    • “IAS Officer Abhishek Singh Suspended by Uttar Pradesh Government for Extended Absence”

The government of Uttar Pradesh, led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, has suspended IAS officer Abhishek Singh for being absent from work without explanation. Singh, a 2011 batch officer in the UP cadre, has been missing for 82 days and has not informed the department of personnel and appointment in the UP government.

Singh was previously removed from election duty as an observer in the Gujarat elections in November for posting pictures with a vehicle bearing his designation. He is well known for his presence on social media, having acted in the Netflix series “Delhi Crime Season 2” and in music videos by popular artists B Praak and Jubin Nautiyal. He has over 30 lakh followers on Instagram.

The suspension was issued by Additional Chief Secretary Devesh Chaturvedi on Wednesday, with the consent of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. A separate charge sheet is expected to be issued against Singh soon.

It is worth noting that the UP government has cancelled the leave of all IAS and IPS officers until February 15 in preparation for the Global Investors Summit.

Singh comes from a family of high-ranking officers, with his wife Durga Shakti Nagpal being an IAS officer in the UP cadre and his father Kripa Shankar Singh being a former IPS officer in UP. Before joining the IAS, Singh served in the police force in Mumbai. He has faced previous suspensions, including one in 2014 for alleged misbehavior with a Dalit teacher, and another in October of last year for extended absence. He was on deputation in Delhi from 2015 to 2018, and was sent back to the UP cadre in March 2020 but failed to report.

Khadi fast emerging as new avenue of lucrative ‘start-up’: Jitendra Singh

    [ad_1]

Jammu: Union minister Jitendra Singh on Saturday said Khadi is fast emerging as a new and lucrative start-up avenue, giving full credit to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for having popularized the fabric across the world.

“Today, Khadi garments and outfits have assumed the status of designer items and elite wear. Modi has popularised Khadi across the world with the mantra of Khadi for nation, Khadi for fashion and Khadi for transformation,” the minister of state in the prime minister’s office said.

Singh was addressing a North Zone level programme organised by Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Udhampur district, wherein subsidy margin amount of more than Rs 100 Crore was distributed online to beneficiaries and entrepreneurs spread across the north Indian states of Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana and Rajasthan and Union Territories of J&K and Ladakh.

The programme was organised under the supervision of KVIC Chairman Manoj Kumar who underscored the recent decision to increase the wages from Rs 7.50 per hank to Rs 10 per hank, which will lead to rise in the monthly income of artisans by around 33 per cent and 10 per cent increase in the wages of weavers.

The minister expressed disappointment that while the Start-up movement had picked up in other parts of the country, it was yet to pick up in this region.

“The worth of Khadi for entrepreneurship and industry is being realised more and more,” he said and recalled that Prime Minister through his radio broadcast “Mann Ki Baat” had appealed on several occasions to buy khadi, as a result of which now there has been a record sale of Khadi products and also manifold increase in export of Khadi.

In order to build a prosperous, strong and self-reliant nation, the minister motivated the beneficiaries for running their units successfully and said that this would motivate other youth also to give up the desperate struggle to secure a government job and instead go for more lucrative livelihood options.

The KVIC chairman said the Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme is playing a crucial role in realising the dream of a self-reliant India.

“Khadi and Village Industries Commission through its various programmes are generating employment opportunities for artisans at their door steps in remote areas at very low cost,” he said.

  • Giriraj Singh backs celebrating ‘Cow Hug Day’ on Feb 14

Giriraj Singh backs celebrating ‘Cow Hug Day’ on Feb 14

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: Backing the Animal Welfare Board of India’s advisory to celebrate ‘Cow Hug Day’ on February 14, Union minister Giriraj Singh on Thursday said that everyone should love cows.

“A very good decision has been taken, cows should be hugged. I welcome the decision of Purushottam Rupala ji’s ministry. We all should love and hug the cow,” the minister said while addressing a press conference here.

Union Minister Sadhvi Niranjana Jyoti has also welcomed the decision saying “33 crore gods and goddesses live within a cow”.

“Cow is considered as our mother and we should embrace them. 33 crore gods and goddesses live within the cow; I thank the honorable minister. The cow gives us milk from birth till death, we drink its milk. The mother who gives birth keeps us in the womb for 9 months, then when we worship her as a mother, then why not the mother cow?,” Sadhvi Niranjana said.

Aiming to celebrate the ‘Vedic tradition’ and the immense benefits a cow possesses, the Animal Welfare Board of India has urged people to celebrate ‘Cow Hug Day’ on February 14 which is celebrated as Valentine’s Day.

“We all know that the Cow is the backbone of Indian culture and rural economy, sustains our life, and represents cattle wealth and biodiversity. It is known as “Kamdhenu” and “Gaumata” because of its nourishing nature like mother, the giver of all providing riches to humanity,” the Animal Welfare Board informed in a statement.

The body said that the Vedic traditions are on the verge of “extinction” due to the progress of western culture.

“The dazzle of western civilization has made our culture and heritage almost forgotten,” the Board stated.

As per the Animal Welfare Board, owing to its immense benefits, hugging cows will bring emotional richness and increase “individual and collective happiness”.

“Therefore, all the cow lovers may also celebrate February 14 as Cow Hug day keeping in mind the importance of mother cow and making life happy and full of positive energy,” the statement added.

This issue with the approval of competent authority and on the direction of the Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairyin, the statement added.

After the notification, the Uttar Pradesh Animal Husbandry Minister Dharampal Singh also urged people to celebrate ‘Cow Hug Day’, instead of Valentine’s Day on February 14.

Talking to ANI, the Minister said, “On one hand, Valentine’s Day will be celebrated all over the world on February 14, on the other hand, the Animal Welfare Society of India has given another option to those having problems with Valentine’s Day. They can celebrate Cow Hug Day if they want.”

He said that there are many people in India who have a lot of problems with celebrating Valentine’s Day, and for them, the government has declared this day.

“Cow is the mother of the world and it is the only animal in the world whose urine and dung also work as medicine. One can get rid of many diseases with its mere touch, that’s why I would also like that people should celebrate Cow Hug Day instead of Valentine’s Day on February 14,” he further said.

Further talking about Valentine’s Day, he said, “I also feel that Valentine’s Day should not be celebrated because distance should be kept from those things which cause perversion in the society.”

  • Provide new vehicle or remove security: Suspended BJP MLA Raja Singh

Provide new vehicle or remove security: Suspended BJP MLA Raja Singh

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: Goshamahal MLA T Raja Singh, who is still in suspension from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), demanded the ruling BRS government here to provide him with a new Bullet Resistant (BR) vehicle or withdraw the vehicle and security he currently has.

On Thursday, the black coloured BR vehicle’s front tyre had to be removed after the vehicle was on the run on the Mangalhat police station ground. Raja Singh was returning home after attending the assembly session when the driver noticed the vehicle tyre getting damaged.

“After great difficulty we managed to bring the vehicle to the roadside. We were going at a low speed hence any major accident averted. Otherwise, the vehicle would have overturned and consequences would have been fatal,” T Raja Singh told media persons.

The MLA said home minister Mohd Mahmood Ali should be ashamed of showing negligent attitude in taking care of the security of the sitting MLA. “Check and replace the vehicle at the earliest or you have other plans?” questioned Raja Singh. The BJP MLA is currently out on bail, which was given to him by the Telangana high court after it quashed his imprisonment under the Preventive Detention (PD) Act in the Prophet remarks case.

Previously, Raja Singh’s vehicle developed technical snags forcing it to be taken for repairs. The MLA then also demanded replacement of his vehicle. Singh is provided with 2+2 round the clock security and a BR vehicle.

    Bypassing high court’s gag order

The BJP legislator passed derogatory remarks against Prophet Muhammed last year in response to the state government allowing comedian Munawar Faruqui to hold a show in Hyderabad. Raja Singh’s comments sparked several protests and he was soon arrested by the city police and eventually put in prison.

Hit with a gag order from the Telangana High Court, suspended Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA T Raja Singh seems to be subverting his restrictions by passing communal and inflammatory remarks from outside the state.

While quashing Singh’s detention in jail under the PD Act last year, the High Court, as part of its bail order, warned the BJP MLA was told not to make provocative speeches or speak in public. So far, a case has already been registered against him in recent times for violating the court orders (with the Mangalhat police station). Raja Singh was served another notice by the Hyderabad police on January 29 for a hate speech in Mumbai.

His statements come just months ahead of the Telangana state elections, which are due this year. With restrictions on him, Raja Singh is currently unable to carry out political campaigns or hold public rallies as he would have ideally done in the run-up to the polls. It is unsure how the state judiciary will react to him making speeches outside, with the logic that it is beyond the HC’s jurisdiction.

  • British Indian Princess Sophia Duleep Singh to get Blue Plaque in UK

British Indian Princess Sophia Duleep Singh to get Blue Plaque in UK

    [ad_1]

London: Sophia Duleep Singh, the daughter of Maharaja Duleep Singh the last ruler of the Sikh empire and the goddaughter of Queen Victoria, is to be honoured with a commemorative Blue Plaque in London.

Princess Sophia was among the leading suffragettes who fought for women’s right to vote in 1900s Britain.

The Blue Plaque scheme, run by the English Heritage charity, honours the historic significance of particular buildings associated with historical figures and its 2023 cohort includes the 19th-century home of the British Indian Princess.

“Daughter of the deposed Maharajah Duleep Singh, who already has a plaque in Holland Park (London), and goddaughter of Queen Victoria, Princess Sophia Duleep Singh was an active suffragette and made full use of her royal title to generate support for female enfranchisement,” notes English Heritage in its Blue Plaque announcement this week.

“She was a dedicated member of the Women’s Social and Political Union (WSPU) and the Women’s Tax Resistance League (WTRL). The plaque will mark the large house near Hampton Court Palace which was granted to Sophia and her sisters as a grace and favour apartment by Queen Victoria in 1896,” it notes.

British Indian writer Anita Anand, the author of Sophia: Princess, Suffragette, Revolutionary’, expressed her excitement at the historical heroine being recognised with a Blue Plaque.

“Princess Sophia Duleep Singh will finally get the recognition she deserves,” said Anand.

It is among six new plaques unveiled for the year, including fellow suffragette Emily Wilding Davison’s home in Kensington in London and violinist and composer Yehudi Menuhin’s six-storey house in Belgravia, where he lived for the last 16 years of his life.

Others include anti-racism activist Claudia Jones, London’s first female Mayor Ada Salter and Pre-Raphaelite model Marie Spartali Stillman.

“Every year, English Heritage’s blue plaques offer a glimpse of the very best of human achievement,” said William Whyte, architectural historian and Professor of Social and Architectural History at Oxford University, who takes over as the new Chair of the Blue Plaques Panel at English Heritage.

“In my first year as Chair of the panel, I am particularly excited to recognise so many who fought for what they believed in. From Emily Wilding Davison, who famously died for her cause, to Claudia Jones, whose life-long struggle for social justice helped inspire the Notting Hill Carnival, these are people who made a difference and it’s an honour to play a part in making sure that their contributions are remembered,” he said.

Last year, to coincide with the 75th anniversary celebrations of Indian Independence, the south London home where Dadabhai Naoroji lived for around eight years at the end of the 19th century was commemorated with a Blue Plaque.

The prominent member of the Indian freedom struggle and Britain’s first Indian parliamentarian, often referred to as the “grand old man of India”, is reported to have moved to Washington House, 72 Anerley Park, Penge, Bromley, at a time when his thoughts were turning increasingly towards full independence for India in 1897.

That red-brick home now has a plaque which reads: “Dadabhai Naoroji 1825-1917 Indian Nationalist and MP lived here”. He is among several Indian freedom struggle leaders commemorated with plaques, including Mahatma Gandhi and Jawaharlal Nehru.

  • Act of political vendetta: BJP MLA Raja Singh on police notices

Act of political vendetta: BJP MLA Raja Singh on police notices

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: Suspended Goshamahal BJP MLA T Raja Singh denied making any provocative speeches and asked the Hyderabad police which issued him a show cause notice to drop the same.

The Mangalhat police had issued a notice to Raja Singh for a provocative speech he made at a rally in Mumbai on Sunday. The police cited the conditions of the Telangana High Court while granting him bail in connection with a case booked for making derogatory comments against Prophet Muhammad last year. The court, while giving him bail, said that the MLA should not make provocative speeches or post on social media.

In his reply to the notice served on him by the Mangalhat police, Raja SIngh said these actions are expected in the light of fact that elections are approaching and to create fear in the mind of political opponents. This, he said, is evident from the series of actions since the “malicious invoking of Preventive Detention Act” was made against him. “I reasonably believe, it is an act of political vendetta and your esteemed machinery is put into action under force,” he stated.

He further stated that the contents of the notice express that the Hyderabad police took “suo –motu cognizance” of his speech at Mumbai. He said it was beyond the jurisdiction, and that it was taken without any complaint from anybody to the said effect.

    Singh denies all wrongdoing

“I categorically deny having made any provocative statements or speech, deny having violated the Honourable High Court orders and well deny all adverses allegations levied against me under the show cause notice under reply. The notice is an act of creating unwarranted pressure on me and an attempt to meddle with my fundamental right of freedom of speech and expression and my right to public meetings and gatherings and my duty as a public representative. The rally was held under due permission and no complaint as such till the day the notice under reply is issued is known to have been lodged anywhere in context to alleged speech you refer to in your notice,” Raja Singh added.

Singh asked to explain statements in notice

The high court had quashed his detention under the PD Act and released him in November on bail after his arrest. The court however imposed certain conditions for his release, including that Raja Singh should not make any provocative speeches against any religion or post any derogatory or offensive posts on any social media platforms.

“But on January 29 your speech during ‘Janakrosh Morcha’ at Dadar was circulating in social media. In the video your speech is very much provocative to a particular community regarding demands of laws on love jihad, cow slaughter, conversion and a few other words,” the notice issued to Raja Singh by the Mangalhat police stated.

It further added, “Your speech with potential to provoke a particular religion is violation of conditions imposed by the HC.” The police has asked Raja Singh to explain why action should not be initiated against him for violating the conditions imposed by the High Court.
