We should achieve target of 330 MMT milk production by 2033-34, says Amit Shah

Gandhinagar: Union Cooperation Minister Amit Shah on Saturday said India should set a target to contribute 330 million metric tonnes (MMT), or 33 percent of global milk production by 2033-34, stressing the need to also produce milk by the masses.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government is working for the 360-degree growth of the dairy sector, Shah said at the 49th Dairy Industry Conference organised by Indian Dairy Association here.

He said India’s milk processing capacity is 126 million litres per day, the highest in the world, and lauded the dairy sector for increasing production from 22 MMT, or around 6 crore litres per day in 1977, to 58 crore litres per day in 2022.

He said around 22 percent of the milk that we produce is processed.

“We should not content ourselves with becoming the world’s largest milk-producing country. If two lakh new primary milk producing committees are formed (at panchayat level), then in coming years, there is the possibility of India becoming the contributor of 33 percent of global milk production,” Shah said while calling for the need to explore this possibility.

“We have to move ahead to achieve the target of producing 330 MMT, or 33 percent of milk globally by 2033-34,” he said. According to the Indian Dairy Association, the country’s milk production is now 220 MMT.

“To achieve this (330 MMT target), the Central government and state governments, as well as cooperative movements should work together. We have to make production by masses a ground reality while maintaining mass production,” he said.

Shah said India should also work in the direction of becoming the largest exporter of milk processing equipment apart from being the world’s largest producer of milk.

He said the Modi government will make all efforts to also become the biggest exporter of milk in the world.

“In the last decade, the dairy sector has grown by 6.6 percent annual rate. I assure you that when the cooperation ministry will set up rural dairies across two lakh panchayats in the country along with NDDB (National Dairy Development Board) and the animal husbandry department of (Union Minister Parshottam) Rupala, then this growth rate will increase to 13.8 percent. Our dairy sector will witness a peak then,” he said.

Shah said the income of farmers rises in proportion to the milk processed and sold in the market.

The dairy sector has become a deciding factor in the export of milk products like milk powder, ghee and butter, he said.

“I can see a huge possibility in this. The day the multi-state cooperative society formed for export is connected with two lakh dairy unions, there is a possibility of our export growing five times,” Shah said.

He said the Modi government will make all efforts so that India emerges as the world’s biggest exporter. “We have already become the world’s biggest producer”.

He said India would never have become self-reliant in milk production had there been no White Revolution and Operation Flood, one of the world’s largest rural development programmes, that transformed the country’s dairy sector.

“Now there is a need for White Revolution-2, and we have moved ahead in this direction. Cooperation model in the dairy sector …works to make sure that maximum benefit reaches the farmers by removing the middleman,” he said, assuring to further strengthen the dairy cooperation model.

He said that dairy contributes to 4.5 percent of India’s GDP (gross domestic product). “Dairy is a strong part of our economy and also a source of job creation. As many as 9 crore rural families are associated with the dairy business,” he said. For marginal farmers, the dairy sector has proved to be a blessing, he said.

While India’s population rose four-fold, milk production rose more than 10 times, he said. Per person milk consumption was 107 grams in 1970, which rose to 427 grams per person in 2022, as against the global consumption of 322 grams, he said.

Shah also mentioned the success story of the Amul model, a highly successful three-tier dairy cooperative structure, and said it has played a major role in India’s contribution of 21 percent in global milk production.

  • Parliament logjam can be resolved if Opp comes forward for talks, says Amit Shah

Parliament logjam can be resolved if Opp comes forward for talks, says Amit Shah

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah has said the current logjam in Parliament can be resolved if the Opposition comes forward for talks and that the government will go “two steps ahead” if it takes “two steps forward”.

Participating in the India Today Conclave here on Friday, Shah also said there are certain issues which are above politics and even former prime minister Indira Gandhi had refused to discuss domestic politics in a foreign land.

“Let the two sides sit before the Speaker and discuss. They should come two steps forward and we will go two steps ahead. Then Parliament will start running. But you just hold a press conference and do nothing, it can’t be like that,” he said.

The home minister said a parliamentary system can’t run with only the treasury or only the Opposition as both have to talk to each other.

“Despite our initiative, there has been no proposal for talks from the Opposition. So whom will we talk to? They are talking to the media. They created a slogan that there should be freedom of speech in Parliament. There is complete freedom of speech in Parliament. No one can stop you from talking,” he said.

However, Shah said, everyone has to follow rules and there can’t be freestyle and everyone should have to study the rules and understand them.

He said, “The debates in Parliament take place as per rules. You can’t talk in Parliament like one can do on the road. If they don’t have this basic concept, what can we do?”

The home minister said Parliament functions under certain rules and those rules were not framed by the present government.

“These rules have existed even during the times of their grandmother or father. They were taking part in debate with these rules, we are also participating as per these rules.

“They have no idea about the rules and then allege that they are not being allowed to speak. This is not acceptable. No one can just stand up and start speaking. There are rules and you have to follow those rules. There are no changes in these rules,” he said.

Citing two instances, Shah said Indira Gandhi had visited England after the Emergency and at that time the Shah Commission was constituted and there were attempts to put her in jail.

“On that, some journalist had asked her (in England) how is your country doing. She said we have some issues but I don’t want to say anything here. My country is running well. I won’t say anything about my country. Here I am an Indian,” he said quoting Indira Gandhi.

The home minister said former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee was in the Opposition and there was supposed to be a discussion on Kashmir at the United Nations.

He said a Congress government was in power at that time and that was for the first and last time that the Indian delegation was led by an opposition leader, Vajpayee, because it was a discussion on Kashmir.

“This trust… there are some issues which are about politics. I believe that everyone should follow this tradition.

“Should we go abroad and level allegations about India and should we go to the Parliament of other countries and make comments about India? I believe the Congress will have to answer this,” he said.

The first week of the second half of Parliament’s Budget session has been completely disrupted following protests by members of both ruling and opposition parties.

While the BJP has been demanding an apology from Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over his remarks in London, the Opposition has been demanding a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) probe into the Adani issue.

During his interactions in London, Rahul Gandhi alleged that the structures of Indian democracy are under attack and there is a “full-scale assault” on the country’s institutions.

The remarks triggered a political slugfest, with the BJP accusing him of maligning India on foreign soil and seeking foreign interventions, and the Congress hitting back at the ruling party by citing previous instances of Prime Minister Narendra Modi raising internal politics abroad.

  • Modi to become PM for 3rd consecutive term in 2024, says Amit Shah

Modi to become PM for 3rd consecutive term in 2024, says Amit Shah

    [ad_1]

Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday said the BJP-led NDA will form government again in 2024 and Narendra Modi will become prime minister for a third consecutive term.

Participating the “India Today Conclave” here, Shah also said ever since the Modi government came to power, issues related to three hotspots — Jammu and Kashmir, the Northeast and Naxal — were by and large resolved.

Since a surgical strike was carried out against terrorists inside Pakistan, no foreign power dared to interfere in the internal affairs of the country, the home minister said.

“People will decide who will be the next prime minister of the country. I have visited every part of the country and have realised that again the BJP will form the government and Modi will become the prime minister for a third consecutive term,” he said.

Shah said since the 1970s, this would be for the first time that a prime minister will get the people’s mandate for the third consecutive term.

Asked about the number of seats the NDA will get in the 2024 general elections, the minister said it would be more than 2019. “We (the BJP) will get more than 303 seats,” he said.

The BJP got 303 seats in the 2019 general elections and the NDA got over 350 seats out of the total 543 Lok Sabha constituencies.

Shah said when the Modi government came to power for the first time in 2014, 60 crore people had no bank accounts, 10 crore people had no access to toilets and three crore people had no electricity connections.

The Modi government has given all of them access to banks, toilets, free food, electricity and gas connections, he said.

Not only that, externally, if there is a problem in the world, other leaders look towards Modi and what he thinks and what he believes, Shah said.

He said the COVID-19 pandemic was handled very efficiently by the Modi government and it successfully inoculated all citizens of the country.

Asked about his role as Union home minister, Shah said he was satisfied that problems in three hotspots — Jammu and Kashmir, the Northeast and Naxal were by and large resolved.

There is 70 per cent drop in violence in Jammu and Kashmir, 60 per cent less violence in Naxal-affected areas, and many insurgents have surrendered and peace agreements signed in the Northeast, he said.

Besides these, Shah said, under the Modi government, Article 370 was scrapped, Ram temple is being built and issues related to the Triple Talaq resolved.

Asked when elections could be held in Jammu and Kashmir, the home minister said the Election Commission (EC) will decide about it when it gets ready to conduct the polls.

“When the EC will seek a report from the home ministry, we will provide it immediately,” he said. PTI ACB

  • NIA Court Charges Kashmir Journalist Fahad Shah, Ala Fazali

    [ad_1]

SRINAGAR: Kashmiri journalist Fahad Shah and Ala Fazali have had charges framed against them by a special court in Jammu designated under the NIA act, in a case investigated by the State Investigation Agency (SIA).

According to a senior police official who spoke to news agency KDC, charges have been filed against Kashmiri journalist Fahad Shah and Ala Fazali in a case investigated by the State Investigation Agency (SIA) in Jammu. The charges were framed by Special Judge Ashwani Kumar, designated under the NIA Act, on March 16, 2022, in connection with FIR No. 01/2022 of PS SIA Jammu.

He said that this is for the first time the court has framed charges for writing seditious material. “Bringing it up to the stage of framing of charges after preliminary hearings in such matters is usually a very difficult task. The write up for which the investigation was conducted and charges were framed is also available,” he said.

SIA in an exclusively statement to KDC said “The case pertains to an information received by PS CIJ (SIA Jammu) on 04.04.2022 along with a copy of an article titled ‘The Shackles of Slavery Will Break’ written by one Aala Fazili and published in the digital magazine (portal) ‘The Kashmir Walla’ through its Editor-in-Chief cum Director Peerzada Fahad Shah. The duo accused under an active conspiracy and Paksitan’s support had resurrected a platform reviving the narrative in support of terrorist and separatist eco-system. The duo had been spreading the anti-India narrative by exploiting the digital platforms under a concealed and camouflaged set-up, with the help of illicit funding received from hostile foreign agencies and proscribed terrorist organisations. The investigation has established that the duo accused was in touch with secessionists across the border and also with some identified terrorists locally. Through their publications the duo have brazenly advocated terrorism and glorified the terrorists with the sole intention to radicalize the youth of the J&K and to entice and incite them in joining secessionist and terrorist organisations.”

They said “The SIA had charge-sheeted the case in the court of Special Judge under NIA Act, Jammu on 13.10.2022 after procuring the requisite government sanction, which came up for hearing on charge/discharge on 16.03.2023.”

“The case was vehemently argued by the Addl PP representing the UT of J&K in the court. After hearing the rival contentions, the Special Court found sufficient material against the duo accused collected by the SIA and framed the charges against Aala Fazili u/s 13(unlawful activity), 18 (conspiracy, advocating, abetting, inciting, facilitating a terrorist act or any preparation to commit a terrorist act), UA (P) Act, 121(abetting  waging of war against government of India)  153B (imputations, assertions prejudicial to national integration), 201 (causing disappearance of evidence of offence)  IPC and against Peerzada Fahad Shah u/s 13 (unlawful activity), 18  UA(P ) Act (conspiracy, advocating, abetting, inciting, facilitating a terrorist act or any preparation to commit a terrorist act) , 121 (abetting  waging of war against government of India), 153-B (imputations, assertions prejudicial to national integration) IPC and 35 (accepting foreign contribution in contravention of provisions of FCRA, or any order or rule therein)  , 39 (violation of FCRA by a company tantamount to contravention by the persons incharge or responsible for business of such company) Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act 2010, the statement added. • BJP vs BJP: Bommai to raise Maha insurance scheme decision with Amit Shah

BJP vs BJP: Bommai to raise Maha insurance scheme decision with Amit Shah

    [ad_1]

Bengaluru: Strongly condemning the Maharashtra government’s decision to implement its health insurance scheme in the 865 border villages in Karnataka that it is laying claim to, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Thursday called it an “unpardonable offence”, and said he would raise the issue with Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

In December last year, Union Home Minister stepped in to defuse border tensions between Maharashtra and Karnataka. He called a meeting between the two Chief Ministers, after which he said both of them had agreed not to make any claims and counter-claims on the border issue till the Supreme Court had decided on the matter.

Speaking to reporters, Bommai today said Maharashtra had “violated” that agreement, and urged his counterpart Eknath Shinde to “behave responsibly”.

The latest tension between the two states cropped up after the Shinde government recently announced that it would allocate an additional Rs 54 crore for its ‘Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Jan Arogya Yojana’, so that the benefits could be extended to the border villages in Karnataka that Maharashtra has been laying claim to.

The Karnataka Chief Minister today urged the Maharashtra government to immediately withdraw its order on implementing the health insurance scheme in the villages on Karnataka’s side of the border, and said he would be raising the matter with Union Home Minister Shah.

Warning against dredging up border issues, indicating that it could backfire against Maharashtra, Bommai said, “We too can announce such schemes or programmes.”

“Several Gram Panchayats and Taluks (on Maharashtra’s side of the border) have made resolutions seeking to join Karnataka, as they are not getting justice in Maharashtra,” he added. “With such a situation, the Mahrashtra government should behave responsibly. I strongly condemn their Cabinet decision.”

Opposition leaders D K Shivakumar and Siddaramaiah on Wednesday had also condemned the Maharashtra government’s move, and took the opportunity to call for Bommai’s resignation for “having miserably failed to protect the interests of Karnataka and Kannadigas.”

  • Delhi HC lists plea of AAP’s Jasmine Shah for March 29

Delhi HC lists plea of AAP’s Jasmine Shah for March 29

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: The Delhi High Court on Wednesday posted Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) politician Jasmine Shah’s plea challenging Lt Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena’s decision to restrict him from “discharging his duties” as the Vice Chairman of the Dialogue and Development Commission of Delhi (DDCD), for the next hearing on March 29.

The LG had also restricted Shah from using any privilege and facilities associated with the office.

Additional Solicitor General Sanjay Jain sought an adjournment in the matter as he had to argue in a death reference matter before the apex court. He stated that it was part heard and the whole day will go in submissions as it is related to Lajpat Nagar bomb blast case.

Senior advocate Rajiv Nayar, appearing for Shah contended that he has argued at length in the matter, and there is no interim order.

The court then adjourned the matter.

On February 9, Nayar had argued that the entire power lies within the Legislative Assembly and power of appointment and removal is only with the Chief Minister.

Referring to the Transaction of Business (Amendment) Rules, he had said: “The course of action of the rules should be followed by the LG with reference to Chief Minister or its counsel.”

The High Court, on December 13, held that in the absence of consensus between Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and LG Saxena on removal of Shah as Chairman of DDCD, the matter has been referred to the President.

The court was also informed that in the exercise of powers under Article 239AA, the LG has ordered that Shah will not be allowed into the DDCD office till the President takes a call on the issue.

The LG had said that until the President returns a decision on the matter, it would be prudent for the parties to take no further action.

On November 28, the HC sought a response from the LG after Shah moved the HC challenging L-G’s actions.

Saxena on November 18, had asked CM Kejriwal to restrict Shah from “discharging his duties” as the Vice Chairman of the DDCD and from using any privilege and facilities associated with the office.

A single-judge bench of Justice Prathiba M. Singh had said that it will examine the LG’s response, before deciding whether he could have passed an order like that.

The judge had said she cannot deal with the issues without having affidavits on record and asked the respondents to file affidavits before the next date of the hearing. It had also sought responses from the Director (Planning) Govt of NCT of Delhi and the local sub-divisional magistrate (SDM).

Shah’s office was sealed late on November 17, by the SDM, Civil Lines. ASG Jain, appearing for the LG, had told the court that there are “larger issues” involved in the case.

However, the Delhi government counsel had told the Court that Saxena’s request to remove Shah had not been accepted. The Planning Department has also been ordered to cancel its order closing Shah’s office and withdrawing facilities granted to him.

The LG’s actions followed after Bharatiya Janata Party MP Parvesh Singh Verma filed a complaint alleging Shah was acting as the official spokesperson of AAP for political gains, in violation of established procedures.

The LG had also asked the CM to sack Shah for allegedly “misusing his office for political purposes”. Shah had said the LG’s action is “without jurisdiction, completely illegal, and unconstitutional”. The AAP politician then moved the High Court to challenge the L-G’s actions.
