Qatar’s Sheikh Jassim, Ratcliffe make final bids for Manchestor United

    [ad_1]

Doha: In a bidding war, Qatari banker Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al-Thani, son of Qatar’s former prime minister and British billionaire Jim Ratcliffe made their third and final bid to buy Manchester United Football Club on Friday.

The deadline for submitting bids ended at 10 pm GMT on Friday for the Glazer family which owns the club. Both parties are keen to complete the takeover deal that was floated last year.

As per a report by Reuters, Sheikh Jassim has a world-record bid of 6.2 billion dollars to take over Manchester United (MU). He has promised significant additional funding for transfers and infrastructure.

    MS Education Academy

Ratcliffe’s improved bid is yet to be made public. He is willing to take a 50% stake in MU. But Jassim’s attempt is to own the football club completely.

Glazers announced in November the board had “authorised a thorough evaluation of strategic alternatives”, including selling the club.

Investment bank the Raine Group was brought in to oversee the process after it handled the sale of Premier League rivals Chelsea.

After a deadline for expressions of interest in February and a second deadline last month marked a third deadline for bids.

According to AFP, the Glazers reportedly want a world record 6 billion British pound fee for the sporting club before they agree to sell the Old Trafford outfit, raising the possibility that neither Sheikh Jassim nor Ratcliffe’s offer will be accepted.

Sheikh Jassim lines up new Manchester United bid but below Glazers’ valuation

    [ad_1]

Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad al-Thani is expected to lodge an improved third bid of less than £5bn for Manchester United by Friday’s 10pm BST deadline. The offer would be markedly less than the £6bn valuation of the club’s owners, the Glazers.

Sheikh Jassim, a Qatari banker, remains intent on purchasing 100% of the club but will not pay more than what he believes United are worth. The Guardian understands this is more than £1bn below the American family’s asking price.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe, the only other publicly declared buyer for a controlling interest, is thought to want to acquire a little more than 50%, leaving Joel and Avram Glazer with a 20% stake. Ratcliffe, one of Britain’s richest people, may have to borrow to complete that deal.

A third option may be that one or more of the Glazers retain their stake and take investment into the club, with Elliott Investment Management and the Carlyle Group interested in doing so.

The Raine Group, which is orchestrating the sale for the Glazers, has set the deadline in the hope of ending the protracted process in the coming weeks.

Sheikh Mohammed shares clearest image of Mars’ moon Deimos

    [ad_1]

Abu Dhabi: Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, has shared the clearest image ever taken of Mars moon Deimos.

On Monday, Sheikh Mohammed took to Twitter to share the detailed photographs taken by UAE’s Hope Probe, which was launched as part of the Emirates Mars Mission (EMM).

The spacecraft, which spent more than two years orbiting Mars for the first time in the Arab world, flew as close as 100 kilometers to the lunar surface to capture important data on its composition that challenges long-standing theories that the Martian moons are captured asteroids – space rocks trapped in a planet’s orbit.

    MS Education Academy

Sheikh Mohammed praised the new results, expressing his pride in the young scientists who participated in the mission and the contribution they made to the march of human knowledge.

“The Emirates Mars Mission’s “Hope Probe” has captured the clearest image of Martian moon Deimos, which is 100km away, marking a global first,” Sheikh Mohammed tweeted.

“Previously, theories suggested that Deimos was an outer asteroid captured in Martian orbit. However, the Hope Probe’s instruments and team have shown that the moon was once a part of Mars and separated from it millions of years ago, much like Earth’s moon,” he adds.

“We are proud of our young scientists, our knowledge and our contribution to the pursuit of human knowledge,” he added.

The UAE achieved its goal on February 9, 2021, when it became the first Arab country to enter the orbit of the Red Planet and the fifth space agency to accomplish this mission.

Since then, the Hope Probe has been broadcasting amazing pictures of the planet, revealing its geographical features and weather conditions.

Joe Biden calls Israeli PM after Sharm El Sheikh meeting

    [ad_1]

Washington: US President Joe Biden on Sunday spoke with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu over the phone after the Sharm El Sheikh meeting between officials of Israel and the Palestinian Authority.

During the call, Biden welcomed the meeting between senior political and security officials from Israel, the Palestinian Authority, Egypt, Jordan, and the United States with an aim to reduce tensions, the White House said in a readout of the call.

Biden reinforced the need for all sides to take urgent, collaborative steps to enhance security coordination, condemn all acts of terrorism, and maintain the viability of a two-state solution, the White House said.

“The President also underscored his belief that democratic values have always been, and must remain, a hallmark of the U.S.-Israel relationship, that democratic societies are strengthened by genuine checks and balances, and that fundamental changes should be pursued with the broadest possible base of popular support,” it said.

According to the White House, Biden offered support for efforts underway in Israel to forge a compromise on proposed judicial reforms consistent with those core principles.

“The two leaders also discussed tensions and violence in the West Bank,” it said.
Biden reiterated his unwavering commitment to Israel’s security and the ongoing cooperation between the two national security teams, including to counter all threats posed by Iran. Both leaders agreed to stay in regular contact over the coming weeks, the White House said.

“The participants noted that meetings at this level have not taken place in nearly a decade, and that these meetings are building toward establishing a series of understandings upon which to de-escalate tension,” Adrienne Watson, a spokesperson for the National Security Council, White House, said in a separate statement.

We welcome the meeting and understandings reached today in Sharm El Sheikh between senior political and security officials of Israel and the Palestinian Authority,” he said adding that this was the second such meeting in this format, with participation by senior officials from the United States, Egypt, and Jordan, following the gathering in Aqaba three weeks ago.

“We look forward to continuing these discussions as we enter the Holy month of Ramadan, Passover, and Easter, and over the months to follow,” Watson said.

Dhaka: Bangladesh Prime Minister and Awami League (AL) President Sheikh Hasina reiterated her appeal to the countrymen to vote for her party’s election symbol “Boat” to continue the current government’s endeavours to ensure the country’s overall development.

Announcing the date of the next national election during a grand rally at Helipad Ground in Kishoreganj, she said: “The next national election will be held in December next or January, 2024. I urge you to again vote for the ‘Boat’ and bring Awami League to power and thus give another scope to serve you.”

“Bangladesh has turned around in the last 14 years and has achieved dignity by transforming into a developing nation… Bangladesh has appeared as the role model for the development,” she added.

Mentioning that the BNP was formed illegally by Ziaur Rahman, a military dictator who grabbed power violating the county’s constitution, Hasina said, “They (BNP) can give nothing to the people rather can torture and loot them.”

“Whenever had the BNP-Jamaat clique assumed power, they brought untold sufferings for the countrymen and on the contrary, whenever Awami League was voted to power, the fate of the people changed,” the AL chief asserted.
