Rs 2,000 cr deal to ‘purchase’ Shiv Sena name and symbol, claims Sanjay Raut

    [ad_1]

Mumbai: Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) leader Sanjay Raut on Sunday claimed a “deal of Rs 2000 crore” has taken place so far to “purchase” the Shiv Sena party name and its ‘bow and arrow’ symbol.

However, MLA Sada Sarvankar from the camp led by Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde dismissed the claim and asked, “Is Sanjay Raut a cashier?”

Raut in a tweet claimed the Rs 2,000 crore was a preliminary figure and this was 100 percent true. He also told reporters that a builder close to the ruling dispensation shared this information with him.

The Rajya Sabha member said his claim was backed by proof which he would disclose soon.

The Election Commission on Friday recognised the Eknath Shinde-led faction as the real Shiv Sena and ordered allocation of the ‘bow and arrow’ poll symbol to it.

In a 78-page order on the protracted battle for control of the organisation, the EC allowed the Uddhav Thackeray faction to keep the “flaming torch” poll symbol allocated to it till the completion of the Assembly bypolls in the state.

Raut on Sunday said Rs 2,000 crore is not a small amount to “purchase” the name Shiv Sena.

“The EC’s decision is a deal,” he alleged.

“I have reliable information that there has been a deal of Rs 2000 crore to get the Shiv Sena name and its symbol. This is a preliminary figure and is 100 percent true. Many things will be revealed shortly. Never before this has happened in the country’s history,” Raut tweeted.

To a question on Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s attack on former Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray with “licking soles of those with opposite ideology” jibe, Raut asked, “What is the present chief minister licking? Maharashtra doesn’t give importance to what Shah says. The current chief minister has no right to take Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s name.”

Shah on Saturday said those who chose to “lick the soles” of people with opposite ideologies have found which side truth was on after the EC declared the faction headed by Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde as the real Shiv Sena and gave it the ‘bow and arrow’ symbol.

Without naming Uddhav Thackeray, Shah also reiterated there was no agreement on sharing the chief minister’s post in the run up to the 2019 Assembly polls.

The Shiv Sena broke its alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party after the results of the 2019 Assembly polls were declared, claiming the latter had reneged on a promise to share the CM’s post with it.

Uddhav Thackeray subsequently teamed up with the Nationalist Congress Party and the Congress to lead the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA), till it fell in June last year after Shinde rebelled.

  • AAP slams EC ruling on Shiv Sena factions, calls it part of BJP’s ‘Operation Lotus’

AAP slams EC ruling on Shiv Sena factions, calls it part of BJP’s ‘Operation Lotus’

    [ad_1]

Mumbai: The Aam Aadmi Party on Saturday condemned the decision of the Election Commission of India to recognise the faction led by Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde as the real Shiv Sena and said it was an extension of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s “Operation Lotus”.

“Operation Lotus” is a term used by opposition parties alleging foul play on the part of the BJP to topple governments in states by poaching legislators and bringing about splits in ruling parties.

The Election Commission (EC) on Friday allotted the name ‘Shiv Sena’ and its poll symbol ‘bow and arrow’ to the group led by CM Shinde, in the process delivering a big blow to Uddhav Thackeray, whose father Bal Thackeray founded the outfit in 1966.

Institutions like the EC are acting as though choreographed to singularly benefit the BJP, whose culture is one of naked power grab through any means, AAP Mumbai president Preeti Sharma Menon said in a statement here.

“The conduct of EC will even put the proverbial ‘caged parrot’ to shame. Under BJP rule, institution after institution has been destroyed and have been reduced to mere ‘puppets’ and ‘rubberstamps’. The Election Commission is no exception. We have regressed as a democracy,” she alleged.

“The EC order is an extension of Operation Lotus,” she said, adding the Modi government at the Centre and the (state) governor were dubious in their conduct to give an illegal defection (rebellion by Shinde) the colour of a party takeover.

These dangerous acts strike at the very foundations of federalism of our Constitution, she said, adding the BJP’s undemocratic nature is reflective of the RSS’ anti-constitutional psyche.

Meanwhile, the party’s national joint secretary and working president Ruben Mascarenhas said the lotus blooms in dirt and Operation Lotus succeeded with the Congress and Shiv Sena “because there was dirt there”.

He said it did not succeed with the AAP as it is clean and has a playbook to defeat the BJP.

  • Shiv Sena (UBT) to challenge EC decision on name-symbol in court

Shiv Sena (UBT) to challenge EC decision on name-symbol in court

    [ad_1]

Mumbai: The Shiv Sena (UBT) on Friday said it would move the Delhi High Court to challenge the decision of the Election Commission (EC) on awarding the party’s original name ‘Shiv Sena’ and its symbol ‘Bow and Arrow’ to the Balasahebanchi Shiv Sena headed by Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.

Shiv Sena (UBT) chief spokesperson and MP Sanjay Raut slammed the EC move, saying it made a mockery of truth and justice.

“… 40 people laid claim over Balasaheb Thackeray’s Shiv Sena and the EC approved it. The script was already written and ready,” said Raut.

The Sena (UBT) leader said “the country is heading towards dictatorship” and “the traitor kept saying that the (EC) verdict will be in his favour. A miracle has happened! Keep fighting”.

On the other hand, the BSS leaders including Shinde, Shambhuraj Desai and others welcomed the EC move, and said that they would now start working immediately under the new name and symbol.

“It’s a victory for the ideals of Hindu Hriday Samrat Balasaheb Thackeray and Anand Dighe, all the elected representatives (MLAs and MPs) who are with me and lakhs of workers. It’s the triumph of democracy and the EC decision has come on merits in our favour. Our government was formed based on the Constitution, majority support and the peoples’ mandate,” said Shinde.

The EC verdict was also hailed as ‘historic’ by the ruling ally state Bharatiya Janata Party President Chandrashekhar Bawankule, and called it ‘Satyameva Jayate’ (triumph of truth).

Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said that Shinde’s party, which was following the ideals of the late Balasaheb Thackeray, has been given the name ‘Shiv Sena’ and ‘Bow and Arrow’ symbol.

Fadnavis said that they were hopeful of the verdict as the Election Commission has relied on its past decisions in similar cases, and hence, ruled in favour of Shinde in a free and fearless manner despite pressure from the other side.

Sena (UBT)’s spokesperson Sushma Andhare said that the party will give a legal challenge to the EC ruling and “the next battle will be fought in the courts”.

She accused the government of deploying central probe agencies and misusing public offices, which led to the collapse of the erstwhile Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government in June 2022.

Leader of Opposition in Council Ambadas Danve said that Sena (UBT) President Uddhav Thackeray will address the media later on Friday night, and present views on the EC verdict.

Fadnavis added that now the real Shiv Sena, founded by Balasaheb Thackeray, has now come to Shinde who has been following his ideals and principles, and the Sena (UBT) was free to challenge the EC ruling in the high court.

Meanwhile, the ECI decision was greeted with cheers, slogans of “Shiv Sena Zindabad, Eknath Shinde Zindabad”, bursting of fire-crackers, distributing sweets, displaying the ‘Shiv Sena’ name and ‘Bow and Arrow’ symbols, in the CM’s home town Thane, Nashik, Aurangabad and other places in Maharashtra.

New Delhi: The Election Commission on Friday recognised the Eknath Shinde-led faction as the real Shiv Sena and ordered allocation of the “bow and arrow” poll symbol to it.

In a 78-page order on the protracted battle for control of the organisation, the Commission allowed the Uddhav Thackeray faction to keep the “flaming torch” poll symbol allocated to it till the completion of the assembly bypolls in the state.

The Commission said MLAs backing Eknath Shinde got nearly 76 percent of votes polled in favour of the 55 winning Shiv Sena candidates in the 2019 Maharashtra Assembly polls.

The Uddhav Thackeray faction’s MLAs got 23.5 percent of votes polled in favour of the winning Shiv Sena candidates, the three-member Commission said in a unanimous order.

BRS, AAP, Shiv Sena-UBT stage walkout from RS after chair rejects notices on Adani row

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: Members of the Aam Aadmi Party, Shiv Sena Thackeray faction and Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) on Wednesday staged a walkout from the Rajya Sabha after their adjournment notices were disallowed by the chair.

Soon after laying of papers, Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar said he has received four notices under Rule 267 from BRS member K Keshava Rao, AAP member Sanjay Singh and Shiv Sena members Sanjay Raut and Priyanka Chaturvedi and disallowed the same.

Rao stood up and raised objection to the Rajya Sabha chairman’s remarks on Tuesday on their boycott of the House.

Sanjay Singh also rose to seek a discussion on the Adani issue but was not allowed by the chair as their notices were disallowed.

Soon, the BRS, Sena and AAP members staged a walkout from the House.

The House started the discussion on the motion of thanks to the president’s address as there was no Zero Hour and Question Hour. The discussion on the motion of thanks would continue without lunch break.

“I have received four notices under Rule 267 from Sanjay Raut, K Keshava Rao, Sanjay Singh, Priyanka Chaturvedi. I reiterate my stand. I have carefully gone through them. I do not find the notices in order. I am constrained not to allow them,” the chairman said.

On BRS member Rao’s anguish over the chairman’s remarks made on Tuesday, he said, “The kind of aggressive body language you are reflecting is most unfortunate. You have perhaps not had the occasion to go through what I had said yesterday with full sense of sublimity, sobriety and seriousness.”

Asking him to take his seat, he said, “This is not the way we conduct this House. What I said is on record, you can take recourse to rules. This is not the way to do it. I have conveyed my sentiments and these are the sentiments of millions of people.”

Dhankhar said for the first time in this country, a history of the “wrong type” has been created by engaging in a proclaimed boycott of the President.

“I would urge the members, we are sending a very dangerous signal to people. Their anger is beyond tolerance. Every time in the morning they see this spectacle of the House being plunged into disorder as part of strategy,” the chairman said.

AAP, BRS members created uproar by raising slogans of “PM sadan mein aao. jawaab do. JPC se jaanch karao (PM should come to the House and answer and JPC probe should be ordered)” and later staged a walkout.

They later held a demonstration in front of the Gandhi statue in Parliament premises.

  • Surprised over morcha against ‘love jihad’: Shiv Sena

Surprised over morcha against ‘love jihad’: Shiv Sena

    [ad_1]

Mumbai: The Shiv Sena (UBT) on Monday took a dig at the Bharatiya Janata Party over right-wing groups taking out a march against “love-jihad” and questioned the need for such a protest when the “so-called Hindutvavadi government” is in power at the Centre and Maharashtra.

In an editorial in the party mouthpiece Saamana, the Uddhav Thackeray faction of Shiv Sena said BJP plays its “trump card” whenever it feels jolts of defeat. Now they have begun the game of playing the Hindu-Muslim card, it said.

Activists of right-wing organisations on Sunday took out a ‘Hindu Jan Akrosh Morcha’ in Mumbai against ‘love jihad’ and demanded anti-conversion laws and a crackdown on land grabbing in the name of religion. Leaders and workers of outfits including the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), Bajrang Dal, and Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) marched in the rally.

The rally, organised by Sakal Hindu Samaj, began from Shivaji Park in Dadar — where Shiv Sena Bhavan, the headquarters of the UBT faction of the party, is located.

“There is a so-called fierce Hindutvavadi government in the state as well at the Centre. Then how come your (the ones who took out the rally) Hindutva is in danger?

“With Modi-Shah at the Centre, there is a Ramrajya and this state is a heaven for Hindus this is what their (supporters of the BJP) people say. So it is surprising that there was still the ‘Aakrosh’ morcha (rally),” it said.

The Saamana further said taking out such a march would have been logical had the Muslim League been (ruling) the Centre and the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) government in Maharashtra.

“If there is a question of love-jihad or forced conversion then there should be a strong law. But whenever elections are around the corner there is a talk of ‘Hindutva being in danger’ in BJP-ruled states,” it said.

If the ‘Aakrosh’ morcha was just for elections, then it is dishonesty towards Hindutva, it said.

It also took a dig at the BJP-led Centre, saying conferring Padma Vibhushan on “Maulana” Mulayam Singh, the late Samajwadi Party patriarch, is an “insult to sacrifices of thousands of karsevaks of the Ram Mandir movement”.

  • Rahul Gandhi capable to be India’s PM: Shiv Sena’s Sanjay Raut

Rahul Gandhi capable to be India’s PM: Shiv Sena’s Sanjay Raut

    [ad_1]

Jammu: Shiv Sen (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut on Saturday said Congress leader Rahul Gandhi leading the Bharat Jodo Yatra is capable to be the prime minister of India and no third front will be successful sans the grand old party.

He said the purpose of Gandhi’s Yatra from Kanyakumari to Kashmir is to remove the hatred and fear and not to unite the opposition parties under the banner of his party.

“Ideological and political differences apart, he (Gandhi) will show his leadership qualities and will be a big challenge (for the ruling BJP in 2024 general elections). He will make a miracle,” the Member of Parliament told reporters here.

Raut, who walked for nearly 13-km alongside Gandhi between Hatli Morh and Chandwal amid rain on Friday, said the BJP has spread a wrong notion about the Congress leader but this Yatra has busted all their myths about him.

“Why not?” he said when asked whether Gandhi is capable of becoming the prime minister of India.

“Not everyone can walk from Kanyakumari to Kashmir, covering a distance of over 3,500 kms. It needs a lot of determination and love for the country. He has shown his concern for the country and I do not see any politics in this Yatra,” the Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) leader said.

However, he said Gandhi himself has been saying that he is not willing to be the prime minister but “when people want to see him on the top post, he will be left with no choice”.

Rejecting the idea of a third front without the Congress, Raut said the grand old party has a lot of weight and has presence in every nook and corner of the country. “No third front can be successful without Congress, this time it has a low number of MPs but the situation is going to change in 2024. Without the Congress, no front can be successful is a reality and this needs to be taken into account.”

“The main purpose of my visit to J and K was to join the Gandhi-led Yatra at the direction of my leader and I had a good experience walking alongside Gandhi. It is not a political Yatra,” he said.

Raut, who reached here on January 19 and also visited protesting Kashmiri Pandit and Dogra employees seeking relocation from Kashmir over the past six months following the targeted killings, said he was surprised to find out that J-K is faced with the same issues which were discussed by him over a decade ago.

“Governments changed and so the politics but whether it is an issue of Kashmiri Pandits, refugees, law and order situation, security concerns of the people and terrorism, the questions are still same,” he said, slamming the BJP for its “failure to turn Kashmir back into paradise” over the past eight years.

He said four years have passed but there is no assembly election even as Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government promised large scale investment, creation of jobs for unemployed and return and rehabilitation of Kashmiri Pandits.

About the party’s strategy for the next assembly elections whenever held in J-K, Raut said his party is open to a grand alliance provided it gets a respectable place. “Otherwise, we will go for polls alone as J-K is full of public issues which have remained unresolved for years.”

He said the BJP under Modi is a big party but “If you see barring a few states, it is dependent on other parties or divided its own coalition partners to stay in power.”
