CPI (M) MP John Brittas summoned by Vice prez over ‘anti-Amit Shah’ article

    [ad_1]

A show-cause notice has been served to Communist Party of India (Marxist) MP John Brittas by the Vice President of India and Rajya Sabha chairperson Jagdeep Dhankar on Sunday over an article criticizing Union Home Minister Amit Shah for outbursts against Kerala.

Brittas’s critical article – Perils of Propaganda – on Shah was published by The Indian Express on February 20.

The summon was made based on a complaint by the general secretary of Kerala’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) P Sudheer.

Confirming the news, Brittas said it was the Centre’s tactics to silence dissent.

“Yes, I was called for a meeting over an article I wrote and I explained sufficiently my position on the issue. I told the Rajya Sabha chairman that writing the article was my fundamental right and part of my freedom of expression. If a cryptic remark can be made on Kerala, I am fully free to respond,” Brittas said.

Brittas had written over a remark by Shah while touring Karnataka in February that the saffron party is the only hope to keep the country safe. “There is Kerala near you. I don’t want to say much,” Shah had remarked.

“Shah’s periodic outbursts targeting Kerala are proof of his desperation as well as his attempt to turn India into a Hindu Rashtra and rewind this country to a past with the Manu Smriti replacing the Constitution. Kerala has tirelessly resisted his party’s designs,” Brittas mentioned in his article.

  • Former IAS Officer Summoned In JK Biological Father Dispute Case

    [ad_1]

SRINAGAR: A woman from Srinagar has changed her counsel with the hope of obtaining speedy justice and proving that an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) Officer, Sudhanshu Pandey, is the biological father of her daughter. According to the woman, Pandey married her and had a daughter with her, but later abandoned them.

After hearing the counsel for the victim, Advocate Mir Naveed Gul, the Court of Second Additional Munsiff in Srinagar issued fresh directions to defendant Sudhanshu Pandey to appear in person for recording of the statement. The court directed Pandey to appear in person and file in writing whether he consents to a DNA test if the court orders one to check whether the girl born from the victim is his biological child or not.

The woman claims that Pandey, who was posted as Finance Secretary in the Government of Jammu and Kashmir, developed a relationship with her in Srinagar in 2010. Pandey then converted to Islam and married the woman in May 2010. Their daughter was born on April 12, 2011. However, a few months later, in October 2012, Pandey was transferred to New Delhi and he left the woman and their child in Srinagar.

Pandey refuted all the allegations and denied marrying the woman. He responded in court by stating that the allegations made in the petition are false and that he had not married the woman. He also mentioned that the woman had entered into another wedlock on August 1, 2010, which ended in divorce in October 2010, and the minor was a child from her first marriage.

The parties presented conflicting birth certificates and medical records of the child, with two different names listed as the father. The high court had ordered the finalization of the parentage suit before passing any order for maintenance.

Advocate Mir said, “The court has issued these directions afresh as Sudhanshu Pandey has served at various posts in J&K, including the rank of Commissioner Secretary.” He added that he was approached by the victim because she believes that the proceedings were delayed and she wants speedy delivery of justice. Satya Pal Malik Summoned By CBI in Old Kashmir Case

    [ad_1]

New Delhi, Apr 21: The Wire has learnt that former Jammu and Kashmir governor and BJP-appointed governor for four other states Satya Pal Malik, who made many revelations about national security and Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s approach to corruption in an explosive interview with Karan Thapar, has been called in by the country’s apex investigating agency, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), “for questioning” on April 28. He will be going to the CBI’s office in New Delhi to answer questions.

It is reliably learnt that the ‘questioning’ will be on the Reliance Insurance issue – the scheme that RSS and BJP leader Ram Madhav was allegedly pushing Malik to pass while he was the governor of Jammu and Kashmir, and which Malik cancelled.

On April 14, Malik had given an explosive interview to Karan Thapar for The Wire, in which he had specifically spoken of this deal. Bharatiya Janata Party and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh leader Ram Madhav, Malik said, paid the then Jammu and Kashmir governor a special visit to try and get him to pass a scheme proposed by Reliance Insurance. When Malik made it clear that the scheme had been cancelled and the paperwork was done, Madhav left disappointed, according to Malik.

Malik had also mentioned this incident in an interview to Prashant Tandon for DB Live, conducted before Thapar’s interview. After that aired, Madhav sent Malik a defamation notice.–(The Wire)

  • Sri Lanka’s ex-AG summoned over 2019 Easter Sunday attacks

Sri Lanka’s ex-AG summoned over 2019 Easter Sunday attacks

    [ad_1]

Colombo: Sri Lanka’s former Attorney General (AG), who claimed that there was a ‘grand conspiracy’ behind the 2019 Easter Sunday attacks, has been summoned to the police special investigation unit to record a statement.

Ex-Attorney General Dappula de Livera has been summoned to the Terrorist Investigation Department (TID) to appear on Wednesday following a direction by Justice Minister Wijayadasa Rajapakshe to the present AG to record a statement from the former AG.

Few days ahead of his retirement in 2021, Livera had stated that there was a ‘grand conspiracy with regard to the 2019 April Attacks’.

    MS Education Academy

Speaking to the media, the former AG had stated that the foreign violent extremist religious ideology was imported to Sri Lanka at some point and it played a key role in carrying out the attacks.

Livera had also claimed that the investigations into the coordinated attacks, carried out on three Christian churches and four hotels on April 21, 2019, were focused on three people living overseas including Abu Hind in India, and Lukman Thalib and son in Australia for their connection to the attacks.

Indian security agencies, which had followed the extremist movement in Sri Lanka, National Thowheeth Jama’ath and its leader Mohammed Zaharan, had shared detailed information about the attacks well ahead of the disaster but Sri Lankan security had to act on the details provided.

The multiple attacks killed nearly 270 people including foreigners and injured over 500.

UK envoy summoned after Khalistan supporters take down Tricolour at Indian High Commission in London

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) late on Sunday summoned the senior-most UK diplomat in India to convey its strong protest after some pro-Khalistani groups allegedly took down the Tricolour at the Indian High Commission in London.

MEA spokesperson Arindam Bagchi tweeted: “India lodges strong protest with UK”, along with a ministry statement.

Some pro-Khalistani groups staged a demonstration at the Indian High Commission in London over Punjab government’s crackdown against self-styled radical preacher Amritpal Singh.

Delhi excise scam case: Kavitha summoned again on March 20 by ED

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: Kavitha, the daughter of Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, who skipped the questioning of Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with Delhi excise policy scam, has been summoned again on March 20 by the probe agency.

On Thursday, her second round of questioning had to be done which she skipped.

Now, the ED has sent her another summon to join the investigation on March 20.

During her first appearance, she was reportedly confronted with Hyderabad-based businessman Arun Pillai, who had represented the South Group that allegedly gave kickbacks of Rs 100 crore to AAP leaders. The money was allegedly used during the Goa Assembly polls.

Pillai has reportedly said that he was Kavitha’s associate.

On Wednesday, the ED recorded the statement of Buchchi Babu, the BRS MLC’s former auditor and also a member of the South Group.

Kavitha has maintained that she has never met former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, who has been arrested by the CBI and the ED in connection with the case, claiming that her name was being unnecessarily dragged in the case.

According to the ED, Kavitha is also one of the representatives of South Group in the excise policy case.

Bandi Sanjay summoned by Telangana women’s commission on March 18

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: After summons from the State Commission for Women to Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) state president and MP Bandi Sanjay over his alleged derogatory remarks on Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLC K Kavitha, Bandi has requested to adjourn the date to March 18 instead of March 15, as the parliament is in session.

Telangana state women’s commission on Monday had taken suo moto cognizance of Bandi’s remark on the BRS MLC K Kavitha.

Following the summon letter, Sanjay on Tuesday wrote a letter to the Women’s Commission requesting it to postpone the date of his appearance before the body.

He said that “Since the Budget session is going to be held in his presence in the Parliament that is a must, hence I can’t appear before the Commission on Wednesday. I would be available on March 18 at the convenience of the Commission.”

He also requested the Commission to provide details of the case in which he had been issued summons so as to prepare in that direction.

So far, three cases have been registered against Bandi Sanjay for allegedly using defamatory and derogatory comments against Kavitha.

The cases against Bandi Sanjay are registered at the Saroornagar, L. B Nagar and Chaitanyapuri police stations under the Rachakonda police limits.

Bandi Sanjay, while addressing a rally had stated, “Few journalists asked me if Kavitha would be arrested. If or not arrested should Kavitha be kissed?”

  • ED grills Kavitha for nine hours, summoned again on March 16

ED grills Kavitha for nine hours, summoned again on March 16

    [ad_1]

New Delhi/Hyderabad: After nearly nine long hours of questioning, Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) senior leader and MLC K Kavitha was finally let-off by the Enforcement Directorate on Saturday. However, her phone continues to remain in ED’s custody.

The daughter of Telangana chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) will appear before the ED next on March 16, sources said.

The questioning took place in the national capital after the central investigative agency summoned the BRS leader on Wednesday in connection with the Delhi liquor excise scam. A day earlier on Friday, she staged a peaceful protest at Jantar Mantar demanding the women’s reservation bill.

According to sources, Kavitha was made to sit face-to-face with Hyderabad-based businessman Arun Ramchandra Pillai, who was also arrested in the same case. Pillai is one of the alleged key persons in the entire scam involving payments of huge kickbacks and the formation of the biggest cartel of the ‘South Group’.

South Group, according to the investigation, comprises Telangana MLC Kavitha, Sarath Reddy (promoter of Aurobindo Group), Magunta Srinivasulu Reddy (MP, Ongole), his son Raghav Magunta, and others. The South Group was being represented by Pillai, Abhishek Boinpalli and Butchi Babu, the federal agency revealed.

Pillai along with his associates was reportedly coordinating with various persons to execute the political understanding between the South Group and a leader of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Pillai has been an accomplice and was involved in the kickbacks from the South Group and the recoupment of the same from the businesses in Delhi, ED investigation reveals.

Pillai is learnt to be a partner of 32.5 percent in Indo Spirits, which had got an L1 license. Indo Spirits is a partnership firm of Arun Pillai (32.5 percent), Prem Rahul (32.5 percent) and Indospirit Distribution Limited (35 percent), wherein Arun Pillai and Prem Rahul represented the benami investments of Kavitha and Magunta Srinivasulu Reddy and his son Raghava Magunta.

Kavitha, who is a member of the Telangana Legislative Council, was questioned by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in the same case in December last year.
