Telangana: BRS stages Maha Dharna against auction of Singareni mines

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) on Saturday organised a ‘Maha Dhama’ to protest against the Centre’s decision to auction Singareni Collienes Company Limited (SCCL) coal mines during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the city on Saturday.

BRS party working president and IT minister KT Rama Rao (KTR) took to Twitter to share a news report of the central government removing four Tamil Nadu coal blocks from the auction list following strong objections in the state. He said that the BRS is demanding the same reaction from the union government.

KTR alleged that the BJP is discriminating against Telangana in comparison with other states.

Welfare Minister Koppula Eashwar, MLA Korukanti Chander and other leaders took forward the Maha Dhama in Godavarikhani chowk.

Eashwar said that the Union government is “selling” Indian Airlines, ports, Life Insurance Corporation (LIC), Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) and other public sector units to PM Modi’s “frends” Adani and Ambani. “On similar lines, Singareni, which is running in profits, will be privatised and the employees will lose their jobs because of the lack of mines”

Panchayatraj minister Errabelli Dayakar Rao and ST Welfare Satyavathi Rathod participated in the Maha Dharna in Jayashankar Bhupalpally.

Forest minister Allola Indrakaran Reddy, MLA N Diwakar Rao and other party leaders were present at the protest staged at Naspur mandal centre. BRS whip Balka Suman demanded the centre abandon its plans to auction the Satthupalli, Shravanapalli and Penugadapalli coal blocks.

Speaking at the protest, Suman dubbed the auction of coal blocks as “a conspiracy” to wreck the economical condition of Telangana and warned that failure in stopping the auction will lead to a boycott of BJP leaders from the coal belt area.

Transport minister Puvvada Ajay Kumar, MP Vaddiraju Ravichandra, MLAs Vanama Venkateshwar Rao, and K Upender Reddy continued the Maha Dhama in Kothagudem.

Talking about the Maha Dharna, the BJP MLA Eatala Rajender held that the state government was responsible for the debts incurred by Singereni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL).

After the amendment of the Mines and Minerals Regulation Act in 2015 that gave leverage to the Telangana government to get coal blocks allocated through Coal India, it failed to apply and secure even one of the four coal blocks directly under its control since 2017,” said Eatala.

Rajender further alleged that the BRS willfully made the Singareni write to the Centre that mining the Tadicherla block wasn’t feasible. “Genco was allocated the Tadicherla coal block, and it requested Singareni to do the mining. But Singareni was asked to submit that it wasn’t viable,” said Eatala.

Congress stages protests against Kailash Vijayvargiya for ‘Shurpanakha’ remarks

    [ad_1]

Bhopal: The Congress in Madhya Pradesh on Saturday staged protests against senior BJP leader Kailash Vijayvargiya over his “girls look like ‘Shurpanakha’ in bad clothes” remark and demanded his apology for “insulting” women.

In Indore city, the women’s cell of Congress held a demonstration in Rajwara area and tried to set afire the effigy of Vijayvargiya saying he had scant respect for women.

In Bhopal, women workers of the opposition party protested in front of the bungalow of Vijayvargiya’s MLA son Aakash Vijayvargiya holding flowers, called “Beshram ke phool” in Hindi.

MP Congress media department’s vice president Sangeeta Sharma told PTI the party will wait for two-three days for the Vijayvargiya senior to apologise, and if he fails to do so, a complaint will be lodged with the police in Indore.

Kailash Vijayvargiya, a BJP general secretary, had said, “When I leave for home at night, I see educated young people and children under the influence of drugs….I feel like getting down (from the car) and slapping them five to seven times to sober them up”.

A video of the religious program where the BJP leader passed the controversial remarks on Thursday went viral a day later.

“We see the goddess in women. But (with) the kind of bad dresses the girls wear and move around, they do not embody the goddess but look like ‘Shurpanakha’. God has given you a good and beautiful body…..dress well, friends,” he had said.

In the popular version of the Ramayana, Shurpanakha is the sister of the demon king Ravan.

Cong in MP stages protest over Rahul’s disqualification from LS

    [ad_1]

Bhopal: Enraged over Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s disqualification from the Lok Sabha following his conviction in a defamation case, party members in Madhya Pradesh staged a massive protest on Friday.

The Congress workers across Madhya Pradesh, holding party’s flags, took out rallies on roads, blocked traffic and raised slogans against the BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Hundreds of NSUI workers reached Rani Kamalapati Railway Station in Bhopal and blocked a couple of trains. However, railway officials later jumped into action and train services were started after disruption of around an hour.

The protest was not limited to the state capital Bhopal only. As per reports, Congress workers across Madhya Pradesh marched on roads holding ‘mashals’ (torches) in their hands and shouting slogans against Prime Minister Modi.

In Gwalior, youth Congress workers burnt the effigy of the BJP and blocked vehicular movements at several junctions in the city.

Similarly, in Rewa, hundreds of party workers holding ‘mashals’ marched on the road in support of their leader, Rahul Gandhi.

Reacting to the matter, former chief minister and Madhya Pradesh unit Congress chief Kamal Nath criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi, stating “the BJP government has crossed all limits in hatching a conspiracy”.

“The way his (Rahul Gandhi) Lok Sabha membership has been cancelled, it is clear that the Modi government is scared of Rahul Gandhi. Instead of answering the questions raised by him, the government was looking for a way to remove him from the Lok Sabha. Today is a day of great sadness and pain for Indian democracy,” Kamal Nath said.

“Today, the people of India stand with Rahul Gandhi stronger than ever before. Justice will be done,” he added.

Congress stages protest in Hyderabad over Surat court’s verdict against Rahul

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: Congress staged a silent protest in Hyderabad against the Surat court sentencing Rahul Gandhi to two years imprisonment in a defamation case over his ‘Modi surname’ remark made in 2019.

Senior leaders of Telangana Congress, Youth Congress, National Students Union of India and party’s Mahila Morcha staged silent protest in front of Gandhi Bhavan in the city.

Telangana Congress vice president Chamala Kiran Kumar said, “Surat court sentenced Rahul Gandhi for two years. Earlier during the Congress rule, we have given ample space for opposition parties to talk on behalf of the people. Rahul Gandhi had spoken two years back against the scam happening in the country related to Gujrat and related to the name ‘Modi’.”

“So he was not intentionally talking but talking on behalf of the people as a public representative. This verdict is nothing but shows democracy is in danger. Colonial rule is coming back after 75 years in this country. So we staged a silent protest against the verdict,” he added.

Speaking to ANI, Telangana Congress Mahila Morcha president Sunitha Rao stated that allegations against Rahul Gandhi are baseless and the verdict came on the instructions of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-ruled Centre.

“The verdict on Rahul Gandhi has come on the instruction of PM Modi. So we Mahila Congress condemn the verdict that has come against Rahul Gandhi. It is a baseless allegation they made,” Rao said.

Congress leader Pushpaleela said that the BJP is scared of Rahul Gandhi. She said Rahul Gandhi is working for the poor of the country.

“They are scared as the elections are coming close. If we are stopped, then it will become easy for them. We have people with us. In the 8-year BJP rule, everything has become zero,” she added.

A Surat court on Thursday sentenced Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to two years imprisonment in a defamation case filed against him over his ‘Modi surname’ remark made in 2019 during an election rally for Lok Sabha elections.

The court approved Rahul Gandhi’s bail on a surety and stayed the sentence for 30 days to allow him to approach the higher courts.

While the BJP leaders attacked Rahul Gandhi after the verdict saying whatever he speaks it affects the Congress party and the country in a negative way, Congress leaders said that an attempt was being made by the BJP government to suppress the voice of Rahul Gandhi and that he will move the higher courts against the verdict.

Congress leaders also alleged that the judiciary is under pressure.

Jaipur: Rajasthan Congress workers led by state unit president Govind Singh Dotasara held a protest outside the party’s headquarters here on Thursday in solidarity with party leader Rahul Gandhi.

A court in Surat sentenced Gandhi on Thursday to two years in jail in a 2019 criminal defamation case filed against him over his “Modi surname” remark.

Addressing the Congress workers, Dotasara said Gandhi fearlessly puts forth his views while fighting the battle of truth. He said Gandhi was firm on his views and instead of apologising like Savarkar, he accepted the action being taken against him.

“Gandhi is fighting the battle of truth. The verdict of the court will be challenged under the judicial process,” he said.

Oppn stages protest march from Parliament to ED office, seek probe in Adani issue

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: Opposition parties led by the Congress staged protest march from Parliament House to the office of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Wednesday, to hand over a complaint to the probe agency on the Adani issue.

The protest march was joined by the DMK, Left, Samajwadi Party, JDU, Shiv Sena (Uddhav Thackeray faction), and AAP, among others.

The Trinamool Congress is not participating in the protest march as it has said that it will raise its own issues in Parliament.

An impasse between the BJP and Opposition continued on the third day of Parliament as they traded charges over allegations against the Adani group and Rahul Gandhi’s comments in London.

Amid the ruckus, both Houses were adjourned till 2 p.m. on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Leader of the Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge said there is no question of apology over Rahul Gandhi’s remarks and those demanding so must answer on Prime Minister Narendra Modi “humiliating” people of India with his comments abroad.

“We demanded a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) investigation of Adani issue. However, the BJP doesn’t want a JPC as it will bring out the corruption and expose their real face. They wanted a JPC till they were in opposition, now they are scared,” leader of Congress in Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury said during the march.

Several opposition parties including the Congress, DMK, AAP, Left and Uddhav Thackeray’s Shiv Sena faction among others have written to ED, seeking a probe regarding Adani issue.

The parties have urged the agency -to investigate “a relationship that has serious implications not just for our economy but, most importantly, our democracy”.

The opposition cited accusations against the Adani Group that say it has established a network of offshore shell companies and offshore funds linked to the group “for the purposes of artificially inflating stock valuations and to give a distorted picture with regard to the group companies’ financial health”.

The opposition further alleges a “clear causal link” between the offshore entities and the Adani Group’s Indian companies — a reference to Gautam Adani’s brother Vinod, who they say is “alleged to be the person crucial to setting up these networks”.

The opposition letter also alleged that the group “repeatedly exercised improper influence to obtain concessions and contracts from governments and regulated entities”.

New Delhi: Under the leadership of Delhi BJP Working President Virendra Sachdeva on Friday, the saffron party staged a massive protest outside the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) headquarters demanding resignation of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.

A model of Tihar jail was placed at the protest site, inside which former Delhi ministers Satyendar Jain and Manish Sisodia were shown locked, became a special attraction among the protesters and passers-by.

Apart from this, the Chief Minister’s residence was also shown in the protest, on whose walls the list of corruption cases by the Kejriwal government was also hung.

Besides Sachdeva, Delhi Opposition leader Ramvir Singh Bidhuri, BJP MPs Ramesh Bidhuri and Parvesh Verma, State BJP General Secretary Kuljeet Singh Chahal, Co-incharge of Assam BJP Pawan Sharma, MLA Abhay Verma and former State BJP President Adesh Gupta addressed a programme to protest against the AAP government in Delhi.

State BJP Working President said, “The saffron party workers first fought for the resignation of Sisodia and today the results are in front of everyone. Now the next number is of Arvind Kejriwal because Kejriwal himself is the kingpin and mastermind of this entire liquor scam.”

Sachdeva added: “Kejriwal was saying that he would not celebrate Holi. How could Kejriwal apply the colour of Holi on the face which he hides behind the black money of liquor?”

He added: “There was talk of free education and health but Kejriwal gave “buy one get one free liquor bottle scheme” to the people of Delhi. A conspiracy was hatched to make the youth intoxicated.”

CPI (M) Leader MY Tarigami Also Raises Voice in Favour of Striking Patwaris

    Waris Shah

Srinagar, Mar 7 (GNS): The Anantnag Patwar Association staged a sit-in protest at Achabal against the administration to press for an early redressal of their demands.

Talking to GNS, the Patwar Association said they have also been demanding a hike in pay scales for Patwaris, timely departmental promotion of Patwaris and Girdawars, a ban on direct recruitment of Tehsildars, construction of Patwar Khanas, creation of Patwar Halqas and Girdawar circles, timely conduct of DPCs, and an increase in their allowances.

“We are sitting here under the banner of All Jammu and Kashmir Patwari Association for the seventh consecutive day, to let the government know about our demands. We graduate patwaris have a grade pay issue which the government should consider.”

“Like other Education and Finance departments have handsome grade pay, and teachers have a grade pay of 2800, while account officers in the finance department have handsome grade pay. Similarly, we graduate Patwaris demand a genuine increase in our grade pay.”

“The other issue is that Girdawar circle and Pathwar Halqa are the same since the time of Maharaja Hari Singh. As we all are aware, so much development has been done since then we as such demand delimitation of Pathwar Halqa and Girdawar circle,” he said.

“We would also like to draw the keen interest of the administration towards the direct recruitment of Naib Tehsildars and we demand a 75:25 quota, like the one in vogue in the Union territory of Ladakh. Of the 75%, Girdawars and departmental Patwaris should be promoted to Naib Tehsildar”, he further said.

Meanwhile CPI (M) leader Mohamad Yousuf Tarigami has also urged the government to redress genuine demands of striking patwaris. “The strike of patwaris has paralysed the working in revenue department”, Tarigami said.

“The administration has been giving assurances and making promises that their genuine grievances would be redressed, but nothing seems to be happening on ground, forcing them to go on protest. The demands include increase in the grade pay of graduate patwaris, timely departmental promotion of patwaris, girdawaris, rent for Patwar Khanas (Private accommodation), construction of new Patwar Khanas, creation of new patwar halqas and Girdawar circles are all genuine demands, which the must be fulfilled without any further delay”, Tarigami in a statement issued here said.

He urged that the Government must talk to the representatives of the Association and take effective steps to settle their genuine demands. (GNS)

  • BRS stages protests across Telangana over LPG price hike

BRS stages protests across Telangana over LPG price hike

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: Telangana’s ruling Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) on Thursday staged protests across the state against the hike in price of cooking gas.

Ministers, MPs and state legislators led the protest at various places in the state. Large number of women along with empty gas cylinders participated in the protests.

The protestors were carrying posters and raising slogans slamming the BJP-led government at the Centre for further burdening the common man with another hike in LPG price.

On a call given by BRS working president K. T. Rama Rao, protests were organised in headquarters of all Assembly constituencies.

Rama Rao also took to Twitter to taunt the Modi government over the price rise. “Congratulations to the “Double Engine” NPA Government on successfully Tripling the LPG Cylinder prices,” wrote the BRS leader who calls National Democratic Alliance (NDA) as Non Performing Alliance (NPA).

Finance minister T. Harish Rao led a big protest at Medchal near Hyderabad. He alleged that the Modi government continued to burden the common man by hiking the gas price.

“When gas price was Rs 400, the same BJP used to raise a hue and cry but it has tripled the price,” he said.

Harish Rao alleged that the BJP has almost lifted the subsidy on cooking gas. He pointed out that during the UPA regime, the subsidy was Rs 2.14 lakh crore but after BJP came to power it reduced the subsidy every year and it has now come down to Rs 37,209 crore.

The minister recalled that the price of domestic cooking gas cylinder in 2014 was Rs 410.50 but with the latest hike, it has gone up to Rs 1,155. “In nine years, the price of a cylinder has increased by Rs 744.50. Thus there has been an increase of 178 per cent in this period,” he said.

The BRS leader said that the BJP government was increasing the price by Rs 100 after every election. He pointed out that this time too the price has been increased soon after voting was over in Meghalaya, Tripura and Nagaland. He predicted the price will go up further after the Karnataka elections.

He urged people to question the BJP leaders about the price rise when they come to their areas for street corner meetings.

Minister for animal husbandry led the protest at Gandhi statue in Secunderabad in the state capital. As a mark of protest, BRS workers cooked the food on firewood.

The ruling party also organised a huge protest on Tank Bund. MLA D. Nagender led the protest.

Large number of women participated in the protest through cooking in Karimnagar. Participants in the protest led by civil supplies minister Gangula Kamalar raised the slogan aBJP hatao desh bachao’. Excise minister Srinivas Goud led the dharna in Mahabubnagar.

In Warangal, Government Chief Whip Vinay Bhaskar led the protest. Bhaskar termed the hike in gas price as a gift to women on the eve of international women’s day. “At a time when women are preparing for the celebrations, the central government has betrayed them by increasing the price,” he said.

Congress stages protest against AAP, seeks Kejriwal’s resignation

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: The Delhi unit of Congress on Wednesday staged a protest outside the office of the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) here, demanding the resignation of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot, alleging they were also party to the now-scrapped excise policy.

Delhi Congress President Anil Kumar said that the resignations of Manish Sisodia and Satyendar Jain prove that the Kejriwal government was neck-deep in corruption and scams.

The Congress alleged that under the Kejriwal government, Delhi has witnessed a Rs 10,000 crore liquor scam, Rs 4,288 crore DTC scam, premium bus service scam, class room construction scam, toilet complex construction scam, ration scam, oxygen scam during the Covid-19 pandemic, DJB scam and PWD scam.

Addressing the Congress workers, Kumar said that the resignations of his ministers Manish Sisodia and Satyendar Jain, which were quickly accepted by Kejriwal, were clear proof that Kejriwal was “the mastermind of the liquor scam and all other corrupt deals under the Delhi government”.

“Therefore, he should also resign as CM along with Kailash Gahlot, to enable a transparent probe into the liquor scam, to expose the entire corruption behind the liquor deal,” the Congress leader said.

The Congress alleged that Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot was involved in a Rs 4,288 crore DTC bus purchase and maintenance scam, about which Delhi Congress had submitted a 1,000-page complaint to the CVC (Chief Vigilance Officer) and CBI on July 13-14, 2021, seeking a probe, adding the CBI took cognisance of the Congress’ complaint to file a case.

He said that instead of removing Gahlot from the ministry, Kejriwal entrusted him with eight important departments, as “Gahlot was also a partner in Kejriwal’s various scams”.
