Priyanka slams KCR govt for bearing witness to 8,000 farmer suicides in state since 2014

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Monday accused the Telangana government of failing to fulfil the aspirations of people with the requirement of water, funds and jobs not being provided to them so far even as the state witnessed suicides of 8,000 farmers since 2014 when the party came to power.

Attacking the BRS government in a public meeting here, she alleged that only those who are close to the ruling party are getting jobs, water and funds.

“(Around) 8,000 farmers committed suicide from 2014. Every day on an average approximately three farmers committed suicide,” she charged.

Referring to Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao’s regime, she said the dispensation thinks that Telangana is their “jagir (estate) and they are the new Jagirdars (estate owning class)”.

At the event, the Congress released ‘Youth Declaration’, a commitment to the youth of Telangana, if the party comes to power in the state, in the presence of Vadra.

Congress slams Manipur CM over violence

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: The Congress on Sunday hit out at Chief Minister N Biren Singh over the situation in Manipur, saying he cannot absolve himself and “his patrons in New Delhi and Nagpur” of the responsibility for the horrific violence and killings in the state.

The Congress’ attack came a day after Singh, who heads a BJP-led government in Manipur, chaired an all-party meeting over the prevailing situation in the violence-hit state.

In a tweet, Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh said, “The CM of Manipur finally condescended to meet with all political parties and some civil society groups. But he cannot absolve himself and his patrons in New Delhi and Nagpur of the responsibility for the horrific violence and killings in the state.”

    MS Education Academy

The Congress has been warning of the consequences of what the RSS/BJP has been doing in the northeast, he said.

“But now is the time for a collective resolve to bring Manipur to peace and harmony,” Ramesh added.

Violent clashes broke out between tribals and people belonging to the majority Meitei community in Manipur on Wednesday, displacing thousands of people and killing at least 54.

The clashes broke out after a ‘Tribal Solidarity March’ was organised in the 10 hill districts to protest against the Meitei community’s demand for Scheduled Tribe status.

”Tu Secular’ certificate to RSS man’: Owaisi slams Congress

    [ad_1]

Asaduddin Owaisi, the leader of the All India Majlis-E-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM), criticised former Congress President Sonia Gandhi when she campaigned in Karnataka’s Hubballi for Jagadish Shettar, who just joined the party after cutting relations with the BJP.

Owaisi told a crowd in Hubballi on Saturday that he did not anticipate Sonia Gandhi to campaign for Jagadish Shettar, whom he referred to as “a man from the RSS.”

Jagadish Shettar resigned from the BJP last month after being denied a ticket to run in the Karnataka assembly elections on May 10. On a Congress ticket, he is running for the Hubballi-Dharwad Central Assembly constituency.

“Ye aapka Secularism hai? Tum aisey muqabala karogey Modi se? Madam Sonia Gandhi mujey summed nahi this aapsey ke aap ek RSS ke aadmi ke liye campaign karney aayengi. Jagdish Shettar toh RSS se aaya hai. Afsoos ki baat hai ki ideology ki ladai mei Congress nakaam hai,” he said slamming the Congress.

(Is this your Secularism? Is this how you will fight Modi? Masam Sonai Gandhi I did not expect that you will come and campaign for an RSS man. Jagdish Shettar had come from RSS. It is sad that Congress is unsuccessful in the war of ideology.)

He added that Congress welcomes those who leave BJP for the party terming them as secular.

“Congress ka mamala ye hai ke jo bjp se nikal gaya..inkey paas ek certificate ki dukaan hai..yun laga ke laga detey (acts out licking a paper to make it stick)..tu secular bolkey. (Congress believes that those who leave BJP are welcomed with a certificate that says “You are Secular”.)

Gehlot slams BJP over ‘assassination plot’ audio

    [ad_1]

Jaipur: Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot hit out at the BJP on Saturday over an alleged threat by a party candidate in Karnataka polls to wipe out Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and his family, asking when will the Centre break its silence on the indecent behaviour.

Sharing an audio clip on Twitter, Congress Karnataka in-charge Randeep Singh Surjewala has claimed that the BJP’s candidate from Chittapur constituency in Kalaburagi district, Manikanta Rathod, has hatched an assassination plot against Kharge and his family.

Rathod has rejected the allegation, saying it’s a fake audio, and Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai has said an investigation would be conducted to find out the authenticity of the recording.

    MS Education Academy

Sharing Surjewala’s tweet, Gehlot wrote in Hindi that Rathore’s voice is “showing” the real face of the BJP.

Fearing election defeat in Karnataka and the popularity of Kharge, the BJP is committing such heinous acts, Gehlot alleged. “When will the government break its silence on this indecent behaviour?” he asked.

In the audio clip shared by Surjewala, Rathore purportedly is heard saying in Kannada that he would “wipe out Kharge, his wife and children”.

Rajasthan Congress president Govind Singh Dotasra also targeted the BJP and its leaders on this issue.

“The BJP and the Modi government at the Centre are restless after Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra and are doing such activities which are very dangerous for democracy,” Dotasra told reporters here.

He said Rathore has given a “very shameful and condemnable” statement.

Hyderabad: Cong slams Telangana govt over rain-related deaths

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: Senior Telangana Congress leader Mohammed Shabbir Ali on Wednesday accused the state government, and Municipal Administration Minister KT Rama Rao (KTR) in particular, of ‘negligence’ leading to the loss of three innocent lives in rain-related incidents in the past four days.

He asserted that the government’s failure to address critical infrastructure issues, such as open drains and electrical safety, has resulted in these preventable tragedies.

“The first incident took place on 29 April when Mounika, a 10-year-old girl, fell into an open drain in Secunderabad due to alleged civic authority negligence. Despite the Disaster Response Force’s efforts, her life was cut short. While two GHMC officials were suspended, no senior officials faced any consequences,” he said.

    MS Education Academy

On 30 April, 44-year-old Greyhounds constable Solem Veeraswamy died of electrocution at the Jubilee Hills Checkpost. The tragedy occurred when Veeraswamy lost control of his motorcycle near a rainwater-filled puddle, which may have concealed a faulty electrical leakage from a nearby pole. Shabbir said this death could have been prevented had proper safety measures been in place.

The third incident saw six-year-old Vivek drown after falling into an open pit filled with rainwater in the Jubilee Hills area. GHMC has denied responsibility for this incident, claiming the site was on private property and not under its jurisdiction. However, Shabbir Ali argued that the government still has a duty to protect its citizens from such hazards.

Shabbir Ali criticized minister KTR for not visiting the victims’ families or the sites of these incidents, choosing instead to focus on inaugurating the new Secretariat. He pointed out the ‘recurring pattern of similar tragedies’ in Hyderabad over the years, with numerous citizens losing their lives due to open drains, house collapses, or electrocution. “Notable past incidents include the September 2016 heavy rains that claimed at least three lives, the August 2017 monsoon rains that led to at least two fatalities, and the October 2020 unprecedented rainfall resulting in an estimated death toll of at least 50,” Shabbir stated.

The former minister has written an open letter to Minister KTR calling for accountability and demanding that Minister KTR take responsibility for these incidents and hold concerned officials accountable. He has also demanded that the minister conduct a review meeting to address these infrastructure problems and prevent future tragedies.

Gross exaggeration, distortion of Kerala’s reality: Tharoor slams makers of The Kerala Story

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: Senior Congress leader Shashi Tharoor on Tuesday hit out at the makers of the movie “The Kerala Story”, accusing them of indulging in “gross exaggeration” and “distortion” of the state’s reality.

Tharoor’s assertion came in response to those accusing him of double standards over his criticism of the film, referring to his 2021 tweet in which he had said that he had been approached by three Kerala mothers whose daughters are stuck in Afghanistan having been taken there by their misguided husbands.

“The Kerala Story”, starring Adah Sharma, is set to be released in cinemas on May 5. Written and directed by Sudipto Sen, the film is portrayed as “unearthing” the events behind “approximately 32,000 women” allegedly going missing from Kerala.

    MS Education Academy

According to the CPI(M) and the Congress in Kerala, the film falsely claims that the women converted, got radicalised and were deployed in terror missions in India and the world.

In a lengthy Twitter post tagging his 2021 tweet on the three Kerala mothers who had approached him, Tharoor said, “Many are spreading this 2021 tweet of mine as if it undermines my present objections to the trailer and publicity for ‘The Kerala Story’.”

“Yes, I was approached then by three Kerala mothers and was aware of a fourth, and I was open about my concerns about their daughters’ radicalisation. But four cases are a far cry from the 32,000 that the film-makers are alleging,” the MP from Thiruvananthapuram said.

If there really were so many ISIS female members from Kerala, that would mean double the number when you count their husbands, whereas even Western intelligence sources say the number of ALL Indians in ISIS does not approach three figures, Tharoor said.

“This gross exaggeration and distortion of the Kerala reality is what I am objecting to,” he added.

Film’s producer Vipul Amrutlal Shah has said the film is a true story and every scene in the film is true, but it deals with three girls.

“However, we are not changing our stand. If we look at the issue, the number of 32,000 is what we have stated and we are staying by it. But the film is not, so they’re two different things,” he told PTI.

“Since the matter has become sub judice, I would not like to elaborate on that. If we are asked this question… ‘How did we get to this number and everything?’ We’ll answer those questions there (in court),” he said.

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan had on Sunday slammed the makers of the film, saying they were taking up the Sangh Parivar propaganda of projecting the state as a centre of religious extremism by raising the issue of ‘love jihad’ — a concept rejected by courts, probe agencies and the home ministry.

“The Kerala Story” is backed by Sunshine Pictures Private Limited, founded by Shah, who serves as the producer, creative director and co-writer of the film.

The film’s writer-director Sudipto Sen’s earlier movies are “Aasma”, “Lucknow Times” and “The Last Monk”.

PM Modi slams Congress, JD-S over ‘family politics’

    [ad_1]

Bengaluru: Criticising the Congress and the Janata Dal-Secular (JD-S) over “family politics”, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday termed JD-S a “private limited party” and a “B-team” of the Congress.

PM Modi addressed two massive rallies at Channapatna in Ramnagar district and Belur in Hassan district — both considered strongholds of the JD-S.

Former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda hails from Hassan district. His son and former Karnataka Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy is contesting the May 10 Assembly elections from Channapatna.

    MS Education Academy

Addressing the people, PM Modi dubbed the JD-S a “private limited party”. “The JD-S of Karnataka exists only for a family. It is a party of family politics,” he said.

Also slamming the Congress, PM Modi said “one family based in Delhi decides on the allotment of tickets, and everything else”.

“One who is loyal to the family will be made the CM. Congress party leaders are indulged in worshipping one family. But the BJP considers each party worker as its family. During Covid, it has given free vaccination for everyone. It is giving free rice for the poor. The party has built crores of houses for the people,” PM Modi said.

The Prime Minister further said that in the Congress-ruled states, “the bitter war for power is on”.

“In 2018, both Congress and JD-S were up against each other. But after the results, they joined hands. Every vote cast for the JD-S will go to Congress. The development is never possible through the JD-S and Congress

“This time, the voters of Karnataka have taken a decision. The Congress and JD-S would be taught a lesson. JD-S is Congress’ B-team,” he said, adding: “JD-S agrees with everything that Congress says. Hence, the double-engine government should come to power in Karnataka.”

PM Modi also said that the Congress has ruined the traditional puppet industry.

“I spoke about the famous Channapatna puppets and gave a call to purchase them in Mann Ki Baat. Today, they are exported and there is a huge revenue,” he said.

Owaisi slams ‘Maqbara lag raha hai’ remark over Telangana secretariat

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: The All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) president and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi responded to ‘Maqbara lag raha hai’ remarks on the new Telangana secretariat and said that the Prime Minister ‘could not build something like this’.

Owaisi congratulated state chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao on completing the new secretariat building named after Babasaheb Ambedkar, which was thrown open on Sunday.

Owaisi tweeted and said that the building must remain a symbol of Telangana’s inclusive growth story.

    MS Education Academy

A Twitter user replied to the post saying that the structure looks like a mausoleum and asked whether it was built for a funeral. Slamming the comment, the AIMIM president said that the new secretariat building design was inspired by various temples.

“Design was inspired by temples of Neelakanteshwara Swamy temple in Nizamabad, Rajaprasads of the Wanaparthy Samsthanam, and Hanuman temple in Sarangapur, Gujarat,” said the MP asking the commenter whether he will still say that the building looks like a mausoleum.

Owaisi also said that during the construction of the building, a waqf-registered mosque was illegally demolished and has now been reconstructed. He said that this was the ‘first instance of a reconstruction of a demolished Masjid’.

He said that the building was beautiful but the Prime Minister could not build something like this.

Telangana Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday reiterated its claim that the new secretariat resembles a mosque and has failed to resemble the ’emotions of 85 per cent Hindus’ in the state.

In a graphic tweeted out by @BJP4Telangana Twitter handle, the saffron party called the construction a ‘distortion of history’ as it allegedly doesn’t represent the culture of either the Kakatiyas or the Shatavahana rulers.

This is not the first time that the state BJP went after the style of construction of the new Secretariat.

State BJP chief Bandi Sanjay on February 10 issued a threat to demolish domes of the new Secretariat building if his party was voted to power in the next elections. He says the domes of the new Secretariat reflect the culture of Nizam.

Sanjay, who is known for making controversial statements, alleged that CM KCR turned the secretariat into a tomb like the Taj Mahal to please AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi.

The state government has also issued a clarification stating that the building has been modelled on the lines of various temples, including the Hanuman temple in Gujarat’s Sarangapur.

  • Court slams Delhi police inaction on father’s 2014 plaint regarding missing son

Court slams Delhi police inaction on father’s 2014 plaint regarding missing son

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: It has been more than nine years since Ram Kishor lodged a missing report of his son Deepak Kumar but all the questions remain unanswered even today.

It would not be unfair to say that the police’s approach in the matter has been indifferent. Time and again, the courts have pulled up the police for shoddy investigation, and the case is no different here.

The case stems from a missing report Kumar’s father had lodged on August 4, 2014. According to him, Kumar did not return home after he went out two days before the complaint was filed.

    MS Education Academy

The complainant (Kumar’s father) has been running from pillar to post since 2014, but the Delhi police conducted only an allegedly sham investigation in the initial year of lodging the First Information Report (FIR) and thereafter stopped investigating at all.

Multiple representations have been submitted by the complainant to police officials but to no avail.

In 2018, the complainant approached the Delhi High Court, which directed that the final report be filed within 12 weeks.

“That was also done and we lodged a contempt plea. It is only after we lodged the contempt, that the Delhi police filed an Untrace Report in 2019 stating that nothing could be found,” advocate Namit Saxena said.

After the court issued notice on the police’s untrace report, a protest petition was filed by the complainant.

Last year, a reply to the protest petition was filed by the police stating that all possible efforts to trace the victim have been made. However, no clue or information regarding the boy could be found.

Directing further investigation in the matter, Metropolitan Magistrate (MM) of Saket Courts Akshay Sharma has allowed the protest petition.

“…this court is of the opinion that matter be remanded back for further investigation in a proper manner and report be filed within reasonable time without further delay as the present case pertains to the year, 2014. Accordingly, the present protest petition is allowed,” Sharma said.

After five years of FIR registration, when the police filed its untrace report in 2019, it was stated by the investigation agency that due to continuous efforts of searching for the victim this delay of years has occurred.

“…perusal of the record does not reflect the continuous efforts which is stated to be the reason for delay,” the court noted.

It is also noteworthy that the complainant had received an extortion call demanding Rs 10 lakh, which was made to him by the alleged accused O.P. Thakur and that aspect has not been investigated by the police.

The police has merely stated in the untrace report and the reply to the protest petition that upon interrogation, nothing incriminatory was discovered against the suspected
    individuals.

“Though no formal interrogation report or any statement u/s 161 CrPC of any of the suspected alleged accused persons was recorded by the concerned IOs. Thus the basis on which the alleged accused persons have been exonerated by the investigation agency remains unexplained,” the court stated.

Slamming the Investigating Officers (IOs) for believing whatever the alleged suspects stated was the gospel truth, the court said that it was imperative for the concerned IOs to record the statement of the suspected individuals to incline this court to believe in the bona fide efforts undertaken for investigation of this case.

In conclusion, the court stated that “proper investigation has not been conducted in the instant case as the aspect of extortion as alleged by the complainant has not been investigated into, no investigation regarding the bike of Deepak found near a canal has been conducted, no investigation as to the fact that why Himanshu was using the ATM card of victim Deepak on frequent basis is conducted and no details of withdrawing money from victim’s bank account is placed on record”.

“No formal interrogation report or any statement under Section 161 of Criminal Procedure Code is recorded by the concerned IOs,” the court noted while allowing the protest petition by remanding back the case for further investigation.
