SRINAGAR: Following the horrible road accident on Boulevard near SKICC on Friday which resulted in the on-spot death of a 20-year-old youth, Traffic Police Srinagar on Saturday said special teams have been formed to identify individuals involved in stunt biking.

Senior Superintendent Police Traffic for Srinagar, Muzaffar Ahmad Shah said that the multilevel measures to curb stunts and rash riding by two-wheelers are being taken besides identifying the boys involved in it.

“It is not restricted to Srinagar only; there are some boys from other districts who come to Srinagar for these stunts. We are in the process of identifying them and are compiling data on it,” he said.

SSP City Traffic said they will also seek assistance from the district police as well, as they will be summoning those involved in bike stunts through their concerned police stations.

“We are going to come down heavily on the repeated and habitual offenders,” the officer said, adding, “We have summoned a few and are trying to reach out to the maximum to counsel them afresh.”

Speaking about Friday’s accident, the officer said the incident is “painful”. “I have been urging the parents to be more sensitive in giving two-wheelers or any other vehicle to their children.”

“In addition to law enforcement, parents play a crucial role in preventing these types of situations. If they want to offer their children two-wheelers or other vehicles, they should make sure they have all the necessary documentation, safety equipment,” he said.

Srinagar traffic police said last week that they now have specialized “Speed Radar Guns” to measure the speed of moving cars. They claimed that the technology will assist them to stop high-speed, stunt biking, and reckless driving by vehicles. (KNO)

  • Speed Radar Guns To Prevent Stunt Biking, High Speed Driving: SSP Traffic

    [ad_1]

SRINAGAR: In order to curb high-speed stunt biking and rash driving of vehicles, Traffic Police Srinagar on Monday said they have received a few ‘Speed Radar Guns’, a specialized device to assess the speed of moving vehicles.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) for City Traffic, Muzaffar Ahmad Shah while speaking to the media at his office said the department was short of the equipment to measure the speed of moving vehicles, and now they have received an inventory of a few ‘Speed Radar Guns’.

” The device would be used to crack down on high-speed stunt biking,” he said.

“We would be using the speed radar guns, which would assist us in detecting the people who drive erratically and at high speeds,” he said, adding that in the coming months, the Intelligent Traffic Management System (ITMS) is going to be activated. The installation of multiple cameras will automatically detect and minimize traffic violations, he added.

Talking about Sunday’s Parimpora incident in which a group of boys riding two-wheelers was seen allegedly harassing a family and said to be involved in stunt biking, the SSP said, “There was a swift action by the Parimpora police station, and the action will serve as an indication to those who are involved in these kinds of acts. Law is very clear about it and nobody can escape.”

Shah said the initiative on underage driving and rash driving was taken last year but the effort can only be successful if parents cooperate.

He urged parents to not allow minors to drive either four-wheelers or two-wheelers, and those who do so should make sure their children have all the required paperwork, including a driver’s license, and that they are wearing helmets when riding two-wheelers. (KNO)

  • Did Karnataka sign MoU with Foxconn or was it publicity stunt, asks Kumaraswamy

Did Karnataka sign MoU with Foxconn or was it publicity stunt, asks Kumaraswamy

    [ad_1]

Bengaluru: JD-S leader and former CM H.D. Kumaraswamy on Sunday questioned Karnataka’s ruling BJP government to clarify whether the announcement regarding Foxconn by Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai was a publicity stunt, or was an MoU actually signed.

Taking to social media, Kumaraswamy charged the BJP government with the policy of “maximum publicity and zero result policy”, saying that the government is busy with publicity ads and it does not have any care towards welfare of people, development and generation of employment.

“Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai and two other ministers took free publicity on Friday by stating that iPhone manufacturer Foxconn company from Taiwan has come to the state for investment. They held the signed letters in their hands stating the MOU had been signed and posed before the media,” he said.

The Taiwanese company, on the other hand, clarified that there were no binding or definitive agreements to invest in Karnataka. “If this is the case, what really happened in the presence of CM Bommai on Friday? Was it a publicity gimmick or agreement? They need to clarify before the people,” the JD-S leader demanded.

“There is importance attached to the foreign investments in the post-Covid phase. The government should tread cautiously. The state lost the Ola company because of its own mistakes. Rs 7,614 crore investment went to Tamil Nadu.

“The life of people is more important than elections and publicity. For the BJP government in Karnataka above all comes power and rest is not so important. There is no end to the woes of Kannadigas,” Kumaraswamy alleged.

Earlier, Chief Minister Bommai had claimed that the MOU with Foxconn is a big boost to India’s Atmanirbhar Bharat ambitions and a testimony to Karnataka’s success in drawing investments to the state in the electronics manufacturing and assembly segment.

“Hon Hai Technology Group (Foxconn) has announced a major investment in Karnataka. The 300 acres of land has been identified for this purpose near the Bengaluru International Airport, in Doddaballapura and Devanahalli taluks,” he had said.

A Foxconn team, led by CEO and Chairman Young Liu and comprising 16 senior leaders, were in Bengaluru on Friday where they were welcomed at the airport by IT and BT Minister C.N. Ashwath Narayan.

They met Large and Medium Industries Minister Dr. Murugesh R. Nirani, and Chief Secretary Vandita Sharma, before a dinner hosted by Bommai, where he and Liu were reported to have discussed Foxconn’s investment plans and Bommai assured full support for the project, as per a state government spokesman.
