Poonch attack carried out with active local support; steel coated bullets, IED used to blow army vehicle: DGP Dilbagh Singh

    [ad_1]

Rajouri, Apr 28: Jammu and Kashmir’s Director General of Police (DGP) Dilbagh Singh Friday said that the April 21 attack in Bhata Durian area of Poonch in which five soldiers were killed was carried out with active local support and terrorists had used steel-coated armour-piercing bullets and IEDs to target army vehicle to inflict maximum damage. He said intense search to track the natural hide-outs used by terrorists is being launched and initial investigations suggest that nine to 12 foreign militants may be active in Rajouri-Poonch area, who may have infiltrated recently.

Talking to reporters after taking stock of the ongoing search operations in Darhal area of Rajouri district, DGP Singh, as per news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), said that the Poonch attack was carried out with active support of locals. “Such attacks can’t be carried out without local support. The terrorists were provided shelter at one place and then provided transport to carry out the attack at another place. They had done proper recee of the area and despite rain they succeeded to target the army vehicle that was plying with almost zero speed due to blind turn,” the DGP said, adding that “the attackers were knowing the spot and speed of the vehicle.”

The DGP said that the terrorist used steel-coated armour-piercing bullets and IEDs to blow the army vehicle in a bid to inflict maximum damage. “ Same bullets were used in the Dhangri, Rajouri attack. The Pooonch attack was carried out near a forest area. Initial investigations suggest that the terrorists may have used natural hideouts. We are identifying the natural hide-outs that may have been used by the attackers before the attack and intense search operation is on to nab the attackers,” he said. Replying to a query, he said that the group of terrorists involved in the recent attack may be divided into two and their number seems between nine to twelve.

About the local support, he said that the local Nisar Ahmed, a resident of Gursai village, was already in the suspect list of police. “He has been an active OGW of terrorists since 1990. He was questioned several times in the past. This time, after corroborating the evidence, he was found involved in providing logistic and other support to terrorists who carried out the Poonch attack,” the DGP said, adding that Nisar’s family is also involved in providing support to terrorists.

On whether terrorists had got weapons through drones, the DGP said that weapons, grenades and cash was air-dropped by drone and the same was collected by Nisar and his family members. “We are identifying the spot where the drone had dropped the weapons and cash,” he said. He said so far, 200 people were questioned and 12 suspects have been detained. He said with the arrest of Nisar, the investigation has got a direction and vital leads have been received so far—(KNO)

  • Bihar: Gangster-turned-politician Anand Mohan Singh released

Bihar: Gangster-turned-politician Anand Mohan Singh released

    [ad_1]

Saharsa: Gangster-turned-politician Anand Mohan Singh was released from Bihar’s Saharsa jail early Thursday morning, a jail official confirmed.

Singh’s release was necessitated after the Bihar government recently amended the prison rules allowing the release of 27 convicts including him.

He was serving a life sentence in the 1994 murder of then Gopalganj District Magistrate G Krishnaiah. After the Bihar Government amended the rules of the Jail manual, an official notification stated that 27 prisoners who have served 14 years or 20 years in jail have been ordered to be released.

    MS Education Academy

Posters welcoming the former MP Anand Mohan were put up at Veer Kunwar Singh Chowk in the district.

The gangster-turned-politician was earlier on parole of 15 days to attend the engagement ceremony of his MLA son Chetan Anand. He had returned to Saharsa jail on April 26 following the end of his parole period.

Earlier on Wednesday, the state prisons department had released nearly 14 convicts from various jails of the state.
Singh was among eight others who could not be released yesterday.

There has been a backlash regarding the former MP’s release from jail by the opposition in the state.

Responding to the uproar over his imminent release, Anand Mohan Singh on Tuesday took a dig at the BJP and said convicts in Bilkis Bano case were also released under Bihar CM Nitish Kumar’s pressure.

“In Gujarat also, some decision has been taken under the pressure of RJD and Nitish Kumar, go and see that. Some people have been released and garlanded. Yes, I am pointing out to that case (Bilkis Bano case) only,” Singh told mediapersons.

He said that he has “full sympathy” with the slain IAS officer’s family.

“I have full sympathy for G Krishnaiah’s family. This episode ruined two families, that of Lovely Anand (his wife), and G Kishnaiah,” the former MP added.

Anand Mohan murdered Gopalganj District Magistrate G Krishnaiah on December 5, 1994, in Muzaffarpur. Krishnaiah was killed by a mob allegedly provoked by Anand Mohan Singh. He was dragged out of his official car and lynched.

G Krishnaiah, a 1985-batch IAS officer who hailed from Mahbubnagar in present-day Telangana.

Anand Mohan was sentenced to death by a trial court in 2007. A year later, the sentence was commuted to life imprisonment by the Patna High Court. Mohan then challenged the verdict in Supreme Court but no relief has been granted yet and he has remained in Saharsa jail since 2007.

His wife Lovely Anand has also been a Lok Sabha MP, while their son Chetan Anand is an RJD MLA from Bihar’s Sheohar.

The Rajya Sabha MP made the remark while reacting to a recent statement by Madhya Pradesh Water Resources Minister and BJP leader Tulsiram Silawat.

Silawat recently described Singh as the “coronavirus of the Congress” and said he prayed to Lord Mahakal (one of 12 jyotirlingas in Ujjain) that the next birth of the 76-year-old Congress leader should be in China, where the infectious viral disease was first detected in 2019.

He said, “You (media) should ask Silawat how did his business become so big and from where he got so much money?”

Asked about a comment made by Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Narottam Mishra against his party colleague and former CM Kamal Nath, Singh said, “Does any person has the right to choose his or her parents?”

Mishra had said state Congress president Nath and his son Nakul Nath, the Lok Sabha MP from Chhindwara, were born with a golden spoon.

    [ad_1]

Moga: Khalistan sympathiser and radical preacher Amritpal Singh who was absconding for over a month is likely to be shifted to Dibrugarh, Assam, informed Punjab Police sources.

‘Waris Punjab De’ chief Amritpal Singh was arrested by Punjab Police from the Moga district of Punjab.

Amritpal has been on the run since March 18, the day Punjab Police launched a massive manhunt for him.

    MS Education Academy

Papalpreet Singh, a close aide of Amritpal Singh, was taken to Assam’s Dibrugarh Central Jail on April 11 after he was arrested.

Associates of Amritpal Singh were shifted out of Punjab after Central Intelligence agencies raised concerns over possible jailbreak and repeat of the Ajnala incident on March 11.

Earlier on Saturday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah when asked about Amritpal Singh’s arrest and that he has been absconding for a long, said, “It may happen sometime. Earlier he used to roam freely, but now he cannot carry on with his activities.”

Two more aides of ‘Waris Punjab De’ chief Amritpal Singh were arrested at Mohali in Punjab, in a joint operation by Punjab and Delhi Police on April 18.

On April 15, Punjab Police arrested his close aide Joga Singh from Sirhind in the Fatehgarh Sahib district.

The radical leader had been declared a “fugitive” while he was on a run earlier in March.

“Waris Punjab De’ chief Amritpal Singh has been declared a fugitive. His two cars were seized and gunmen nabbed. We also checked if the firearms of his security escorts had been procured legally. A case has been registered. Punjab Police have launched a manhunt for Amritpal Singh and we are hopeful that he will be arrested soon. A total of 78 people have been arrested so far and further searches and raids are underway,” Chahal said in an exclusive interview with ANI.

The crackdown came almost over three weeks after Amritpal’s supporters stormed Ajnala police station in Amritsar on February 23, demanding the release of one of his aides, Lovepreet Toofan.
