SRINAGAR: A family head was arrested on allegations of attacking and killing his son even as injuring his wife and daughter in Samba district on Wednesday afternoon.
An official said that one Kulbir Singh was arrested by police soon after a news of him spread for allegedly attacking and killing his son Jatan Singh and also injuring his wife Poonam Devi and daughter with some sharp-edged weapon at their residence in Rakhi Sum area in Samba district.
Confirming the incident, a police official said that soon after receiving information a police team rushed to the spot and apprehended the accused within no time. “We have registered a case into the incident and the accused being questioned regarding the unfortunate incident”, the official said. YSR Congress party MP Magunta Srinivasulu Reddy- IANS
New Delhi: Raghav Magunta, son of YSR Congress Party MP from Andhra Pradesh’s Ongole Magunta Sreenivasulu Reddy, recorded false statement before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with the Delhi excise policy scam and also destroyed crucial evidence to derail the probe, the ED has claimed in the charge sheet, a source said.
Magunta was placed under arrest on February 10 this year by the ED.
He was grilled at length and later the ED filed a second supplementary charge sheet naming him as one of the accused.
The ED has claimed that Magunta recorded a fake statement under section 50 of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). The statement pertaining to his control of Magunta Agro Farms and Pixie Enterprises.
“It was a fictitious account which he told us. We learnt it during the course of investigation. We seized his phone, but he had deleted the entire data. It was crucial evidence which he destroyed. His intention was to derail the investigation,” said the source.
Later, the ED retrieved his chats with Buchi Babu from Babu’s cell phone. The ED source said that Magunta’s chats were intact in the phone of Buchi Babu while in his own cell phone there was no data, which proved that crucial evidence was deliberately destroyed. It was a crucial chat which the ED needed to prove the duo’s guilt.
“Magunta has changed his mobile phone multiple times during the period of commission of the predicate offence and later on. Most importantly the phone containing the data of the relevant period of scam has not been found,” the ED has claimed
New Delhi: A 78-year-old woman died and her son was injured in a fire at their home in west Delhi’s Mansarovar Garden area in the early hours of Tuesday, police said.
Fire officials said they received information about the incident around 1 am, following which two fire tenders rushed to the spot. The fire was brought under control and the fire engines returned by 2.40 am, they said.
The firefighters broke open the second floor flat’s locked door and found the woman, Mahender Kaur, in an unconscious state. Her son Surender Pal (49) was found unconscious on the roof of the flat, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (west) Akshat Kaushal said.
Both were rushed to the Acharya Bhikshu Hospital, where Kaur was declared brought dead. Pal was shifted to the Ram Manohar Lohia hospital, he added.
It was observed that the fire had burnt the bed of Mahender Kaur, who was bedridden, and the one in the guest room. Burnt cardboard pieces were found near the gas stove and in the bedroom of Kaur. A cardboard was also found on the roof near Pal, police said.
It is suspected that Kaur died of suffocation. The autopsy will ascertain the exact cause of death, they said.
Pal had returned from London four to five years ago. It was revealed that he was suffering from depression for the last few months and his father is in the ICU of a hospital A crime team and a forensic team have been called to the spot, police said.
Police said that according to a preliminary investigation, Pal consumed 10 to 12 sleeping pills and went to the terrace. He had planned to jump off the terrace, they claimed.
A case under sections 436 (mischief by fire or explosive substance with intent to destroy house, etc) and 302 (punishment for murder) of the Indian Penal Code has been registered and further investigation is underway, police said, adding that the suspected role of deceased’s son is being probed.
Lucknow: A special court here on Friday framed charges against gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmad, his son Umar Ahmad and 15 others in connection with the kidnapping of businessman Mohit Jaiswal in 2018.
Special court judge Ajai Vikram Singh directed the prosecuting agency CBI to produce its witnesses before it on April 17.
Atiq was produced in the court through video conferencing. The remaining accused were present in the court.
According to the prosecution, the FIR in the matter was registered at Krishna Nagar police station on December 28, 2018 based on a complaint filed by businessman Jaiswal.
It was alleged that Atiq Ahmad, while in jail, got him kidnapped through his associates from his office at Gomtinagar. Later, he was taken to Deoria jail where Atiq Ahmad got him assaulted, obtained his signature on a blank paper and then grabbed his property worth Rs 45 crore.
Following the Supreme Court’s directions, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) took up the investigation in the case on June 12, 2019.
In the course of its investigation, the CBI had filed four separate charge sheets.
Recently, an MP-MLA court of Prayagraj had held gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmad and two others guilty in the 2006 Umesh Pal kidnapping case and sentenced them to rigorous imprisonment for life.
This was the first conviction of Ahmad who faces more than 100 cases. A former Samajwadi Party (SP) MP, Ahmad is currently lodged in Sabarmati jail in Gujarat.
Hyderabad: In a bizarre incident, a son lodged a police complaint against his father alleging the latter’s irresponsible driving was the reason behind the death of his mother.
Accused Bandi Ramakrishna, a farmer by profession and his wife Rukmini, who hail from Sitarampuram had met with an accident on March 25 when they were returning home on a motorbike after attending a religious function at Abbugudem village.
Rukmini fell off the bike and sustained severe injuries when Ramakrishna allegedly drove it recklessly over a speed breaker.
Though she was rushed to the hospital she succumbed to her injuries on Tuesday while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Khammam.
Following her death, Ramakrishna’s son Narendra who works in a private firm in Hyderabad filed a complaint with the VM Banjar police alleging that his father’s rash driving led to his mother’s death.
A case has been booked. Further investigation is underway.
Hyderabad: A daily wage earner was murdered by his son at Kulsumpura in the city late on Tuesday night following an altercation.
The deceased person was identified as N Venkatesh 45, a resident of Kargil Nagar in Kulsumpura of Hyderabad. His wife and son Sai Kumar stayed with him.
“Venkatesh got addicted to liquor and after coming home in drunken condition picked up quarrels with his family members. On Tuesday night, he came home in drunken condition when his son protested his attitude and afterward strangulated him using a towel. He died due to it,” SHO Kulsumpura police station, T Ashok Kumar said.
The Kulsumpura police booked a case and shifted the body to the mortuary. Sai Kumar reportedly surrendered before the police.

Hyderabad: A woman was arrested on Thursday for killing her six-year-old son by allegedly drowning him in a canal at Makloor in Nizamabad.
The incident came to light after G Bharath, a painter, complained to the police claiming that his wife G Lavanya, 33, killed their elder son G Rohit to get rid of her responsibilities.
Bharath, who married her 12 years ago further alleged that she made an unsuccessful attempt on their son’s life earlier.
On Wednesday morning, Bharat received a phone call from a local informing him that Lavanya drowned their son in the Nizamsagar canal at Borgam Kalan village in Makloor police station limits near Nizamabad town.
By the time locals rushed to the spot, the boy was dead and Lavanya fled from the spot.
According to police, Lavanya is addicted to alcohol and went out with her son on Tuesday.
“The woman under the influence of alcohol, drowned her son in the canal,” said police.
Her husband also alleged that she even tried slitting his stomach when he was asleep. A case was booked against the woman while the police initiated a search to trace her.
Bengaluru: Amid speculation over whom the BJP would field against Karnataka Congress strongman Siddaramaiah in Varuna constituency in the May 10 Assembly polls, party stalwart B S Yediyurappa on Thursday did not rule out the possibility of his son B Y Vijayendra entering the fray.
Varuna in Mysuru district is among the key seats to watch out for as Siddaramaiah, the Congress legislature party leader and former Chief Minister, has thrown his hat in the ring in this segment, currently represented his son Yathindra.
When asked by reporters whether Vijayendra would be fielded from Varuna, Yediyurappa said, “Discussions are going on. Siddaramaiah knows that his ground is slipping away. I don’t think it is so easy for him. We will field a good candidate. We will give a tough fight. Let’s see what happens.”
The BJP veteran and four-time Chief Minister said the decision on whether to give the Varuna ticket to Vijayendra, who is the state BJP vice-president, would be left to the party’s central leadership.
Commenting about it, Siddaramaiah told reporters at the Congress office that he was not bothered about the candidate who would contest against him.
Congress state president D K Shivakumar who was also present, quipped that his party would welcome it if Yediyurappa himself decided to contest from Varuna.
Yediyurappa has announced his retirement from electoral politics.
SRINAGAR: A son has allegedly killed his mother in Sopore area in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, reports and officials said.
Reports reaching the news agency GNS said that a youth strangulated his mother to death in Dangarpora village in Sopore area on intervening Wednesday and Thursday night.
Confirming the unfortunate incident, a senior police officer told GNS that they have launched a large-scale manhunt to nab the accused.
“We are looking into all possible angles regarding the incident”, the officer said adding, “Once any further details are available, same will be shared accordingly.” (GNS)
