Indian Embassy in Kathmandu claims Amritpal Singh hiding in Nepal: Report

    [ad_1]

Kathmandu: The Indian Embassy in Kathmandu has claimed that absconding pro-Khalistan radical Sikh preacher Amritpal Singh is currently hiding in Nepal and requested the Himalayan nation’s government agencies to arrest him if he tries to flee.

The Mission made the claim in a letter to the Department of Consular Services under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on March 25.

“The esteemed Ministry is requested to inform the Department of Immigration not to permit Amritpal Singh to travel through Nepal for any third country and arrest him if he attempts to escape from Nepal using an Indian passport or any other fake passport under intimation to this mission,” reads a copy of the letter obtained by The Kathmandu Post.

The letter and Singh’s personal details have been circulated to all the concerned agencies from hotels to airlines, multiple sources told The Kathmandu Post.

Singh is said to be possessing multiple passports with different identities.

The development comes amid a massive crackdown on Amritpal Singh and his associates in Punjab.

Amritpal Singh, against whom the National Security Act has been invoked and a non-bailable warrant issued, has been on the run despite the massive manhunt launched to nab him since March 18.

The self-styled preacher had returned from Dubai last year.

Akal Takht Jathedar gives 24-hr ultimatum for release of Sikhs held following crackdown on Amritpal Singh

    [ad_1]

Amritsar: Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Harpreet Singh on Monday gave a 24-hour ultimatum to the state government to release all Sikh youths who were held during the police crackdown against radical preacher Amritpal Singh and his aides.

He also condemned the state government for invoking the National Security Act against a few persons during the police crackdown.

The Jathedar of Akal Takht, the highest temporal seat of Sikhs, had convened a special gathering of Sikh organizations, including intellectuals, Sikh lawyers, journalists, religious and social leaders here to discuss the current situation in Punjab following the March 18 action against elements of ‘Waris Punjab De’ headed by Amritpal Singh.

Addressing the gathering, the Jathedar gave a 24-hour ultimatum to the Punjab government for releasing all Sikh youths in Punjab, saying otherwise the anger of Sikh community would remain simmering.

He also attacked certain TV channels, accusing them of promoting hate propaganda against Sikhs by describing the youths who have been held as separatists.

The Jathedar asked the state government to revoke the detention of some persons under the NSA and demanded that those who have been sent to Dibrugarh jail in Assam should be brought back to Punjab so that law can take its own course.

He said it would be wrong to say that there was a threat to national security due to the Sikhs who have been detained.

Without naming anyone, Singh said the NSA should also then be invoked against those who speak about ‘Hindu Rashtra.’

The Jathedar said it would extend all help to those “innocent Sikhs” who have been held in this matter.

The Jatehdar claimed around 400 Sikh youths had been “arrested” and 198 had been released.

But the Sikh community wanted release of all arrested Sikhs, he said.

He also asked the police to release the impounded vehicles of the Sikhs.

Punjab Police on Sunday had said it has released 197 persons out of total 353 taken into preventive custody on apprehension of breach of peace and disturbance of law and order.

The police had last week launched a crackdown against elements of ‘Waris Punjab De,’ headed Amritpal.

The elusive preacher himself, however, gave the police a slip and escaped their dragnet when his cavalcade was intercepted in Jalandhar district.

Hyderabad: Raja Singh to lead Shobha Yatra on Ram Navami

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: Controversial MLA T Raja Singh of Goshamahal who is currently suspended from BJP is set to lead the Shobha Yatra on March 30. The procession, which is scheduled to begin at 10:11 am, will start from the Akashpuri Hanuman Temple located at Mangala Hat Market Road in the city. However, the police is yet to grant permission for the yatra.

Last year, the procession began from the Seetarambagh temple in Mangalhat and proceeded to the Hanuman Vyayamshala School in Sultan Bazar, passing through various locations under the Goshamahal and Sultan Bazar traffic police stations. One tributary procession began from the Akashpuri Hanuman temple and joined the main procession at Gangabowli Junction. The police had imposed traffic restrictions at various points along the route.

Raja Singh’s offensive remarks at Ram Navami rally last year

Last year, Shahinayathgunj police station registered a case against Raja Singh following the provocative statements he made at a Ram Navami rally.

In his speech, Singh spoke against the alleged boycott of Hindu vendors in the Old city on the occasion of Ramzan. He said, “If Hindus were to target the traitors (Muslims) similarly, they would run out of business and would not even be in a position to beg as even alms are given to the poor by Hindus.”

He further remarked, “If Hindus awaken, all Muslims will be vanquished.”

In August, the police issued a notice to the MLA in the hate speech case.

    The MLA’s political career

Raja Singh, who was with the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) from 2009 to 2013 and later with the BJP from 2014 onwards, has won an MLA seat for two consecutive terms.

He also floated the Sriram Yuva Sena long ago to reinforce his identity as a Hindutva leader at the national level and to increase his fan following in the country.

His uncompromising Hindutva stand helped him emerge as the favourite in his constituency and the sole MLA for the BJP in the 2018 assembly election when the party lost deposits in over 100 assembly segments among 119 constituencies in Telangana.

However, Raja Singh has been embroiled in several controversies in the past. Last year, he was arrested after he made derogatory comments against Prophet Mohammed.

The MLA claimed that he did it in retaliation against the state government’s decision to allow comedian Munawar Faruqui to hold a show in Hyderabad at Madhapur on August 20.

  • Rahul Gandhi’s disqualification from Lok Sabha as per rules, says Jitendra Singh

Rahul Gandhi’s disqualification from Lok Sabha as per rules, says Jitendra Singh

    [ad_1]

Kathua: Union minister Jitendra Singh on Sunday said the decision taken by the Lok Sabha Secretariat to disqualify Congress leader Rahul Gandhi was as per rules, and questioning the decision was like targeting the Constitution.

Gandhi, 52, was disqualified from the Lok Sabha on Friday, a day after a court in Gujarat’s Surat convicted him in a 2019 defamation case. The disqualification will prevent Gandhi, a four-time MP, from contesting elections for eight years unless a higher court stays the conviction.

“Today, it is age of reasons. Whatever decision was taken by the Lok Sabha secretariat was taken as per rules,” Singh told reporters on the sidelines of a function in Kathua district.

He said to question the decision was to put a question mark on the Constitution, Indian democracy and the country’s parliamentary system.

Replying to another question on assembly elections in J and K, Singh said, “The BJP is always ready for elections, but the decision (to hold the elections) is to be taken by the Election Commission.”

The Union minister held Public Darbar’ with the district administration and PRI representatives at Hiranagar, in Kathua.

He listened to the people’s issues and directed the administration for their on the spot redressal.

Singh addressed various issues related to the Delhi-Katra Express Highway like land compensation, crossings and flyovers and public convenience spots raised during the event.

He directed the National Highways Authority of India to speed up the work on the corridor.

  • BJP attacking Rahul Gandhi to hide their skeletons: Digvijaya Singh

BJP attacking Rahul Gandhi to hide their skeletons: Digvijaya Singh

    [ad_1]

Gwalior: Senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh on Sunday claimed Rahul Gandhi rightly called the “absconders” associated with Prime Minister Narendra Modi “thieves” but the BJP is projecting his remarks as anti-OBC.

He claimed not a single person from Other Backward Classes (OBC) turned “absconder” after taking the country’s money.

“Absconders are those people who are associated with the BJP and (Prime Minister Narendra) Modi. Rahul Gandhi has rightly called them thieves. What crime has he committed by raising the issue of Rs 20,000 crore in Adani’s (industrialist Gautam Adani) companies,” Singh asked while talking to reporters.

After Rahul Gandhi was disqualified as an MP after a court in Surat convicted him in a criminal defamation case over his “Modi surname” remark, BJP staged protests across the country claiming the Congress leader had insulted the OBCs.

“Tell me the name of any OBC who had run away to foreign countries by taking away the nation’s money. To hide the theft, the BJP has put forward OBCs. Not a single OBC person has turned absconder after taking the country’s money but the BJP has termed Gandhi’s statement as against OBC. They should apologise to the nation,” Singh said.

Queried on Rahul Gandhi’s disqualification as the Wayanad MP, Singh said Congress leaders are not afraid of such tactics and slammed the Union government.

The Rajya Sabha MP alleged the BJP, RSS, and PM Modi want a “Russia, China-like democracy” in India by putting Opposition leaders in jails by filing false cases against them and disqualifying them from membership (of parliament).

“This is the model of democracy of BJP, RSS and Modi,” he said.

Singh questioned the chronology of events ahead of the Surat court’s verdict on Thursday and Rahul’s disqualification as Lok Sabha MP.

“In 2019, Rahul Gandhi delivered a speech at Kolar in Karnataka, but a defamation case was filed in Surat. The moment Rahul Gandhi posed questions to Modi in parliament on February 7, the BJP team responsible for spreading falsehood became active and the case in Surat court was expedited.

“A stay on proceedings by the high court got vacated. Though I have full regard for the judiciary; a person- a judge- is posted and the hearing gets completed on February 27 and the verdict was out on March 23, and within 24 hours Rahul’s Lok Sabha membership ended,” he claimed.

Singh said the Opposition supported Congress as they understood the chronology of events and the Grand Old Party is grateful to them.

“As I heard, the judge was given a double promotion as per my information,” he claimed.

Singh questioned the source of “Rs 20,000 crore” to (businessman Gautam) Adani.

“The company’s director was from China. From which company?….It should be probed and a joint parliamentary committee should be constituted,” the Rajya Sabha MP said.

He said Congress workers will take to the streets against the disqualification of Rahul Gandhi.

“Rahul Gandhi belongs to that family which has sacrificed for the country’s freedom. The entire Nehru-Gandhi family was in jail. What was the role of RSS at that time?” Singh questioned.

Responding to a query about Rahul Gandhi’s 52 per cent attendance in Parliament, Singh claimed “Mikes are stopped in Parliament. Parts of Rahul’s speech were expunged. He is present among the people in the entire country. Tell me whether any BJP leader had walked in the country for 4,000 ks?”

He shot back at a reporter who questioned how could ageing Congress leaders contest polls, especially when the BJP has rolled out a youth policy recently.
“Did you know the age of the Prime Minister or Madhya Pradesh chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan?” Singh asked.

The Congress veteran, who walked in the Bharat Jodo Yatra, also challenged the concerned reporter to match steps with him if he can and advised him not to ask such questions.

Later, Singh and other leaders of Congress staged a protest against Rahul Gandhi’s disqualification under Mahatma Gandhi’s statue in the Phoolbagh area.

Areas neglected earlier role model for country now: Jitendra Singh

    [ad_1]

Hiranagar: Union Minister of State for Personnel Jitendra Singh on Sunday said areas like border districts which were neglected earlier have now become role model for the country.

He said bringing governance at the doorsteps of the people to the last man in the last queue is possible only under Narendra Modi whose endeavour, after being sworn in as the Prime Minister of India in 2014, has been to address the people’s issues on the spot through ‘public darbars’ with district administration.

The governance cannot be restricted to the district headquarters only and a departure from this practice was necessary so that people’s issues could be addressed on the spot with district administration, Singh said at a ‘public darbar’ here.

He asserted that development has reached the last man in the queue under PM Narendra Modi, and said the areas which were neglected earlier like the border districts under the previous governments have now become the role models for the country, the best example being the border district of Kathua, “which is considered now the epitome of development and governance in the country”, according to an official statement.

Singh, who is the Lok Sabha member from Jammu and Kashmir’s Udhampur constituency, said it is for the first time after 20 years that hundreds of acres of border land have been brought under cultivation “bringing back the lost smiles on the faces of border dwellers in Kathua” which has been possible only under the present government which believes in the mantra of ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas’ under PM Modi.

He said Kathua is now considered the role model of development in the country due to various development initiatives undertaken there.

During the ‘public darbar’, Singh addressed certain issues on the spot related to the Delhi-Katra express highway such as land compensation, crossings at certain points for public convenience.

The minister directed the top officials of National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) present during the public darbar to speed up the work on the express highway and also look into the genuine issues raised by the public in a time bound manner, the statement issued by the Personnel Ministry said.

Punjab govt won’t hesitate in taking tough decisions on Amritpal Singh: Delhi CM

    [ad_1]

Jalandhar: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday said the Bhagwant Mann government in Punjab will not hesitate in taking tough decisions to maintain law and order as he asserted that those who were trying to spoil the atmosphere in the state are on the run.

Kejriwal’s remarks come in the wake of Punjab police action against radical preacher Amritpal Singh and elements of an outfit, headed by him, named ‘Waris Punjab De.’

AAP supremo Kejriwal along with Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann was in Jalandhar, where the crackdown on the Khalistan sympathizer began on Saturday, to lay the foundation stone of Sri Guru Ravidas Bani Adhyan Centre at Dera Sachkhand Ballan here.

Addressing the gathering, Kejriwal said whoever tries to disturb peace in Punjab will not be spared. “In the past few days, you saw how some people tried to disturb peace in Punjab,” he said.

“We do not have to allow the atmosphere to be spoiled at any cost,” he said, adding, “We have to maintain peace, law, and order in Punjab.”

Kejriwal said the Mann government took tough decisions to maintain peace in the state.

“Sometimes, tough decisions have to be taken. But if our AAP government in Punjab under the leadership of Bhagwant Mann will have to take tough decisions then we will not hesitate from taking them,” he added.

“Mann saab took tough decisions, but without a bullet being fired and blood being shed peace is maintained in entire Punjab today,” he said.

Amritpal Singh has been on the run after the police crackdown began. Several images and videos have shown him taking multiple vehicles to dodge police. The Punjab government has slapped the strictest National Security Act against him and some of his associates.

While the fugitive’s whereabouts are still unknown, Punjab police say efforts are on to nab him.

  • Chhattisgarh: 4 held over foot march in support of Amritpal Singh in Raipur

Chhattisgarh: 4 held over foot march in support of Amritpal Singh in Raipur

    [ad_1]

Raipur: Four persons were arrested on Thursday, a day after a rally was taken out in Chhattisgarh’s capital Raipur by a group of people allegedly in support of wanted pro-Khalistan preacher Amritpal Singh, an official said.

Based on the examination of CCTV footage and video clips of the statements given by people involved in the rally, a first information report (FIR) was registered at Civil Lines police station here, Raipur Senior Superintendent of Police Prasant Agrawal told PTI.

Four Raipur residents, identified as Diler Singh Randhawa (46), Manindarjeet Singh alias Mintu Sandhu (40), Harinder Singh Khalsa (44) and Harpreet Singh Randhawa alias Chintu (42), were arrested for allegedly taking out a foot march in support of Amritpal Singh, he said.

The four have been booked under Indian Penal Code sections 147 (punishment for rioting), 153A (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language, etc., and doing acts prejudicial to maintenance of harmony), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) and 505(1)(b) (with intent to cause, or which is likely to cause, fear or alarm to the public, or to any section of the public whereby any person may be induced to commit an offence against the State or against the public tranquillity), SSP Agrawal said, adding that further investigation is underway.

Earlier in the day, Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel said in the state Assembly that he had ordered police to probe the issue and take action against those found indulging in anti-national activities.

On Wednesday, a rally was taken out allegedly in support of Amritpal Singh, after which police served notice to the organisers. They were asked to furnish their replies at Civil Lines police station.

Diler Singh Randhawa, a member of Baba Budha Saheb Committee, who was part of the rally, had told media persons that Amritpal Singh was innocent. He accused the Punjab government of falsely implicating him.

Diler Singh claimed Amritpal Singh was fighting against addiction and was uniting youth through religion.

However, a video of Diler Singh, which was shared by police on Thursday, showed him claiming he had been misreported and that some persons were spreading propaganda that the rally was taken out in support of Khalistan.

He said the rally was held against the “illegal” action being taken against Sikhs in Punjab.

“We live in Chhattisgarh and love the people of Chhattisgarh. We respect every religion. We don’t want Khalistan and have nothing to do with it. We only talk about Sikhism and we raise our voice for Sikhs. It is our responsibility and right to raise the issue of our community,” he added.

Police action began in Punjab last week against radical preacher Amritpal Singh, who heads Waaris Punjab De’ organisation, leading to several arrests, though he continues to remain elusive.
