IPL 2023: Chakaravarthy, Russell, Suyash shine as KKR beat RCB by 21 runs

Bengaluru: Spinners Varun Chakaravarthy and Suyash Sharma collectively took five wickets while Andre Russell picked two wickets as Kolkata Knight Riders ended their four-match losing streak in IPL 2023 by defeating Royal Challengers Bangalore by 21 runs in an high-scoring match at M Chinnaswamy Stadium, here on Wednesday.

An aggressive 56 from Jason Roy and a quick 48 from captain Nitish Rana, along with unbeaten cameos from Rinku Singh and David Wiese propelled Kolkata Knight Riders to 200/5.

In defence, Suyash began the pullback for Kolkata by taking 2/29, before Chakaravarthy and Russell picked 3/27 and 2/29 respectively in restricting Bangalore to 179/8, despite captain Virat Kohli’s 54 and Mahipal Lomror impressing in an 18-ball 34.

Chasing 201, Kohli and Faf du Plessis took a boundary each off Vaibhav Arora in the opening over. Kohli firmly punched Umesh Yadav through cover for four more, followed by du Plessis carting him for back-to-back sixes.

Du Plessis’s stay came to an end in the third over, holing out to long-on off a flighted googly from Suyash. Kohli continued to pull off him and Chakaravarthy for boundaries, though Suyash struck by trapping Shahbaz Ahmad lbw. In the last over of power-play, Kolkata struck again when Glenn Maxwell hit a slower delivery from Chakravarthy straight to mid-off.

Lomror broke a sedate period for Bangalore by sweeping fiercely off Nitish Rana for four, followed by muscling a brace of sixes through the leg-side off Sunil Narine. Kohli got a boundary on a thick outside edge off Suyash and took off for a brace on the very next ball to reach his fifty in 33 balls.

Lomror pulled Chakaravarthy for a six over deep mid-wicket, but the spinner bounced back as the left-handed batter holed out to the same region. The Chinnaswamy crowd was further silenced in the 13th over when Kohli pulled off Russell, only for Venkatesh Prasad to dive to his left and take a stunning low catch.

Though Dinesh Karthik and Suyash Prabhudessai hit a boundary each, the latter being slow in taking the second run resulted in his run-out at the non-striker’s end. Kolkata ended Bangalore’s last hope for a victory by having Wanindu Hasaranga and Karthik caught in the deep in successive overs, making the result a foregone conclusion.

Brief Scores: Kolkata Knight Riders 200/5 in 20 overs (Jason Roy 56, Nitish Rana 48; Wanindu Hasaranga 2/24, Vyshak Vijaykumar 2/41) beat Royal Challengers Bangalore (Virat Kohli 54, Mahipal Lomror 34; Varun Chakravarthy 3/27, Andre Russell 2/29) by 21 runs.

Riyadh’s Karimnagar Committee – Unsung heroes serving in rain or shine

Jeddah: In a world of constant connection through social media and cell phones, many expatriates have likely found themselves still feeling disconnected from those around them. Many NRIs don’t even know the people who are from the same niegbourhoods living abroad along with them.

Connecting with compatriots from the homeland not only strengthens bonds within the community in alien land but also renders service to them in rain or shine, this is the concept of the Karimnagar Committee.

Riyadh-based Karimnagar Committee, an expatriate organization that looks after NRIs from Karimnagar town of Telangana is one of the sincere and old organizations in the Saudi capital that has been serving the needs of Karimnagar NRIs for over two decades.

Interestingly it’s the maiden community organization of the Karimnagar NRIs not only in Saudi Arabia but the rest of the Gulf countries yet maintains a low profile and is far away from any publicity.

Karimnagar Committee as it is widely known among the NRIs hailing from the town and working primarily in Riyadh.

In fact, it was the one that facilitated employment opportunities for scores of newly arriving Karimnagar youth in search of green pastures. It imparted job orientation skills among youth before being recruited thus making it dearer to many youngsters in the town.

Only the “Karimnagar” tag is a criterion to find shared accommodation in Hara for unemployed youth of the town.

Ramzan Packs, an initiative kickstarted 20 years ago saw numerous beneficiaries from low income families in need during the holy month of Ramadan.

Karimnagar Committee holds its annual Iftar gathering in a sheer spiritual environment away from so-called leaders and officials. This is the only gathering that enthusiastic Karimnagaris come together, according to organisers.

In a joyful Ramadan atmosphere, the Karimnagar Committee held an annual Iftar party on Friday at a resort on the outskirts of Riyadh, in which it was keen on meeting all Karimnagaris as one family around Dastarkhwan or Iftar mats.

Pahalgam Set To Shine On Tamil Cinema: Shooting Commences

SRINAGAR: Days after the famous Bollywood duo Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhat landed in the world-famous ski resort of Gulmarg to shoot one of the movie’s songs, filmmakers of Tamil industry – Kollywood, reached south Kashmir’s Pahalgam to shoot for their upcoming action movie.

People with the knowhow of things said that two famous super-stars of the Tamil film industry, Vijay Chandrasekhar and Trisha Krishnan are shooting in the health resort Pahalgam for their upcoming movie “Leo” – a gangster action film directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj.

One of the crew members talking exclusively to GNS confirmed the shooting of the movie and praised the people of Kashmir, terming them hard-working, hospitable, loveable, and helpful.

He said we struggled a bit while shooting in minus 13-14 degrees, but it was people of this area who cooperated with us in making our shoot smooth and now it is working all fine for us.

“Each early morning, they join us”, he said, adding they are hard workers and we are happy to work with them.

Terming Kashmir as the best location for shooting, he said that filmmakers across India should switch to this beautiful place to shoot their movies, songs, and other work as this place has all the potential one needs in the industry.

In a message to filmmakers, he said, “The union territory of Jammu and Kashmir, with its breathtaking beauty and an incredible landscape dotted with meadows, valleys, high altitude passes, dense forests, lakes, apple orchards, and snow-capped peaks, provides just the picture-perfect setting for shooting a film.”(GNS)

SBK | Bautista and Ducati shine in the dark of Toprak and Rea

A hat-trick, two doubles, five victories in five races: these are just some of Ducati’s stratospheric numbers, which inaugurated the season in grand style, colonizing Phillip Island and turning it red. The opening round of the 2023 World Superbike championship speaks Italian, specifically from Bologna, with the Borgo Panigale manufacturer dominating and leaving nothing but crumbs to the opponents.

Alvaro Bautista is undoubtedly the spearhead of the entire team, in 2022 he brought Ducati back to the top of the world by winning the world championship and there are all the conditions for continuing to dominate. The Spaniard imposed himself in all conditions, and Phillip Island offered moments of uncertainty and excitement: over the three days we went from high temperatures to rain, passing through wind and sun with lower temperatures.

We had already seen from the tests that domination was within the reach of the Bautista-Panigale V4R pairing, despite the Spaniard keeping a low profile. But the fact that he then achieved such dominance as to leave his opponents incredulous was a big surprise during the weekend. You know, the tests offer an initial picture, but then the race always tells another story, often not exactly coinciding with the reality you see during the winter. Difficulty coefficients increase and unexpected events are around the corner. But if we had one certainty in this Australia, it is represented by Ducati.

The Panigale won all three races run, five if you count the two in Supersport, in which Nicolò Bulega triumphed. With his triumph in the Superpole Race, Alvaro Bautista reached 35 victories, becoming the fifth most successful rider in Superbike history and overtaking Tom Sykes. The Iberian is really in shape and, after what he considers “the best winter of his career”, he has shown himself to be even more solid and effective, thanks to the title conquered and the great confidence he has with the Panigale V4R, innovated and further improved for this 2023.

Ducati leaves Australia with full loot, 62 points were up for grabs and 62 were won by Bautista, just as Bulega collected 50 points in the Supersport class. The Spaniard’s advantage in the standings is already large, the first of his pursuers is, surprisingly, Andrea Locatelli, who pays a gap of 28 points, while the two more “noble” rivals, Jonathan Rea and Toprak Razgatlioglu, are third and sixth with a gap of 31 and 39 points respectively.

Faced with a situation like the one we saw at Phillip Island, at Mandalika the opponents are already called to reduce the large gap created both from a technical point of view and from a standings point of view. Of course, a Ducati that dominates in all conditions and does so with relative ease instills great fear in its adversaries, who, however, are only at the start of the run-up.

But what happened to Jonathan Rea and Toprak Razgatlioglu? In the light emanating from Bautista, which shines from the winter tests, the two rivals live in the dark, aware at Phillip Island that the steps forward made during the stop weren’t enough to catch up with Ducati. A few too many problems conditioned the weekend for the Northern Irishman, who had to fight with his Kawasaki before even giving Bautista a hard time, while the Turkish rider appeared to be in trouble throughout the weekend, with the exception of the flash on Saturday morning when took pole position.

The Yamaha rider ran into a zero which in a situation like the current one is already heavy: Race 2 is really a worry for Toprak, who often ends up being involved in accidents that force him to close the race early. In the fight for fourth position he was overwhelmed by an innocent Alex Lowes, who lost the front by hitting the Turkish R1. No physical consequences, but a slip on the track and in the standings already sound heavy, also considering the excellent performance of his teammate Locatelli, author of a solid weekend and second in the championship at 31 points from the leader.

“This year it won’t be just me, Toprak and Johnny who share the victories,” Bautista said over the weekend, referring to his emerging rivals. In fact, the difficulties of Alvaro’s two rivals are allowing other contenders to make their way and to aspire to podium positions, which until 2022 seemed armored. Michael Ruben Rinaldi also shone, and with the exception of the misstep in Race 1 he was author of two second places which allowed Ducati to celebrate two doubles.

Not only factory bikes, the Ducati of Borgo Panigale boasted four bikes in the top five positions in Race 2, with Axel Bassani and Philipp Oettl producing incredible performances, equal if not better than what we all believed could be Bautista’s obvious rivals . Despite a complicated winter, Danilo Petrucci also performed well overall, and with ninth position in Race 2 he gave Ducati the possibility of having all the bikes in the top 10.

The Phillip Island round therefore seems to have outlined the values in the field, but there is a however: historically, the Australian track has always made its own story, offering a realistic but not complete vision. In fact, its particularity has always led it to not be a yardstick. However, the next round is less than a week away, in Mandalika we will return to battle and, with a weekend already behind us, we will be able to have new references to get an idea of the direction this season will take.
