UP: Atiq Ahmad’s 2 jailed sons among 6 booked for attempt to murder, extortion

Prayagraj: Police here have filed a fresh FIR against gangster-politician Atiq Ahmad’s two sons Umar and Ali, who are currently in jail, and four others on charges of attempt to murder and extortion.
The FIR was registered at Khuldabad police station on the basis of a complaint lodged by a builder, Mohammad Muslim, police officials said.
Atiq and his brother Ashraf, both of whom were booked in the Umesh Pal murder case, were shot dead here on April 15 by three men posing as journalists while they were being escorted by police personnel to a hospital for a checkup.

Mohammad, a resident of Chakia, started working as a builder in 2006. Atiq, his brother Ashraf and their henchmen encroached on his land and demanded money from him, according to the FIR.
Fearing Atiq, Mohammad left Prayagraj and went to Lucknow. However, Atiq’s henchmen kept threatening him, the officials said.
Mohammad owns land in Devghat village which is worth about Rs 15 crore. Atiq’s aide Asad Kalia visited Lucknow several times and threatened Mohammad to force him to transfer his land in the name of Ali and Umar Ahmad, they said.
A few years ago, Mohammad was surrounded, forced into a car and taken to Atiq’s office, where he was locked in a room and beaten up, they added.
On the basis of Mohammad’s complaint, an FIR under sections 307 (attempt to murder) and 386 (extortion), among others, of the Indian Penal Code has been registered against Umar and Ali Ahmad, Asad Kalia, Ehtesham Karim, Ajay and Mohd Nasrat, the officials said.

While Umar is lodged in Lucknow jail, Ali is lodged in Naini jail.
Atiq’s third son, Asad, who was also named in the Umesh Pal murder case, was gunned down in a police encounter on April 13.

New experience, says Sachin Tendulkar on son’s IPL debut

Mumbai: On Sunday, left-arm fast-bowling all-rounder Arjun Tendulkar made his IPL debut for Mumbai Indians against Kolkata Knight Riders at the Wankhede Stadium. It also made him and his father, legendary India batter, Sachin Tendulkar become the first father-son pair to have featured in the tournament.
Now, in a video posted by the IPL Twitter handle, Sachin revealed that he had never watched his son Arjun play in a competitive cricket match. “This was a new experience for me because till now, I have not actually gone and watched him play. I just wanted him to have that freedom to go out and express himself whatever he wanted to do.”

Sachin had played for Mumbai in the IPL, scoring 2334 runs in 78 matches from 2008 to 2013. He also captained Mumbai in 51 matches, with his record reading as 30 victories and 21 defeats. “It’s a different feeling because 2008 was the first season for me and 16 years down the line, he plays for the same team. Not bad,” he added.
Arjun ended the game with figures of 0/17 in his two overs. He wasn’t required to bat as Mumbai won the match by five wickets. “It was a great moment, special to play for them I have supported since 2008, and it was very nice to get the cap from the captain of MI and the Indian team,” said Arjun.
Mumbai’s next game in IPL 2023 will be against Sunrisers Hyderabad on Tuesday at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium.

The moment she uploads any picture of her boys Taimur and Jeh, fans in no time make those snaps viral.
On Tuesday, Kareena once again dropped an adorable picture of her elder son Taimur with his Ibrahim on Instagram.

The image shows Ibrahim and Taimur posing with their shirts pulled up and copying each other’s pose.
Ibrahim can be seen in a white t-shirt, while Taimur looks cute in a yellow t-shirt. Sharing the image, she wrote, “Was Siblings day yesterday or today… OR… is it everyday? Iggy (nick name of Ibrahim) and TimTim.”
The boys’ image left netizens in awe.
“Tim has abs and me having junk food while double tapping this. Nevermind,” a social media user quipped.
“Cuties,” another one wrote.

Saif and Amrita tied the knot in 1991 and divorced in 2004. Both Sara and Ibrahim were raised by their mother. In 2012, Saif exchanged vows with Kareena and now the couple shares two sons — Taimur and Jeh.
Meanwhile, on the work front, Kareena will be seen sharing the screen with Tabu and Kriti Sanon and Diljit Dosanjh in the film ‘The Crew’. The shoot of the film commenced recently.
Helmed by Rajesh Krishnan, the film is a story of three women. It is touted as a laugh-riot, set against the backdrop of the struggling airline industry.

Congress activist bombs son’s house for supporting TMC, arrested

Kolkata: A 62-year-old Congress activist was arrested in West Bengal’s Murshidabad district on Sunday for allegedly bombing the house of his son who is a TMC member, police said.
Zahiruddin Sheikh hurled crude bombs at the house of his son Anisur Sheikh (30), who is the TMC youth wing president of Raninagar 2 panchayat area, on Saturday night, they said.
The relationship between Zahiruddin and Anisur soured after he and his wife Sefali Seikh joined the TMC during the 2018 panchayat elections. Shefali was made the panchayat pradhan by the TMC, following which she and her husband started living separately from her in-laws, locals said.

No one was injured in the attack as Anisur and Sefali manage to escape but panic gripped the area, police said.
Anisur alleged that his father attacked his house to prevent him from fighting the next panchayat polls.
The Congress dismissed the charges, claiming that it does not believe in violence, “which is the hallmark of TMC”.
Zahiruddin also rejected the allegation, stating he was being framed by his daughter-in-law.
He alleged that Anirul himself bombed his own house to get sympathy from the people.

Police said Zahiruddin was arrested on the basis of a complaint filed by his son, and an investigation was underway.
A police team was posted in the area to prevent a further flare-up.

Row over deity picture on UP DM’s son’s birthday cake

Kanpur: Kanpur Dehat district magistrate Neha Jain is in the midst of another controversy — this time for her son’s birthday cake.
According to reports, Jain’s son’s birthday cake had a picture of a deity and a trident.
The pictures of the cake in question — which was cut during the birthday celebration on April 1 — have gone viral on social media platforms over the last two days, with the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) and the Bajrang Dal staging a protest for ‘hurting religious sentiments’.

The district magistrate has issued a statement saying that the image on the cake was of a super hero from the film ‘Brahmastra’ who embodies the victory of good over evil.
“Its use was not intended to hurt anyone’s sentiment but if someone felt that way, I extend an apology,” she added.
However, the statement did not have the desired impact as the controversy continues to gather steam.
VHP Gauraksha chief Aditya Shukla and state government employees’ joint council’s district convener Amit Pandey have alleged that the district magistrate called them to her residence to talk about the incident and then their mobiles phones were forcibly taken away.
The two leaders added that they were made to sit for seven hours and their mobile phones were returned the following day.

Reacting to the episode, VHP Gauraksha chief said that it was an insult to our culture and heritage.
Meanwhile, Amit Pandey said that he has submitted a complaint to Superintendent of Polic Kanpur Dehat about the incident.
On the other hand, the district magistrate has said that sharing photos of her personal life is a breach of privacy.
“I have written to the Kanpur Dehat SP requesting an investigation into how the pictures were leaked. A probe should reveal who were the people behind it,” she said.
Kanpur Dehat SP B.B.T.G.S. Murthy said that the police are looking into both the complaints.
It may be recalled that the district magistrate had landed in controversy when two women died during an anti-encroachment drive in February and a video clip of Jain dancing at a function went viral at the same time.

Gujarat CMO Veteran Resigns Over Son’s Ties To JK Conman

SRINAGAR: Hitesh Pandya, an additional public relations officer in the Gujarat Chief Minister’s Office, resigned on Friday evening after serving for nearly 22 years. The resignation was due to the links between his son, a businessman associated with the BJP, and “conman” Kiran Patel, who is currently in custody in J&K for impersonating an official from the Prime Minister’s Office. Pandya had served five chief ministers, including Keshubhai Patel, Narendra Modi, Anandiben Patel, Vijay Rupani, and Bhupendra Patel.
As per Hitesh Pandya’s statement, The Indian Express reported, “I have tendered my resignation to the Chief Minister (Bhupendra Patel). Nobody asked me to resign. I felt I should resign. I will wind up my pending work by March 31 and be relieved from the office.”
Hours before resigning, Hitesh Pandya confirmed to the newspaper The Indian Express that his son, Amit, had visited J&K with Kiran Patel “for business purpose” with his approval. Amit, along with another individual, Jay Sitapara, were present when Patel was arrested earlier this month. Both Amit and Sitapara have been summoned by the J&K police for questioning.
According to Pandya, his son is innocent and a witness in the case. He also mentioned that Amit deals in home security appliances and is associated with the BJP, having served as the party’s social media cell convener in North Zone till January 2023.
While denying any knowledge of Kiran Patel’s links to the CMO, Pandya admitted that Patel was affiliated with a private organization called Nation First Foundation (NFF), which Pandya had established in 2011.
“I founded the organization in 2011 to promote Modi saheb’s ideologies. Our work was solely focused on serving the nation. We conducted a Bharat Jago Abhiyan to create awareness among people about the BJP government’s initiatives and accomplishments… Kiran Patel joined the organization through Amit’s connection with him,” said Pandya as per The Indian Express.
When asked specifically about Amit’s connection with Kiran Patel, Pandya stated, “They were both employed at a publicity company in 2004. I knew Kiran as Amit’s friend. However, I came to the realization in 2011 that he was not someone we should associate ourselves with. Therefore, I relieved him and all the individuals associated with him from NFF. I found his business practices and billing to be improper… Kiran Patel then went on to establish his own organization.”
“Why would you break the relationship? He was keeping him away without snapping the relationship,” said Pandya when asked why he didn’t warn his son about Kiran Patel. However, their contact increased after Amit’s “rare heart condition” in September last year. “After Kiran’s arrest, Amit and Jay were kept in a hotel and their statements recorded. Then, they were let go and told that they will have to come whenever called. His statement was recorded as a witness,” he explained.

Pandya also mentioned that he informed the Chief Minister and other relevant authorities about the case as soon as he found out about it from Amit.
Pandya has been associated with the Gujarat CMO for over two decades, joining in 2001 as an assistant PRO. Before that, he worked at Life Corporation of India and the Rajkot daily “Phulchhab”.

Allahabad HC reserves order on Atiq’s missing minor sons

Prayagraj: The Allahabad High Court has reserved its order on a habeas corpus writ petition seeking to know the whereabouts of the two missing minor sons of jailed mafia don Atiq Ahmed.
Atiq’s wife Shaista Parveen had filed the petition alleging that their two minor sons — Ahzan and Aaban — were arrested by the police on February 24 after the killing of Umesh Pal and their whereabouts are not known since then.
Atiq, Shaista, his brother Ashraf and two sons are named as accused in the case.
The order was passed by a division bench comprising Justices Vivek Kumar Birla and Surendra Singh after hearing submissions by counsels for the petitioner and state government.
Appearing on behalf of the petitioner, senior advocate Daya Shankar Mishra argued that the life and liberty of Atiq’s two minor sons are in danger.
Therefore, he requested the court that a direction be issued that they (minors) be produced before the court and set at liberty.
A preliminary objection was raised on behalf of additional advocate general Manish Goyal, who represented the state government, that an application under section 97 of criminal procedure code (CrPC) was already pending before the CJM Allahabad and hence the habeas corpus writ petition was not maintainable.

Doting parents place QR code on son’s tomb to keep his memories alive

Thrissur: A QR code placed on a tombstone at a church in Kerala’s Thrissur helps one to relive and reminisce on the creative work rendered by a doctor, who died young at just 26.
The parents of Dr Ivin Francis decided to place the QR code on the tomb of the youngster at St Joseph Church, Kuriyachira in the central Kerala district to give people a glimpse into his world as they can watch videos of his performances by scanning the code.
His family from Kuriyachira has designed a web page containing all the works of Ivin and linked it with the QR code.
Son of Francis, an officer with a private company in Oman, and Leena, principal of the Indian School in Oman, Ivin was well-versed in music and sports, and found time to indulge in his passion along with his medical course. He was popular among the community with his performances.
Ivin’s unfortunate death came in 2021 when he collapsed and died while playing badminton.
“We wanted his life to be a motivation for everyone and that is how we thought of placing a QR code on his tomb,” Francis said.
Ivin had created profiles of people using QR codes and his parents also decided to do the same. “He also used to send me a lot of QR codes for information. I could scan the QR code and could download the information I was seeking,” the father said.
He said the idea of placing a QR code was of Ivin’s sister Evelyn Francis. “My daughter told me that just writing something about Ivin on the tomb will not be sufficient to portray what all he did. We thought he may not be satisfied with just that. So, she said we can have a QR code linked to his profile and place it on the tomb. So, people who scan the code will know what was he and what all he could do. She created the site and QR code in 10 days,” Francis said.

The doting father said his daughter had asked him not to inscribe anything on the tomb when he ordered it. “She created the site and QR code and asked me whether that could be printed on the marble tomb. So I asked the maker, and he said it can be printed,” Francis said.
He said when the tomb is placed in a cemetery and people see Ivin’s grave, there will not be anyone available to tell them about his son.
“Now, they can just scan the QR code and can know what sort of a person Ivin was,” Francis said.
Francis said by scanning the QR code, people can see Ivin’s photographs, his programmes at the college, his friend’s circle, among other details about him. His keyboard and guitar performances can also be seen, Ivin’s father added.

Atiq Ahmad’s wife, sons to be named as gang members

Prayagraj: In a first, Shaista Parveen , wife of mafia-turned-politician Atiq Ahmad, and their three sons will now be named as members of his gang registered as IS-227 in police records.
According to police officials, Shaista Parveen will be the first woman to be included as a member of this gang in police records.
During the BSP regime, Prayagraj police had prepared Atiq’s gang chart and had named it IS-227.
“Police investigations have revealed their active involvement in criminal activities and that is why such action would be taken against them,” the officials said.
This will be the first time when the whole family of a political mafia will be included in the list of an interstate gang.
Till now, Atiq’s younger brother Khalid Azeem a.k.a Ashraf, a former MLA, was the only family member to be named as member of IS-227 gang.
Shaista Parveen has four cases registered against her including the murder of lawyer Umesh Pal in Prayagraj on February 24.
Pal’s two police security guards were also injured in the attack and had died later. Shaista is absconding and a reward of Rs 25,000 has been declared on her arrest.

Atiq’s third son Asad, has been named among the shooters who shot Umesh Pal dead. A reward of Rs 5 lakh has been declared on all the assailants, including Asad.
Atiq’s two elder sons Umar and Ali are already in Lucknow and Naini jails for different crimes.
Police said Atiq’s gang operates across the country.
“Initially there were around 170 persons in Atiq’s gang. However, the number has now come down to 132 as many have died or become inactive,” officials said.
After lawyer Umesh Pal’s murder in Prayagraj on February 24, police came to know that Atiq and his brother Ashraf had recruited some new members in their gang.
Instructions have been issued to identify newer gang members, officials said.
