PTR audio issue: Stalin refutes to wade into ‘cheap politics’

    [ad_1]

Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin on Tuesday dismissed as “cheap politics” the PTR audio files, in which the state finance minister is purported to have made some remarks about the assets of the DMK’s first family.

In his first response to the issue, Stalin, president of the ruling DMK, said Palanivel Thiaga Rajan (PTR) has already responded to the matter twice.

“He (PTR) himself has given two detailed explanations on this matter. I have time only to do my duty for people. I do not want to talk anything further on this and give publicity to those indulging in cheap politics,” Stalin said in his regular “Ungalil Oruvan” question and answer series.

In two audio clips released by state BJP chief K Annamalai, PTR is purported to have made some remarks about Stalin’s son Udhayanidhi and son-in-law V Sabareesan, which the finance minister has categorically denied.

He had insisted that they were digitally altered material using advanced technology.

To a question on Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s recent remarks in Telangana that Muslim reservation will be done away with if the party came to power there, the DMK chief said it showed “a grudge on minorities.”

“He has spoken so for electoral gains. The BJP leadership has an imagination that only spewing hatred on Muslims will satisfy Hindus. It is not true. The majority of our electorate that did not vote for BJP are actually Hindus. They wish for peace and brotherhood. The BJP attempts to impose its hate agenda on some sections and project it as the sentiments of the majority,” he alleged.

He charged the BJP’s “social media troll army accounts” act as the propaganda machine to spread lies and fake news and also claimed certain media organisations “have turned to be the mouthpiece of ” the saffron party.

“The BJP pushes its hate politics with the help of such factors. In a country that has secularism in the preamble of its Constitution, the home minister speaking like this is a breach of Constitution. People are watching everything,” he added.

TN: Stalin moves resolution to bring Dalit Christians under Scheduled Castes

    [ad_1]

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin introduced a motion in the Assembly on Wednesday seeking to include Dalit Christians into the purview of the Scheduled Castes (SC) quota, stating that doing so will allow them to benefit from social justice in all aspects.

“This august House urges the Government of India to make necessary amendments to the Constitution to extend statutory protection, rights and concessions including reservation as provided to the people belonging to Scheduled Castes under the Indian Constitution, also to the Scheduled Castes who have converted to Christianity, so as to enable them to avail the benefits of social justice in all aspects,” the resolution moved by Stalin read, reported Deccan Herald.

The resolution comes at a time when the Union Government is opposed to granting quota privileges to Dalits who have converted to Christianity or Islam.

In December 2022, the Centre informed the Supreme Court that it was unwilling to execute the recommendations of the Justice Ranganath Misra Commission for Religious and Linguistic Minorities that Dalits who converted to Christianity and Islam be granted quota.

The Centre has also formed a commission to investigate the subject, led by former Chief Justice of India Justice K G Balakrishnan. While Dalits who are Buddhists or Sikhs are eligible for SC reservation advantages, those who converted to Christianity or Islam are not.

TN CM Stalin welcomes Centre’s decision to hold CAPF exams in state languages

    [ad_1]

Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin on Saturday said he ‘wholeheartedly’ welcomed the decision by the Ministry of Home Affairs to conduct the examinations for recruitment of constables in the Central Armed Police Force in state languages.

He reiterated his demand to provide question papers in Tamil and other state languages in all union government examinations.

“As a result of my letter to (Union Home Minister) Amit Shah, the Union Government has announced that it would conduct the CAPF exams in all state languages,” Stalin said on micro-blogging site on Saturday.

    MS Education Academy

“I wholeheartedly welcome this decision and reiterate our demand to provide question papers in Tamil and other state languages in all Union government exams,” he said.

Earlier in the day, the Home Ministry approved the conduct of constable (general duty) examination for CAPF in 13 regional languages, in addition to Hindi and English.

Last week, Stalin had shot off a letter to Shah stating that the Ministry’s decision to hold the examinations in English and Hindi amounts to ‘blatant discrimination’ and denies equality of opportunity to non-hindi speaking states.

The chief minister had urged the Home Minister to immediately revise the notification to include Tamil and other state languages.

  • No history of anyone from north winning in TN: Udayanidhi Stalin

No history of anyone from north winning in TN: Udayanidhi Stalin

    [ad_1]

Chennai: Tamil Nadu Youth Welfare and Sports Development Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin took a dig at the BJP on Tuesday saying no politician from the north had managed to win in the State as the DMK team was very strong on its home turf.

There was no history of those from the north winning in Tamil Nadu because of the “speciality of the State and its people”, he said. “Even now some are thinking of winning in Tamil Nadu and are making attempts in that direction. Their game may work in any other State but not in Tamil Nadu where the DMK is a very strong force,” Udhayanidhi, who is the son of Chief Minister M K Stalin, said.

Winding up the debate on the demand for grants for his department in the Assembly, Udhayanidhi said the DMK as a team had been nurtured to play well by its “coaches” such as the rationalist Periyar Ramasamy, late Chief Ministers C N Annadurai and M Karunanidhi and party leader K Anbazhagan.

    MS Education Academy

“They taught us how to be united and play as a team and also when to be defensive. Our Chief Minister M K Stalin hit the ball for six, twice, in making the Governor give his assent to the online gambling ban bill and also in making the Centre withdraw auctioning of the lignite reserves in the State,” Udhayanidhi, who was elevated as a minister in December last year, said.

Turning towards the AIADMK, the minister referred to its legislator S P Velumani earlier requesting for tickets for MLAs to watch the IPL match, and asked him to approach Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s son Jay Shah, who is the secretary of Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI).

“AIADMK whip (Velumani) has sought tickets to watch the IPL at Chepauk. But no IPL match took place in the last four years. Recently, I had arranged tickets at my own expense for 150 enthusiasts to watch cricket at the stadium,” Udhayanidhi said and added that IPL was being organised by BCCI which is headed by Jay Shah.

“He will listen to you. You can get 5 tickets for each MLA and we are prepared to pay for it,” the minister said.

The minister then went on to make a slew of announcements in the Assembly pertaining to his Youth Welfare and Sports Development portfolio.

In his maiden reply to the discussion, he said a new Tamil Nadu Sports Policy would be unveiled for the overall development of sports in the State and steps would be taken to set up Tamil Nadu’s first Olympic Water Sports Academy in Ramanathapuram district.

Apart from establishing a 6-trap range shooting academy for trap and skeet in the State, the government would set up Namma Ooru Vilayattu Thidal (our playgrounds) in all panchayats in association with the rural development and school education departments, to create awareness among youth on sports.

The Arignar Anna Marathon will be organised annually in all districts. About Rs 150 lakh will be allocated to conduct the World Cup Squash Championship this year and another Rs 258 lakh would be provided to hold the World Surfing League at Mahabalipuram.

Establishing para sports arena, besides the Tamil Nadu Centre for Sports Science at a cost of Rs 300 lakh, and setting up of open and indoor stadiums at a cost of Rs 90 crore in the six newly created districts were among the other important announcements made by the minister.
