Russia halts oil supply to Poland: Polish refiner

    [ad_1]

Warsaw: Russia has halted oil supplies to Poland via the Druzhba pipeline, Poland’s leading oil and gas conglomerate PKN Orlen said.

Local media reported that the supply halt through the pipeline, exempted from the sanctions imposed by the European Union on Russia following the Russian special military operation in Ukraine, came a day after Poland delivered its first Leopard tanks to Ukraine.

The company on Saturday said it is fully prepared for such a situation and that deliveries to its refinery can be made entirely by sea, Xinhua News Agency reported.

“Only 10 percent of the raw material came from Russia, and we will replace it with oil from other directions,” Daniel Obajtek, CEO of the Polish refiner, said on Twitter.

Russia may supply Iran with fighter jets, Kirby says

    [ad_1]

Iran is also seeking to purchase attack helicopters, radars and combat trainer aircraft, he said. In total, Iran is hoping to obtain “billions of dollars” worth of military equipment from Russia.

When asked for details on the type of fighter jets or when they may be delivered, Kirby refused to elaborate.

“That’s really as far as I’m going to be allowed to go here,” Kirby said. “We’re going to be watching this very closely to see what, if anything, actually transpires.”

A closer military alliance between the two countries could make Western efforts in Ukraine and elsewhere more complicated, he said.

“It’s not only certainly going to make things in the Ukraine more difficult, but it could certainly make the security situation in the Middle East more difficult for our partners and friends there,” he added.

Last year, the U.S. sanctioned Iran for allegedly planning to sell or already selling Russia weapons, including drones and surface-to-surface missiles.

In December, senior Biden administration officials said Moscow was providing “unprecedented” military and technical support to Tehran in exchange for weapons, NBC News reported. Last spring, officials said Iranian pilots trained in Russia to fly a Russian fighter jet, indicating that Iran “may begin receiving the aircraft within the next year.”

Telangana: 991 cases of spurious seeds supply booked in 9 years

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: Telangana has recorded a total of 991 cases related to the manufacturing and supply of spurious seeds between 2014-2022.

A coordinated and firm action from all district superintendents of police and commissioners of police lead to curbing the menace of spurious seeds.

According to officials, 991 cases were booked between 2014-2022 with about 1,932 persons including dealers and suppliers being arrested in connection with the act.

The Telangana police have so far held 58 offenders under the Preventive Detention Act (PD Act) with a determination to continue crackdown on such dealers.

Director General of Police, Anjani Kumar said, “A coordinated and firm action mode of police commissioners and district superintendents to curb the menace of spurious seeds was helping in the crackdown against such seeds.”

“Most of them have no valid license from the Agriculture Department and sell spurious seeds in the guise of genuine seeds to farmers and others,” said an official.

Police officials elaborated on the act saying that the traders were purchasing huge quantities of unauthorized spurious vegetable seeds from various states like Gujarat, Maharashtra and Rajasthan for a low price and selling the same to farmers and customers at a higher price in Telangana.

Police have further advised agriculture sector workers to avoid purchasing the local company seeds in the market especially those without labelling and advised purchasing loose seeds would be beneficial.

  • Centre committed to ensuring regular supply of water in 13 Rajasthan districts: PM Modi

Centre committed to ensuring regular supply of water in 13 Rajasthan districts: PM Modi

    [ad_1]

Dausa: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said the Centre is committed to ensuring a regular supply of water for drinking and irrigation purposes in the 13 districts of eastern Rajasthan.

He said a draft plan for a major project, combining the Eastern Rajasthan Canal Project (ERCP) and the old Parvati-Kalisindh-Chambal link, has been shared by the Centre with the governments of Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh.

“The draft has been included in the list of priority-based projects by the special committee on rivers. The Centre will definitely think of advancing it when the governments of both the states agree on it,” Modi said at a public rally organised by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Rajasthan’s Dausa district.

Earlier, at another programme held a few kilometres away, where Modi inaugurated the first phase of the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot reminded the prime minister that he had promised to accord priority to the ERCP at his election rallies in the past.

Addressing the gathering through a video link from the chief minister’s residence in Jaipur, Gehlot said during his election rallies in Jaipur and Ajmer in the past, Modi had said a decision would be taken on giving priority to the project. “It is expected that you will say something on the ERCP,” the Congress leader said.

Modi said the people of Rajasthan have showered a lot of affection on the BJP but their progress would have been fast if there was a “double-engine” government in the state.

He asserted that solving the problem of drinking water in Rajasthan is the priority of the BJP-led government at the Centre.

The prime minister said the work on the Ken-Betwa river-linking project between Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh is about to start and similarly, the Centre is also committed to ensuring a regular supply of water for drinking and irrigation purposes in the 13 districts of eastern Rajasthan.

The ruling Congress in Rajasthan has been demanding that the Centre accord the status of a national project to the ERCP, which was conceptualised by the previous BJP government in the state led by Vasundhara Raje.

Dausa is one of the 13 districts covered under the project.

In his address, Gehlot also raised other demands related to infrastructure development in the state.

He said it was agreed in principle that 50 roads in Rajasthan will be converted into national highways, but a gazette notification to that effect is yet to be issued. The chief minister also said the detailed project report (DPR) of an elevated road in Jodhpur has been prepared and the project needs to be taken up further.

He said it is expected that the pending proposals of the state government will be cleared by the Centre.

Gehlot also highlighted the efforts of his government towards road and infrastructure development. He said 54,000 kilometres of roads have been laid in the state in the last four years and the work for an additional 46,000 kilometres is on.

Besides, a budgetary provision of Rs 20,000 crore has been made for infrastructure development, Gehlot added.

He said as a result of these efforts, investment is increasing in Rajasthan and his government is developing industrial areas at the block level.

The chief minister also pointed out that according to a survey conducted by the Centre, Rajasthan ranks second in the country in terms of growth rate.

Recalling the contributions of former prime ministers Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Manmohan Singh as regards highway construction and infrastructure development, Gehlot also lauded Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari for the initiatives taken by him in this sector.

Later in the day, Gehlot also took to Twitter to highlight the issue of ECRP.

“Honourable Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi ji, you missed a good opportunity today. The people of the state would have welcomed you had you fulfilled the assurance made before the last Assembly polls that the status of a national project would be given to the ERCP.

“Availability of water for drinking and irrigation purposes is very important for 13 districts in Rajasthan. The state government is taking forward the work related to the ERCP with its own resources. The prime minister should declare it a national project so that the work gets momentum and people get water,” he said in a series of tweets in Hindi.

Former Rajasthan deputy chief minister Sachin Pilot also tweeted on the issue.

“The prime minister came to Rajasthan for the second time in 15 days, but no step was taken even today towards giving the status of a national project to the ERCP. The project is a lifeline for 13 districts and a question of prosperity for lakhs of people. It is not right to refrain from giving it the status of a national project,” Pilot wrote on Twitter.

The Assembly polls in Rajasthan are due later in the year.

  • Price and supply volatility: Addressing global energy security needs

Price and supply volatility: Addressing global energy security needs

    [ad_1]

Bengaluru: Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the India Energy Week (IEW) 2023 on Monday. Participants from different countries gathered to discuss topical energy issues.

Rosneft Chief Executive Officer Igor Sechin also visited Indian Energy Week. Together with Prime Minister Modi, Sechin attended the ministerial session on Price and Supply Volatility and discussed energy cooperation between Russia and India.

According to the IMF’s recent estimates, India and its neighbours will account for half of global economic growth this year. In contrast, the contribution of the US and the Eurozone will amount to only 10 per cent. India’s “enlightened national interest” principles are highly respected.

Based on these principles, the government implements an independent, pressure-free economic policy in harmony with its partners. Cooperation opens up new horizons.

India, as the world’s most populous nation, has become a leader in global economic dynamics, demonstrating rapid improvements in the lives of its people. It is a big country with a young, ambitious population, where dynamics are of the utmost importance.

It is no coincidence that analysts and experts predict growth rates of up to 7 per cent per annum for India. In turn, Russia achieved a result more significant than many of the world’s leading economies in the face of unprecedented sanctions, pressure, and confrontation with almost the entire Western world. Despite the evolving situation around us, implementing major economic programmes has already proven to be a tremendous psychological victory. This will determine success in other spheres.

Thus, the actions of the world hegemon, in an attempt to preserve its hegemony by all means, destroyed the single energy market. To date, there is no single global energy market. Energy security is no longer a global concern. As a result of these actions, all the principles of market trading have been destroyed to date.

Market pricing, contract law and, in general, the possibilities of legal protection of market participants have been abolished. In addition, logistics chains built up for decades have been forcibly severed. The blown-up Nord Stream project serves as an illustrative example.

The reformatting of the European gas market is the most compelling example.

At first, contrary to common sense, Europe was first made to abandon long-term contracts and switch to spot pricing, which led to an unprecedented price increase before the well-known events in Ukraine in the midst of the forced green transition and under-investment in conventional energy. After eliminating Russian competition from the European market through sanctions and pressure, the Americans offered to return to long-term contracts that guarantee a return on investment. This is a banal case of unfair competition.

Consequently, Europe has lost its key competitive advantage — access to cheap and reliable Russian energy carriers — and is forced to pay three to five times higher prices for gas.

According to Bloomberg, the rejection of Russian gas has already cost Europe about 1 trillion euros.

As a result of a reasonable rejection of the accelerated energy transition, focusing on extracting conventional hydrocarbons, US oil majors have become leaders in capitalisation.

By the way, BP, the leader of the green agenda, demonstrated a different approach. They could not, like their competitors, take advantage of the current situation. Based on the results published in its annual reports, we could reasonably assume that BP may announce a return to the strategy of conventional production and a reduction in green investments that generate losses. The total amount of announced write-offs is $38 billion.

It is also observed in the audited annual reports that BP, Rosneft’s 20 per cent shareholder, has revised the value of Rosneft’s stake to $24 billion based on Rosneft’s performance results.

Rosneft assures the corporate world that it will work hard to keep the trust of its shareholders. At the same time, it should be noted that such an increase in the incomes of oil majors is not only due to favourable market conditions. A number of companies maximise profits and increase capitalization by directing funds to pay dividends and buy back shares.

Another beneficiary, taking advantage of the global energy crisis, is the Western military-industrial complex.

The answer to the destruction of the global market and the severance of logistics chains is the regionalisation of markets, and the development of new safe logistics. The regionalisation of markets means forming regional payment systems with their own regional settlement and reserve currencies.

Obviously, the main risks of volatility are unprecedented sanctions pressure, including the so-called ‘price cap’. Non-market interventions must be treated calmly. Experts know how to find a solution. The reference price for Russian oil cannot be decided where this oil does not exist. If there are no supplies to Europe, then the reference prices will be decided from where it arrives — FOB Nakhodka, Dubai, and so on.

As it is written in the Ecclesiastes: “If something is crooked, it can’t be made straight; if something isn’t there, it can’t be counted.”

The fundamental reason for the energy crisis is primarily underinvestment in the industry as consumption grows and the pace of resource replenishment is insufficient.

The annual OPEC report indicates the opinion of Secretary-General Haitham Al Ghais: that to meet the growing oil demand alone by 2045, investments to the tune of $12 trillion are needed. Consumption today is 100 million barrels per day and continues to grow. The four countries with the highest resource base, however, remain the same: Venezuela, Russia, Saudi Arabia and Iran.

Russian companies, Rosneft in particular, are among the few that have not reduced their level of investment in development over the past decade. Today, Rosneft is implementing the world’s largest investment project to create a new oil and gas province in Eastern Siberia, Vostok Oil, with a resource base of 6.5 billion tons.

One of the drivers of Rosneft’s low carbon operations is Vostok Oil. The flagship project’s carbon footprint is only a quarter of the average global indicators of projects in the modern oil industry.

The Vostok Oil project is distinguished by its uniquely low sulphur content — 0.01-0.04 per cent. The indicator is comparable to the Euro-3 standard for diesel fuel. Vostok Oil actually produces green barrels with the help of advanced technologies. Rosneft is one of the leaders of the low-carbon agenda. The company was the first in the domestic energy sector to set a net zero target by 2050 for Scopes 1 and 2.

In India, such projects are implemented by Nayara. As part of the reinforcement of energy security, we are ready to increase supplies on a long-term basis and diversify supplies. Rosneft will support the activities of Nayara Energy shareholders to develop refining capacities, develop petrochemistry and expand the retail business.

Rosneft can and will work wherever there is growth potential and intent to protect our interests, despite external pressure.

Such countries constitute the largest and growing part of the world’s energy consumption. Rosneft noted the responsible, balanced position of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and our other OPEC+ partners, acting in the long-term interests of stabilising the energy market, despite enormous external pressure.

In fact, one just doesn’t have to step on any rake. All in good time. First, real new green technologies should be developed that can actually reduce carbon emissions. Such technologies simply do not exist right now.

It is necessary right now to reduce emissions in the traditional energy industry, using the technological potential that gives a real effect. Dynamic economic growth in India means large-scale energy consumption and demand growth.

This development of the global energy sector is in Russia’s interests. Therefore, it will do everything it can to support India’s plans. The speed of adapting our economies to new conditions will be of key importance.

Apple logs $65.8 bn in iPhone revenue as China disruptions hit supply

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: Apple reported $65.8 billion in revenue for iPhones in the holiday quarter, down 8 per cent (year-over-year).

However, on a constant currency basis, iPhone revenue was roughly flat, according to the company.

Apple faced supply chain disruptions in October and November as China faced Covid surge and protests erupted at its key supplier Foxconn’s main factory in the country.

Cook said that Covid-related challenges “significantly impacted the supply of iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max and lasted through most of December”.

“Because of these constraints, we had significantly less iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max supply than we planned, causing ship times to extend far beyond what we had anticipated,” he noted.

Cook said that as a result of a challenging environment, “our revenue was down 5 per cent year over year”.

“But I’m proud of the way we have navigated circumstances, seen and unforeseen, over the past several years, and I remain incredibly confident in our team and our mission and in the work we do every day,” he said in an earnings call with analysts.

“Our customers continue to rave about the astounding camera capabilities and unprecedented battery life and the groundbreaking suite of health and safety features. The iPhone 14 lineup pushes the limits of what users can do with a smartphone,” he added.

During the quarter, Mac revenue came in at $7.7 billion, which was in line with what Apple had expected.

During the quarter, iPad revenue grew 30 per cent to a total of $9.4 billion.
