    SRINAGAR: On Tuesday, the Jammu and Kashmir government appointed Joint Director of Information in Kashmir, Mohammad Aslam, as the nodal officer and single point of contact (SPOC) for the upcoming G20 Summit in Srinagar, starting from May 22.

    According to an official order, Aslam’s appointment as nodal officer and SPOC was based on the minutes of a meeting held on February 16, 2023, and directions issued on May 8, 2023, during a review of preparations for the G-20 summit.

    The order stated that Aslam, a JKAS officer, will oversee the proper implementation of the comprehensive media plan prepared by DIPR (Department of Information and Public Relations) and ensure information dissemination and appropriate coverage of the event.

    “With reference to minutes of the meeting dated 16-02-2023 and directions issued on 8-05-2023 during review of preparations for G-20 summit, it is hereby ordered that Mr. Mohd Aslam (JKAS) Joint Director Information, Kashmir (Contact No. – +91-9419000155) shall be the Nodal officer & Single Point of Contact (SPOC) for the forth-coming G-20 Summit in the UT of J&K,” read an order issued today.

    His roles and responsibilities would be “to ensure proper implementation of the Comprehensive Media plan prepared by DIPR, covering all activities for information dissemination and proper coverage of the G-20 event,” and “to ensure proper coordination and liaison with Tourism Department and other stakeholders as required.

    Riyadh: The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s first woman yoga master and chairperson of the Saudi committee for Yoga Nouf Al-Marwaai will represent the country on the sidelines of the G20 summit in India in September this year.

    They have been invited to deliver a speech at the C20 programme, that will be held under the theme “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam” (One Land, One Family, One Future Through Yoga).

    In turn, Nouf Al-Marwaai took to Twitter and wrote, “Meeting with the Honorable Minister of State for External Affairs, Gov of India @MOS_MEA in Riyadh today discussing bilateral exchanges in the field of Yoga & upcoming Yoga activities during India’s G20 Presidency in @C20EG @iccr_hq.”

    What is G20 Summit?

    G20 Summits are held annually, led by a rotating presidency. It initially focused largely on broad macroeconomic issues, but has since expanded its agenda to include trade, sustainable development, health, agriculture, energy, environment, climate change and anti-corruption.

    G20 or Group of 20 is an intergovernmental forum comprising 19 countries and the European Union (EU).

    The members of the G20 are Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Turkiye, the United Kingdom, the United States, and the European Union.

    India is hosting the 18th edition of the G20 summit from September 9 to 10 in New Delhi this year.

    Hyderabad: State IT minister K T Rama Rao has been invited to the AsiaBerlin Summit 2023 to be held in Berlin, Germany, from June 12 to June 15.

    The summit will be held with the theme Connecting the Startup Ecosystems will be inaugurated by the Governing Mayor of Berlin Kai Wegner in Rotes Rathaus.

    The invite from the Senate Department for Economics, Energy and Public Enterprises, requested KTR to speak at this year’s Summit and thus strengthen the partnership between our countries and send a visible signal for intensifying this cooperation.

    WEF’s President Børge Brende stated in the invitation that driven by KTR’s vision, Telangana has become a beacon of innovation and a pioneer in embracing emerging technologies.

    “Telangana is leading India’s start-up and innovation system through future-oriented policies and enablers such as the T-Hub. Participants will be keen to hear your insights on promoting growth in Telangana led by entrepreneurship, innovation and digital transformation,” reads the invitation.

    The meeting will convene over 1,500 global leaders from business, government, civil society, international organizations and academia at a pivotal time for the global economic recovery. It will focus on key transformations such as accelerating the energy transition, making progress on climate and sustainability, deploying innovation across economies and industries, and post-pandemic consumer behaviour.

    SRINAGAR: The School Education Department has sought details of ten toppers or innovative students from each district for deputation to the International Conference on ‘Nanotechnology for Better Living’ under the G20 programme.

    Director of School Education Kashmir (DSEK) has stated that at least ten student toppers or innovators per district, preferably from the 11th and 12th grades, will be deputed for the International Conference on Nanotechnology for Better Living under the G20 programme.

    The conference, the 8th edition of the biennial International Conference on Nanotechnology for Better Living (NBL-23), will be organized by NIT Srinagar in association with prestigious institutions and organizations, including IIT BHU, from May 25-29, which marks the birth anniversary of physicist and inventor Daniel Gabriel Fahrenheit.

    The director said that a fusion of biological, chemical, physical, agriculture, and health services is expected to provide a vibrant platform to present and discuss path-breaking research ideas in nanotechnologies and shall be an interface between academia and industries. Additionally, pre-conference tutorials for school children who are supposed to work for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) have been arranged.

    The director has directed the CEOs of the region to depute ten student toppers or innovators from their respective districts for the scientific event on May 23, which marks the inaugural day. The CEOs have been requested to provide the list of students from their district along with their models or innovations, as per the format, along with details of the escort teacher.

    Dedicated sessions, ‘Seeding Nano-science to Young Minds’ and “Nurturing minds for a better world” shall be conducted during the conclave by leading stalwarts, thus handing over this multidisciplinary science to our young and smart generation. A galaxy of local innovators and entrepreneurs shall also be part of the summit, along with the students. (KNO)

    KULGAM, MAY 06: Ahead of G-20 engagements scheduled this month, a high level meeting of civil and police officers was today held under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kulgam, Dr. Bilal-Mohi-Ud-Din-Bhat and SSP Kulgam Sahil Sarangal at Mini-Secretariat, Kulgam.

    The meeting was attended by ADDC Showkat Ahmad Rather, ADC Viqar Ahmed, A-SP Shabir Ahmad, ACR, ACD, SDPOs and all district and sectoral officers.

    During the meeting, the DC took an elaborate review of security arrangements.

    After threadbare discussion, directions were passed to civil and police officers with regard to measures and requisite steps which are to be taken by them in view of the scheduled G-20 meeting.

    All the officers were strictly directed to follow the instructions and directions, without any fail and decipher highest level of professional conduct.

    Srinagar, May 6 (GNS): A Lashker-e-Toiba militant was killed in an encounter with joint team of police, army and paramilitary CRPF in Baramulla district, officials said on Saturday.

    SSP Baramulla Amod Ashok Nagpure (IPS) said that a joint cordon-and-search operation was launched on the basis of the information from a reliable source that some militants are hiding in Karhama village which falls under jurisdiction of police station Kunzer Baramulla. “Based on the information, police, army’s 2 Rashtriya Rifles and 176 battalion CRPF launched the joint cordon during which search party came under indiscriminate fire from a residential house,” he said, adding, “In the ensuing encounter, a militant was killed who was resident of Kulgam district and affiliated with Lashker-e-Toiba militant outfit.”

    He has been identified as Abid Wani son of Mohammad Rafiq Wani of Yarhol Babapora Kulgam. “One AK 47 rifle was recovered.

    “It has come to fore that he had come to carry out a big militant incident. A case has been registered and further investigation taken up,” he told reporters, according to GNS.

    While it was the second encounter in the Baramulla district in around 72 hours, the officer said that in view of the G20 summit all security agencies are on the high alert. “Our network is very strong and we have been getting timely information regarding every suspicious movement and due to synergy among all forces, we have been able to neutralize every threat,” he said, adding, “In view of our preparedness and arrangements, we are fully hopeful about successful conduct of the G20 summit.” (GNS)
