    Mumbai: It was one star-studded affair at the grand opening of Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre (NMACC) in Mumbai on Friday night where who’s who of Bollywood marked his or her presence.

    While Salman Khan and Aamir Khan posed for the paps, Shah Rukh Khan did give a miss to the shutterbugs! However, his looks for Friday night set the internet on fire.

    Shah Rukh’s manager Pooja Dadlani took to her Instagram to post his look for the event. Shah Rukh looked absolutely dapper in his black suit. He sported a pendant with a black stone to complement the look.

    Soon after Pooja posted these pictures, celebs and SRK fans rushed to the comment section.

    Mahira Khan, who performed in ‘Raees’ with Shah Rukh, wrote, “What is this behaviour, Pooja?”

    Oscar-winning producer Guneet Monga wrote, “Dear Lord” with some heart emojis.

    Fans compared SRK with his son. “Srk giving competition to his own son”, wrote a fan.

    Another one wrote, “Thought it’s Aryan for a second!”

    Though Shah Rukh was not present in the family frame, it was Salman Khan who joined Gauri Khan, Aryan Khan and Suhana Khan for a special photo-op at the event.

    Mumbai: Bollywood actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui has filed a defamation suit in the Bombay High Court seeking Rs 100 crore damages from his former wife Aaliya alias Zainab Siddiqui and his brother Shamasuddin Siddiqui accusing them of making defamatory and false statements against him.

    The suit is likely to be heard on March 30 by a single bench of Justice Riyaz Chagla.

    The actor, embroiled in a matrimonial dispute with his former wife, requested the HC to permanently restrain Aaliya and his brother from making any statements or remarks that would defame him.

    He also sought a written apology from his former wife and brother.

    As per the suit, Nawazuddin had appointed Shamasuddin as his manager in 2008 and “blindly” assigned all financial work to him.

    However, Shamasuddin started cheating and defrauding Nawazuddin and purchased properties using the actor’s money, the suit alleged.

    It added that when the actor learnt about the fraud and raised queries, Shamasuddin instigated Aaliya to file a false case against Nawazuddin. The actor claimed Aaliya and Shamsuddin have misappropriated Rs 21 crore from him.

    When Nawazuddin demanded that properties be returned to him, Shamasuddin and Aaliya joined hands and started blackmailing the actor by uploading “cheap videos and comments on social media”, the suit said.

    Neither Carroll nor Trump asked Kaplan, an appointee of President Bill Clinton, to block access to the jurors’ names, addresses and similar information. Kaplan raised the idea on his own and announced Thursday he will impose the secrecy despite objections from two news outlets: the Associated Press and the New York Daily News.

    The secrecy measure is typically reserved for criminal cases involving alleged mafia or drug kingpins. But Kaplan cited a series of alleged threats of violence by Trump, his public attacks on jurors in other cases and various reports describing Trump’s role in fomenting the Capitol riot on Jan. 6, 2021, as well as his statement Saturday urging his followers to protest what he said was his looming arrest in a probe led by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg.

    “Mr. Trump’s quite recent reaction to what he perceived as an imminent threat of indictment by a grand jury sitting virtually next door to this Court was to encourage ‘protest’ and to urge people to ‘take our country back,’” Kaplan wrote in an 18-page decision. “That reaction reportedly has been perceived by some as incitement to violence. And it bears mention that Mr. Trump repeatedly has attacked courts, judges, various law enforcement officials and other public officials, and even individual jurors in other matters.”

    Even as he recounted a litany of provocative statements by Trump, Kaplan was careful to say that he was not accusing the former president of being responsible for incitement, only that the specter created by his statements could be seen as intimidating.

    “For purposes of this order, it matters not whether Mr. Trump incited violence in either a legal or a factual sense. The point is whether jurors will perceive themselves to be at risk,” the judge wrote.

    Kaplan noted that neither side in the case objected to the proposed jury-secrecy order, which instructs court personnel not to reveal the names, addresses or places of employment of prospective jurors or actual jurors empaneled in the trial, scheduled to start April 25 at a federal courthouse in lower Manhattan just a few blocks from where Bragg’s grand jury has been hearing evidence against Trump in a probe stemming from a payment of hush money in 2016 to porn star Stormy Daniels.

    Caroll’s lawsuit is the second she filed in connection with Trump’s alleged attack on her in a Bergdorf Goodman dressing room in 1995 or 1996. The first, filed in 2019, accused Trump of defamation for his statements denying her rape claim. The second suit, which Kaplan has ordered be tried first, was filed in November and seeks damages against Trump directly for the alleged rape. Caroll’s lawyers have said they couldn’t file that case until last year, after New York’s Legislature extended the statute of limitations for civil suits alleging sexual abuse or harassment.

    Trump’s attorneys argued that the extension was unconstitutional, but Kaplan disagreed.

    Kolkata: A defamation suit has been filed against a West Bengal minister and the spokesman of Trinamool Congress on charges of making derogatory remarks against the leader of the opposition in the Assembly, Suvendu Adhikari.

    The suit was filed before a district court at Contai in East Midnapore district by Soumnedu Adhikari, the younger brother of Suvendu Adhikari.

    The suit has been filed against Cabinet minister Shashi Panja, Trinamool state general secretary and party spokesman Kunal Ghosh, and Trinamool mouthpiece ‘Jago Bangla’.

    Soumendu Adhikari told newspersons that for quite some time now, derogatory and baseless remarks are being made against the leader of the opposition, even tagging him with the recent development of termination of non-teaching staff in state-run schools.

    “There have been articles in ‘Jago Bangla’ claiming that 55 of the terminated staff were recruited following recommendations from Suvendu Adhikari when he was with the Trinamool Congress. These are all baseless allegations,” Soumendu Adhikari said.

    He also said that before filing the defamation suit on Wednesday, he had sent a legal notice to all the three parties, asking them to tender unconditional apology for making baseless and derogatory remarks.

    “Not receiving any reply, I finally filed the defamation suit against them on Wednesday,” he said.

    It is learnt that a criminal defamation suit has been filed against Panja and Adhikari under Section 500 of the Indian Penal Code, which deals with punishment for defamation.

    The lawsuit, which has been looming over the pending merger for months, could delay the deal by well over a year. The companies have until early next year to close the deal, which is aimed at creating the nation’s fifth-largest airline in an industry dominated by Delta, American, Southwest and United.

    In an interview with POLITICO in late February, JetBlue CEO Robin Hayes and Spirit CEO Ted Christie both argued that the deal would mean lower prices for people who want to fly. But the Justice Department, which has been investigating the proposed merger since summer, was unconvinced that removing ultra-low-cost carrier Spirit from the market would not cause fares to rise.

    When asked for details about how the merger could drive down prices, Hayes said fares are a “function of capacity” and that Spirit flights would adopt JetBlue’s seat configuration. Though that means fewer seats, he argued that customers would still save because planes in the new, combined airline would spend more time in the air and less time on the ground.

    The suit comes at a time of immense upheaval for the airline industry, including the December debacle in which Southwest Airlines canceled more than 16,000 flights during the Christmas holidays. That episode helped stoke anger from consumers and regulators, amid complaints that decades of mergers have left passengers at the mercy of a monolithic airline industry.

    Federal antitrust regulators have taken a harder line against a range of powerful businesses under President Joe Biden, including a recent DOJ lawsuit aimed at breaking up Google’s advertising business and the Federal Trade Commission’s unsuccessful attempt to stop Facebook’s parent from buying a fitness app.

    JetBlue’s and Spirit’s argument before DOJ is essentially that they must merge in order to compete with the big four legacy airlines.

    To address DOJ’s concerns, JetBlue has offered to sell off the entirety of Spirit’s operations at Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey, New York’s LaGuardia Airport and Boston Logan International Airport in Massachusetts, as well as five slots at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport in Florida.

    Not on the table was an offer to abandon JetBlue’s Northeast Alliance with American Airlines, which the DOJ challenged in court last year and is awaiting a ruling from a federal judge in Boston.

    Now JetBlue has a second DOJ antitrust case to contend with.

    Among other things, the suit accuses Wren of using the plaintiff’s name in tweets and saying he was fired from multiple jobs “for lying and unethical behavior” and for “being a habitual liar.” An attorney for the plaintiff on Jan. 12 sent Wren a letter demanding a retraction of statements she had made about the plaintiff on Twitter, according to the complaint, but Wren “continued to maliciously post statements about Mr. Doe.”

    While the plaintiff has been terminated from multiple jobs — including from one last week — his attorney states in the filing that the plaintiff has not lost jobs because he was a liar or unethical.

    Wren’s tweets “have placed Mr. Doe into contempt, ridicule, and disgrace within the community,” the complaint states.

    The plaintiff is seeking more than $500,000 in damages from Wren.

    Wren did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

    The suit adds another chapter to a political and legal saga that has affected Republican campaign operations and conservative activists, of which Wren is an increasingly influential one.

    The plaintiff, a former Herschel Walker campaign staffer, first shared with the Daily Beast his account of Matt Schlapp allegedly sexually assaulting him after a campaign event for the Senate candidate. In a subsequent lawsuit, he provided more details about the alleged incident.

    According to the suit, the alleged assault took place in October while Schlapp was in Georgia stumping for Walker. The men went for drinks in Atlanta, where they returned after the staffer drove Schlapp back from a campaign event Oct. 19. The plaintiff accused Schlapp of “aggressively fondling” his “genital area in a sustained fashion” while he was “frozen with fear and panic,” according to the original lawsuit filed Jan. 17.

    Schlapp has denied the charges and, through a lawyer, suggested he may counter-sue the plaintiff.

    The plaintiff sued Matt Schlapp for both sexual battery and defamation. In addition, he sued Mercedes Schlapp for defamation. Wren was named in the first lawsuit, but was not listed as a defendant.

    The plaintiff filed both the suit against the Schlapps and the one against Wren as John Doe, since he says he is a victim of sexual assault. In addition to the more than $500,000 in damages he is seeking from Wren, the plaintiff is seeking more than $9 million from the Schlapps. The couple are prominent Republican commentators. Matt Schlapp chairs the American Conservative Union, which hosts the influential CPAC confab. Two ACU board members have released a statement of support for Schlapp.

    The lawsuit against the Schlapps has not stopped CPAC’s largest annual event from going on as planned. The CPAC gathering, scheduled for March 1 through 4 at Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center in Maryland, is slated to feature Trump and other top GOP figures as speakers.
