an end to the hegemony of the British on his land and people. At last British forces arrested and sent Moulvi Allavuddin to the cellular jail in Andaman on June 28, 1859.

After leading a miserable life of  25 years as a prisoner, Moulvi Syed Allavuddin passed away in 1884.

  • Who is a Hindu, asks Sir Syed and explains the relationship between Hindus and Muslims

Who is a Hindu, asks Sir Syed and explains the relationship between Hindus and Muslims

    [ad_1]

It has become a political fashion for Hindus like Mohan Bhagwat and certain Muslim opinion-makers to either provoke Muslims or laud Hinduism to enter the good books of the RSS and BIP maharajas.

Shri Mohan Bhagwat ji keeps reminding Muslims that they are actually Hindus having Hindu ancestry. There are also some Muslim commentators who indicate their appreciation of the ancient Vedic philosophical heritage. They say that it represents universal human values which is no doubt true.

However, the intentions become suspicious in the background of the declaration of RSS-BJP leaders about India becoming a Hindu Rashtra. There is nothing substantial about such arguments; it is purely communal and keeps the nation diverted from the social and economic disaster looming large. This is common knowledge or, as they say, the new normal.

I am enlightening the RSS and the Muslims engaged in appeasement of RSS that more than 150 years ago a Muslim intellectual and one who is also accused of being the initiator of the two-nation theory, had not only claimed that he was a Hindu but also complained that the Hindus did not agree to call him a Hindu.

He is Sir Syed Ahmad Khan (1817-1898) founder of the great Muslim University of Aligarh. His views on this issue and on the Indian culture (not Muslim or Hindu culture) are as follows.

Sir Syed was fully aware of various shades of the word Qaum especially the distinction between its religious and political connotations. He insisted that Muslims be mindful of this distinction. In an article in 1884, he explained it. He held that the word nation always stood for communities either aligned to the descendants of some person or to some country. However, Islam abolished all “community distinctions” based on worldly considerations and replaced them with one spiritual community relationship–the relationship of the creed of Islam,
“There is no God except Allah, Muhammad is His Messenger.’

All distinctions of country or colour were abolished under another declaration of the Qur’an, all believers are brothers. At the same time, he points out that Muslims should not forget that besides the spiritual brothers (Muslims). They are also in the country with other brothers of the motherland (vatani bhai) with whom we share various cultural features. Respect for the neighbor is part of our faith and this neighbourliness has extended to co-citizenship. There are two parts of this relationship regarding our co-citizen-brothers (ham-vatan bhai)-one part is of God and the other is of human relationship. Leave God’s share to God and engage with the part of human relations. Help each other in human relations related to culture and social affairs. Observe mutual love, true friendship and friendly etiquette.”

  • Nearly 30 Households in Syed Hamid Pora Locality Srinagar Without Power Supply

    [ad_1]

Srinagar, Jan 26 (GNS): Locals of Gulbadaab Galli, opposite graveyard, in Syed Hamid Pora, Nawab Bazar in central Kashmir’s Srinagar district have expressed their anguish over non-availability of electricity amid ongoing harsh winters.

A local delegation told GNS that nearly thirty households have been left without electricity since Thursday afternoon. “We faced the outage this afternoon following which we reached out to the authorities concerned to know the issue”, they said, adding the authorities assured that they were on job to restore the supply at an earliest”.

“At around evening, when we called them again, they (department) told us that it may take a while to rectify the issue”, they said. “However even after several hours since then also, we are yet to see restoration of the supply”, they claimed.

“First the department kept us waiting for almost a day, promising the supply will be restored and now when we called them again they are saying it is too late for them to do anything now”, they said adding they are more concerned about themselves and not about the plight of common masses amid the prevalent harsh weather.

When contacted, AEE concerned Imtiyaz Ahmad told GNS that the department had put its men on job to rectify the issue. “We are mindful of the sufferings of people, however due to darkness and as a sort of precautionary measure, the men on job were taken off the duty to avoid any exigency in late hours”, he said adding the supply will be restored by or before 10 tomorrow (Friday).
