A spokesperson for DC Health Link confirmed the breach, and said in a statement that “data for some DC Health Link customers has been exposed on a public forum,” and that the organization is working with forensic investigators and law enforcement to investigate the breach. In addition, DC Health Link is currently in the process of notifying impacted customers, and plans to provide credit monitoring services for all customers regardless of whether their information was compromised.

“We are taking action to ensure the security and privacy of our users’ personal information,” the spokesperson said.

The breach will likely raise concerns on Capitol Hill even higher around threats from cyberattacks, an issue that has come to the forefront due to high-profile ransomware attacks in recent years and a ramp-up of Russian cyber threats due to the war in Ukraine.

The House Office of the Chief Administrative Officer sent a separate letter to House offices on Wednesday further detailing the breach. A spokesperson for the CAO said in a statement that “we are deeply concerned about DC Health Link’s data breach and the impact on our Members and staff. We will continue to communicate any updates we receive from law enforcement to impacted Members and staff.”

The House Administration Committee, which has jurisdiction over the internal procedures of the House, is also stepping in to investigate. House Administration Committee Republicans tweeted Wednesday that committee Chair Bryan Steil (R-Wis.) “is aware of the breach and is working with the CAO to ensure the vendor takes necessary steps to protect the (personal identifiable information) of any impacted member, staff, and their families.”

House Administration Committee ranking member Joe Morelle (D-N.Y.), said in a statement that the breach was “extraordinarily large,” and that the FBI is still working to gather information on the cause and scope of the incident.

In a statement, the FBI said it was “aware of this incident and is assisting. As this is an ongoing investigation, we do not have any additional information to provide at this time.”

Hyderabad: UoH asks students, staff to not feed stray dogs

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: The University of Hyderabad (UoH) on Monday asked its students and staff members not to feed stray dogs in university facilities such as dormitories, messes, hallways, and residences.

According to a circular sent by the university administration, numerous students and employees have recently complained about stray dogs on campus. Students complained that some students/staff were feeding stray dogs, which exacerbated the situation.

The matter was of grave concern since a four-year-old kid was recently mauled and killed by a group of dogs in Amberpet, the city, it said.

The university advised its stakeholders to avoid a pack of dogs, if any, while travelling alone or in poorly lit places on campus, and said it was cooperating with the GHMC on the problem.

“Students/staff are requested to avoid feeding the stray dogs in the hostels/messes, corridors, residences, etc., and help the administration in ensuring the safety and wellbeing of all stakeholders on the campus,” it added.

  • UAE: Private companies must hire Emirati staff by July 1 or face fines

UAE: Private companies must hire Emirati staff by July 1 or face fines

    [ad_1]

Abu Dhabi: The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation said private sector companies in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) need to hire more Emiratis by July 1 or face fines.

The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation sent out a reminder informing private sector companies that they have less than four months to achieve the new targets or face fines.

By the end of 2022, UAE companies have been instructed to ensure that at least 2 per cent of employees are Emiratis.

This number should increase by another 2 per cent each year until it reaches 10 per cent in 2026.

However, a UAE cabinet decision changed the rule earlier this year.

The annual emirate target is now divided throughout the year by 1 per cent in the first six months of the year and the other 1 per cent in the second half.

MoHRE tweeted, “A UAE Cabinet resolution on modifying the mechanism for achieving Emiratisation targets at private sector companies with 50 employees or more came into force.”

“The overall mechanism for achieving the targeted Emiratisation rates has not changed; it became semi-annual instead of annual. Companies with 50 employees or more are required to achieve an increase of 1 per cent of skilled jobs every six months and reach a growth rate of 2 per cent by the end of the year,” MoHRE adds.

MoHRE continued, “The annual 2 per cent Emiratisation growth for skilled jobs in 2022 for private sector companies and the 10 per cent goal for 2026 have not been changed in this resolution,”

“The resolution aims to accelerate achieving Emiratisation targets and employing UAE nationals in the private sector throughout the year,” MoHRE added.

Currently, companies that fail to meet the targets will be fined 6,000 Dirhams (Rs 1,33,389) per month or 72,000 Dirhams (Rs 16,00,668) per year. The fine will be paid in one installment.

The value of monthly fines imposed on private sector entities will gradually increase at a rate of 1,000 Dirhams (Rs 22,231) per year until 2026.

  • BBC does not have an ‘agenda’, says chief to staff in India after I-T survey

BBC does not have an ‘agenda’, says chief to staff in India after I-T survey

    [ad_1]

London: The BBC is not driven by an “agenda” but by purpose and will not be put off reporting impartially and without fear or favour, the UK-headquartered media organisation’s chief has said days after the income tax department survey operation at its New Delhi and Mumbai offices.

In an email to BBC staff in India reported on Thursday by the broadcaster, Director General Tim Davie thanked them for their courage as he stressed that nothing was more important than reporting impartially. He added that the BBC would help staff in India do their jobs effectively and safely.

“Nothing is more important than our ability to report without fear or favour,” Davie said in the email, reported by the BBC.

“Our duty to our audiences around the world is to pursue the facts through independent and impartial journalism, and to produce and distribute the very best creative content. We won’t be put off from that task. I’d like to be clear: the BBC does not have an agenda we are driven by purpose. And our first public purpose is to provide impartial news and information to help people understand and engage with the world around them,” he said.

The income tax survey came weeks after the London-headquartered public broadcaster aired a controversial two-part documentary in the UK, India: The Modi Question’, referencing Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the 2002 Gujarat riots.

The email from Davie came a week after I-T officials spent three days carrying out what they called a “survey” at the BBC offices. In an official statement at the end of the searches, the BBC said that it will “continue to cooperate” with the authorities and hopes matters are resolved as soon as possible.

In its statement following the survey, the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) said it had found discrepancies and that the income and profits disclosed by the organisation’s units were “not commensurate with the scale of operations in India”.

Earlier this week, the British government strongly defended the BBC and its editorial freedom in Parliament to say: “We stand up for the BBC. We fund the BBC. We think the BBC World Service is vital.”

David Rutley, a UK Foreign Office minister, was responding to an urgent question raised in the House of Commons by the Opposition parties, some of whom branded the action a “deliberate act of intimidation following the release of an unflattering documentary about the country’s leader” and sharply criticised the UK government for failing to make a statement on the issue sooner.

Woman dies in Rajasthan hospital, kin assault medical staff

    [ad_1]

Kota:The kin of a 40-year-old woman allegedly thrashed on-duty medical staff and damaged government property after she died during treatment at the district hospital in Rajasthan’s Bundi, officials said on Sunday.

Mumtaj, a resident of the city’s Mahaveer Colony, was admitted to the hospital’s medical ward late on Saturday. She died within an hour.

Claiming that the doctors and medical staff administered the wrong injection, her family members allegedly assaulted and misbehaved with on-duty doctors and nursing staff and damaged hospital property on the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday.

Sub-Divisional Magistrate Sohanlal Choudhary and Additional Superintendent of Police Kishori Lal rushed to the spot and a police force was called in to control the situation.

Following the alleged assault, the doctors at the hospital briefly boycotted work. A delegation also submitted a memorandum to the sub-divisional magistrate and demanded security deployment at the hospital.

They returned to work at 4 am on Sunday.

The woman’s body was handed over to her family members after a post-mortem during the night, Choudhary said.

He also assured the doctors that adequate home guards would be deployed till the hospital management makes arrangements.

At least seven people have been booked under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Rajasthan Medical Protection Act. One person has been arrested in this connection, the police said.

The other accused will be arrested soon as the woman’s last rites were performed on Sunday, Ramesh Chanda, an officer at Bundi city police station, said.

  • Reopening of Schools: Only Secondary, Senior Secondary teaching staff to report back on Feb-20: Officials

    [ad_1]

Srinagar, Feb 17: Amid confusion among the teachers of the School Education Department regarding reporting back to their respective institutions after the winter vacations, officials Friday said only teachers of Secondary and Secondary Schools will have to report on February-20.

The official said that as per the instructions, the teaching staff of High and Higher Secondary Schools will have to report back to their respective schools on February-20.

According to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the official said, “There is no mention of resumption of duties for primary school teaching staff. So it is clear that they would not have to report on February-20.”

“However, such teaching staff may be ordered to report back to their respective institutions a few days earlier for streamlining the things,” the official said.

Earlier in November-2022, the School Education Department had said, “The Teaching staff of High and Higher Secondary Schools shall report back to their respective schools on February-20-2023, so that they remain available for making arrangements regarding preparation of ensuing examinations.”

”All teachers shall remain available on demand for any online guidance of students during vacation period. Any default on part of the Head of the Schools or Teaching staff in observance of the above schedule shall attract strict action under Rules,” it reads—(KNO)
