9 percent of India’s electricity to come from nuclear sources by 2047: Jitendra Singh

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: India will get 9 percent of its electricity from nuclear sources by 2047, the centenary year of the country’s independence, Union Minister Jitendra Singh said on Sunday.

The Science and Technology minister made these remarks after reviewing the functioning of the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre in Mumbai.

Singh said the rising share of nuclear power in India’s energy basket would help it get closer to the commitment of achieving the net zero target by 2070.

    MS Education Academy

He said the Department of Atomic Energy has been given the target of achieving 20 gigawatts (GW) capacity of nuclear power generation by 2030, which will make India the third-largest producer of atomic energy in the world after the US and France.

Singh said the credit for this rapid stride goes to Prime Minister Narendra Modi who took the decision of approving 10 reactors in a fleet mode in a single order and also allowed nuclear installations to be developed under joint ventures with PSUs.

India has the sixth-highest number of functional nuclear reactors in the world and the second-highest number of reactors, including those under construction.

During 2021-22, nuclear power reactors generated 47,112 million units of electricity, about 3.15 per cent of the total electricity generated in the country, Singh had told Lok Sabha last week.

The present installed nuclear power capacity is set to increase from 6,780 megawatts (MW) to 22,480 MW by 2031 on progressive completion of projects under construction and accorded sanction, Singh had said.

Giriraj Singh wants name change for UP’s Muzaffarnagar

    [ad_1]

Muzaffarnagar: Union Minister Giriraj Singh has stirred a new controversy by demanding that Muzaffarnagar be renamed.

He said that Muzaffarnagar has been the capital of farmers and the name was hurting its pride. There is a need for a new name for the district to erase the signs of Mughals after over seven decades of the country’s Independence.

Reacting to the minister’s demand, Bhartiya Kisan Union (BKU) district president Yogesh Sharma said the statement was nothing but a political stunt.

    MS Education Academy

“The Lok Sabha polls are around, and they raise such issues to polarise people,” he said.

Muzaffarnagar has been the centre stage of farmers’ politics.

The district was rocked by riots in 2013 that claimed many lives and rendered over 50,000 people homeless.

The riots affected social and political equations in the area, which are said to have helped the BJP in getting a landslide victory in 2014 polls.

Hanuman Jayanti: Raja Singh taken into preventive custody in Hyderabad

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: Now suspended Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Goshamahal MLA T Raja Singh was taken into preventive custody by the Mangalhat police and Commissioner’s Task Force when he tried to take out a rally and join the Veer Hanuman Jayanthi Shobha Yatra on Thursday.

A police team led by N Ravi Kumar, SHO Mangalhat police station and Task Force people came to the residence of the MLA and took him into custody. He was taken into a police vehicle and shifted to a police station, which is yet to be known.

Minutes before his arrest, Raja Singh released a video and said the police are planning to arrest him and prevent him from joining the Hanuman Jayanthi rally.

    MS Education Academy

“On Hanuman Jayanthi I visit the all temples. The rally starts from the Ram Mandir temple in Gowliguda in my constituency. If I am arrested chief minister K Chandrashekhar Rao and Home Minister Mohammad Mahmood Ali are responsible for the consequences,” threatened Raja Singh.

When the police came to arrest him, Raja Singh argued with them and reiterated that he would go and join the rally. However, SHO Ravi Kumar pacified him and took him into custody. The MLA was shifted to a police station.

The police are on alert following the advisory issued by the Union Home Ministry in view of riots in different states in the country during Sri Rama Navami. The Telangana police are monitoring the situation after the arrest of BJP state president Bandi Sanjay in Warangal for conspiracy to defame the government and creating commotion by ‘leaking the SSC exam question paper’ on Tuesday.

Raja Singh was earlier detained on Wednesday by the police when he was on his way to meet Bandi Sanjay who is currently in custody.

Militancy not over but declining fast: J&K DGP Dilbagh Singh

    [ad_1]

Bandipora, Apr 04: Jammu and Kashmir’s Director General of Police (DGP) Dilbagh Singh Thursday said that militancy is not over in the UT but “it is surely declining rapidly” and the security forces are working hard to eliminate the remaining militants in the months ahead. He also said that there has been no law and order issue from Srinagar and other parts of Kashmir but the final call about allowing Eid-ul-Fitr prayers will be taken by the Divisional Administration in the days ahead.

Talking to reporters on the side-lines of a function at Sonwari, Bandipora, DGP Singh, as per news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) said that militancy has not ended in Kashmir but it was fast declining. “Police and security forces are working hard to eliminate the remaining militants wherever they are in the UT,” he said.

He said the youth who would otherwise fall prey to the false propaganda and get lured into militancy are now following their careers in competitive exams and sports. “The youth and the people have understood the false narrative that was being run from across to fuel militancy. The people of Kashmir have rejected that narrative and they are now contributing to the peace,” the DGP said.

On whether weapons and narcotics dropped by drones was still a challenge, the J&K police chief said that police have achieved a huge success in foiling the designs of enemies to air-drop cash, IEDs, weapons and narcotics through drones. “Though the activity is less than what we have been noticing in the past but air-dropping of weapons through drones still takes place in Kuwpara, Baramulla, Rajouri and Poonch area. We have seized huge quantities of weapons, money and narcotics and such bids are continuously being foiled,” the DGP said, adding that those involved in supplying drugs to other parts of UT and even Punjab are being tracked and strict action is being taken against them.

He said that police have launched a massive campaign to root-out drug menace in J&K. “We have opened drug de-addiction centers across UT and there are demands from many parts of Kashmir. It needs technical staff and other infrastructure but we are working on expanding the drug de-addiction centers wherever it is possible,” the DGP said.

About whether Eid-ul-Fitr prayers will be allowed at Eidgah Srinagar as stated by Waqf Board chairperson Darakshan Andrabi, the DGP said that final decision will be taken by the Divisional Administration Kashmir. “Srinagar has been peaceful and so are the other parts of Kashmir. There has been no law and order issue in Srinagar or elsewhere in Kashmir. Final decision about allowing Eid prayers at Eidgah will be taken by the divisional administration in the days ahead,” he said—(KNO)

  • Raja Singh hate speech: Twitter withholds tweets on Centre’s directions

Raja Singh hate speech: Twitter withholds tweets on Centre’s directions

    [ad_1]

Social media giant Twitter has withheld suspended Bharatiya Janata Party and Goshmahal MLA T Raja Singh’s recent hate speech videos made across Maharashtra on the directions of the Narendra Modi-led Central government.

HindutvaWatch, a Twitter handle that posts videos and news of hate speech and crimes that take place across the country, received an email from Twitter that certain of its tweets had violated the Information Technology Act, 2000, and hence are withheld.

“Indian government is trying to bury the evidence of hate speeches delivered by suspended BJP legislator T Raja Singh from our Twitter handle by withholding five videos in India,” HindutvaWatch tweeted.

“Notably, the request comes 3 days after a contempt petition on hate speeches was filed in the Supreme Court. The petition extensively mentions Raja Singh’s hate speeches documented by Hindutva Watch as evidence,” HindutvaWatch added.

A journalist and researcher at the fact-checking media company AltNews, Kalim Ahmed was given the same notification from Twitter.

Expressing his displeasure, the journalist linked the stories in his Twitter head before pasting the social media giant’s email contents.

“My Twitter thread documenting BJP legislator Raja Singh delivering objectionable speeches across Maharashtra has been withheld in India. Mother of democracy is very angry with me You can still read those reports on AltNews’s website, I’ll link them below,” he tweeted.

    Raja Singh’s Maharashtra hate speech

Last year in August, Raja Singh posted a video where he used derogatory language against Prophet Muhammad which ultimately led to his arrest. Owing to massive pressure, BJP suspended Raja.

Raja Singh was booked under the Preventive Detention (PD) Act by the Telangana police. In November, the Telangana High Court granted him conditional bail forbidding him to participate in rallies or speak to the media as well as refrain from making any posting derogatory speeches.

On January 29, a massive Hindutva rally took off in the heart of the financial capital Mumbai. The rally – Jan Aakrosh Morcha – weaved several right-wing groups, including Bajrang Dal, Vishwa Sanatan Sangha, Vanvasi Kalyan, Rajput Youth Front, Karni Sena and All India Maheshwar Samaj to form the Sakal Hindu Samaj.

They demanded strict laws against ‘love jihad’, religious conversion, and alleged grabbing of land by Muslim organisations.

Raja Singh took part in these rallies where he made an open call for violence against the Muslim community.

On February 20, Raja Singh delivered another hate speech in Maharashtra’s Latur district where he called for Akhand Bharat.

Hamare Maharashtra ke dharthi per koi bhi love jihadi zinda na bache. Aaj hamari bahu-beti ko behla-phuslakar Love Jihad ke naam per fasaya jaa raha hai. Bacha paida karne ki machine banaya jaa raha hai. Rape and unke tukde kiya jaa raha hai. (No love jihadi will survive on the soil of Maharashtra. They trap Hindu women and make them slaves by producing more and more children. They rape them and cut them into pieces),” Raja Singh said in the speech.

He made another speech in the Solapur district of Maharashtra demeaning communal harmony and brotherhood by stating Hindus and Muslims can never be brothers.

“Can (Chhatrapati) Shivaji and Afzal Khan (a general in the Adil Shahi dynasty) become one? Can Maharana Prathap (a Hindu Rajput king of Mewar) and Akbar (a Mughal emperor) be one? Can those who worship our mother cow and those who murder her be one?” he asked a cheering crowd.

    Many notices served, none followed

In December last year, the Hyderabad police had served a showcase notice on Raja Singh for making derogatory comments on Facebook.

On January 26, another notice was issued to the Goshamahal MLA and then a third notice was sent following his controversial speeches in Maharashtra.

Reacting strongly, Raja Singh alleged that the ninth Nizam is ruling the state. He said that he was not afraid of being sent to jail again.

  • AAP will appeal in Delhi HC for Sisodia’s bail: Sanjay Singh

AAP will appeal in Delhi HC for Sisodia’s bail: Sanjay Singh

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: Senior AAP leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh said Friday the party will move the Delhi High Court after a city court denied bail to former minister Manish Sisodia in an excise policy scam case.

Eight people involved in this matter were granted bail, two of whom even received anticipatory bail, but Sisodia’s bail application was wholly rejected, he said.

The MP called the decision “shocking” and said the party would appeal against it in the high court.

“We respect the judiciary and the courts, but the Constitution gives us the right to agree and disagree with the judgments of the judiciary, as well as the right to appeal against them. Anyone who sees this order will see the truth,” he said.

He urged the judiciary to reconsider its decision and emphasised the importance of upholding the principles of justice and fairness.

A Delhi court dismissed the bail plea of former Deputy Chief Minister Sisodia in the excise policy scam case of CBI, saying he was “prima facie the architect” and played the “most important and vital role” in the criminal conspiracy relating to alleged payment of advance kickbacks of around Rs 90-100 crore, meant for him and his colleagues in the Delhi government.

Observing that the release of Sisodia, who is in custody since February 26 in the case, at the moment will “adversely affect the ongoing investigation”, special CBI judge M K Nagpal said.

The CBI arrested Sisodia in connection with alleged corruption in the formulation and implementation of the now-scrapped Delhi Excise Policy 2021-22 after several rounds of questioning.
