Cheque Bounce Rule: If you also pay through cheque, then it is very important to take care of many things. Otherwise, if the Cheque bounces, you may have to go to jail along with the fine. Cheque bounce is considered a legal offense in the language of the court. In this, a provision has been made for punishment under the Negotiable Instruments Act of 1881.
When does a Cheque bounce?
When a bank rejects a Cheque for some reason and the payment is not made, it is called Cheque bounce. The reason for this happening is mostly due to lack of balance in the account. Apart from this, even if there is a difference in the person’s signature, the bank rejects the cheque.
Reasons for Cheque bounce

– Payee’s bank account does not have sufficient funds
– Signature does not match
– Account number does not match
– Cheque issued with date
– Amount does not match in words and figures
– Mutilated Cheque
– overdraft limit
What happens after a Cheque bounces?
When the Cheque bounces, the person giving the Cheque has to inform about it. After which he has to pay you within 1 month. In case of not doing so, a legal notice is sent to the person. Even after that, if no reply is given for 15 days, then a case is registered against him under Section 138 of Negotiable Instrument Act 1881. Under the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881, the person can be prosecuted and the Cheque drawer can be punished for up to two years.
How long is the Cheque period?
Cheques, bank drafts are currently valid for 3 months from their issue.
Why are they valid only for 3 months?
It is common banking practice to dishonor a Cheque older than 3 months. This practice is for the protection of the person who has written the cheque, as there is a possibility that the payment may have been made through some other means or the Cheque may have been lost or stolen.
Keep these things in mind before issuing a cheque-
Whenever you give a Cheque to someone, make sure that you have money in your account.
Apart from this, the person taking the v should get it cashed within three months.
Whenever you pay someone with a cheque, avoid giving more space between words and figures regarding the name and amount.
Whenever you sign a bank cheque, remember that you have to sign in the same way as it is already recorded in the records of the concerned bank branch.
Whenever you pay someone through a bank cheque, make sure to note down the details of the Cheque like Cheque number, account name, amount and date.
Always issue account payee cheques.
The signature on the Cheque should be registered with the bank.

The Lt Governor shared the milestones achieved in transforming the sporting ecosystem in Jammu Kashmir.
Under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, J&K is realizing its true potential in sports. New sporting icons are emerging in every discipline, all the barriers have been removed & youngsters from small towns & villages are achieving their dreams, said the Lt Governor.
We have been successful in providing state of the art infrastructure, facilities, coaching and opportunities to the young sportspersons of J&K to prove their mettle, he added.
The Lt Governor asked the young table tennis players to take inspiration from the likes of Sharath Kamal, Mouma Das and Manika Batra and bring laurels to the country in international championships.

“Don’t stop when you are tired. Stop when you are done. I call upon all the players to compete with the spirit of sportsmanship. Your aim should give new enthusiasm, new identity to the youth, and hope to the society and the nation,” said the Lt Governor.
The Lt Governor said the presence of Arjuna Awardees, Khel Ratna & Dronacharya Awardees will surely raise the morale and confidence of the other players participating in the championship.
Sh Rajeev Rai Bhatnagar, Advisor to Lt Governor and Sh Sarmad Hafeez, Secretary Youth Services and Sports also spoke on the occasion and enumerated the sports facilities and infrastructure developed in the last two years in J&K UT.
Around 900 players from across the country are participating in the championship.

Crisis sparks new battle between small and large banks

ICBA is gearing up to make the case that the smallest, “community” banks shouldn’t have to pay for the rescue of bank depositors and that the largest lenders deserve stricter oversight from regulators. The group entered the fray early Monday with this message to reporters covering the crisis: “Silicon Valley Bank and the Nation’s Largest Banks Are Not Community Banks.”
“There’s a great deal of anger” among small banks, said Cam Fine, ICBA’s former leader. “They do feel like they’re being lumped in with a bunch of high-flying, high-risk takers.”
The conflict — which is starting to look like a similar small bank vs. big bank lobbying fight in the wake of the 2008 crisis — underscores what’s at stake for players across the industry as Washington revamps fundamental banking policy and looks for accountability.
“From a lobbying policy disagreement point of view, it’s 2008 all over again,” Fine said.
ICBA President and CEO Rebeca Romero Rainey said in an interview that community banks shouldn’t have to pay any special assessments “to cover the sins of the largest and riskiest institutions.” It’s a live issue now that the government has promised to backstop all deposits at two failed lenders, with individual banks potentially on the hook for fees to cover the cost of replenishing the deposit insurance fund.
Looking ahead, Romero Rainey said Congress and the regulators need to consider strengthening rules for the largest banks.
Everyone is still assessing the situation, but bank capital regulations are part of the discussion, she said. Bank capital rules set standards for funding that lenders must maintain to absorb losses during economic downturns and spare taxpayers from having to bail them out.
“As we saw the systemic impact that failure would have, we have to learn from that and avoid it in the future,” Romero Rainey said.

It’s a message that’s already starting to annoy bigger players in the industry.
“When you see deposits flooding out of small banks to large ones, it gets really tough to claim that large banks need more capital or liquidity,” said one large bank representative, granted anonymity to respond candidly. “But salmon swim upstream, so perhaps the ICBA thinks it can too.”
Fine said the “salmon” comparison, which first appeared in a POLITICO newsletter Tuesday morning, was an “unprofessional insult to a class of banks that make up 98 percent of all insured banks.”
Small bank representatives “are ripped about that quote, and they’re ready to go both to the regulatory agencies and to Capitol Hill and make their case that they’re anything but salmon swimming upstream,” he said.
Underscoring the dispute are real-world competitive tensions between small and large banks as depositors rethink where they park cash. A Bloomberg headline Tuesday read: “Too-Big-to-Fail Lenders Rake In Deposits After Three Banks Fail.” The biggest of the big banks — known in regulatory parlance as global systemically important financial institutions — also want to put some distance between themselves and regional banks like SVB and Signature.
Financial Services Forum spokesperson Barbara Hagenbaugh said the U.S. “broadly benefits from a strong and resilient system of banks of all sizes to meet the many and diverse needs of our economy.” The group represents eight of the largest U.S. banks.
“As we saw during the pandemic and we are seeing now, the eight Forum members are strong and diversified, acting as a source of support for the economy,” she said.
Romero Rainey said part of her challenge is ensuring “differentiation” as larger banks use the uncertainty to win over customers from smaller lenders.
“I hate to see folks taking advantage of this situation to portray a different scenario or a lack of strength,” Romero Rainey said.
