Mumbai: Renowned Turkish star Burak Deniz is currently in India and he has been making the best use of his time exploring the nation’s culture. And of course, as he is in the entertainment hub, he also added Bollywood tadka to his trip.
On Thursday, Burak attended the 23rd edition of FICCI Frames in Mumbai, where he met veteran actor Anil Kapoor and Aditya Roy Kapur.
Sharing a picture of hugging Anil Kapoor, Burak took to Instagram Story and wrote, ” Thank you (smiley emoji).”

Burak looked handsome in a white shirt that he paired with white trousers and white sneakers.
In another story, he dropped a video of him listening to Aamir Khan and Salman Khan’s famous song ‘Ye Raat Aur Ye Doori’ from the cult film ‘ Andaz Apna Apna’.
The particular video went viral, garnering loads of likes and comments from netizens.

Kenneth Branagh to direct and star in King Lear in London and New York

Kenneth Branagh is to star as King Lear in a production that he will also direct in London and New York.
The play will run for 50 performances at Wyndham’s theatre in the West End from October and then transfer to the Shed’s Griffin theatre in the US in autumn 2024.
It is produced by the Kenneth Branagh Theatre Company (KBTC) which presented a season of seven plays at the Garrick theatre in London from 2015-16 including John Osborne’s The Entertainer with Branagh in the lead role. In 2017, Branagh directed Tom Hiddleston as Hamlet in a limited-run production to raise funds for Rada. In 2021, KTBC’s planned production of The Browning Version by Terence Rattigan, starring and directed by Branagh, was cancelled due to Covid-related absences during rehearsals.
Branagh, who played Edgar opposite Richard Briers’ Lear in a 1990 touring production of Shakespeare’s tragedy, said in a 2019 interview that King Lear has a “sense of contained outrage by previously voiceless people” that remains pertinent in the modern political climate. The play, he added, explores a “tremendous lack of forgiveness … that is perhaps also something that our world is experiencing – a savage and judgmental and instant and violent division”.
It is the second star-powered, transatlantic Shakespearean production announced this week. Ralph Fiennes and Indira Varma will perform in a new version of Macbeth, staged by director Simon Godwin in warehouses in Liverpool, Edinburgh, London and Washington DC.
The full cast for King Lear, presented by Fiery Angel and the Shed, is yet to be announced. Tickets for the London run – which previews from 21 October and has an official opening night on 31 October – will go on sale on 5 June.

Never Mind Tucker Carlson’s Departure, Fox Is the Star

Roger Ailes, the original architect of Fox, who founded the network in 1996 with Murdoch, explained its show-making philosophy to Andrew Ferguson of the Weekly Standard in 2017. The subject was the early evening news-talk program, The Five, which in recent months has outperformed even Carlson’s show. Ailes explained how he filled the slot vacated by solo artist Beck with an ensemble of pundits — building a sort of Archies talk show for the Fox audience. The Five would be performed by five commentators at 5 p.m. Get it?
“Go around the table,” Ailes told Ferguson. “Over on this end, we’ve got the bombshell in a skirt, drop-dead gorgeous. … But smart! She’s got to be smart, or it doesn’t work.” Next, he said, “We have a gruff longshoreman type, salty but not too salty for TV. In the middle there’s the handsome matinee idol. Next to him we have the Salvation Army girl, cute and innocent —but you get the idea she might be a lotta fun after a few pops. On the end, we need a wiseguy, the cut-up.”
When Ailes finally cast the show with his types, Ferguson writes, he summoned them to his office and had them stand in a semi-circle around his desk to explain why he was calling the show The Five. “‘I’m calling it The Five because you are types, not people. You all are about to become very famous, and you’re going to make a lotta money. A lotta money. But don’t ever forget. Right behind you I’ve got somebody exactly like you ready to take your place. So don’t fuck up.”
The brilliance of Ailes’ insight that everybody is replaceable by design faded into cheap irony in 2016 when he, too, was forced to walk the plank over sexual harassment charges. Ailes learned he was as replaceable as any featured player on The Five as Rupert Murdoch, the ultimate TV news impresario, installed a new network boss and the ratings gravy continued to flow.
Finding a Carlson substitute will be as easy for Fox as it was finding an O’Reilly substitute. There’s always an understudy or two at Fox who has learned the art of demagoguery — how to pander to the stolen election liars, incite white nationalists and make long-distance love to Vladimir Putin. Ensconced in the 8 p.m. slot that was Carlson’s and O’Reilly’s before that, the new host will succeed enough to imagine having become a star, too, until the light dims and the Murdoch’s network births yet another star.

Glenn Beck
Glenn Beck left his daily show on Fox News in 2011 after a little more than two years as a host. Beck’s show premiered the day after President Barack Obama’s inauguration, and — like Carlson’s — its run was marked by the host’s high ratings, controversial commentary and conspiracy theories. One of Beck’s more infamous moments was when he said that Obama had “a deep-seated hatred of white people.” Unlike Carlson, Beck’s departure was highly anticipated after the relationship between Beck’s company, Mercury Radio Arts, and Fox News grew increasingly tense leading up to the announcement.
Bill O’Reilly
Once the star of Fox News’ prime-time lineup, O’Reilly was forced out in 2017 after more than two decades with the network following allegations of sexual harassment that led advertisers to abandon his show. A New York Times report revealed that O’Reilly and Fox News had settled several sexual harassment claims, paying a combined $13 million to women who said O’Reilly had harassed them. Though O’Reilly denied the claims, Carlson took over his 8 p.m. slot after advertisers began boycotting the show.
Roger Ailes
Former Chairman and CEO of Fox News Channel Roger Ailes stepped aside in 2016 in the wake of a high-profile sexual harassment suit by a former Fox News anchor, Gretchen Carlson. Other female employees came forward following Carlson’s suit, leading Fox News to hire an outside law firm to investigate the claims. Ailes, who denied the allegations, stepped aside before that investigation was complete, leaving the network with a $40 million payout. Ailes founded the channel in 1996 with funding from Rupert Murdoch. He died in 2017 at the age of 77.
Ed Henry
Ed Henry, once Fox News’ chief White House correspondent and later a co-anchor of the weekday news program “America’s Newsroom, was fired in 2020 after allegations of “willful sexual misconduct” leveled by another Fox News employee.
Eric Bolling
In 2017, Fox News host and contributor Eric Bolling departed the network “amicably,” while he was under investigation for sexual harassment. Bolling, who hosted a short-lived afternoon talk show, “The Specialists,” was suspended from the network following a report by The Huffington Post that he had in previous years sent unsolicited lewd photos to two co-workers. Bolling denied the allegations, and sued the reporter who broke the story for defamation.

Jawan also stars Vijay Sethupathi, Nayanthara, Sanya Malhotra, and Priyamani, in addition to SRK and Allu Arjun.

BJP slams Cong for appointing ‘anti-national’ Imran Pratapgarhi as star campaigner

Bengaluru: Union Minister Shobha Karandlaje on Thursday took strong exception to the inclusion of Rajya Sabha member Imran Pratapgarhi in the list of 40 star campaigners of the Congress for the upcoming Karnataka Assembly elections, calling him an “anti-national”.
The Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare and BJP’s Karnataka Election Management Committee Convener also sought to know the “connection” between Congress and slain gangster-politician Atiq Ahmed, who was recently shot dead in Uttar Pradesh.
“The person who should have been arrested for standing in support of Atiq, has become the star campaigner. What is the relation between Atiq Ahmed and Congress?” the minister sought to know.

She alleged that Pratapgarhi is a close friend of Ahmed and used to call the latter as his “guru” and brother. The MP used to write poetry in praise of Ahmed, who used to take part in ‘mushairas’ (a gathering at which Urdu poetry is read), Karandlaje said.
“Despite knowing that Imran Pratapgarhi was involved in ‘anti-national activities’, you (Congress) send him to the Rajya Sabha and appoint him as Karnataka’s star campaigner,” she said, lashing out at the opposition party, which released its list of star campaigners on Wednesday.
The ruling BJP is fighting the Assembly polls against its principal rival Congress while the JD(S) is also an important player in the state.
Karnataka will vote in a single phase on May 10 and the results are scheduled to be out on May 13.

Karnataka polls: Jagadish Shettar, Sonia, Tharoor in Cong’s star campaigners’ list

New Delhi: Former Karnataka Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar, who joined the Congress this week after quitting the BJP, figures in the Congress’ list of star campaigners for the Karnataka Assembly polls that also includes party chief Mallikarjun Kharge, Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and Shashi Tharoor.
The Congress on Wednesday released a list of 40 leaders who would be the party’s star campaigners for the May 10 assembly elections.
Interestingly, Shettar, who crossed over to the Congress a couple of days ago and has been given the party ticket from the Hubli-Dharwad-Central Assembly segment that he currently represents, has been included in the list.

A staunch RSS man, Shettar was part of the Jan Sangh and BJP for several decades before severing his ties with the party upon his candidature being overlooked for the May 10 election and joined Congress on Monday.
The Congress’ list of star campaigners has many stalwarts from Karnataka such as former chief minister Siddaramaiah, Karnataka Congress chief D K Shivakumar, Jairam Ramesh, M Veerappa Moily, M B Patil, G Parameshwara, K H Muniyappa and BK Hariprasad.
Others include Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, his Chhattisgarh counterpart Bhupesh Baghel, Himachal Pradesh CM Sukhwinder Singh Sukku, AICC in-charge of Karnataka Randeep Surjewala, senior party leaders Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, K C Venugopal, P Chidambaram, Prithviraj Chavan and Ashok Chavan.
Sachin Pilot, who was on the list of star campaigners for the 2018 Karnataka polls, does not figure on the list this time.
Ramalinga Reddy, Satish Jarkiholi, D K Suresh, G C Chandrashekhar, Syed Naseer Hussain, Zameer Ahmed Khan, H M Revanna, Umashree, Revanth Reddy, Ramesh Chennithala, Srinivas B V, Raj Babbar, Mohammed Azharuddin, Divya Spandana, Imran Pratapgarhi, Kanhaiya Kumar, Rupa Shashidhar and Sadhukokila are also on the list.

The assembly polls will be held on May 10 and the results will be announced on May 13. The Congress is seeking to oust the BJP from power in the southern state.
