  • As delivery staff stress levels reach worrying highs, food delivery apps start acting

As delivery staff stress levels reach worrying highs, food delivery apps start acting

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: Ajay (name changed), working as a delivery boy of a popular online-delivery platform, was rushing to deliver his order, but got stuck in peak-hour traffic and thus was late to deliver his order. He called up the customer to inform his situation.

Instead of being empathic, the customer called up his company to complain. Soon enough Ajay lost his job.

Hamid (name changed) accidentally pressed the doorbell of a house, he was abused. The list is endless.

In the world of instant delivery, every other day we hear stories where delivery boys are beaten, abused or assaulted. Often they have to traverse in the harsh sun, wind and rain; face longer hours of work and traffic snarls.

“There has been a consistent growth in consumer confidence for ordering online, steered by tech-led delivery networks. This, in turn, has unlocked the long-term potential of ready-to-eat food delivery,” Prabhu Ram, Head, Industry Intelligence Group, CMR, told IANS.

“For food delivery startups seeking to attain sustainable and long-term market leadership, this market opportunity requires them to deliver not just on the instantaneous consumer delight, but rather the employee experience as well,” he added.

Owing to their tough workstyle, delivery boys often face a lot of stress, which can affect their mental health.

“Uncertainties of day to day life, life risks, long time periods, financial stress. It certainly impacts mental health. As a result they may engage in unhealthy coping mechanisms like consuming substances or other desperate measures to manage stress,” Mimansa Singh Tanwar, Clinical Psychologist, at Fortis Hospital, told IANS.

“To maintain positive mental health for them, it is important to improve the manager employee relationship where they practise values of empathy, integrity, gratitude and positive encouragement towards them,” she added.

Tanwar suggested that the delivery boys should be incorporated in the employee wellness programmes, and since there is also a connection between money and mental health, financial aids should also be there to support them.

Delivery boys should “focus on what they can control and engage in healthy stress mechanisms like building good support systems through positive family and peer relationships, and avoid engaging in unhealthy consumption of substances,” she noted.

In the movie ‘Zwigato’, helmed by Nandita Das, ace comedian and actor Kapil Sharma plays the role of a delivery boy, and showcases their struggles. Kapil shared that the character made him realise how tough life is for delivery boys, and that he has become more empathetic towards them.

“This movie made me realise the challenges that delivery boys face on a daily basis, and I have learned to appreciate their hard work and dedication even more. I am not saying tip them, but I am just saying that we can at least say a thank you with respect and that will make them happy,” Kapil said.

Meanwhile, several food companies have started several initiatives for its workers. Food delivery platform Zomato recently launched ‘the Shelter Project’ under which the company has set up public resting points where delivery persons can take a break from their exhausting routine and use amenities like the washroom, internet, and phone-charging stations.

In August 2020, Zomato also introduced period leaves of 10 days in a year for its women employees (including transgender people).

Swiggy has rolled out ambulance service for delivery executives and their dependents in the case of emergencies.

  • A sustainable start to Lakme Fashion Week x FDCI 2023

A sustainable start to Lakme Fashion Week x FDCI 2023

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: Summer is here and we’re ready to witness what’s trending on the fashion front this season. Lakme Fashion Week 2023 in partnership with the Fashion Design Council of India kickstarted on March 9 at the Jio World Garden in Mumbai. Over the past few years, there’s been so much conversation around sustainability — it’s gone mainstream and it’s here to stay for all the right reasons. Here are the highlights from Day 1 which was dedicated to all things eco-fashion.

    A befitting platform:

INIFD (Inter National Institute of Fashion Design) Gen Next 2023 winners KoAi, KoyToy, Hiro and Rudrakash Dwivedi presented their respective collections. While KoAi focussed on easy prints and airy silhouettes, KoyToy opted for bright colours and cool motifs. Dwidevi’s collection, “Scintilla” consisted of striking ensembles made from metallic trimmings. Hiro’s clothes that took inspiration from the post-apocalyptic world, were all about smart layering combined with interesting techniques such as stone washing, ruching and smocking.

    S for sustainable saris:

Known for her beautiful handwoven saris, designer Anavila Misra presented her collection, “Dabu”. More than 10 years in the business, Misra has created her own version of the classic drape — modern, light and authentic. With this collection, the designer has worked around block printing, vegetable dyeing and muted tones. It was the styling and the raw draping that enhanced the overall look.

    Cool casuals:

Delhi-based label Doodleage presented their collection of chic separates made from recycled materials and upcycled wastes. Inspired by nostalgia, the garments represented the 90s vibe with floral prints, solid colours and denims. Another brand that is perfect for casual outings is Bodice by Ruchika Sachdeva. Her collection of pleated shirt dresses, flared trousers and asymmetrical tops make for perfect day-to-night outfits.

Actress Rakul Preet Singh turned showstopper for designer Shruti Sancheti dressed in a cool Khadico-ord set. The versatile jackets and flowy kurtas from her summer line, “Khadder” are pieces to look out for. Actor Vijay Varma walked for Divyam Mehta and model-turned-actress Neha Dhupia turned muse for the INIFD launchpad. Some other celebrities spotted were Sonali Bendre, Konkana Sen Sharma and Mandira Bedi.

  • JK First In India To Start PSGA Auto-Appeal  For Online Services

JK First In India To Start PSGA Auto-Appeal  For Online Services

    [ad_1]

SRINAGAR:  Chief Secretary, Dr Arun Kumar Mehta launched the Public Services Guarantee Act (PSGA) auto-appeal feature of few online services offered by Government Departments on Saturday.   The feature is going to auto escalate the appeals in case the services are not provided to the applicant with the time limit set under the Public Services Guarantee Act (PSGA).

Calling the step revolutionary, Dr Mehta applauded the IT department for integrating this feature in the digital services offered by different departments to the citizens.

With this move the UT of Jammu and Kashmir became the first in the country to integrate the auto-appeal feature to Service Plus platform.

Dr Mehta urged the department to work for activating this feature for all the 445 services offered by the government to its citizens at an earliest and told them to prioritize those services that form the bulk of the applications.

He advised for making the auto-appeal feature active for services related to the everyday life of the citizens like seeking of power/water connections, availing of documents like income, domicile, category, birth, death certificates and benefits like old age, widow pensions besides scholarships under various social security schemes etc.

He observed that this feature would act as a turning point in maintaining the transparency and accountability in services to the public. He maintained that this attribute in online services is going to be the landmark in eradicating corruption and malpractices.

Auto appeal is going to bring a greater transparency in these services in future as  it would ensure their delivery as per the timeframe set for them under PSGA and fixing of responsibility on part of any officer/official for any undue delay.

It was evident from the reports generated on service portal e-UNNAT (Jan sugam) that more than 90% of services are being delivered to public within stipulated time.

Moreover, the rejection rate of applications is very low at around 5% only with provision of giving feedback by the applicants through Rapid Assessment System (RAS) about their satisfaction level while availing such services.

The data also corroborates this change in the nature of offering and delivering government services to the citizens of the UT. The data shows that some 7,89,008 certificates have been delivered to public in the time frame set under Public Services Guarantee Act (PSGA).

  • Property Tax: Municipalities start passing resolutions to adopt decision, says Div Com V K Bidhuri

    [ad_1]

Srinagar, Mar 01: Days after the government announced levying of property tax in Jammu & Kashmir, the administration on Wednesday said that the Municipal Corporations and Committees have started passing the resolution to adopt the decision and that the transparency system in the Union territory has no comparison with rest of the country.

In an exclusive chat with the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, V K Bidhuri, said that the Municipal Corporations and committees require resources to run the affairs, but presently these corporations and committees are generating only 10-15 per cent of the revenue and are dependant for rest of the resources. To ensure better facilities, every municipality requires resources and property tax is the best decision to generate revenue for the wellbeing of the people,” he said.

He added that J&K is the last in the country where the property tax has been imposed, but the government decided to go with a minimum tax. “The rural areas are already out while in Urban areas, Agricultural land and other falling under master plan are also exempted,” he said while appealing people not to pay heed over the sayings, but they should calculate on their own.

“Tax is not being imposed on any individual but it is being levied on a property and people having property on less than 1000 sq ft are already exempted,” he said while replying to a query.

He further said that out of total 5.20 lakh residential houses, 40% among them have been exempted as the properties have come up on less than 1000 sq ft. “The tax amount is different in different areas and districts and is being decided as per the circle rate,” he said.

He also said that after the decision was taken in this regard; the municipalities have started passing the resolution to adopt the decision.

He added that the tax amount will be used only for the developmental purpose in the respective municipalities. He added that the tax will have to remain the same for three years and will be reviewed after three years as per the circle rate.

The property tax will ensure resources for the development and better facilities to the people and will also bring a sense of ownership among them, he told KNO.

He added that there is a transparency system in J&K and there is no comparison with J&K’s transparency system with any part of the country. “The transparency system in J&K cannot be found anywhere in the country where even the photos of developmental works are being uploaded,” he said.

Asked about a complete shift to online mode, the Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, said that the process has already been done and every work is being done through online mode now.

About the smart city project works, he said that the deadline has been squeezed to April and the works are going on at a rapid pace during day as well as night. “The people will face inconvenience, but the works will be completed on April 15 while carpeting and other related things will be done by April 30th,” he said.

Asked about the encroachment drive, he said that retrieving encroached land is their regular activity and the government is responsible for it. “We are duty bound to carry out our encroachment drive for the people. We are re-strategizing it at present, but the poor will not be touched,” he said.

Asked about the completion of installation of smart meters across Kashmir, he said that the process will be completed in net two years—(KNO)

Start direct international flights to US, Canada from Punjab, says minister

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: Punjab NRIs Affairs Minister Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal on Wednesday demanded to include both the Amritsar and Shaheed Bhagat Singh International Airport in Mohali for direct flights to Canada and the US.

He said the commencement of the direct flights would ensure great facility to a large number of travellers for both sides.

Calling on Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya M. Scindia here, Dhaliwal apprised him that large number of Punjabis and Overseas Citizenship of India (OCI) card holders had been living in Canada and the US since long, and that during the NRI sammelan organised by the Punjab government in December last, these NRIs sought commencement of these flights.

The state minister said there has been a persistent demand for providing direct air connectivity between Amritsar and Canada. Citing that it is of utmost significant to make direct flights operational from Amritsar to Canadian cities, the minister said presently travellers both from Amritsar and Canadian cities are hugely inconvenienced, as they have to travel to or from New Delhi or other cities in India to reach their destinations.
