Salman Khan’s song shot on Chiranjeevi’s land in Hyderabad

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: The Indian film industry is no stranger to extravagant sets and filming locations. Filmmakers go to great lengths to create visually stunning films, from sprawling outdoor locations to massive indoor sets. The massive temple set erected for Megastar Chiranjeevi’s ‘Acharya’ film in Hyderabad’s outskirts has sparked the interest of many.

The set, which was reportedly built on Chiranjeevi’s own land in the Kokapet area, cost around Rs. 25 crores and was built by art producer Suresh Selvarajan. However, what many may not know is that the same set was modified into a village set for Bollywood star Salman Khan’s upcoming film, ‘Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan’.

According to sources, Salman Khan and the film’s main crew were in Hyderabad in the first week of June last year to begin shooting for Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan on the same set. Farhad Samji directed the film, which also stars Venkatesh in a key role, with Pooja Hegde playing the female lead.

The artificial mini-temple town of Dharmasthali, which was a special attraction of the Acharya set itself, is one of the most unique aspects of the film set. The grand temple structure was built within the set’s premises, adding grandeur and authenticity to the film’s setting.

Interestingly, the latest song from ‘Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan,’ ‘Yentamma,’ was shot on the same set. The song includes a special appearance by Ram Charan, making it even more entertaining and engaging for film fans.

Pakistan: Sikh businessman shot dead by unknown gunmen in Peshawar

    [ad_1]

Peshawar: A Sikh businessman was shot dead on Friday by unknown assailants here, in the latest incident of targeted attacks against minority communities in Pakistan.

The incident took place at 3 pm when armed men on a motorcycle opened fire at Dayal Singh, a businessman in Peshawar’s Dir Colony area, police said.

The gunmen fled the scene after committing the crime, they said.

Police have collected 30 bore bullet shells from the site of the crime. CCTV footage from the shop has been obtained and the police have launched an investigation into the attack.

The Peshawar killing comes a day after a Hindu doctor was shot dead by unknown assailants in Karachi.

Last week, shopkeepers from the minority Hindu community were assaulted in the Sindh province for “allegedly violating the Ramzan ordinance,” according to the Express Tribune newspaper.

About 15,000 Sikhs live in Peshawar, mostly in the Jogan Shah neighbourhood of the provincial capital Peshawar.

Most of the members of the Sikh community in Peshawar are involved in business, while some also have pharmacies.

In September last year, a well-known Sikh hakeem’ (Unani medicine practitioner) was shot dead by unidentified gunmen inside his clinic in Peshawar.

In 2018, Charanjit Singh, a prominent Sikh community member, was killed by unknown men in Peshawar.

Similarly, news channel anchor Ravinder Singh was killed in 2020 in the city. In 2016, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf National Assembly member Soren Singh was also killed in Peshawar.

Hindus form the biggest minority community in Pakistan.

According to official estimates, 75 lakh Hindus live in the Muslim-majority country.

Muslims account for about 96 per cent of Pakistan’s 207 million population, Hindus 2.1 per cent and Christians about 1.6 per cent according to the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan estimates.

The majority of Pakistan’s Hindu population is settled in Sindh province where they share culture, traditions and language with their Muslim residents.

The Ahmadis, Sikhs and Parsis are also among the notable religious minorities in Pakistan.

  • Russia releases trailer for first feature film shot in space

Russia releases trailer for first feature film shot in space

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: Russian has released a trailer for the first ever feature film to be shot in space.

“The Challenge” was shot aboard the International Space Station (ISS) over the course of 12 days in 2021. It is about a female cardiac surgeon called Zhenya (played by Russian actress Yulia Peresild) who is part of a team of doctors sent to operate on a cosmonaut (played by cosmonaut Oleg Novitskiy) who loses consciousness while on the orbital station.

The film is a joint project of Roscosmos, Russia’s Channel One and the Yellow, Black and White studio. Russian cosmonauts Anton Shkaplerov, Novitsky and Pyotr Dubrov also have parts in the movie.

Overall, about 35-40 minutes of the film’s screen time were to be filmed in orbit.

“The Challenge” will be released on April 12.

“The movie is aimed to popularise Russia’s space activities, as well as glorify (the) cosmonaut profession,” according to Russian space agency Roscomos.

At the time of filming, NASA stated that it “marks the expansion of commercial space opportunities to include feature filmmaking”.

Roscosmos first announced the film project in November 2020 and Peresild, 37, was chosen for the role.

Peresild and producer-director Klim Shipenko travelled to the ISS alongside veteran Russian cosmonaut Anton Shkaplerov in October 2021 and filmed the movie over the course of 12 days.

Although “The Challenge” is the first feature-length film to be shot in space, it’s not the first project to be filmed aboard the ISS.

Earlier, Soviet-era cosmonauts filmed aboard Soyuz T-9 and inside the Salyut 7 space station for the Russian 1984 narrative film “Return from Orbit.”

Twenty-four years later, privately-funded astronaut Richard Garriott shot “Apogee of Fear,” a short science fiction film set aboard ISS.

The list also includes a 2002 IMAX documentary narrated by Tom Cruise and a 2012 eight-minute science fiction film by entrepreneur and space tourist Richard Garriott.

In 2020, Cruise, along with director Doug Liman, had revealed plans to travel to the ISS to shoot a feature film in collaboration with Elon Musk’s SpaceX and NASA.

  • Boris Johnson fires shot against UK PM Rishi Sunak’s Brexit deal

Boris Johnson fires shot against UK PM Rishi Sunak’s Brexit deal

    [ad_1]

London: Britain’s former premier Boris Johnson on Thursday criticised Prime Minister Rishi Sunak’s new Brexit deal with the European Union, saying he will find it “very difficult” to vote for it in Parliament.

Sunak has been riding high on a largely positive wave since the British Prime Minister declared a “decisive breakthrough” with the EU in the form of a Windsor Framework, which replaces his former boss’ controversial Northern Ireland Protocol.

The British Indian leader told the House of Commons that the new pact puts “beyond all doubt that we have now taken back control”.

However, Johnson now a disgruntled backbench Conservative Party MP told a Global Soft Power Summit in London on Thursday that he would find it “very difficult” to vote for the new deal in Parliament.

“I’m conscious I’m not going to be thanked for saying this, but I think it is my job to do so: we must be clear about what is really going on here,” said Johnson.

“This is not about the UK taking back control, and although there are easements this is really a version of the solution that was being offered last year to (former British prime minister) Liz Truss when she was foreign secretary. This is the EU graciously unbending to allow us to do what we want to do in our own country, not by our laws but by theirs,” he said.

“I’m going to find it very difficult to vote for something like this myself because I believe that we should have done something different. No matter how much plaster came off the ceiling in Brussels,” he added.

Johnson said he hopes the new deal works but if it doesn’t, the government should have “the guts” to re-table the Northern Ireland Protocol Bill he had drafted which would allow the UK to unilaterally change parts of the previous Brexit protocol without the EU’s permission. While the EU claims such a move breaches international law, Johnson believes it is the Bill that ultimately “brought the EU to negotiate seriously”.

Sunak had pulled the Bill from Parliament after he agreed a new deal with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen in Windsor on Monday, following months of intensive talks.

It is hoped the Windsor Framework would break the deadlock over the contentious and unworkable Northern Ireland Protocol, which was designed to prevent a post-Brexit hard border on the island of Ireland between UK territory Northern Ireland and EU member-state Ireland but which effectively created a trade divide.

Now, Sunak is waiting for the response of the Northern Irish Democratic Unionist Party (DUP) and the clear backing of hard Brexiteers within his own Tory party for the new framework. Johnson’s intervention is expected to influence the latter to some extent but there is a general consensus that Sunak is unlikely to face any major rebellion in the ranks over the issue.

After what has been widely seen as a win for his leadership abilities, the Prime Minister has decided to treat his party colleagues to an “away day” in Windsor the site of the new Brexit framework.

According to The Times’ newspaper, Conservative Party MPs have been bussed from London to Windsor on Thursday morning for 24 hours of bonding, teambuilding and strategising.

Palestinian man shot dead after Israeli forces raid camp in West Bank

    [ad_1]

Ramallah: A Palestinian man died of wounds sustained during an Israeli army raid on a refugee camp near the West Bank town of Jericho, the Palestinian Health Ministry said.

The Palestinian liaison office of security coordination with Israel informed the Ministry that Jamal Hamdan, 22, died hours after he was shot by Israeli soldiers in the Aqabat Jabr refugee camp, the Ministry said in a press statement on Wednesday.

Palestinian witnesses said heavy clashes broke out in the refugee camp between dozens of Palestinians and the Israeli soldiers who stormed the camp, Xinhua news agency reported.

The Israeli military confirmed that one Palestinian, who was shot while fleeing the scene, died on the way to a hospital while three others were arrested during the raid. It accused the arrested Palestinians of being behind the killing of an Israeli citizen near Jericho a few days ago.

The tensions have been running high between Israelis and Palestinians in the West Bank and East Jerusalem since January, leading to the killing of 65 Palestinians and 13 Israelis so far this year, according to official Palestinian and Israeli figures.
