Prithvi Shaw hit me, claims social media influencer arrested in selfie fight case

Mumbai: Social media influencer Sapna Gill, arrested for allegedly manhandling Indian cricketer Prithvi Shaw over clicking of selfies, claimed before a court here on Friday that it was he who hit her.

Shaw even apologized to her and asked not to file a police complaint, she said.

Gill, arrested on Thursday, was produced before a magistrate’s court here on Friday. The court remanded her in police custody till February 20.

The incident took place outside a luxury hotel in suburban Santacruz on Wednesday during an argument between Shaw on one side and the social media influencer and her male friend on the other after the cricketer refused to click selfies with her.

During the remand hearing, Gill requested that she be allowed to put forward her version of the incident, which the magistrate allowed.

All the allegations against her were false, Gill said, adding, “He (Shaw) hit me on the chest and arms.”

“We were there just to take help of police. They were eight to ten people and we were just two,” Gill said.

Further, the influencer claimed that Shaw and his friend asked her not to file a police complaint, said sorry, and left.

On the claim that the incident took place after she asked for a selfie with Shaw, Gill said, “I do not know him, nor I have ever seen him. I never asked for a selfie with him.”

Gill also denied the allegation that she had asked for Rs 50,000 to settle the case.

“He was totally drunk. He was in front of a police station, he could have filed the FIR then only,” the influencer said. But since Shaw was drunk, he thought of doing that later, Gill claimed.

As per Gill, she and her friend were partying at the VIP lounge of the hotel before Shaw arrived.

Shaw had gone to the hotel, located near the domestic airport, for dinner with his businessman friend when the sequence of events unfolded.

The police complaint was lodged by Shaw’s friend and flatmate Ashish Yadav who runs a cafe.

Thakur and Gill approached Shaw for a selfie at the hotel and initially the cricketer obliged them, said the complaint.

But they insisted on clicking more selfies and Shaw refused, Yadav told police.

Gill and Thakur, who were in an inebriated condition, then started arguing with Shaw, the complaint said. The hotel manager asked Gill and Thakur to leave, it added.

Later, when Shaw and Yadav were leaving the hotel after dinner, they saw Thakur holding a baseball bat in hand. After they sat in their car, the accused attacked the windshield of the vehicle with the baseball bat, the complaint said.

Shaw was also allegedly manhandled by Gill. Sensing more trouble, the cricketer was shifted to another car while Yadav and others drove his vehicle to Oshiwara, he said.

Yadav saw three motorcycles and a white-coloured car chasing their vehicle. Around 4 am, those following him attacked his car when it was taking a U-turn near a petrol pump on Link Road. Thakur, who was one of them, broke the rear windshield of the car with the baseball bat, he alleged.

Based Yadav’s complaint, the Oshiwara police registered a First Information Report against Gill and seven others under Indian Penal Code sections 143 (unlawful assembly), 148 (rioting), 384 (extortion), 506 (criminal intimidation) and others offences.

  • What straight men need to learn from Eric André and Emily Ratajkowski | Rebecca Shaw

What straight men need to learn from Eric André and Emily Ratajkowski | Rebecca Shaw

    [ad_1]

Valentine’s Day was earlier this week and while I don’t personally observe Valentine’s Day, I do appreciate that it usually provides a few morsels of tasty gossip. We get to see defiant social media posts about being newly single, sweet posts about new sparks and of course – people soft and hard launching new relationships.

Often Instagram related, “soft launching” a new relationship means that you post a picture that shows you’re with a new someone, but with no identifying features. It’s a photo of two wine glasses and someone else’s arm in the frame. It’s a blurry, dark photo taken in bed, as if you’ve started dating someone who is also in witness protection. A “hard launch” is explicit. It’s the couple kissing, or a full-face photo (tagged) and some love heart emojis. Or perhaps a water emoji. There’s no room for doubt.

This Valentine’s Day we got the special treat of a celebrity hard launch.

If you aren’t aware of these two, I’ll give you a quick rundown. Eric André is a successful comedian and actor known for his alt-absurdist comedy. Emily Ratajkowski first came to prominence appearing in the controversial Blurred Lines music video and has a successful modelling career. She’s also released a book, and published a well-received essay about her experience fighting to own her image. She’s good friends with rising comedy star Ziwe, so she’s probably funny in her own right.

They are two successful people, so why has this caused such a stir online? Well, it’s because people’s minds are blown that she is one of the most beautiful women in the world – and he is Eric André. Although obviously many people find him attractive (he is!), lots of people are finding it necessary to point out that he’s maybe not quite on her level, looks wise.

Luckily for Eric it doesn’t matter either way. This is because he is a graduate of the School of Being Funny Enough That Hot Babes Like You. I very much relate to this, and can also speak to this, because I am a fellow alum.

For context, I am a fat lesbian (shock!), so I am not what is considered a traditionally attractive woman. Before I go on here, my girlfriend has insisted that I have to tell you all that “I am hot”. However, for most of my life it was made clear to me by society how unlikely it was that I would ever find people who were attracted to me. I believed it for a really long time. Luckily – or perhaps mindfully as a way to cope – I became funny. I developed a good personality and varied interests. I am nice. This, shockingly, was enough. Cool and interesting people started wanting to go on dates with me, they like hanging out with me – and sometimes they’ve even fallen in love with me!

It turns out that a lot of what women want is an interesting and/or funny person to talk to. If that person will also listen to them and care about them as a human being and treat them like one, you’re on to a winning formula. As a whole, I think women are far more accepting and able to enjoy different body types and levels of attractiveness in their partners and I don’t think this is a quality appreciated enough by men. Because I am fat, I know that my romantic life would probably be a lot harder if I had to find straight men who wanted to date me. But I don’t, I get to date women. And so do straight men!

Even though it’s a pretty damn good deal, there’s a not-insignificant amount of men who still insist on focusing on the wrong things. Instead of looking at pairings like this and seeing that women are clearly dating men because they are funny, smart and ambitious, and deciding to work on themselves so that they become more appealing, there’s still a lot of men who treat dating women like some sort of machiavellian scheme.

Straight men need to get the message. They should stop listening to other men who clearly despise women, like Andrew Tate, and take a page out of the book of men like André, or Pete Davidson. Davidson is another funny guy with his own vibe who dates a slew of beautiful and successful women, often to the confusion of other men. But look at them and take notes – it’s not that complicated. Women just need you to not be threatened by their success, to be fun, and to treat them nicely, or even just normally.

Even if you’re not the hottest person around, women don’t need to be tricked into dating you, or controlled into enjoying your company, or talked into spending time with you. I have seen a lot of men respond to this argument by saying “but Eric André is famous and rich, it’s not the same!” This is correct, but I would guess that Em Rata is richer than him. If she wanted to, she could (and has) dated men who are richer than both of them put together and also incredibly classically good looking. But instead, she is now dating a cool guy who makes her laugh. I don’t mean that every man needs to be a professional comedian, but it’s always going to work out better for you if you try to be a fun and interesting person, or at the very least a genuinely interested person.

Become a person you like, and chances are you’ll find people who like you too.

An argument over selfies quickly escalated into a fight with a baseball bat and a car chase in Mumbai for cricketer Prithvi Shaw, according to a police complaint. Eight people have been named in the police case for allegedly charging at Mr Shaw and his friend, breaking the windshield of their car.

The controversy turned bigger when cricketing god, Sachin Tendulkar also criticised Prithvi Shaw. However, the criticism wasn’t for his behaviour but for the way Prithvi Shaw was holding the bat while breaking the windshield of the car.

Speaking to The Fauxy, Sachin Tendulkar said, “A batsman should try to play in the ‘V’, but Prithvi was playing across the line and there was a problem with his grip also. Prithvi needs more training“. Ravi Shashtri once said “When I see Sachin, Sehwag and Lara in Prithvi Shaw“.

Although Prithvi Shaw hasn’t responded to the controversy but Prithvi Shaw’s lawyer has requested either bail or bat for Prithvi Shaw.

An argument over selfies swiftly escalated into a brawl with a baseball bat and a vehicle pursuit in Mumbai for cricketer Prithvi Shaw.

In the police investigation, eight persons are accused of charging at Shaw and his friend, shattering the glass of their car, and demanding Rs 50,000.

The accused, Shobhit Thakur and Sana or Sapna Gill, have denied the allegations and accused Shaw of attacking them first.

According to Shaw’s friend’s accusation, the brawl started in the early hours of Wednesday at a fancy hotel near the Mumbai airport after two admirers – a guy and a woman – approached the cricketer for photos.

As they refused to back down and wanted more photos, Shaw phoned a friend and the hotel management to have the fans removed.

After being ejected out, the supporters waited outside for Prithvi and, together with a few others armed with baseball bats, swarmed Shaw, the complaint alleged.

As Shaw and his buddy fled, they pursued the car, caught it at a traffic signal near Oshiwara, and cracked the windscreen, according to several media reports.

According to Shaw’s buddy, they also wanted Rs 50,000 and threatened to file a bogus police report.

Others mentioned in the complaint, however, have denied the claims.

In an interview with the media, Sapna Gill’s counsel, Ali Kashif Khan, said that Prithvi Shaw attacked her.

Gill’s companion videotaped her battling with Shaw, who was brandishing a broken baseball bat.
