Babri demolition: AIMIM slams Cong ad featuring PV Narasimha Rao

    [ad_1]

The All India Majlis-E-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) on Sunday called the inclusion of former Prime Minister PV Narasimha Rao’s image in an advertisement of the Congress party’s plenary an indication of its ‘secularism’.

“The inclusion of PV Narasimha Rao says everything we need to know about Congress party’s “secularism”. As Prime Minister, Narasimha Rao played an essential role in the demolition of Babri Masjid. It should not be forgiven or forgotten, the party tweeted.

Even in 2020, when Telangana chief minister K Chandrashekhar Rao and the ruling TRS gave a call for an state assembly resolution to give Bharat Ratna to the former PM, AIMIM MLAs boycotted the proceedings.

Narasimha Rao is often criticised for ‘not doing enough’ to stop the demolition of the Babri Masjid which took place on December 6, 1992, when he was the country’s Prime Minister.

The Babri Masjid was illegally demolished on December 6, 1992, by a large group of activists from the Vishva Hindu Parishad and other organisations. The 16th-century Babri Masjid in the Uttar Pradesh city of Ayodhya had been the site of a long-running socio-political dispute, and it was targeted after a political rally organised by Hindu nationalist organisations turned violent.

Tharoor slams Jaishankar for China ‘bigger economy’ remark

    [ad_1]

Raipur: Congress MP Shashi Tharoor on Saturday criticised External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar for the latter’s recent remark during an interview that “China is a bigger economy” while defending India’s policy on China amid tensions along the Line of Actual Control (LAC)

“It is shocking to hear from the External Affairs Minister that China is too rich to stand up to,” Tharoor said while speaking on the international resolution passed by the Congress during the party’s 85th plenary session being held here.

Tharoor said the future of India is bright as long as the Congress fights the good fight and we have to send a message from here.A

The MP from Thiruvananthapuram said that the party should be absolutely clear about its ideology if it wants to take on the BJP with full might.

Stressing on the idea of inclusive India, Tharoor said that Congress could have been more vocal on the release of Bilkis Bano rape case convicts and cow vigilantes.

Tharoor also targeted the Central government for ‘rampant crony capitalism’ and ‘accumulating wealth in the hands of a few friends of the Prime Minister’.

Meanwhile, the Congress in its political resolution said that it will bring a law to punish and prevent hate crimes to combat hate politics and violence.

The resolution said, “In the last eight-and-a-half years under the BJP government, the politics of hate has assumed alarming proportions and religious polarisation has reached its peak. Hate crimes and atrocities have increased manifold. Vigilante right wing groups incite violence on various trivial issues.

“These groups operate with impunity and have started acting like police, spreading anarchy and fear. This fear in the minds of minorities is the aim of the BJP/RSS regime.”

The resolution said that during the course of the Bharat Jodo Yatra, it was clear that majority of Indians yearn for love, peace and harmony.

Raj youth killed in Haryana: Owaisi slams Modi govt over activities of ‘gau rakshaks’

    [ad_1]

Thane: All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen chief Asaduddin Owaisi on Saturday attacked the Narendra Modi government for going soft on ‘gau rakshak’ vigilante groups claiming these serve the purpose of the Bharatiya Janata Party.

Speaking to reporters in Navi Mumbai, where the national executive meeting of his party is being held, the Lok Sabha MP from Telangana also said alliances for the upcoming civic polls, as well as Lok Sabha and Assembly polls in Maharashtra next year will be decided in due course.

Referring to the killings of two men from Rajasthan in Haryana on February 16, Owaisi said the Modi government had given a long rope to such ‘gau rakshaks’ (cow protectors).

Nasir and Junaid, both residents of Ghatmeeka village in Bharatpur district of Rajasthan, were allegedly abducted by cow vigilantes on February 15 and their bodies were found in a charred car in Loharu in Haryana’s Bhiwani the next day.

An FIR was registered on February 16 at Gopalgarh police station against five people under Indian Penal Code sections 302 (murder) 143 (unlawful assembly), 365 (kidnapping), 367 (grievously hurt after kidnapping) and 368 (wrongfully keeping in confinement) and 201 (causing disappearance of evidence).

“This is nothing but state sponsored violence against Muslims. The activities of such groups further the purpose of the BJP. They (BJP) want to create hatred against Muslims,” Owaisi said.

The Modi government can take action against the BBC for an adverse documentary, an apparent reference to Income Tax department searches against the new agency, while such “terror groups” go untouched, Owaisi alleged.

Bhiwani killings: ‘Even if burnt corpses of Junaid, Nasir..’, Owaisi slams Khattar

    [ad_1]

On the recent horirifying incident in Haryana’s Bhiwani where two Muslim men from Rajasthan were allegedly kidnapped, lynched and burnt in a Bolero car, AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi on Wednesday slammed Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar and asked if even the burnt corpses of Junaid and Nasir, the two dead victims couldnt wake up his conscience, it doesnt matter whether he is the chief minister or not.

“If your police are done with the meat of Biryani on Eid, then tell me when will the killers of Junaid-Nasir be arrested? When will those who spew venom in the Mahapanchayat go to jail? If even the burnt corpses of Junaid-Nasir could not wake up your conscience, then it is the same whether you are Chief Minister or not,” he said.

Owaisi was referring to the Hindu Mahapanchayat that was organised by the main accused Monu Manesar’s supporters where an open threat to the Rajasthan police was issued.

One of the speakers said, “If the Rajasthan police dare to come and arrest Monu from his home, then we assure them that they will not go back in their two feet.”

“It is because of Monu and his people that Manesar is able to save cows for the last eight years. Had it not been for them, the village would have turned into a mini Pakistan,” the speaker added among cheers from the crowd.

The Mahapanchayat at Manesar’s Baba Bhimsa temple was attended by villagers who proudly regarded Monu as the ‘Pride of Hindus’.

“Khattar saheb has washed his hands off the responsibility of investigating the case and has put the entire responsibility on the Rajasthan Police. While the murder took place in Haryana. This clearly shows that the BJP government of Haryana is trying to save the cow vigilante gang.

Even before this incident, all these criminals were working under the protection of BJP government and Haryana Police. It is BJP’s policy to save the oppressor and not give justice to the oppressed. Dayar e yaar teri josh e junoon pe salaam Mere watan tere daman e tar tar ki khair,” he further tweeted.

    UK slams ‘protectionist’ Biden

    Voiced by artificial intelligence.

LONDON — Joe Biden’s “protectionist” Inflation Reduction Act won’t help the U.S. counter the rise of China and could create a “single point of failure” in key supply chains, Britain’s trade chief Kemi Badenoch warned.

Speaking at a POLITICO event Tuesday night, Badenoch — recently promoted to head up the U.K.’s new Department for Business and Trade — predicted the flagship law would not achieve its key aims, and insisted the U.K. is not sitting on the sidelines in the transatlantic tussle over the plan.

The comments came just minutes after the U.S. ambassador to the U.K. mounted a spirited defense of the IRA at the same event.

The Inflation Reduction Act offers billions in subsidies and tax credits to try and incentivize take-up of electric vehicles and build up green infrastructure. But European and British carmakers are particularly concerned about the impact on their own industries of massive help for U.S. firms.

Speaking on Tuesday night, Badenoch said Britain — which has been lobbying against the plan but is not prepping its own subsidies — is “working very well with a group of like-minded countries who are worried about the Inflation Reduction Act.”

“The EU is very worried and we’re working jointly with them on it,” she said. “It’s not just the EU doing stuff and we’re not in the room. Japan is worried. South Korea is worried. Switzerland is worried.”

Many countries, Badenoch contended, are now “looking at what the U.S. is doing” with concern.

“It is onshoring in a way that could actually create problems with the supply chain for everybody else,” she said.

“And that will not have the impact that it wants to have when it’s looking at the economic challenge that China presents. So no, I don’t think it’s a good idea, not just because it’s protectionist. But it also creates a single point of failure in a different place, when actually what we want is diversification and strengthening of supply chains across the board.”

Speaking earlier Tuesday night, U.S. Ambassador to the U.K. Jane Hartley argued that the plan could have major positive implications for countries beyond the U.S.

“One of the things I would say is there’s going to be a huge amount of money, R&D — the technology is going to improve, the technology is going to be cheaper,” she said. “The technology is going to be used by everyone in the world — not just the U.S.”

Hartley stressed that U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen is “looking pretty hard” at the act during its so-called comment period, when U.S. agencies take feedback on a plan. Both President Biden and U.S. Trade Secretary Katherine Tai had, she said, stressed that their country “didn’t do this to hurt our allies — we want to protect our allies.”

CORRECTION: A previous version of this article misstated Janet Yellen’s job title. She is the treasury secretary.

‘Vulgur content’: Internet slams Pak university over incest question

    [ad_1]

A professor was fired and blacklisted by Islamabad-based COMSATS University after he set a question regarding incest in an examination of Bachelor of Electrical Engineering (BEE) students in December last year.

The question asked students to write an essay about a particular passage involving an incestuous relationship between siblings Julie and Mark.

“Julie and Mark are brother and sister. They are traveling together in France on summer vacation from college,” reads the question.

“One night they are staying alone in a cabin near the beach. They decided that it would be interesting and fun if they tried making love. At the very least, it would be a new experience for each of them,” it read.

“Julie is on birth control while Mark uses a condom and they both enjoyed being intimate together although they vowed never to do it again,” the passage concludes.

Students were asked to share their views about the scenario and if it was fine for Julie and Mark to “make love”. They were also asked to give reasons and “include some relevant examples”.

A screenshot of the question paper was shared on the social media platform Twitter raising concerns and condemnation. Many, including celebrities and student bodies, termed it as ‘vulgar content’ and demanded the chancellor, as well as the vice-chancellor, be questioned.

The professor has been identified as Khair ul Bashar, according to New York Post.

The university has released a statement regarding the issue stating, “The content of the quiz is highly objectionable and totally against the curriculum laws of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan and caused unrest amongst the families of the students.”

“Demeans women to such extent…” YSRTP chief Sharmila slams KCR

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: Having decided to approach the Women’s Commission against Chief Minister Chandrashekar Rao, YSR Telangana Party (YSRTP) chief YS Sharmila on Monday said that women are not respected during KCR’s rule in the state.

Speaking to ANI, Sharmila said, “It is evident that KCR fears Sharmila. Since my padayatra crossed 3,000 km milestone, KCR’s goons have been trying to foil this.

Women are not respected in Telangana. Ruling party leaders using derogatory language against me since I entered politics and began padayatra.”

“Just because we are taking it up does not mean you demean women to such an extent. We have decided today to go to the Women’s Commission and give a complaint,” she added.

Earlier on Sunday, Telangana Police detained YS Sharmila for allegedly making inappropriate remarks against the Mahabubabad MLA and Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader Shankar Naik.

Asked about the complaint against her over her alleged objectionable comments against MLA Shankar Naik, the YSRTP chief said, “Shankar Naik, an ST, called me a ‘eunuch’ to which I replied saying, ‘Who is the eunuch? Are not you the eunuch?’ That is the only thing I did. Is it my fault to reply?”

“They are saying that there can be action but there should not be a reaction from me. Just because I responded and asked him the same question, cases are being filed against me, that too an SC/ST Atrocity case. How fair is this? Is not this misusing that law?” added Sharmila.

On Sunday, YSRTP Chief said that Telangana is the Afghanistan of India and KCR is its Taliban.
Speaking to reporters in Mahbubabad, Sharmila said, “He (Telangana CM KCR) is a dictator, he is a tyrant, there is no Indian Constitution in Telangana, there is only KCR’s Constitution. Telangana is the Afghanistan of India and KCR is its Taliban.”

Telangana Police detained YS Sharmila on Sunday for allegedly making inappropriate remarks against the BRS MLA Shankar Naik.

The police moved her to Hyderabad to avoid any law and order problems in the town of Mahabubabad. They registered a case against her under section 504 of the Indian Penal Code Intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace] and section 3(1)r of the SC ST POA Act.

Addressing a public meeting, YS Sharmila allegedly attacked the Mahabubabad MLA for not fulfilling his promises and said, “You gave many promises to the people, which you have not fulfilled. If you are not fulfilling your promises, that means you are a kojja [castrate],” she said in a public meeting on Saturday.

Following the incident, the Bharat Rashtra Samithi staged a sit-in protest in the district against YS Sharmila for her alleged derogatory remarks against Mahabubabad MLA.

The protestors on the road were showing their rage against the YSRTP chief by sloganeering “Go Back Sharmila” and burning the hoardings and flexes of the party.

BJP slams post showing Jagan feeding milk to child dressed as Lord Shiva

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: BJP’s Andhra Pradesh co-incharge Sunil Deodhar has criticised a Twitter post in which Andhra CM Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy is seen feeding milk to a child dressed as Lord Shiva, calling it “highly insulting”.

The YSR Congress Party’s post on Saturday was shared on Twitter by Deodhar that read ‘#YSRCP_Insults_Mahadeva’.

“A CM who aggressively converts Hindus to Christianity is now openly insulting Hindus by posting such a cartoon,” a Twitter user posted on Sunday while sharing the YSR Congress’ illustration that was displayed on the occasion of Mahashivratri. That post was re-tweeted by Deodhar.

“A party run by liquor mafia and the Chief Minister who is out on bail does not have the moral right to preach Hindus whom they should feed on festivals,” the post on Twitter by the BJP National Secretary read.

Deodhar also shared a video of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minsiter doing ‘Abhishekam’ of Lord Shiva, saying: “What’s this video, Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy? Political drama to woo Hindus for capturing power?”

Stating that animal worship is also a form of God worship, he asked Jagan Mohan Reddy as to why such tweets and ‘preachings’ are not made by him on Bakrid and Christmas.

  • Haryana: Cops use water cannons on protesting employees; Hooda slams action

Haryana: Cops use water cannons on protesting employees; Hooda slams action

    [ad_1]

Chandigarh: The Haryana Police on Sunday used water cannons and teargas on thousands of protesting government employees demanding restoration of the Old Pension Scheme (OPS).

Coming out in support of employees, former Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda condemned using force against the protesting employees in Panchkula. He said the employees were protesting for legitimate demands.

“Cane-charge and use of teargas on a peaceful protest is highly condemnable. In a democracy, the government runs through dialogue, but Haryana’s BJP-JJP alliance wants to run the government through sticks and bullets,” he said.

The Leader of Opposition said the Congress supports the demand of the employees and promised to strongly raise the issue in the forthcoming Budget session of the Vidhan Sabha.

“If the present government does not accept the demands of the employees, a decision will be taken to implement OPS in the very first cabinet meeting after the formation of the Congress government in the state. The old-pension scheme has already been implemented in Congress-ruled Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh and Himachal Pradesh. Employees in Haryana will also get benefits on the same lines.”

Talking to the media after the Congress Legislature Party meeting here, he said the MLAs discussed party strategy in the assembly in detail.

Congress MLAs have given more than two dozen calling attention and adjournment motions in the assembly session and dozens of other issues will also be raised during the Zero Hour.

He said the Congress would raise family identity card, cut in pension of senior citizens, cut in BPL card, illegal mining, NGT cases, unemployment, demand for OPS, privatization of education, etc.

When asked about the budget, Hooda said nothing can be expected from this government after seeing the record of the last eight years.

Ahead of the meeting, delegations of agitating employees for OPS, sportspersons, ration depot holders, private college employees, Sarva Karmachari Sangh and farmers met Hooda and handed over a memorandum regarding their demands.

Hooda asked the government to take cognizance of their demands.

Maryam Nawaz slams Imran for using women as shield

    [ad_1]

Lahore: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Vice-President Maryam Nawaz on Saturday censured Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan for “hiding in a bunker” and using “women as a shield”, media reports said.

The PML-N scion, during an informal discussion with journalists in Lahore, spoke about the PTI chief hiding inside a burrow and avoiding appearing in courts – in reference to the ex-Prime Minister residing at his Lahore residence and not appearing before the judges despite being repeatedly ordered to do so, Geo News reported.

Khan – the country’s deposed Prime Minister whose government was ousted after a no-confidence motion in the National Assembly in April last year – on Friday announced kickstarting his party’s ‘Jail Bharo’ (court arrest) movement from February 17, starting from Lahore.

The PTI Chairman’s decision comes as he blames the Pakistan Democratic Movement-led coalition government for resorting to the “political victimisation” of his party’s leaders.

“We will fill jails, they [authorities] will have no space left to hide,” Khan said in his address to the nation via video link a day earlier.

“Imran Khan [came into power] through the establishment’s support and is now trying to use the judiciary. His deeds are about to be exposed,” Maryam said while also slamming the PTI chief for not leaving the “bunker”, Geo News reported.

The senior PML-N leader added that the PTI chief drafted a 12-year plan to rule the country; however, his plans were thwarted by her party’s supremo Nawaz Sharif.

“Imran Khan wanted to make the next appointment, but could not do so,” she said in an apparent reference to the army chief’s appointment. “Nawaz Sharif did not panic and his [Khan’s] plan failed,” she claimed.
