Atiq’s widow Shaista now officially a ‘mafia’ in UP

    [ad_1]

Prayagraj: The Prayagraj police has designated slain gangster politician Atiq Ahmed’s widow, Shaista Parveen as a ‘mafia’ for the first time in an FIR lodged on May 2 in connection with the arrest of one Mohd Atin Jafar, who was arrested for sheltering her and Sabir, a listed shooter of Atiq gang.

Besides the Umesh Pal murder case, Shaista has been named in seven other cases, including five of forgery and cheating, lodged at different police stations of the state.

Both Shaista and Sabir, also named in the Umesh Pal murder, are supposed to be on the run together and police have announced a cash reward for anyone providing information leading to their arrest.

While Sabir carries a cash reward of Rs 5 lakh, Shaista has a reward of Rs 50,000./

SHO Dhoomanganj Rajesh Kumar Maruya, in his FIR lodged with the Dhoomanganj police station against Mohd Atin Jafar on May 2, claimed that Jafar, who used to stay at Atiq’s slain son, Mohd Asad’s Mahanagar flat in Lucknow, had returned to his house in Prayagraj once police started tightening the noose around the members of Atiq gang, following the killing of lawyer Umesh Pal on February 24.

The SHO further claimed in the FIR that Jafar had allegedly offered shelter to Shaista and her shooters.

After the killing of gangster brothers, Atiq and Ashraf, on April 15, Shaista and shooter Sabir had stayed at the house of Jafar in Prayagraj on April 16 as they wanted to attend the burial of the gangster brothers.

They, however, changed their plan after apprehending their arrest and police action.

The FIR also revealed that Jafar’s father, Jafar Ullah, currently lodged at Lucknow jail in connection with businessman Mohit Agrawal assault case inside Deoria jail, was a close associate of Atiq.

Moreover, Mohd Umar, another son of Atiq, was also lodged at Lucknow jail on the same charges.

Meanwhile, fugitive Shaista continues to give sleepless nights to the sleuths of Special Task Force of UP Police and Prayagraj Commissionerate police since February 24.

Police sources claimed that Shaista had stopped using mobile phones and was continuously changing her location.

  • Despite media hype, Atiq’s widow Shaista Parveen remains an enigma

Despite media hype, Atiq’s widow Shaista Parveen remains an enigma

    [ad_1]

After the killing of her husband Atiq Ahmad, brother-in-law Ashraf and son Asad within a span of two days, she has become a subject of infotainment in the media and ‘stories’ about her are tumbling out with alacrity and alarming regularity.

Shaista Parveen, 51, is a woman of many faces.

Many know her as a devoted homemaker and mother while others claim she is an astute businesswoman who has been handling her husband Atiq Ahmad’s finances ever since he was jailed in 2017.

    MS Education Academy

The police claims that she is a mafia don in her own right and adept at running her husband’s gang. She is perfectly clued in about the loyalty quotient of the gang members and guards her sons against such elements.

Her relatives insist that she is deeply religious and remains behind a veil. They say that she is in ‘iddat’ – a period of mourning after her husband.

“She is fiercely concerned about the welfare of her surviving four sons and will probably surrender when she is sure of the safety of their lives,” said a relative on condition of anonymity.

Shaista’s two sons, Umar and Ali, are in jail while her minor sons Ahzan and Aaban are in police custody in a juvenile home.

Shaista did not attend the funeral of her husband, son and brother-in-law and the police checked all burqa-clad women during the burials.

Police in plain clothes have also been deployed at the Kasari Masari graveyard, where Ahmed, Asad, and Ashraf are buried. Police officials suspect that Shaista Parveen and Zainab, (Ashraf’s wife) may try to visit the graves of their husbands.

Police teams have been frantically searching for Shaista who is now an accused in the Umesh Pal murder. Raids are being carried out across states and the rumour mill is working overtime with stories about her presence, rather absence.

A senior STF official said, “The fact that she has been able to evade dozens of police teams searching for her, shows that she should not be underestimated.”

Born in Damupur village in Allahabad West constituency, Shaista Parveen is the eldest of four sisters and two brothers. She completed her schooling at Kidwai Girls Memorial Inter College in Prayagraj and went to college. Her father Harun Ahmad is a retired police constable, her two brothers are posted as madrasa principals.

In 1996, Shaista was married to Atiq Ahmed. The couple have five sons.

Shaista’s relatives say that she has been a hands-on mother and never missed a single parent-teacher meeting at the top English-medium school where her sons studied.

“With her face covered in veil, she always remained in the background and was rarely seen in public. There are no photographs of her, except a few from family functions,” said the relative.

However, after Atiq and Ashraf went to jail, Shaista gradually started to assert herself. She held press conferences, joined All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) in the presence of its chief Asaduddin Owaisi in September 2021, and later, joined Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) in January 2023.

In fact, she was touted to be BSP’s mayoral candidate in 2023 but the party retracted its decision after her involvement in the Umesh Pal murder came to the fore.

Shaista Parveen also took charge of the children as well the business after 2017, when Atiq went to jail.

This is evident from her signatures on academic documents and affidavits which were found in the rented house.

“She got involved in handling the illegal businesses only after Atiq, her brother-in-law Ashraf, and two eldest sons Umar and Ali went to prison in different cases,” said former police officer Lalji Shukla, who served as SP (city) in Prayagraj (then Allahabad) between April 1998 and September 2003 and retired as Inspector General of Police (IG) in 2015.

He added that she remains a revered figure in the family and gang, and commands great respect among Ahmad’s followers. “At a time when all the men in her family are either jailed or dead, Shaista is the only one who has the support and the calibre to take command of the gang and its assets,” he said.

According to police, Shaista Parveen has four criminal cases registered against her at Colonelganj and Dhoomanganj police stations of Prayagraj.

The first three cases filed at Colonelganj police station, date back to 2009. They are filed under different sections of the IPC, including 420, 467, 468 and 471 and section 30 of the Arms Act.

Sources also claim that Shaista is now protecting benami properties (those in someone else’s name) and shell companies worth hundreds of crores for her sons. The exact net worth of the empire is yet to be determined though.

“In the past three years, properties worth over Rs 416.92 crore belonging to Atiq and his kin have been seized. Illegally-constructed properties by the family worth over Rs 752.27 crore have been demolished by the police and other district authorities. Additionally, police have also discovered properties worth over Rs 1,169.20 crore while probing cases against Atiq and his associates,” said a senior police official.

“Till she is arrested, Shaista Parveen will remain an enigma for all. Her story — when it is told — will be on the ‘most wanted’ list,” said the police official.

  • Atiq Ahmad’s wife Shaista Parveen still in BSP, says party leader Uma Shankar

Atiq Ahmad’s wife Shaista Parveen still in BSP, says party leader Uma Shankar

    [ad_1]

Ballia: Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) leader Uma Shankar Singh on Sunday said Shaista Parveen, the wife of slain gangster-politician Atiq Ahmad, is still in the party and has not been expelled from it.

Speaking to reporters here, Singh — the lone BSP MLA in the 403-member UP Legislative Assembly — said, “Shaista Parveen, wife of Atiq Ahmad, is still in the party. She has not been expelled from the party. She is not occupying any post in the party. If she is convicted, she will be expelled from the party. She is yet to be convicted. The party is sympathetic towards her.”

To a question that the BSP has been termed as BJP’s “B-Team” by Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, he said, “Akhilesh Yadav does not have any issue except defaming the BSP.”

    MS Education Academy

On April 10, BSP chief Mayawati had said her party will not field gangster Ahmad’s wife Parveen or any other member of his family in the mayoral election in Prayagraj.

Parveen had joined the BSP in the presence of its senior leaders on January 5, and was reportedly being considered as the party’s mayoral candidate for Prayagraj.

The urban local body elections will be held in the state on May 4 and 11.

“As far as Shaista Parveen is concerned, I would like to make it clear that as per the facts emerging from media reports regarding the Umesh Pal murder case, as soon as the name of Atiq’s wife emerged and after she has gone underground, the situation has changed,” Mayawati had told reporters.

“In this scenario, our party will now not give the mayoral ticket to Atiq’s wife, nor to any member of his family,” she had said.

The BSP chief had also said, “As far as the question of keeping Atiq’s wife in the party is concerned, a decision will be taken soon from the facts that emerge after she lands in the police net.”

On March 13, BSP leader Uma Shankar Singh, who is also the Leader of the party in the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly, had come out in support of Parveen, saying the police’s cash reward for information on her is an attempt “to divert attention” from its failure in solving the Umesh Pal murder case.

The Rasra MLA had said, “Shaista Parveen has no relation, even remotely, with the murder case. Even the police have not been able to prove it. She is a social person.”

“Shaista Parveen is all set to become the mayor of Prayagraj and the BJP is going to lose the seat. This is the (reason) behind the BJP’s fury,” Singh had said, and stressed that BSP chief Mayawati has already announced that action will be taken against Parveen if the allegations against her are proven.

“We still stand by that. If the allegation is proven, Shaista Parveen will be expelled from the party. The BSP never compromises on matters of crime,” Singh had said.

Umesh Pal and his two police security guards were shot dead on February 24 outside his home in Prayagraj’s Dhoomanganj area.

Based on a complaint lodged by Umesh Pal’s wife Jaya Pal, a case was registered on February 25 against Atiq Ahmad, his brother Ashraf, wife Parveen, two sons, aides Guddu Muslim and Ghulam, and nine others.

On March 28, an MP/MLA court held Atiq Ahmad and two others guilty in the 2006 Umesh Pal kidnapping case and sentenced them to life imprisonment. That was Ahmad’s first conviction even though more than 100 cases had been registered against him.

The 60-year-old former Samajwadi Party MP was brought from Sabarmati Jail in Gujarat by road for hearing in the case in Prayagraj.

On April 15, Atiq Ahmad (60) and his brother Ashraf were shot dead at point-blank range by three men posing as journalists in the middle of a media interaction on Saturday night while police personnel were escorting them to a medical college here for a checkup.

Shaista feared for life of Atiq & Ashraf; letter goes viral

    [ad_1]

Prayagraj: Days after mafia Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf were shot dead, a lettter of Atiq’s wife Shaista Parveen is going viral on social media in which she had expressed apprehension that the duo might be killed on the pretext of remand in the case.

In the purported letter, Shaista had written that the allegations of conspiracy against her, her husband Atiq Ahmed, brother-in-law Ashraf and son Asad in the Umesh Pal murder case are baseless.

According to the letter, “The allegation that her son Ali is the shooter on the basis of CCTV footage is also baseless.”

    MS Education Academy

Describing it as political vendetta, Shaista has said in the letter that ever since the BSP had declared her as mayor candidate for Prayagraj, a local leader and cabinet minister in the government had started plotting and in the same conspiracy Umesh Pal was murdered.

She had written that Umesh Pal was not a witness in the murder of MLA Raju Pal. Umesh Pal was a litigant in his kidnapping case in which his testimony was recorded on August 16-17, 2016.

In the letter, Shaista alleged, “Umesh Pal was not a witness in the Raju Pal murder case, so Ateeq or Ashraf had no motive to get him killed, a serious political conspiracy which can be unearthed only through an unbiased investigation as the Prayagraj Police are completely working under the pressure of the minister.

As per the letter two police officers had taken a contract from Atiq’s opponents to kill him. “Wrote to CM Yogi that after your statement of mixing them in the soil, they have got full opportunity to kill my husband, brother-in-law and sons.” Shaista had requested CM Yogi to protect her husband, brother-in-law and sons. In this letter, she demanded an impartial inquiry into the entire matter.

It may be noted that Shaista Parveen is an accused in the Umesh Pal murder case and carries a reward of Rs 50,000 on her head. Raids are being conducted to catch her.

Umesh Pal murder: MP/MLA court rejects anticipatory bail plea of Shaista Parveen

    [ad_1]

Prayagraj:  An MP/MLA court on Thursday rejected the anticipatory bail application of Shaista Parveen, an accused in the Umesh Pal murder case and wife of gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed.

MP/MLA court judge Dinesh Chandra Shukla rejected the application of Parveen after hearing both the sides and considering the circumstances and seriousness of the case, government counsel Gulab Chand Agrahari said.

On February 24, Umesh Pal’s security policemen Raghavendra Singh and Sandeep Nishad were gunned down. The next day, an FIR was registered against Atiq Ahmed, Shaista Parveen, Ashraf, Guddu Muslim, Ghulam and nine other people at the Dhoomanganj police station on the complaint of Jaya Pal, wife of Umesh Pal.

The special court had on March 28 sentenced Atiq Ahmed, Dinesh Pasi and Khan Shoulat Hanif to rigorous life imprisonment in the 17-year-old case of kidnapping of Umesh Pal, the main witness of the BSP MLA Raju Pal murder case.

The court had acquitted seven people, including Atiq Ahmed’s brother Ashraf, in this case due to lack of evidence.

A charge sheet was filed against 11 people, out of whom one died during trial.
