    SRINAGAR: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha inaugurated Chancellor’s trophy at University of Jammu on Wednesday. More than 550 sportspersons from various universities are participating in the three-day mega sports event ‘Sauhard’.

    The Lt Governor called upon the Higher Education institutions to promote sports as a core subject. Sports is a powerful medium to ensure physical-emotional health, enhances learning efficiency & helps in character building, he added.

    “Sports nurtures both mind & body and enables students to become well-rounded across disciplines. National Education Policy has given us an opportunity to promote Sports through multidisciplinary system and end fragmentation in education system,” said the Lt Governor.

    Citing various reports and studies on the impact of sports on the mind of an individual, the Lt Governor said the researchers considered Sports as a miracle for the brain. It is important that sports should be a part of our curriculum, he noted.

    Highlighting the initiatives taken for holistic development of youth, the Lt Governor said, under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the National Education Policy is creating a progressive ecosystem for the students to translate their dreams into reality.

    Prime Minister’s vision for FIT India, Khelo India, National Education Policy, start-up opportunities, is building a strong foundation for India’s future,said the Lt Governor.

    The Lt Governor also pointed out that Sports was deeply rooted in the ancient education system.

    Our Gurukuls had emphasized using Sports as a tool to enable socio-economic change, he said.

    The Lt Governor encouraged the youth to follow in the footsteps of prominent personalities who achieved excellence in both academics and sports.

    “Nothing is Impossible. You can achieve excellence in any field with your hard-work, dedication, right guidance and can build your future with your individuality and independent thinking,” said the Lt Governor.

    Rajeev Rai Bhatnagar, Advisor to Lt Governor reiterated the commitment of the administration to providing all necessary facilities to sportspersons and making JK a sporting powerhouse.

    Prof Umesh Rai, Vice-Chancellor, Jammu University said that the University of Jammu, being one of the partners for hosting the Pre-Summit of G-20 Group of Countries, has taken an initiative to organise an inter-University Sports Competition for the Chancellor’s Trophy-2023 to promote brotherhood among students and scholars of the various Universities and to build trust and social harmony.

    Chancellor’s Trophy is being held under the initiative “My Youth My Pride” to promote the concept of NEP 2020 which envisages sports as part of the curriculum and lays emphasis on sports-integrated learning and as a skill for a quality life, it was informed.

    Participants will compete in various sports disciplines like Basketball, Cricket, Kabaddi, Volleyball and Table Tennis.

    SRINAGAR: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Wednesday said the computer based examinations that were deferred yesterday will be conducted once Jammu and Kashmir Service Selection Board will be fully satisfied and that exams will be held soon.

    Talking to reporters, LG Sinha said transparency is a top priority for them and if there is any iota of doubt that will be addressed.

    He said recruitments will be done based on merit and transparency is the top priority for them and there will be no compromise on it.

    LG Sinha said that so for 47 employees have been dismissed from their services as they were having militancy links.

    “The statement I made a day ago about jobs being given to militants was based on facts and action has already been taken against many people in this regard,” he said.

    SRINAGAR: Taking a jibe at the mainstream parties that ruled JK over the past seven decades, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha Monday said that those who gave jobs to militants and their family members have no right to talk about “fair recruitment.”

    Addressing the function regarding laying of foundation stones of various projects related to Jammu Smart City at Jammu Convention Centre, LG Sinha  said that many people don’t want fair recruitment to take place in the UT.

    “Those who gave jobs to militants and their family members are raising fingers at the ongoing recruitment processes. These people have no right to do so,” the LG said, adding that “one lakh backdoor appointments were made by these people have made it difficult the administration.”

    The LG said that the SSB recruitment issue was raised and complaints were found true after which the administration handed over the case to the country’s premier investigating agency—CBI.

    “CBI is still probing the case and so far many arrests have been made. No matter how influential the people involved in the fake recruitments and irregularities, they won’t be spared at all,” he said.

    He said that people should remain assured that strict action will be taken against those who are found in irregularities or any other misconduct in the SSB exams.

    “Gone are the days when jobs were sold on roads and shops. Jobs will be given to those who have competence and the process of all recruitments will be fair and transparent,” the LG said.

    He said that if anyone feels or sees any sort of misconduct in any exam or recruitment process, the same should be brought to the notice of the administration. “I assure a very strict action will be taken against those found involved,” he said.

    He said a series of developmental projects are being taken up in Jammu under the Smart City Project. “The face of Jammu will change and the people of Jammu will feel a great and big change in the days and months ahead. The life of Jammuites will be made safe, secure and hassle free through the huge developmental activities that are under way at present,” he said. (KNO)

    Srinagar, Mar 11 (GNS): As JKSSRB aspirants continue to protest to seek blacklisting of APTECH Company in J&K, the Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha Saturday expressed his displeasure over any pre-emptive statement or comment by anyone citing the nature of the matter.

    Talking to media persons on the sidelines of an event pertaining to Tawi River Front, Sinha, as per GNS, said that any statement or comment at this point of time will tantamount to disrespecting and interfering into the Court decision.

    “I believe that if a case is under consideration (sub-judice) before a Court, and even when a decision has been made (into the matter) yesterday, discussing it or giving any comment regarding this tantamount to interfering into the Court decision and such a thing isn’t allowed by the Constitution of India.”

    Notably, a division bench of the Jammu & Kashmir High Court on Friday directed a single bench to hear and decide the petition challenging the engagement of the Mumbai-based APTECH firm by the Jammu & Kashmir administration for conducting various recruitment exams. The division bench set aside a single bench’s order to cancel the contract allotted to the firm and maintained that the interim directions shall remain in force. (GNS)

    SRINAGAR: While reiterating stand on recently imposed property tax in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, the Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha said “People’s interest is the top most priority of the government and has been duly taken care of”. He said the administration has issued a toll free number and people have been asked to put forth their suggestions if any as “doors are yet open for a dialogue”

    Talking to media persons in Jammu, the Lieutenant Governor Sinha said “I do not speak on political issues. I reiterate that people’s concern is the top most priority of present dispensation. Their concerns have been well taken care of. The rate of tax in J&K is less than Ambala, Dehradun and Shimla”.

    “There are 1,01,000 commercial properties in J&K out of which less than 40,000 are those who have to pay 700 rupees annually as property tax. Further there are 36,000 properties who have to pay 2000 rupees annually, which however is much less than states like Ambala, Dehradun and Shimla,” Sinha said.

    “People’s concern is our priority. We have issued a toll free number to get feedback and suggestions from people, if any. Doors are yet open for dialogue,” LG Sinha said.

    About uproar on APTECH Ltd. the LG Sinha said court has intervened into the matter who gave a verdict on yesterday. (KNS)

    SRINAGAR: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Saturday conducted an on-site inspection of key projects in Jammu and reviewed ongoing construction work of Jambu Zoo, Sri Venkateswara Swamy, and Tawi Riverfront Project.

    The Lt Governor ascertained the progress of the work being carried out at all three sites and emphasized the timely completion of the projects.

    Dheeraj Gupta, Principal Secretary to the Government, Department of Forest, and Ecology & Environment briefed the Lt Governor on the progress of Jambu Zoo. He informed me that the high-level team of Central Zoo Authority will be visiting for the final inspection this month and the entire process will be completed within the time frame.

    During his visit to the construction site of Sri Venkateswara Swamy Temple by Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams, the Lt Governor interacted with the temple officials and asked them to start construction of a Gurukul and Health Centre simultaneously.

    Later, the Lt Governor made an inspectional visit to the Tawi Riverfront project site, which envisages reducing erosion & flood and to provide sociocultural amenities for sustainable development of the city.

    The vibrant riverfront will ensure urban infrastructure sustainability. Once completed, the project will provide unique business opportunities and help in overall social upliftment. With social infrastructure and recreation facilities, Tawi Riverfront will enhance the quality of life of the citizens, said the Lt Governor.

    Rahul Yadav, Commissioner of JMC gave a detailed presentation on the ongoing works of the project.

    Interacting with media persons, the Lt Governor said the progress on all the projects visited today is satisfactory.

    The aspirations of the people of Jammu would be fulfilled soon. These projects will boost Tourism in Jammu and the footfall of tourists from outside will increase the economic activities and income of the people, the Lt Governor said.

    Speaking on property tax, the Lt Governor said, “People’s interest is our ‘top priority’.  The doors of administration are open for dialogue”.

    Shaleen Kabra, Principal Secretary to the Government, Jal Shakti Department; Dr. Mandeep Kumar Bhandari, Principal Secretary to the Lt Governor; Sh Ramesh Kumar, Divisional Commissioner Jammu, and other senior officials accompanied the Lt Governor during his visits.

    SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Thursday said that youth of valley have replaced stones with cricket bat, hockey and badminton and are scripting their future in the field of sports.

    “All this is the outcome of the pledge taken by Prime Minister Narendera Modi three years ago.The misguided youth who would pick up stones are holding cricket bat, hockey, badminton in their hands,” LG Sinha said, while addressing the closing ceremony of LG’s Rolling Trophy that saw the participation of 42000 participants, in Jammu.

    He said that Covid dampened the sports spirit for some time. “But a large number of youth are scripting the new history in the field of sports. They are the real champions and making JK proud,” the LG said.

    Manoj Sinha said that in October 2020, the government took steps to provide sports kits to youth in every Panchayat after seeing their enthusiasm. “We had assured the jubilant youth that they will get best possible sports infrastructure. Talent is being traced at Panchayat level and sportsmen are being provided best guidance to prove their skills,” the LG said.

    While congratulating the players and the winning team Manoj Sinha said, “The players with their skill and endurance on playing field have inspired youth generation, renewed the essential spirit of sports and made this tournament truly memorable.”

    He said that Youth and Sports department, mission youth and Sports Council is visiting village to village to trace the talent and provide them a proper platform. “Special focus is being given to build a quality sports infrastructure at village level,” the LG said. (KNO)
