Bullet train ‘feasible’ but metro for Hyderabad isn’t: Owaisi slams centre

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: AIMIM chief and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi on Wednesday slammed the BJP-led centre for calling the proposed second phase of the Hyderabad metro rail ‘unfeasible’.

The proposed second phase of metro rail for building the 26 km Rs 8,453 crore elevated metro rail corridor from Lakdikapul to BHEL and extension of phase one metro rail project of 5 km from Nagole to LB Nagar is “not feasible at this juncture considering the proposed ridership and Passengers per Hour Per Direction (PHPD) is very less”

The Centre in an official communication to the Telangana government has suggested it to take up ‘other modes’ of transport or provide a ‘feeder system’. It also asked for a roadmap for the densification of proposed transit stations for enhancing ridership and furnishing the Transit Oriented Development (TOD) policy.

“Absolutely condemnable decision by Modi govt For Modi wasteful expenditure like Bullet Train is “feasible” just to show off to foreigners. But metro for Hyderabadis isn’t feasible! Govt must reverse this decision & should also fund MGBS-Falaknuma line,” he tweeted.

Taking a strong objection to the centre’s call, Telangana minister KT Rama Rao had written a letter to the Union minister for Housing & Urban Affairs Hardeep Singh Puri to reconsider the Centre’s decision.

KTR said that it was strange that the Government of India which had sanctioned metro projects to many cities with less traffic had felt that Hyderabad does not qualify for a Metro Rail project.

The minister said that it was nothing but ‘blatant discrimination’ against Telangana. “If the traffic of Hyderabad’s high-density corridors does not qualify for a Metro Rail project, I wonder how a number of small cities of UP like Lucknow, Varanasi, Kanpur, Agra, Prayag Raj, Meerut and cities located in some of their favoured states get qualified. This is nothing but pure discrimination and step-motherly treatment to Hyderabad and Telangana,” minister KTR said.

The minister pointed out that his multiple attempts to meet Union minister Hardeep Singh Puri to explain the importance of Hyderabad Metro Phase II ‘went in vain’. “Given your professional background, I had hoped that you would ensure the fair and objective treatment to our infrastructure development proposals without any bias or prejudice,” the minister mentioned in his letter to Puri.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom slammed Tennessee Sen. Marsha Blackburn on Twitter Monday night for voting against gun safety laws and accepting over $1 million in donations from the NRA over her career after the senator tweeted she was “ready to assist” in the wake of the deadly elementary school shooting in Nashville.

Blackburn, a Republican, tweeted on Monday, “Chuck & I are heartbroken to hear about the shooting at Covenant School in Nashville. My office is in contact with federal, state, & local officials, & we stand ready to assist. Thank you to the first responders working on site. Please join us in prayer for those affected.”

Later that night, Newsom responded with, “You received $1,306,130 in donations from the NRA. You voted against the most recent bipartisan gun package in June. If you’re so ‘ready to assist’ — start by doing your job and passing commonsense gun laws that will help prevent tragedies like the one today.”

  • Cong slams Smriti Irani for criticising its leadership, says ‘sanskar’ of RSS

Cong slams Smriti Irani for criticising its leadership, says ‘sanskar’ of RSS

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: The Congress on Tuesday hit back at Union minister Smriti Irani for her scathing criticism of its leadership over the alleged remarks by the party’s youth wing president Srinivas BV, saying the words she used were of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the ‘sanskar’ are of the RSS.

Irani on Tuesday hit out at the Congress leadership over the alleged remarks by Srinivas BV against her, saying the words he used were of Rahul Gandhi and the ‘sanskar’ of Sonia Gandhi.

The BJP leader also alleged that Congress members who want “promotion” will continue to make “such kind of comments” against her so long as Sonia and Rahul Gandhi are there in the party.

Hitting back at Irani, Congress spokesperson Supriya Shrinate said, “Smriti Irani ji why do you play the victim card? I have a question — You keep silent on Lakhimpur-Hathras incident, Shahjahanpur sexual abuse. You remain silent even when a BJP MP calls a woman MP -an MLA ‘Vaishali ki nagarvadhu’? You apologize to this country.”

The problem is that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP do not have the answers to the questions asked by Rahul Gandhi on the Adani issue, Shrinate said at a press conference.

“What kind of love story is this that the country’s PM, ministers and MPs are saving Adani by putting every convention aside,” she said.

“Today Smriti Irani ji has given a very low statement. After listening to his statement, I can say this — ‘The words are of Narendra Modi and ‘sanskar’ are of RSS’ According to which — lie, lie again and again and spread bad propaganda,” Shrinate said.

The BJP on Monday attacked Srinivas BV over his allegedly disparaging remarks against Irani, saying the Congress has become a “cesspool of misogyny”.

The youth Congress reacted strongly to the charges, claiming BJP leaders were sharing a doctored video of the speech made by Srinivas to tarnish his and the party’s image. “It is nothing but a disinformation and fake news campaign initiated by BJP supporters and office bearers,” it said in a statement.

The alleged remarks were made by Srinivas at the Sankalp Satyagrah organised by the Congress at the Rajghat to protest against the disqualification of Rahul Gandhi as Lok Sabha MP following his conviction by a Surat court in a defamation case.

In a clip of his speech delivered in Hindi, Srinivas can be heard saying, “The BJP means inflation. These same people in 2014 used to say that there is inflation witch which has been made to sit… Smriti Irani has become a little mute and deaf. That witch (Daayan)… Inflation witch (Mehengaai Daayan) has been made a darling and made to sit in the bedroom.”

  • Centre’s contribution to SDRF is 75% , state share only 25%: Reddy slams KCR

Centre’s contribution to SDRF is 75% , state share only 25%: Reddy slams KCR

    [ad_1]

Delhi: Union Minister G Kishan Reddy on Monday slammed Telangana Chief Minister and Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) chief K Chandrashekhar Rao and said that 75 per cent of the funds in the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) are provided by the central government while the state share in SDRF is only 25 per cent, adding it is extremely unfortunate that farmers of Telangana have suffered losses due to the recent untimely rains across the state.

The Union minister said, “It is an undeniable fact that 75 per cent of the funds in SDRF are provided by the central government. The state share in SDRF is only 25 per cent. From 2014-15 to date, the Central Government has released Rs 2,196.60 crore to Telangana State SDRF.

In addition, RS 873.27 crore has been released under NDRF. Together with SDRF and NDRF, a total of Rs 3,069.87 crore has been provided by the central government to Telangana state. In 2022-2023, The Central Government has contributed the first instalment of Rs 188.80 crore and another Rs 188.80 crore will be transferred to the State SDRF for the financial year 2022-23.”

Stating that it is the responsibility of the government to support the farmers who have suffered losses, he said, “It is extremely unfortunate that the farmers of Telangana have suffered losses due to the recent untimely rains across the state of Telangana.”

Alleging that the KCR government of not helping the farmers, he said, “Keeping this in mind, the Government of India led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi introduced the ‘Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana’ scheme. The Telangana government, which initially joined the scheme, later withdrew from the scheme without giving any reasons.”

“This has now led to a situation where farmers of Telangana can no longer get compensation for crop losses due to unseasonal rains, natural disasters and other unforeseen calamities.

Unfortunately, the state government does not have any clarity or specific plan in terms of providing compensation to farmers who have suffered losses due to various reasons. Without any such plan it withdrew from the ‘Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana’ purely on political grounds,” Reddy added.

“Since then till today the farmers of Telangana who have lost their crops in the state are facing difficulties without getting proper compensation. At the same time, during the implementation of ‘Fasal Bima Yojana’ many farmers were benefited by it.

In the states where this scheme is being implemented, lakhs of farmers who have lost crops are getting compensation,” he further remarked.

Targeting Telangana Chief Minister KCR, he said, “It is unfortunate that the Chief Minister of the state, who recently visited the areas where crops were damaged due to untimely rains in the state, blamed the central government regarding compensation to the farmers.

While blaming the Government of India on one hand, the State Government has issued a memo to provide compensation to the farmers from the State Disaster Response Fund.”

“As on April 1, 2022, the State SDRF account had funds of Rs 608.06 crore as balance available in its account. Along with the first instalment of Rs 188.80 crore Central share of SDRF for the year 2022-23 released, on July 22, 2022, and the corresponding state share, the SDRF has a corpus of approximately Rs 860 crore.

This means that currently there are enough funds in the state SDRF to provide the necessary assistance to the farmers who have lost their crops. If the state government really loves the farmers, then I demand compensation from the treasury of the state government along with the compensation given by SDRF,” he added.

Alleging that the Chief Minister is trying to get publicity, he said, “Although the central government is providing assistance to the victims of the natural calamities in the state of Telangana, the Chief Minister is blaming the central government. It is clear that instead of understanding the plight of the farmers who have lost their crops and helping them, the CM is focused on blaming the Centre and gaining publicity.”

Stating that the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) government in the state was misleading the people, the Union Minister said, “It is foolish of Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leaders to hide the truth and mislead the people in the current time when technology has developed so much. However, I suggest that the KCR government should refrain from spreading lies and tell the truth in front of the people.”

Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao last Thursday visited rain-affected areas in a few districts of the state and assured the farmers of financial assistance for cross losses.

He announced a compensation of Rs 10,000 per acre for farmers who lost their crops due to recent unseasonal rains and hailstorms, informed the government.

CM KCR while addressing the Ramapuram village of Khammam district, said, “Due to the rains, there was a loss of 2,28,250 acres of crops throughout the state. Out of this, maize crops suffered the maximum damage of 1,29,446 acres.

As per the central government norms, they won’t get much money. In the Telangana government, along with putting in big investments and completing the pending and new projects, we are implementing farmer support schemes that are not there anywhere else in the world.

With it, the farmers are also getting stable and coming out of their debts. Despite that, they are some fools who say that we won’t get anything from agriculture. Today Telangana is first in per capita income in the country. We have the highest per capita income, more than Maharashtra. In the GSDP growth rate, farming plays a vital role.”

“Farmers don’t have to feel bad about it as the government is with you”, he said assuring support to the farmers.
“After BRS was formed we have been saying that India requires a total integrated agricultural policy. For funds, we have to write a report to the Centre and we don’t know when they will give it. We don’t want to depend on the Centre as it takes six months to respond,” said the BRS chief.

  • ‘What bigger message than OBC being made Rajasthan CM thrice’: Gehlot slams BJP

‘What bigger message than OBC being made Rajasthan CM thrice’: Gehlot slams BJP

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot Sunday slammed the BJP over its charge that Rahul Gandhi insulted OBCs with his remark in 2019, and said his party has done a lot for backward classes which include making an OBC leader like him CM thrice.

Gandhi was on Thursday sentenced to two years in jail by a Surat court in a 2019 criminal defamation case over his “why all thieves have Modi surname” remark.

Several BJP leaders, including party chief J P Nadda, have accused Gandhi of insulting Other Backward Classes (OBCs) through his remark.

Addressing a gathering at the daylong “Sankalp Satyagraha” of the Congress at the Rajghat, Gehlot said Prime Minister Narendra Modi conducted an “experiment” in Gujarat polls in 2017 by saying that a Congress leader abused him about his caste.

And in a repeat of that, the BJP is claiming again before elections that Rahul Gandhi insulted OBCs, Gehlot said

“In 2017, when the BJP was losing the Gujarat elections, Modi ji played the OBC card against the Congress there. The BJP today again wants to run a campaign to mislead the OBCs,” he alleged.

Are fugitives like Nirav Modi and Lalit Modi OBCs, he asked.

“You are protecting fugitives such as Nirav Modi and Lalit Modi, and then saying Rahul Gandhi insulted OBCs,” he said.

Gehlot said can anyone forget what the Congress has done for OBCs and SCs and STs.

“I have been made CM for the third time by Sonia ji, Rahul ji. I am an OBC. There is only one member of OBC Mali community (in the assembly) and that is me,” he said.

Gehlot said what “bigger message” could be for the OBCs there than him being made chief minister again and again.

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel is also comes from the OBC community, he pointed out.

Elections are coming and that is why they are raising this bogey of OBC insult, he alleged. “It is baseless.”

He said the sacrifices of the Gandhi family are before everyone and Rahul Gandhi is constantly raising the issue of unemployment and high prices.

“They could not answer on allegations raised in Parliament by Rahul Gandhi. I have never seen before that allegations are raised but instead of answering, the prime minister has taken a vow of silence,” Gehlot said.

The BJP raised allegations against Gandhi for his remarks abroad, when he said what he had been saying in the country, he said.

It is the PM who should answer and apologise, Gehlot said.

“Rahul Gandhi has emerged as the voice of the country. We will keep fighting to ensure that democracy is kept alive in the country,” he said.

  • Owaisi slams BJP for scrapping 4% Muslim quota in Karnataka

Owaisi slams BJP for scrapping 4% Muslim quota in Karnataka

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi on Saturday slammed the BJP-led Karnataka government for abolishing the 4 percent reservation for Muslims in the state.

He termed the decision as part of PM Narendra Modi’s ‘Muslim outreach’ program.

“Karnataka BJP govt removes reservation for poor Muslims in education & jobs This is @narendramodi’s “Muslim outreach” & love for Pasmanda Muslims. Whether it’s hijab or reservations, the target is Muslims’ progress in education & employment,” he tweeted.

The Karnataka government on Friday announced its decision to scrap the four percent quota for minorities and added it to the existing quota of two dominant communities of the poll-bound state.

The 4 per cent reservation given to Muslims under 2B classification of the OBC category will now be divided into two equal parts and added to the existing quota of Vokkaligas and Lingayats for whom two new reservation categories of 2C and 2D were created during the Belagavi Assembly Session last year.

The cabinet decided to bring the religious minorities under the EWS category.

The decision comes ahead of the Assembly elections.

Briefing reporters after the cabinet meeting on Friday, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said the religious minorities quota would be done away with and brought under the 10 percent pool of the EWS category without any change of condition.

“The four percent (reservation for minorities) will be divided into two between 2C and 2D. The four percent reservation for the Vokkaligas and others will be enhanced to six percent and Veerashaiva Panchamasali and others (Lingayats), who are getting five percent reservation will now get seven percent,” the CM explained.

The Cabinet had abolished the 3A and 3B categories of reservation for Vokkaligas and Lingayats respectively and replaced them with two new categories of 2C and 2D last December.

Defending the decision to abolish the quota for Muslims, Bommai said there was no constitutional provision for religious minorities.

Citing a court verdict striking down the reservation provided for minorities in Andhra Pradesh, the CM said the architect of the Indian Constitution B R Ambedkar too had said that reservations were for caste.

“However, we cannot drop that community entirely. With a view that there should not be any problem, the religious minorities…if someone challenges reservation to them, we decided to take a proactive decision. In fact they will go from 4 per cent to the 10 percent pool of the EWS group without any change of condition,” Bommai explained.

Muslims are divided into three reservation categories 1, 2A and 2B.

The extremely backward religious minorities, who form the sub-sects of Muslims such as Pinjara, Nadaf, Daroji, Chapparband and are enlisted in category 1, will remain undisturbed and in the same reservation list.

Similarly, the government did not touch the Muslim communities under 2A category.

“Some other Muslim sub-sects in the 2B category will not be disturbed. They will only be moved to the EWS quota on the same conditions,” Bommai said.

There are some more small backward communities, who find mention in the Backward Commission’s report.

“They never figured in any list including the backward list. They are not in any category. Regarding them, the Backward Commission has mentioned in its second list. I will study the report in detail. Our government will take further decision on it in the coming cabinet.

Already, a recommendation has been sent to the Centre to include two shepherd communities Kadu Kuruba’ and Gonda Kuruba’ spread over four districts in the ST category.

Further, the Union government has made some references to two to three communities including Kadu Gollaru and Koli communities seeking the opinion of the department.

Bommai also said that the government will notify the communities under the EWS category.

Also, a decision was taken with regard to the SC community that 6 percent reservation would be given to SC left sub-category, 5.5 per cent to SC right, 4.5 per cent to touchables and 1 per cent to others.

Hailing the announcement, Adichunchanagiri Math pontiff and Vokkaliga leader Nirmalanandanatha Swami said the demand was made for 12 per cent reservation keeping in view the condition of the community.

“Given the situation, the government has increased the reservation from four per cent to six per cent for which we thank the government. We welcome the move,” he said.

The Panchamasali community of the Lingayat sect and the Vokkaligas have been demanding a hike in reservation for quite a long time.

MP minister slams Cong over ‘no confidence’ motion against Assembly Speaker

    [ad_1]

Bhopal: Senior BJP leader and Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Narottam Mishra on Tuesday lashed out at Congress over a ‘no confidence’ motion against Assembly Speaker Girish Gautam.

Even after the Speaker agreed to allow discussion on ‘no confidence’ motion brought by the Congress, Mishra, who is also parliamentary affairs minister of the state assembly, opposed the decision arguing that “if it will set up a wrong precedence.”

The Congress had brought ‘no confidence’ motion against Assembly Speaker Girish Gautam for his decision to suspend former minister and Congress MLA Jitu Patwari from the House for entire budget session for allegedly sharing false information.

Accusing the Speaker of being ‘biased’ and ‘acting at behest of the ruling BJP’, the Congress had then brought a ‘no confidence’ motion against him in the first week of this month.

On Tuesday, the opposition asked the Speaker to allow for discussion over ‘no confidence’ motion against him. Speaker Girish Gautam agreed with the Congress legislatures demand and fixed the March 27 for discussion on the matter.

However, Narottam Mishra opposed the decision saying – “No confidence motion can not be brought against the Speaker.”

“If the opposition has any doubt on Speaker’s role, they should bring a ‘sankalp patra’ resolution letter. If today this no confidence motion was accepted, it would set up a wrong precedence in history of Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly. It has never happened before it, but the Congress wants to set a wrong president, which is totally unacceptable,” Mishra argued.

Mishra further said he has been asserting the same things since the day ‘no confidence’ against the Assembly Speaker was brought in the House, however, the Congress was in ‘sleeping mode’ and now “when just one day is left for the budget session, they (Congress leaders) have got up.”

Meanwhile, he also alleged that the Congress legislatures did not support their leader in the House.

“Govind Singh is the Leader of the Opposition in the House, but the Congress leaders are not supporting him. They are following the directions given by Kamal Nath, who never sit in the House even for a single day. Even when he (Kamal Nath) was chief minister, he did not sit in the House for a day. Groupism in the Congress is in a way that they are sidelining their own leader- Govind Singh.”

Telangana: KTR slams BJP for Mehul Choksi’s name drop from Interpol list

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: Telangana IT minister KT Rama Rao on Tuesday hit out at the Bharatiya Janata Party for the diamantaire Mehul Choksi’s removal from the Interpol database of Red Notices and asked if there was a ‘special exemption for fraudsters from Gujarat’.

He tweeted and said that “Modi hai toh mumkin hai” alleging that prime minister Narendra Modi was behind the letting off of Choksi.

Referring to a video clip where the prime minister was seen addressing Mehul Choksi as “Hamare Mehul Bhai”, the Telangana minister tweeted, “Mehul Choksi Bhai, Yet Another cousin of Raja Satya Harishchandra who only committed a small bank fraud of ₹13,500 Crore given an NoC allowing him to travel Scot-free”

In a major setback to Indian probe agencies, the Interpol removed fugitive Mehul Choksi, accused of committing an Rs 11,356.84 crore loan fraud case with the Punjab National Bank (PNB), from its ‘red’ notice list.

Choksi was added to the red notice list in December 2018. As per sources, authorities concerned with the Indian government objected to the move of Interpol but it didn’t budge on the decision.

‘Modani Model’: Cong slams Mehul Choksi’s name drop from Interpol list

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: The Congress on Tuesday hit out at the BJP-led government over fugitive diamantaire Mehul Choksi’s removal from the Interpol database of Red Notices, saying while the Opposition was being targeted by the Enforcement Directorate and CBI, its “friend” was being let off.

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge said talk of patriotism by those giving “protection” to such people is a “joke”.

In a tweet, former Congress chief Rahul Gandhi said, “‘Vipaksh ko ED, CBI, Mitr ko rihaai’ (ED, CBI for the Opposition, let off for friend).”

“‘Modani’ model matlab pehle looto, phir bin sazaa ke chooto’ (Modani model means first loot and then go scott-free without punishment),” he said.

Speaking with reporters before leaving for Parliament, Kharge said, “They are doing things to divert attention from real issues. Our embassies are being attacked. People who have run away with money from banks, Mehul Choksi, those giving protection to such people talk about patriotism, it is a joke.” the Congress president told reporters before leaving for Parliament.

“We will ask the government to clarify on this,” he said.

Choksi, wanted in a Rs 13,000-crore scam in the Punjab National Bank, is understood to have been removed from the Interpol database of Red Notices on the basis of his plea to the Lyon-headquartered agency, people in the know of the development had said.

Earlier in a tweet in Hindi, Kharge said, “ED-CBI for opposition leaders but release from Interpol for ‘our Mehul bhai’ of Modi ji. When Parliament can be stalled for ‘best friend’, then how can help for the ‘old friend ‘ be denied who absconded five years ago”.

“Thousands of crores of the country were lost and ‘Na khaane doonga’ became another ‘jumla’,” the Congress chief also said.

On the BJP’s attack on Rahul Gandhi, Kharge told reporters that the question of an apology doesn’t arise.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Tuesday charged that Gandhi is the present day Mir Jafar of Indian polity.

“It would not be an aberration to say that Rahul Gandhi is a present day Mir Jafar of Indian polity. What he has done in London is the same thing that Mir Jafar did,” BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra told a press conference

Parliament has remained paralysed due to protests from rival sides.

While the BJP has demanded an “unambiguous apology” from Gandhi for his remarks in the UK that democracy in India is “under attack”, several opposition parties have accused the government that it does not want Parliament to function and is finding ways to divert attention from their demand for a Joint Parliamentary Committee probe (JPC) into allegations against the Adani Group.
