    [ad_1]

SRINAGAR: Car-lifters last year stole 271 vehicles in different parts of Kashmir capital Srinagar.

Out of 271 stolen vehicles, Srinagar police managed to recover 69 stolen vehicles. The data provided by Srinagar police reveals that 202 stolen vehicles are still missing.

Police have arrested several accused in connection with vehicle theft incidents and presented challans in the court of law.

Car lifters have stolen the vehicles mostly at those places where CCTV cameras have not been installed. Police sources said that CCTV footage helps police to zero in on the thieves while in the absence of any footage, it takes time to apprehend the criminals.

Data shows that from 2020 till 2021 ending motor vehicle thefts have doubled, however, there was a slight dip in 2022.

The last three years’ data from 2020 to 2022 reveals that car lifters managed to steal 657 vehicles across Srinagar city out of which Srinagar police have recovered 199 vehicles and 458 vehicles are still missing. (KNT)

Telangana: Cops to block stolen, lost cell phones to prevent data theft

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: Telangana police personnel are now being trained to block stolen or lost mobile phones so that the data is not exploited.

The training is offered by the Department of Telecommunications, which recently launched the Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) site, via which police officers at the station level may ban stolen or lost mobile phones to avoid data theft. The CEIR is a Department of Telecommunications project.

Telangana Director General of Police Anjani Kumar met with police officers receiving training for the project on Thursday. Police officers from all 746 police stations in the state will be taught the use of CEIR, and the project will be implemented following the training.

    MS Education Academy

“A user ID and password will be assigned to each police station. After logging into the CEIR, the person in charge at the police station will be able to block the number; if the device is found, it can be simply unlocked using the software,” he explained.

The DGP further said that the nature of crime has evolved throughout time, from serious felonies such as dacoity to crimes employing technology. “These days, all crimes are related to technology. Identity theft is today’s most serious crime. With stolen data, a person can create another person with the same identity,” he explained.

Additional Director General CID Mahesh Muralidhar Bhagwat said that 60 officers ranging in rank from constables to Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSP) attended the one-day training programme on Thursday. He stated that these officers will return to their units and provide the aforementioned training to police station-level nodal officers.

  • Gold chains worth Rs 4.90 lakh stolen in Bageshwar Dham godman’s congregation

Gold chains worth Rs 4.90 lakh stolen in Bageshwar Dham godman’s congregation

    [ad_1]

Thane: In a bizarre crime spree, thieves apparently lurked freely among thousands of devotees, including women, at a 2-day spiritual congregation addressed by self-styled ‘guru’, Dhirendra Krishna Shastri at Mira Road town and targetted many women attending.

According to the Mira Road police, after the 26-year-old Shastri’s discourses ended, at least three dozen women have lodged complaints of their gold chains being stolen during the two-day congregation.

As per the complaints, the victims have lost their gold chains, mostly ‘mangalsutras’, weighing between 5 gm to 25 gms, either made in pure gold or with other metals.

The Mira Road Police have pegged the total value of the stolen booty at a staggering Rs 4,87,000!

The event of Shastri – which had sparked off a political row here – was held at the sprawling Salasar Central Park grounds, attracting more than 200,000 devotees, including a large number of women.

At one point, due to poor management, it led to a near-stampede on Saturday in which one woman devotee was injured after which the local police had started security checks and crowd control at the entry points to the venue.

Many women had been lured by Shastri’s purported “miracles” and “healing powers”, and had come in hopes of some cure, but some returned not only disappointed but minus their gold chains/mangalsutras, said an official.

The organisers, the Shantaben Mithalal Jain Charitable Trust, had invited Shastri – the head priest of Bagesgwar Dham in Madhya Pradesh’s Chhatarpur – for the event even as some rationalist groups had opposed it and written to police not to grant permission.

Besieged with so many complaints, the Mira Road Police have lodged a common FIR for the first three dozen women victims, and are scanning the CCTV footage of the venue to identify the chain-snatchers in the huge crowds and catch the culprits.

Cyber Police Organizes Awareness Programme in Srinagar; Over 100 Stolen Mobile-phones Handed Over To Rightful Owners

    [ad_1]

    Rehan Qayoom Mir

Srinagar, Mar 11 (GNS): As the world becomes increasingly digitized, the threat of cybercrime looms larger than ever before and in an effort to educate and inform the public about the dangers of Cybercrime, the Cyber police in Srinagar organized a special cyber awareness program under the supervision of SP Cyber Ifhtikar Talib at the Cyber Police Station here on Saturday.

The program was designed to provide attendees with a comprehensive understanding of various types of cybercrime, including phishing, identity theft, and online fraud.

As the event drew to a close, participants expressed their gratitude to the police for organizing such an informative and impactful program. Many pledged to take the lessons learned at the event and apply them in their daily lives, helping to create a safer and more secure digital landscape for all.

Talking to media on the sidelines of the Cyber Awareness Program, SP Cyber Police Kashmir, as per GNS, said, they celebrated Thana Divas at the Cyber Police Station, just like they do every year at every police station across the country.

“This day is dedicated to honoring the hard work and dedication of the police force who work tirelessly to ensure the safety and security of our society”, he said.

“During the event, we returned more than 100 mobile-phones that we had recovered over the past few months. It was a proud moment for us to see the smile on people’s faces when they received their lost phones back,” he said, adding that this also shows the efficiency and commitment of our police force in tracking down stolen or lost items and returning them to their rightful owners.

“However, the primary objective behind this Thana Divas event was to raise awareness among people about the dangers of cybercrime, with the increasing use of technology in our daily lives, the risk of falling victim to cybercrime has become more significant than ever before”, he said adding “We want to ensure that people are aware of the potential threats and are equipped with the knowledge and skills to protect themselves from such threats.

“For this purpose, we had organized various awareness programs throughout the day, which included interactive sessions and workshops on cybersecurity. We also had experts and professionals from the industry who shared their experiences and insights on how to stay safe in the online world,” he added.

“Overall, the Thana Divas event was a great success, and we hope that it will have a positive impact on society and people will be more aware and cautious when it comes to cybersecurity”, he further said. (GNS)

  • Trump 2020 lawyer admits misrepresenting stolen election claims

Trump 2020 lawyer admits misrepresenting stolen election claims

    [ad_1]

    georgia election investigation 34468

Ellis is the latest Trump attorney involved in the former president’s post-election efforts to face discipline. Rudy Giuliani had his license temporarily suspended and is awaiting a final ruling from a bar discipline proceeding in Washington, D.C. John Eastman is preparing for disciplinary proceedings in California. And Jeffrey Clark has temporarily delayed bar discipline proceedings against him in Washington while attempting to bring the fight into federal court.

But Ellis is the first attorney of the group to acknowledge she misrepresented the evidence of fraud. Among her admitted misrepresentations:

    — Ellis claimed on Nov. 13, 2020 that Hillary Clinton didn’t concede the 2016 election.

    — On Nov 20, 2020, Ellis claimed Trump’s team had evidence of a “coordinated effort in all of these states to transfer votes either from Trump to Biden, to manipulate the ballots, to count them in secret.”

    — On Nov. 30, 2020, Ellis said on Fox that Trump “won in a landslide.”

    — On Dec. 5, 2020, Ellis claimed the Trump team found 500,000 illegal votes had been cast in Arizona.

Both Ellis’ attorney and the disciplinary attorneys bringing the case against her agreed that there was no precedent for the case against Ellis — an effort to aid a sitting president’s bid to undermine confidence in the American election system.

Large noted that Ellis wasn’t Trump’s counsel of record in any lawsuits challenging the election. But he also noted that Ellis admitted her actions violated “her duty of candor to the public.”

“The parties agree that two aggravators apply — [Ellis] had a selfish motive and she engaged in a pattern of misconduct — while one factor, her lack of prior discipline, mitigates her misconduct,” Large determined.

  • Source codes of League of Legends, TFT stolen after cyber attack: Riot Games

Source codes of League of Legends, TFT stolen after cyber attack: Riot Games

    [ad_1]

San Francisco: Video game developer Riot Games said that the source codes for its popular video games ‘League of Legends’ and ‘Teamfight Tactics’, or TFT, were stolen in a recent cyber attack, alongside the code for one of its anti-cheat platforms.

“Over the weekend, our analysis confirmed source code for League, TFT, and a legacy anticheat platform were exfiltrated by the attackers,” the company tweeted.

Earlier this week, Riot disclosed the breach as a “social engineering attack” on Twitter, assuring players that an update would be provided after an investigation.

The video game developer also received a ransom email from attackers, which the company says it won’t pay.

Moreover, the company assured that no player data or personal information was compromised, but acknowledges that the source code obtained by the attacker could result in new cheats.

“While this attack disrupted our build environment and could cause issues in the future, most importantly we remain confident that no player data or player personal information was compromised,” tweeted Riot Games.

“Truthfully, any exposure of source code can increase the likelihood of new cheats emerging. Since the attack, we’ve been working to assess its impact on anticheat and to be prepared to deploy fixes as quickly as possible if needed,” it added.

The company further mentioned that “it will release a full report in the future detailing the attackers’ techniques, the areas where Riot’s security controls failed, and the steps we’re taking to ensure this doesn’t happen again”.
